This is by far my FAV sushi spot in Sacramento AND it's risen even higher on my list because they expanded their menu! Friends and I hadn't dined here in awhile, so my eyes widened with excitement when I saw signs by the entrance for all-you-can-eat on certain days and at certain times and I saw sushi tacos on their menu! Their service and music are excellent. The ambiance is spacious, so when the restaurant is busy with diners, the sound is not an issue at all. The TV screens show sushi making videos that get our attention hooked. The robot server has happy music playing and sweet messages on its screen, like KIT, as it rolls away. Their beautiful food display right by the entrance is the perfect way to entice customers to keep it moving to get a table, and not hesitate, if they are new customers. Their rolls are the biggest I have ever had so far from a sushi restaurant and all of their sushi sections we have enjoyed so far have seriously caused a flavor explosion right at first bite! They do not skimp on sushi roll and sushi taco filling, further adding to why I give Sushi Hook five big stars! I am very happy this restaurant has survived and been patronized all these years, considering the pandemic and economic factors that have impacted the restaurant industry. I look forward to trying more items from their menu next time, including desserts!

Tried this sushi spot recently The food was honestly amazing , super fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every roll we tried hit the mark, and you can tell they really care about quality. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the food. It was slow and a bit inattentive, which took away from the overall experience. That's why 3 stars, the server always forgot to bring things we asked for . It was busy so I understand but instead of apologizing her response was always I didn't hear that rudely . When she clearly heard and acknowledged the request . Ambiance is nice , small sushi spot ! I'd still come back for the sushi alone, but hoping the service improves next time!

Customer service was top tier, food was good but the AFTERMATH!! Fiance and I got food poisoning. Went Saturday night 6.27.26, and im still having stomach issues Monday morning. Praying this goes away soon.

It has been several years since I updated my review and I can at least say that the food is still decent, the quality is consistent, and the service has slightly improved. The restaurant layout has remained the same with its amber lights illuminating over everyone, but their popularity has increased over time, mainly due to their affordable sushi prices and large portions. When conversing with friends, family, or coworkers visiting the area and asking for a good sushi spot, many will tell you, "Sushi Hook." But why, I wondered? They're not the fanciest, the food quality is good but not excellent, the service isn't memorable. But after visiting here on and off for so long, it has just became a sushi staple in town. This is the place to go to for large groups because the sushi is affordable, the atmosphere is welcoming, and there is a huge variety of rolls to choose from. Not only rolls, but appetizers, entrees, drinks, etc. Their menu has expanded since years ago, and is accommodating to the general public for the entire family. Whether you like sushi or not, you'll find at least one item on the menu you would like. For my bougie taste buds that I've developed from trying so many restaurants, it's not quite my preference when I'm craving sushi, but from a nostalgic perspective, I would actually recommend Sushi Hook as a welcoming place for heartwarming sushi. I've moved out of Sacramento about 2 months ago, and still have yet to come across a sushi gem that brings people together with affordable dining. Give Sushi Hook a try, and you might warm up to it too like the rest of Sac residents.

I went here on a Tuesday evening and there were people inside but it wasn't crazy busy or anything. The service could be better, but the food makes up for it. They offer a wide variety of options on the menu. The rolls are especially impressive as they offer huge portions at a great price compared to other places. Overall, it's a solid spot, and I'd definitely come back.

I got the Alligator roll today and YUMMM! Still my favorite sushi spot in all of Sacramento they always taste soooo good !!!!

WHAT WE GOT: 12 piece sashimi and Island roll, The sashimi was fine, cuts were all over the place and the salmon was a little too fishy tasting for my liking. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular. It was fine but not the best. Island roll was sweet, i could hardly taste the lemon on it. Rolls are very thick so it was harder to eat. SERVICE/AMBIANCE: Service was nice, kind servers. Nothing to note. 3/5 stars, We know we're coming in for lower end sushi so can't complain!

Back at our favorite sushi place!!! This place never disappoints. The service is always friendly. The price are reasonable and you get your food quickly. The restaurant is clean . They have all you can eat sushi Monday thru Friday 11-3pm. Ray ( our favorite employee) surprised us with two sushi taco samples. It's something new they are doing. And let me tell you, it was AMAZING. The taco shell is made out of seaweed and is super crunchy ( 10/10) Definitely recommend sushi hook

Even ordering to go their rolls are super loaded, fresh, and affordable! Probably one of my all time favorite places in the Sacramento area. The island roll has been my all time favorite along with the golden dragon. Highly recommend coming here.

