Years ago, Hubby and I visited @afghancuisineazro for the first time and thought to go back again with Dad. It's in the same plaza as Sushishima and European Dumplings on NW Military Highway. Mr. Bayat greeted us warmly, sat us down, and took our orders. Dad had Sprite, and Hubby and I both had Chai Nana, hot tea with fresh spearmint leaves. We tried the Appetizer Sampler which was a combo of Bolani Gandana (leek), Bolani Kochaloo (potato), Sambosa, and Mantoo (dumplings). There were 3 of each appetizer, which was perfect for 3 of us. We shared the Chalow Kadu (sweet pumpkin) with white basmati rice and Narenj Palow (lamb shank) with saffron rice, topped with candied orange peels, pistachios, and cardamom. Mr. Bayat checked on us then Amir, his son, recommended the Ferni dessert. First time to try the ferni, a milk custard pudding made with almonds, cardamom, and a hint of rosewater, topped with crushed pistachios. The texture reminds me of a firm flan and the taste reminded me of almond jello. Definitely highly recommended.

I love this restaurant. I have been several times. The owner is super sweet and friendly. The food is delicious... by now I believe I have tried almost every dish on the menu. I only wish they add more items or have some sort of special authentic dish every once in a while They have a corner for traditional seating on the floor. The ambiance is more on the classy side. I will keep on returning to this restaurant

I regret not going here sooner. My friend has been raving about this place for months, but I have Celiac disease so I'm always nervous to eat out. When we walked in the staff was attentive and we immediately ordered the best tasting mint tea I've ever had. When we ordered the staff confirmed that the kebab combination is gluten free (and my stomach later agreed). The food came out in good time and was incredible. I highly recommend getting the saffron rice even tho it's a few dollars more expensive. It's worth it. The candied orange peel on the rice complemented the meat beautifully. It's hard to explain how tasty this place was. I just got done eating my leftovers and I'm feeling grateful I live further away otherwise I'd want to eat here every day. Overall incredible experience, I'll definitely be back.

Food was very good and tasty meat. I ordered combination Kabab and it was delicious. Service was good and server was very attentive when I informed him it was a bit cold inside and he turned the heat on and made it more comfortable. I have eaten at other Afghan restaurant and this is the only one that charged for bread. Most other, the bread comes with the meal.

Came after work and was the first ones in when they opened at 5pm. We sat right down, was brought the menus and we went ahead and ordered a few things. We had the chai tea with the spearmint, the mantoo dumplings, the mixed kebab and the lamb shank with the orange peels. We finished the meal with the coconut cake. All the food was very delicious and freshly made. The mixed kebab was our favorite, and we couldn't decide which exact one we like the most. They were all flavorful and the portion was pretty big, we were not able to finish everything. Worth coming for a visit!

You don't have to take a trip to Kabul to enjoy the many delicacies of Afghan cuisine! Afghan cooking is unique in that it's heavily influenced by Indian, Persian, Turkish, and east Asian cooking. It is for all intents and purposes, a kaleidoscope of flavors! This local gem is tucked away in a strip mall, with ample parking available in a lot. The interior is warm, with a subtle ambiance punctuated by contrasting colors and artifacts adorning the walls. I was greeted immediately upon walking in and promptly seated. The owners are wonderfully personable and very welcoming. The menu consists of various rice and kabob dishes with beef, lamb, chicken. There are also vegetarian items. I ordered a mint tea, lentil soup, and Kadu Chalow for my entree. Kadu Chalow is sauteed pumpkin infused with yogurt and mint, and comes with a side of rice. My server was kind enough to substitute my rice with the Kabuli Pulao variety, which is cooked with raisins, carrots, and pistachios. For starters, a simple side salad with iceberg lettuce was brought out with a light dressing. Next, the mint tea arrived, which was a warm and soothing escape from the ordinary. The lentil soup was hearty, flavorful, and mildy spiced. Finally my entree arrived, and it did not dissappoint! I mixed the pumpkin with the rice and it was savory behind belief! The sweetness of the pumpkin combined with the raisins and carrots was complemented by the crunchiness of the pistachios, delivering a blissfully spectacular dish of epic proportions! Craving more, I enjoyed a delectable dessert known as ferni - milk custard with almonds, pistachios, cardamom, and rosewater. This was by far, one of the best meals I have ever had. If you're in San Antonio, I implore you to treat yourself to this fine establishment!

Azro's is a small family owned business. I support small locally owned businesses and my favorite cuisine is Mediterranean. Azro has Classic Afghani & Mediterranean dishes in a casual, colorful restaurant with traditional decor. We definitely had to try this place out. Our servers name was Amir. He was very attentive to our needs and gave excellent recommendations off the menu. I must say anything you try on the menu is going to be outstanding. The lamb is very tender, like fall off the bone tender. If it's your first time going here, I suggest ordering anything that is grilled off the menu. Their hot green mint tea is really refreshing. I couldn't get enough of it. One of my favorites was saffron rice, it was made with the best fresh ingredients. I had the Kabab-e- Gosfand , chunks of marinated lamb with Afghan spices grilled to perfection. My guest had the combination Kabab which is the chicken, lamb, and beef marinated with Afghan spices and also grilled to perfection. The inside of the restaurant takes you back in time , you feel like you're sitting inside of a real Afghanistan restaurant very nice and quaint.

In the last year, my husband has introduced me to a variety of halal and Middle Eastern eateries, and this place is one of my favorites. Everything I tried that day was delicious, and I'm excited to go back and try more things on the menu. Staff is warm and friendly, and the atmosphere is homey and welcoming. Truly a great dining experience.

