This place was great! I had been wanting to stop here ever since I moved to the area a few months ago. Every time I pass by they are packed with people. Today I got the chance and was not disappointed in any way. I ordered the fried catfish, cabbage, fried green tomatoes, and carrots. Not worth it even at a cheap price. So disappointed at the lack of service. The skinny underweight waitress who wears a low cut back woods faded old tank top with her upper body parts quite obvious and jeans painted on seems to allude a meth problem that was noticeable right away. However the overall atmosphere seemed hillbilly anyway with mismatched tables scattered about and an old, post-apocalypse stained tile floor. Just not a pretty place inside. Ms Skinny bounded up, took my order and bounced away after convincing me to try the black eyed peas. She brought my food and tea in a fairly timely manner. There were THREE occupied tables in the place-myself, one beside me and one across the café--the rest were empty. It was a slow day which certainly didn't work in my favor. Drank my tea and guess who NEVER came back asking if I needed a refill? Ms. Skinny was busy talking to the table next to me. She came back to that table TWICE MORE stood there yacking not caring about the others who might need a refill or a napkin for holy sake! I waited over 20 min for her to stop talking and notice me-my tea glass is dangling off the edge of the table at this point-just refill my tea once is all I ask-NEVER HAPPENED. i FINALLY GRABBED NAPKINS OFF another table and went to the counter until someone noticed me and gave me a refill (I belive it was the cook who came out from hiding and relieved me of my chronic dry mouth). I seem to have a fear of choking to death while waiting on a refill that may never come-that refill was my best friend at this point. Finished my now cold meal and my mashed potatoes that equaled about three tablespoons when they were brought to me-and went to pay and guess what? NO cashier. Myself and another couple behind me waited a good TEN minutes for someone to notice we needed to pay. They were actually muttering about it behind me so I know they were also unhappy with the service and refill issue. Turns out Ms. Skinny is also the cashier. She was non-apologetic when she finally morphed into a real human behind the register. I mean there was ONE table at that point that was occupied. No reason not to take care of the rest of us!! It was FREEZING cold in there in January the vent blew on me and the couple behind me as we waited forever at the register we just wanted to GO HOME at this point. BTW the black eyed peas were HORRIBLE. I don't know what went into them but that is NOT how we season them in TEXAS. Ms. Skinny should have listened the first time when I told her NO i don't want them but somehow manipulated me into getting them (I guess the cook made too many they needed to get rid of them). Bottom line: You may get a cheap, weirdly seasoned meal here but you sure won't get any service during or afterward. Bring your own tea and napkins and a good warm blanket I won't be back. There are way too many GOOD places to eat at in this area who make Azle Café look like the school lunchroom. read more