Im sad to say that my recent visit wasn't as pleasant as it usually is. The service was still great. The host was kind and helpful. But, I ordered the "seared" tuna.. and I got fully cooked, cold, definitely pre made tuna.. not freshly seared. And I ordered the cucumber split, which honestly did taste fresh and wonderful. But I just can't get past that tuna.. see pics please..

Sushi roll combo with teriyaki chicken!!! FTW!

I appreciate SH so much! Super bang for your buck. And beer special M-F, $2.99/4.99. Awesome. I love the spicy avacado roll and miso soup. This pic is of the $17.99 combo which is huge!!! I got Cali roll as roll option and teriyaki chicken dish. So much food for such a great price. Also, the best part is...the wait staff is so kind and friendly. I love this place. Just beware, Sac State students frequent here, so go at a good time or prepare for a wait. I'm off work at 5 and take advantage of going in asap M-F for beer special and either a roll/miso soup r the combo $17.99 which is a steal.

Came here for to go order and here for the first time. Lunch menu is limited and the front desk server was rude and unaccommodating when asked if there was a gluten free menu. She immediately said "no everything in here has gluten". Very UNACCOMODATING and UNWELCOMING. Ordered the standard chicken teriyaki bento box (no sauce) which I was told would take 20 minutes. Another staff (possibly the chef himself) but not the front desk lady, came out to drop off my order. The chicken was ok; nothing to rave about. Sadly, I could not try the glutinous items like California roll, egg roll and potstickers. So this makes for an experience lunch! The dark ambiance in this place adds to an unwelcoming vibe. Will not be returning...

Most mid sushi. Similar to Arigato down the street. Good intro to sushi. Long over due for this review. Their most popular roll is crack cocaine but it's like 2.5 roll in one. 3 bite from one piece. Never had an issue with service here and it's a chill atmosphere.

Do they have any rolls made with-/or/ the option to replace white rice with- BROWN RICE?

I'm not sure if they offer brown rice. Never seen any sushi made with brown rice before though. But you can try requesting it via special instructions to see if it'll get approved.

What's in the crack cocaine roll, is there anything on top?

Are you guys currently offering dine in?

    No just take out

Does this place still do buy one, get one free rolls?

Not when I was there during lunch.

What's the best sushi place by lincoln?

Nope! Pay per roll, but it's 50% off.

Do they offer rice free sushi rolls? Maybe with cucumber or soy paper wrap?

They only have a few. But one is my absolute favorite roll there, the Johnny Roll. 12/10 would recommend, it's delish!

Does anyone know if they are opening soon?

    Tomorrow!!! 04/30/2018

Any updates on a grand reopening?

    Open now

When are they gonna reopen?? one of my favorite sushi places

    Tomorrow! 04/30/2018!

Any word on when they'll open back up?

No. Fire clean up takes a long time. Hopefully by summer time. I miss them, and there arent many sushi places in town with their " specials"

I tried their sukiyaki set, both wagyu and seafood. I wish they had given some instructions on the approach or order I should eat the sets of food. It was a little chaotic trying to figure out how I could submerge all the ingredients in the broth so they would cook evenly. The tempura is perfectly crispy, but the rice was a little brittle and got dried really fast. The texture was more like Vietnamese broken rice, and it caught me off guard because when I tried their sushi a while ago, they used very high-quality rice. As is typical with sukiyaki, the broth becomes very flavorful at the end, absorbing all the flavors from high-quality ingredients, but my udon got a little dry while waiting. Since I tried both set, the wagyu sukiyaki broth became a little too sweet at the end. My favorite is definitely the seafood sukiyaki broth. Would I try these pricy sukiyaki again? Probably not. Would I go back to Azayaka again? 100%. This would not discourage me from going back there any amount.

Before that, I remember when this spot used to be Tasty House. Small parking lot shared with a smog station off of Stockton Blvd between Fleming and Chandler/66th, a block south of Florin. Super small dining room capacity too, I'd say maybe less than 50 people? I've also tried their pork katsu appetizer and caramel matcha with salted cheese cream. This most recent visit, I was torn between the katsu or katsu curry donburis, but ultimately went with the tamagoyaki unagi don and a caramel milk tea. Shared the chicken karaage which was perfectly breaded, crispy, thick and juicy with every bite just like last time. Honey mustard dipping sauce on the side. Also shared one sushi taco (this time salmon/sake) and Mom got the beef gyudon. Other than matcha or milk tea, they also have seasonal drinks like guava, butterfly tea, ube, peach oolong, Japanese coffee, etc. Next time might go for a ramen to try or that rich curry udon dish. I will also say a sushi taco is easier to eat than a handroll or a sushi burrito. The wooden spoons were interesting for the rice bowls. The portions are pretty big and this cute little spot in South Sac is worth checking out! Open 11:30am-9pm daily.
