I ate here outside in the courtyard and had take out once. The ceviche was excellent, the mole on the chili relleno flavorful and everything else more than adequate. It's hard to really enjoy oneself at a restaurant these days, even one that has open outside seating and good hygiene practices. The staff seem conscientious and earnest and I hope this restaurant makes it through the year of the plague and becomes a place for birthdays and fiestas of all kinds, romantic dinners and just good times, which will come again, of that I feel certain. read more

This was a good choice for lunch while in Taos. It is very causal and had many locals dining there. You can sit outside (and bring your pup!) or inside. I had the tacos - beef and pork - and my friend had the chicken quesadilla. Both were served with pinto beans and salsa. The food was quite good! We enjoyed our meal. We were looking for a dinner place that was not an hour or hour and a half wait and stumbled across this restaurant. The service was quick and friendly and the food was a delicious! The guacamole was homemade and amazing! We had salads, tacos, and carve asada and everything was delicious. We will be back! read more

We came back a second time because we loved the food, the service and the ambiance so much! The little out door courtyard is lovely and cozy. The Huaraches were superb, both in prime angus and al pastor. My husband loved the combination plate with cheese enchilada, pork tamale and chicken taco. To be fair, I was looking for some authentic Mexican food.. This is definitely not that!! Ordered camarones a la diabla & it wasn't even real chile it was Franks Hot Sauce! Wtf?! The salsa that they make u pay for with chips is also store bought bottle salsa why are people so lazy??? It takes 2 seconds to make a real salsa! This place has been the best food experience that I've had in Taos! This is my first time visiting Azteca and I will definitely be coming back in the future. Their drinks are excellent, everything is truly homemade and special, and the service by Lily was excellent as well. My fiancé had the rellenos and I had the huaraches al pastor. the rellenos were huge, well cooked and bursting with cheese. The huaraches had some of the best pastor I've ever tasted. If this place is busy, do yourself a favor and wait. It's well worth it. read more

I stopped in solo for some chips and a margarita after a day in the sun. I came in around 5pm and there was space available both indoor and outdoor. I loved the quaintness and beauty of the outdoor space. The service was very attentive and polite and the servers were following strict COVID measures including wearing gloves. The house margs are super tasty and have a nice kick to them. The chips were fresh and the salsa and guac were outstanding! They even offered me a refill on the chips. The outdoor seating was relaxing and even though I was a table of one, I never felt rushed. I would love to come back here and have a full dinner or take out. The only downside is no queso, but I had to remind myself I was at an authentic Mexican restaurant, and not Chipotle. read more

Authentic, friendly neighborhood restaurant with delicious food. My husband and I wanted a place in walking distance from our VRBO casita. We were delighted to find Azteca was a 7 minute walk with a comfortable outdoor patio. It was so good we ended up eating there twice (Saturday and Sunday). I had their shrimp tacos the first night and cheese and chili filled tamales the second night. My husband had enchiladas one night and combo plate (taco, enchilada, tamale) the second night. My husband ordered a chile relleno topped with mole sauce. This was different but it was the best chile relleno he has ever had! The chips and salsa were delicious as well however they charge you for the basket of chips with salsa ($4.50). This is actually the first restaurant we visited that charges for the chips and salsa and the waiter asks you if you would like the chips and salsa but does not tell you he will be charging you for them. read more

The food is amazing! We met friends for dinner and started with the Mango Habanero Margarita,... a must try. Food portions were substantial and oh so tasty. This was a bit of a disappointment. My meal was good. I had Plato Combinado. Nothing over the tip, but a good meal. My wife had Huaraches which came with frijoles charros on the side, which was terrible. My wide asked what was in it. The waiter said bacon and sausage. It was pig fat and hot dogs! My family was visiting Taos and decided to take a chance and go out to eat. We had waited for another near restaurant for nearly an hour to be seated, only to be told they would not be able to accommodate our group and they were closing. While walking around the plaza I saw Aztecs Mexican Grill and called them to see about being served. The young man who answered was very helpful and was able to seat our entire group on the patio near one another. The servers were great and the food was delicious! Just enjoyed one of the most delicious Mexican meals I've ever had and I'm from California and have had more than my share of Mexican food. I ordered a Huaraches with al pastor, loaded it up with the lime and all the fresh, colorful pico de Gallo, pinto beans and it was fantastic. It was more than I could eat so shared with my husband and he agrees, delicious! He'd ordered the chili rellenos with mole and said he'd order again, how about dinner tomorrow? Service very good, patio pleasant and, I'm not proud of this, ordered the tres leches cake even though we were very satisfied. Sometimes you just have to say yes! We were so excited to try this as our first meal in Taos. Yelp said they were open. Also double checked hours on google and their website. Open! Great! We drove there, parked..... and nothing. Lights off, no one home.... Weird. No sign, no nothing. So we started walking back to the car, and saw a faded sign that said they were closed for a few weeks. Awesome. read more

Being a native of Texas and growing up eating Mexican food and Tex-mex my entire life I would never adventure to eat here again nor recommend it to anyone. Food was very bland no flavor and have had better at family functions at home. Very overpriced for what you get also. The beer wasn't even cold. Two stars are only for the service. And the food was even better. The salsa incredible. I had the huaraches. $10.00 and was possibly the best Mexican dish ever. My wife loved her food too. They have only been open less than 4 months through the COVID mess. Pleas don't miss this place. No kidding! read more
