You haven't truly been to Fort Worth if you don't include either breakfast or lunch--why not both--at this street side cafe. Unpretentious is putting it mildly. Booths or tables, you choose. But be ready for over the top friendly quick service. I love the banter with the staff. Food is solid and roadside diner-like. A must is the chicken fried steak--really tender beef and NOT covered in a heavy breading. The sawmill gravy is a bit thin, my only complaint. The fried chicken lunch special is excellent too. Veggies are solid--love the mashed potatoes and the lettuce salad. Chocolate and coconut pies are legendary but man the lunch servings are so generous I don't know how you could do both. It's traditional in all ways--cash only!

If you're looking for a quick breakfast place with great specials, this is the place! The staff are always friendly and they don't let the coffee cup run dry! This has become our go to place when we come through Fort Worth.

First time here and we will be back. Best breakfast I've had in a long time. Biscuits were fluffy and homemade. Good sausage and gravy, bacon cooked to perfection. Kind of felt like I was stepping back in time but in a good way. Great service! Highly recommend!!!

Cheap, QUALITY food. Can't beat the prices. Staff is friendly. The restaurant itself is a bit old and dated, but that's what gives it character. Nice little diner that I'll go back to for sure.

We'd heard about the cafe in the local news, and decided to drop in for Saturday morning breakfast around 9AM. After putting our name in and waiting about 10 minutes, we got seated across from the front door - it was a cold morning, so every time that door opened (which was often) we felt a rush of cool air that our breakfasts did not appreciate. It is a SMALL space trying to accommodate more folks than is comfortable. The tables are squeezed together making it hard for both guests and staff to get around. Removing even just one table would make a huge difference As for the food! Some of the best breakfast I've had out. I ordered one of the specials, labeled the Nugget - two eggs, bacon OR sausage, waffle OR pancake. It was the perfect amount of food! Very rarely do I finish a meal out but I finished this (save for one piece of bacon I shared with my partner) and was perfectly satisfied. The bacon was cooked just right, the eggs tasted fresh and well seasoned, and the waffle was super light and fluffy. My partner got the three cheese omelette with hash browns, a biscuit with gravy, and an extra single pancake on the side. The omelette itself was good, but the cheese was just piled in slices inside, unmelted. He took two bites before removing all the cheese because it was so unappetizing. The hashbrowns had a great flavor, but were pretty soggy. Standard hatred salsa, and a tasty pancake. The biscuit was the star here - you could tell it was homemade fresh, it didn't even need the gravy (though it was tasty!). He also said the coffee was really good, albeit strong. Overall, friendly staff, cute space, and delicious breakfast. We will be back! Even if it means bumping elbows with other guests.

Traditional American breakfast with great prices! There was not outdoor dining, but indoor dining is available. Tables are not social distanced. I was able to get the bacon breakfast for just about $5 which comes with three pieces of bacon, eggs as specified (I asked for scrambled), a choice of hashbrowns or grits (I got hashbrowns), and biscuits (or your choice of bread/toast). The portion size was almost perfect for me (I was too full to finish the biscuits), but everything on my plate met my expectations. Service is attentive, and the waitstaff is friendly. After eating, you have to pay at the register. I would come back here again, especially since it's so close to Dickies Arena.

Cutest, friendliest and smallest breakfast spot! This place has been around for years just trust me you'll be able to tell from the moment you walk in the door! You'll be greeted by the friendliest girls working and prompt service throughout! They offer just about everything for breakfast and FAST! Food was good service was great!

CFS, mashed potatoes w/ gravy & green beans. $8.50. Sent back, dry potatoes & the thin steak had too much breading.

I was a regular diner for breakfast and lunch while attending real estate school next door in 2008. It was always very good. So after a doctor's appointment I stopped for lunch. Got the chicken fried steak with double mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. The steak is bigger but thinner and is now deep fried instead of cooked on the grill. It had way too much breading. The mashed potatoes were very dry and unseasoned. The green beans were very good but since the rest wasn't I sent it back and left. I'm sure the breakfast is still good but I can get that closer to home so will not be back. If you go during summer take a sweater, they keep it cold in there.

When in Ft. Worth and hungry on a morning-check out Montgomery Street Cafe. We rolled in around 8:30 am and there were a host of regulars sipping coffee, talking shop and getting down to breakfast. This place is old school classic cafe, you won't find gluten free anything-fancy ice coffee or cage free avocados. Sometimes you don't need that fluff-get down to some serious old time breakfast. MSC is everything you'd expect from a trip with your grandpa to the local breakfast joint. History, basics, worn booths and tables and friendly wait staff and a solid no nonsense breakfast. The food was solid, the biscuits looked amazing-we were bummed we didn't order those-but hey, next time. I recommend MSC for your morning hungries.

Pork chop, grits, bacon and of course biscuit and gravy!

I was very grateful that the butter was actually melted on the bread unlike other local breakfast places around town where the bread comes out cold and they give you the butter on the side. While we were there, I observed employees loading whole oranges into the fresh orange juice machine. Several oranges fell onto the floor, and I watched the employees pick the oranges up and place them back into the hopper to be juiced. I asked to speak with the owner but was told the owner was not there. A man who identified himself as the general manager came out. I explained what I had observed. The only question he asked was, "Do you know how many oranges fell onto the floor?" I replied that the number wasn't the issue. My concern was that oranges that had contacted the floor were being put back into the juicer. I did not feel my concern was taken seriously, and I requested the owner's contact information. I did not receive it. Because I believe this is a serious food safety concern, I reported this to the Highland Village Code Enforcement Division for investigation. We were excited to celebrate a special occasion here, but instead we left concerned about the restaurant's food handling practices and the response from management. Based on what I personally witnessed, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

The menu leans heavily on the breakfast side, which will definitely be something we try next time. For today, with our server Isabells' assistance we decided on lunch consisting of Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap, which was plentiful but oversalted a bit, and the Avocado Chicken Cheddar Panini, that was skimpy with the chicken and dry, also missing the cheddar? Bland, flat, and in desperate need of seasoning, we reached for the salt shaker, which helped, but shouldn't have been necessary. The pickles, to their credit, were doing their absolute best and were genuinely the only flavor happening on that plate. Skip these. The pickles deserve better supporting cast. The Cheeseburger with Wasp Sauce on a potato bun, however, is a different story entirely. We ordered it medium, half expecting the kitchen to interpret that however it pleased, but it arrived cooked exactly as requested, which felt like a small victory worth celebrating.
