Our first time going since it changed to Makisu Sushi. Everything inside was as I remembered. They had a movie playing on one TV and the World Series on another. We were greeted when we walked in and seated immediately. We ordered drinks and took our time looking over the menu. I ordered my go-to BBQ Albacore Tuna and a side of white steamed rice. Their BBQ Albacore was absolute perfection! It's lightly seared and melts in your mouth. And I'm used to it being served with a creamy sauce, so I was pleasantly surprised with their sauce! I'll definitely be back soon!!!! 10/10

Came to Makisu Sushi for the first time for dinner with friends, after ine of then recently got into sushi. And was said to be one of their favorite spots in the area now. It took my girlfriend and I a little bit to find something to order, since there were so many options. I tend to favor deep friend and or spicy rolls, so I started there first but the sushi roll "favorites" section was really helpful. Since they all had pictures along with the description. My friends ordered 5 different rolls that I don't know the names of, and two were deep fried. My girlfriend and I ordered the following: Drinks Green tea Appetizers Spicy Edamame Rolls 10. Brenda's Favorite 17. Danielle's Special In total we ordered 7 different rolls, and I tried probably 5/7. The deep rolls were good, and so was my Danielle's Speciall roll and my girlfriends Brenda's favorite roll. I also really enjoyed the spicy Edamame as well. Our waitress was really noce amd friendly and entertained my friend's young daughter who joined us for dinner. The only "hiccup" or minor delay was our aroumd our 2nd order of green tea. My girlfriend ordered some when we initially at our drinks orders taken, and a few minutes later my friend decided to get some ad well. But the 2nd order took a while to receive, and we had to ask about it again at one point. Once we received the 2nd glass, we opted to just get the tea kettle to self serve since it made the most practical sense for refills. Overall: Food was good, staff was friendly, and ordered was reasonably priced.

Have been here a few times thanks to a friend of mine for suggesting it. Each time I've been the food has been really good and the service too. The sushi is tasty, love the wakame salad, and the gyoza is good either steamed or fried. The spicy edamame is also really good, it's a balanced flavor of spicy and sweet. The restaurant is a nice size with lots of booths to sit in. Lots of parking and in a convenient location. Want to come back to try some new items.

You get what you pay for. A little disappointed by this place, 4-star, 500+ reviews and yet I left feeling that I could spent my time and money elsewhere. Came here for a quick dinner with the family, simple items, things we wrongfully assumed were safe bets. Upon walking in, was immediately struck by the lack of any decorations -- a precursor to the blandness of our food (more to come). Beef Udon, Lemon Salmon Roll and a Lion King Roll. Everything was average at best. The two rolls were very basic, the fish didn't taste fresh and even at the 50% off price I didn't feel they were worth it. The Lion King roll specifically, didn't give off the impression that it was "baked in the oven". My wife got the Beef Udon, soup was bland, beef was tough/rubbery and overall the bowl just lacked flavor. Service wise, even that was just okay -- the waitress was nice but seeing as the restaurant wasn't that busy, she could have come to check on us a little bit more. Quick comment on the wait for our food too, Beef Udon came out fairly quickly but then we had to wait another 15 minutes for the rolls to come out. Not sure what took so long, seeing as it wasn't that busy when we were there. Overall, pretty disappointed in this place -- I think the 2-star rating is generous. Don't think we'll be returning.

