Azteca Mexican Grill is a good sized restaurant with an interior dining room and large patio. They are super convenient because they are near Taos Plaza, but they have their own free parking lot. We were fortunate to be seated when we arrived, but it was hectic. We flagged down a server who helped us even though we were not in his section (we felt like the great unassigned table). The fresh chips and salsa were worth the purchase, and they even bring more salsa when there are still chips to be eaten. They have super fresh horchata and limonada, but the margarita was just okay as it tasted like a mix. The food was fantastic. I had only a bite of DH's beef taco and pork tamale, but both were on point. The LOs had excellent quesadillas, and the restaurant gladly swapped the listed fries for rice and beans. My veggie enchiladas, Christmas style, were fantastic. I love the mix of veggies, which included zucchini, squash, carrots, mushrooms, onions and corn. The celery was a little weird, but it added a nice crunch. The beans were super fresh and well seasoned. This busy restaurant is definitely worth the visit! The food was pretty good, but our favorite part was the patio. They also have a "bucket of beer" that makes for a pleasant hang. The nachos are huge and well apportioned with ingredients. There is better food available, but the ambience here is pushed it over average. read more

My mom always used to say "If you can't say something good about someone, don't say anything ", so I wasn't going to write a review on Azteca. But I must. Maybe the chef that made all the good food in previous reviews is no longer there, or had the day off. We loved the patio atmosphere, even when a storm blew up and we had to move under cover. The staff was all pleasant. However. The tortilla chips were okay, the salsa and guacamole could have been inexpensive offerings from a grocery store. My wife got the Plato Combinacio, a taco, a cheese enchilada, and a tamal. The enchilada was smothered in congealed cheese. There was virtually no flavor in any of the three offerings. She also got a House Margarita,which was likely just made from a mix. I got Chicken Enchiladas, with red and green (Christmas) sauce. Unfortunately, the green sauce was yellow, and could have come out of a can. The red sauce was red, but I've had better from a can. Seriously, I e made fast, easy enchiladas that were orders of magnitude better than these. I'm hoping maybe it was just a bad day in the kitchen for them, but I won't be going back to see. read more

We have been coming here the last several years during a music festival and it, despite Covid, continues to be consistent! And good lord! The food remains to be fantastic! Had dinner here on our first night in Taos and it was delicious. I had the very, very fresh ceviche tostada. It was just yummy. Everything about it was just about perfect. Crisp salty tortilla, fresh salsa and avocado, and lots of tender fish. My husband had a very delicious chili relleno with a mole sauce that was rich and bursting with poblano flavor. Super chill place, nothing fancy. Their ceviche and fajitas were really good. The margaritas we had were a little bland so we should have had a beer or wine instead. Staff is really nice and they kept the place and bathroom very clean. It's a good spot to grab something quick to eat right before 8pm. Even though they close at 8, the owner said as long as you arrive before 8 you'll be served. Better than have to go to McDonalds because almost everything closes at 8pm. read more

Nestled on a tiny side street, this authentic Mexican grill enfolds a cheery patio with a cascading fountain and garden flowers. My Azteca burger had grilled peppers and onions, and interestingly, swiss cheese. Very good, generous, filling. My husband's tender, well-seasoned, shredded beef burrito was chubby, smothered in spicey green chili. I was looking for New Mexican cuisine and this place hit the spot. Very good food and service. The Ceviche app was fresh and plenty for two. I had a combination platter with a cheese enchilada (good with the ceviche) a chicken taco with red Chile and a delicious tamale with green chili sauce, beans and rice. I was in Taos with a girlfriend for my birthday, yes during this covid, but we surely made the best of it. We hiked the gorge and also traversed and hiked to the Manby Hot Springs! It was short trip but also a lot of fun! Upon returning to our airbnb from the hot spings, we were exhausted and hungry! The original plan was to dine out on a patio (of which they do have!) but we had been out in the sun for hours and just wanted to get back to our digs and relax. We remembered seeing this place on our way in and decided to give it a try since it was en route to the weekend homestead. We ordered Calamari and an Alfredo with chicken and green chile from the parking lot, and waited. After about 15 minutes we walked up to the hostess stand that is located at the entrance of their patio and were kindly greeted by several staff all wearing masks. They were very friendly and handled our ticket for us there at the stand. The food smelled delicious! We were so glad we had a short drive to our final destination. The calamari was cooked up perfectly. Lightly breaded with still a little crunch. A nice combination of rings and tentacles too! You can tell it was fresh squid, not old and rubbery. Served with a few limes and a dipping sauce, scrumptious! As for the Alfredo, it came with grilled chicken breast cut into strips along with a couple slices of bread. It definitely hit the spot. The linguine noodles were cooked al dente and the green chile didn't over power the alfredo sauce. Yum! The only thing we regretted was not ordering another entree! The next time I find myself in Taos, I will surely be back to Azteca to try somemore dishes! Maybe I'll actually make it into the patio to dine in! read more

I drive quit a distance to have lunch with some old friends and to discuss business. Our service was awful--food was good and hostess disappointing. Hostess told a group waiting we'd paid our bill and not once but twice allowed this other group to come harass us and ask us to leave because the hostess told them we were done--or so she thought. I loved the outdoor patio dining and the service and food were top notch. I went with a couple of friends to a Weds night dinner and I had never been to this restaurant before. I had the beef enchiladas with red chilie sauce. It was big and stuffed with shredded beef brisket that melted in your mouth and the sauce was just hot enough to keep you eating. Very accommodating and friendly Mexican restaurant just off the Plaza in Taos. Our extended family used them for takeout a couple of times during our vacation right around the corner. The kids were really enthusiastic about a variety of tacos, and I'd say the food is a cut above most similar restaurants, but the choices are the usual ones. I liked my enchiladas, too, and we all really liked their beans! The food here at Azeteca Mexican Grill is awesome. I normally find something I like and stick with it, however, I have felt comfortable trying different dishes at Azteca. Wow!! Everything is awesome! The Nachos are delicious and are plentiful. I love the beans and rice here. They are cooked to perfection. I like Tamales and the ones at Azteca are perfect. I have also tried the Enchilada and was not disappointed. When we can't decide where to eat, I usually suggest we go to Azteca. The patio area is very nice and they have no problem with our service animal. The staff is always nice and very helpful. We have been there when they were really busy and they handled it all very with smiles. We will keep going back to Azteca..... read more