I have been here before and had a pretty good lunch. However, I was with my grandparents who go there often. I have recently moved here from Texas and went to this restaurant with my parents, who also just moved her. We were given our drinks quickly and our order was taken. Yet, while taking my Dad's order she stops listening to him and starts having a conversation with another customer. It was terribly rude. Then we waited for our food and after 40 minutes we finally got our meal; much later than the two other tables who had walked in after us. Our food was mediocre and I was not given the ranch that I ordered with my meal and then had to wait for 10 mins to get the waiters attention for the ranch. I will not be coming back here. I loved this place a year ago but I have changed my mind. I too have been grossed out by the appearance of the staff. I have seen the braless waitress with her nipples poking out from a knit shirt, and it was shocking and disgusting. That employee should have been sent home immediately and all the staff should be counseled about the importance of looking clean and properly groomed when they come to work. I also have noticed that the clothes for nearly all of the staff are poorly fitted, for example pants three sizes too small to the point of not staying pulled up or so skin tight so as to be risqué. I've seen the employees sitting out on the front sidewalk smoking on a break every time I've been there. The sickening smell of people who smoke is enough reason to avoid the place. I won't go to Applebee's in Lake Worth because the smell of cigarettes hits you in the face upon entering. I think its Management 101 for the appearance and smell of the wait staff to be pleasant, for this is what gives a customer a first impression. Attention all smokers: cigarettes stink and that smell is not only on your breath but also in your hair, on your clothes and exudes from your pores. You may be nose blind to the stench but it is nauseating to non-smokers. The last time I was there the only waitress in the place could only talk on high volume. She was so loud it was not only annoying and obnoxious but disrupting to customers who were trying to eat in peace. I ordered chicken fried steak and was shocked to see the huge amount that was served......two big breaded steaks. I feel that I should have been alerted to this large serving because I couldn't possibly have eaten it all even if I liked it. Unfortunately it was gristly, tough, and so salty that it was inedible, I wouldn't have wanted to eat it all anyway. Amusing, too, was the paltry scoop of mashed potatoes that was served on the plate. There weren't even 3 bites of potatoes to go along with enough meat for half of Parker County! The entire breading fell off in one big piece when I forked one one of the pieces to move it aside. For my 2nd and 3rd sides, I requested a double dinner salad. The loud mouthed waitress made one salad herself from the salad bar and it was too small to equate to 2 side salads. She was also the cashier and I don't think she washed her hands before diving into the salad bar for me. For hygiene purposes, this is a very improper practAdditionally, since it came off the salad bar, I felt like I should have been invited to make my own choices of what I wanted off the salad bar. On a previous visit I asked my waitress if the green beans were fresh, frozen, or canned. She said "all of our vegetables are fresh." Then she sheepishly confessed that the green beans were indeed canned. It didn't take a culinary arts grad to tell it either. I believe she had been directed to lie about the beans but had enough personal integrity to fess up and apologize for lying to me at first. She got a gold star for that. Azle Cafe fits the stereotypical "greasy spoon cafe". It's a loud and rowdy bunch that work there and evidently management/owners don't mind it. The customer base seems to be falling into the same category too from the looks of it. I've been forgiving and have overlooked a lot of things that are hurting the success of this business but I've decided not to go back and I can't recommend it to others. My complaints may seem like isolated incidents but after they numerous opportunities I've given them to show better business ethics, I now believe that the problems are a result of poor management by people who don't seem to know any better, or they have such poor standards in how the business is run that mediocrity in looks, service, and quality are so bad that I cannot say anything good about the place. read more

All you can eat catfish... More like all you can stomach of the fishyest catfish I've ever had. Fried picklea were great till we got to the bottom and the was a literal pool of grease waiting to be discovered. Staff was excellent,cook needs to be replaced if you want to have anyone return. The staff was super friendly and gave off a great first impression. We ordered our food and it was alright. Our omletes were yummy, hashbrowns good. But the oatmeal with blueberries and orange juice we ordered for our child was... Gross. After getting our Bill we came to realize everything we ordered was priced higher then what was on the menu or what was verbally told to us. We probably paid $5 extra just based on those higher prices. When we brought this to our waiters attention she basically said "I don't know what to tell you, the owner tripled the prices and have yet to reflect on the menu. . . And I can't remember the new prices so that's why I gave you the wrong price verbally". For future note, letting your customers know that the price is different than the menu would be very appreciated. read more

Found this local cafe on our way back to Abilene from River Valley MX. We were those people that walk in right before closing, didn't know or we wouldn't have done that to the staff. We used to come to this place often and spent a ton of money seeing as though we have a very large family it was our go to place for dinner once a week but my son who I give cash to every Friday to spend at the cafe was talked to very rudely and had been shoved and told to leave because he was playing the quarter machine that he played countless times and never had an issue but now all of a sudden it's illegal???? I stopped in after being recommended by a friend. Atmosphere was friend and family like. Servers greeted me, and said wherever you like. A good selection on the menu. Breakfast served all day "a plus with me" so I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with a runny fried egg. The order was perfect, fast and hot. I would recommend this place.