Visited Sac State and wanted to try a new resto. This sushi spot hit my radar as it was on the way home. When in the parking lot, I saw a sign for a drive-thru for order pick up. First impression - this resto already a win before entering. The establishment is def on the older side, yet it worked for the casual dining style. I was immediately seated for a table of 2. I was quite surprised how busy it was - the environment added to the positive experience. You could hear staff engaging with customers - just a good vibe. Service was great. Didn't have to wait long for the server to take our order, and the food came out in good time. The frequent check ins were timed nicely - especially for the water refills. I drink a lot of water and didn't have to once ask cause the server kept a good eye on cup levels. I ordered the salmon, tuna and hamachi sashimi. It came with miso soup and rice. I also ordered the Fire roll. I enjoyed my order. The sashimi was a decent thickness, fresh, and chilled. Other spots Ive been too give room temp, so this was nice to receive. The salmon was my favorite - it was fatty, buttery. At first glance of the Fire roll (no picture in menu) I was expecting a bigger roll but given the simplicity of the ingredients, size didn't matter. It was perfect! The jalapeño and sriracha was the perfect kick. Devoured everything. My friend ordered a rice-less roll. Forgot the name but presentation was nice so I took a pic. I enjoyed the experience and the fresh fish. I would consider the is spot again if I'm in the area.

pretty good food. I enjoy the sushi boat since it's always a great experience trying chef's choice. it's similar to an omakase where you get x amount of sashimi, nigiri, and 4 signature rolls. the price was more on the expensive side but it does fill you up. service was good, we did wait about 15 mins before the boat arrived, however, the gyoza appetizer was able to sate our appetite for the time being. nice atmosphere. restrooms could be better and more clean.

Amazing! Great service, portions and reasonable pricing! Loved new to the area from San Diego, and was looking for a great Japanese spot!

We came here last night for dinner. We wanted sushi, and we've decided... let's try a new place! Friendly service and nice presentation. The only complaint we had was the size of their rolls. They do charge steep for sushi, but at least they could increase the size a bit to make it worth my money. The rolls were good, fresh.

Another hit for Makish Sushi! I love this spot, their service is always great with excellent servers that know their menu well. We went on another hot day for udon and I even got my boyfriend to eat a whole roll of his choosing this time. He's not a big sushi fan but said that the Crispy Crème is his new favorite.

This time they sat us where all the chefs were making the dishes, so I finally saw how they make ngiri. There is 1 guy who makes it and I didn't like how he would make the ngiris but was not served asap. He would make about 3 sets at a time or some thing like that. The time from when it's made and time where it's served is too long. That is why the fish is warm by the time it got to us. Also, we didn't see a fridge where he was making it but it could be underneath around his leg area. I'm a little disappointed. From all the sushi documentary's I've watched, this is not how it's suppose to be. I regret ordering the Ngiri Mix again cause the fish was warm. Same like last time! I read other reviews where people have said the quality is going down. Even though, I am not a regular here, I can kinda tell that it is. I tried their sukiyaki set, both wagyu and seafood. I wish they had given some instructions on the approach or order I should eat the sets of food. It was a little chaotic trying to figure out how I could submerge all the ingredients in the broth so they would cook evenly. The tempura is perfectly crispy, but the rice was a little brittle and got dried really fast. The texture was more like Vietnamese broken rice, and it caught me off guard because when I tried their sushi a while ago, they used very high-quality rice. As is typical with sukiyaki, the broth becomes very flavorful at the end, absorbing all the flavors from high-quality ingredients, but my udon got a little dry while waiting. Since I tried both set, the wagyu sukiyaki broth became a little too sweet at the end. My favorite is definitely the seafood sukiyaki broth. Would I try these pricy sukiyaki again? Probably not. Would I go back to Azayaka again? 100%. This would not discourage me from going back there any amount.

On this particular visit we started with 2 different sushi tacos-We had the tuna version and the salmon version-each priced at $11.00. Now I could write a novel explaining the virtues of these culinary creations but I will keep it short-the tuna and the salmon tacos are such the perfect bite-well balanced-well seasoned-surprisingly heavy in the hand while being light to the taste-it's truly been my favorite new food item discovery of 2026. Next we went with the Stir-Fry Udon and this cost us $16.00. I've described this dish in the past as a dish I could eat every day of my life and would be a very happy person. The flavor and seasonings are flawless, the noodles are cooked perfectly, great chew-a very slurpable noodle for sure.