Wow! That's all I can say! Came to the brewery next door and ordered to go from Azro. They brought the food to us at the brewery and they offer the lunch specials if you are ordering from the brewery. I think this is amazing that they are supporting their neighbors and definitely want to make me support their business!! I had the lunch Gyro plate and it was sooooo much food. And super delicious! It was the first time I've been here so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was blown away by the large portion and the flavor! Everything was mixed in. My friend had the lunch gyro wrap and it was surprisingly large! I will definitely be back!

Food and service was excellent. Had the combination Kabobs and the Lamb Chop was seasoned to perfection and the Basmati rice seasoned with Afghan spices raisins and almonds was amazing. Also had Mantoo dumplings and the Chai Nana mint tea an absolute perfect meal. I'll be back and cheers to your chef!

Amazing meal here! Had the kabuli palow and a sambosa. The kabuli palow was amazing lamb if long grain rice that had shredded carrots and raisins for a lil sweetness. The lamb was extremely tender fell off bine melt in your mouth. Split both with my teenager and if was plenty of food. The sambosa was very crispy and had delicious filling. There was more crispy shell than filling but that was fine with me. It came with an amazing sauce. I dont know much about afghan food but now i love it. The decor was very cool for such an unassuming exterior. Will definitely go back!!

Our twelve guests ranged in age from 14-79 years, and everyone had a wonderful experience. We began with waters for the table, soft drinks, and cocktails/mocktails (Man Walks into a Bar, Amba No. 5, Don Alberto, Green Shug Collins). Due to our large party, we had booked a chef's tasting experience, which was spectacular. The appetizers were plentiful, flavorful, and unique. Our server, Anissa, did a wonderful job of explaining each dish-- its components, highlights, even suggesting that after finishing the beef dumplings, we stir the oil and yogurt together for an amazing pita dipping sauce. Our meal included four meats-- actually five, considering an off menu chef's creation for our pescatarian guest. It was such an immersive experience, I never took out my phone to capture photos of the food (or our group, sadly). Three desserts topped off the evening. When (not if) we return, we'll certainly request Anissa again. She made the evening a complete delight, even bringing out celebratory candles for our honored guests.

Overall, I'd say most of the people in our group probably would not go back, but I don't necessarily think that was because the food was bad or lacking flavor. I think a lot of us just weren't very accustomed to Mediterranean flavor profiles and this style of dining. Most of us really enjoyed the dips, the meats, and the desserts. Those were definitely the standout parts of the meal for our group. Some of the dishes in between were a little more questionable for us personally -- we tried everything, but there wasn't necessarily one specific dish we completely fell in love with. That being said, the experience itself was amazing. The atmosphere was so cool and unlike anything we had done before. Being served course after course and getting to experience so many different dishes made the meal feel really unique and memorable. All of the staff members who waited on us were absolutely fantastic and so understanding of some of our questioning looks while trying unfamiliar foods. Everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made the experience feel fun and comfortable from start to finish. If you already love Mediterranean food, this place may be right up your alley. I just think it's good to know what kind of flavor profiles to expect before coming, especially if you're newer to this type of cuisine. Overall, we still had a great time there.

It doesn't feel like a strip mall restaurant. It feels intentional. The pastry case alone deserves its own review. Piped butter cookies, rose-dotted squares dusted with cardamom, delicate filled rolls -- it's the kind of display that makes you order dessert before you've even sat down. And then the food. The chicken shawarma bowl is not playing around -- seasoned chicken, kalamata olives, crumbled feta, creamy garlic sauce over a bed of greens, finished with cracked pepper. Every bite is layered and bold. The kind of meal that makes you pause mid-fork and just appreciate it. What sets Tripoli's apart isn't just the food or the ambiance. It's that the whole experience feels curated. Like someone who actually loves this culture built this place and meant every single detail. San Antonio has been sleeping on this gem. Wake up!!

I had a hard time walking out without calling for the manager or owner. I would like to start my…read morepost with the positive so here it goes. The ambiance was great, everything from the decorative rugs, Arab writing on the wall, tagine pottery and brass crafts were perfectly displayed. The tabbouleh salad was very tasty, it had the right amount of ingredients making it pretty as well as colorful placed in the neat brass metal bowl. Now with the things that require immediate remedial attention: 1. The burger was overrated, overcooked and dry. 2. The chick pea salad lacked chick peas, dressing, onions and feta cheese. 3. The lamb Kofta plate was prepared right however, it was not enough meat for the price and the cream sauce tasted like straight butter with a hint of garlic. The pita bread was lukewarm and looked like it had been unwrapped, quartered and thrown in a microwave for 30 seconds prior to serving it. 4. Drinks Ordered: The Cafe' Arabia was very tasty BUT, I didn't get it until we were almost done with our meal. We ordered drinks when we were first seated so that was a big red flag. My wife also ordered the Moroccan mint teapot and she didn't get it until after I got my coffee. I told the barista/waiter to cancel it when I got my coffee but he said it was also ready for us and could put it in a to-go cup for her. That kind of defeated the whole experience of drinking tea while waiting for our meal. 5. The service was really slow. Took over 15 minutes to get our (tap) waters and 20 minutes for our food when we were the only ones in the restaurant until we had placed our order. 6. The waitress needs some serious people skills and bussing training to know how to serve food and drinks. She touched the tops of the glasses her fingers. She didn't greet us and practically dropped the plates on the table when she brought them out. To add insult to injury, she put the handheld pay device on the table without asking us if we wanted or needed anything else. My kids wanted to try out some desserts, so luckily for us, the nearby HEB has plenty to offer. I had high hopes for this place because of what the owner posted on Instagram and it is so close to our neighborhood. Guess we will have to continue driving further into the city to other Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern restaurants that have better food and service.
