Came here on two separate occasions (for lunch and for dinner) and both times did not disappoint. The servers were really friendly and accommodating. I loved the seasonal menu! The food was very well prepared both times. The music was a little louder than I'm used to but I guess it makes sense due to the bar area.

Food is amazing here and margaritas were strong and delicious! Great happy hour deals. They also have a DJ adding to a great vibe. You cannot skip on the tacos!

If you are looking for a slightly modern Mexican dining experience, you have to check out Bárbaro Taquería. The ambiance is really nice with a contemporary feel that still manages to be warm and inviting. The service here is absolutely outstanding. From the moment we walked in, everyone was super attentive and genuinely friendly. Our server was fantastic, offering great recommendations and making sure we had everything we needed without hovering. Seriously, top notch hospitality. Now, let's talk about the cocktails. Wow! They are even better than the service, which is saying something. Creative, well balanced, and just plain delicious. They really know what they are doing behind that bar. The food menu features elevated takes on classic Mexican dishes. We tried a few different things and everything was beautifully presented. My only small hangup, and the reason for the four out of five stars instead of a perfect five, is that some of the flavors were just a little off. Not bad by any means, but a couple of dishes had a note that just did not quite hit the mark for me. Maybe a spice was a touch too strong, or something was missing a little brightness. It was not enough to ruin the meal, but it kept it from being absolutely perfect. Overall, I highly recommend this spot. It is a fantastic place for a date night or a nice dinner with friends. Just be prepared for some truly excellent drinks and service, even if a few of the food flavors are a tiny bit unexpected. 4.2 stars.

We ordered the carne asada tacos and they were a little small, so I definitely recommend ordering 2, but they were delicious. There wasn't any room to sit down while waiting for a to-go order because the place was so popular! The staff here are kind and attentive. Definitely coming back again!

We were in the area due to a prescription being filled at the local Walgreens and were in the need of lunch. Tacos sounded good, so we did a quick search and Bárbaro came up. We decided to mosey over and we loved it! From the moment we walked in, the wait-staff welcomed us, treated us with kindness, and were super helpful. Great hospitality! The location is cute, clean, and inviting. They even have a patio for seating in warmer weather. Since we were ravenous, we started with the Chips with Salsa Trio. It was SO GOOD! My favorites were the non-creamy salsa verde and the pico...but they were all good! A great value! I got the Al Pastor tacos which comes with two hearty tacos. The flavors were spectacular! Smokey, sweet, and savory! It was so good I had to force myself to take my time or I'd gobble them all down! My husband got the Al Pastor burrito and it was also delightful! He let me try a bite and the similar flavors burst through, just with the extra beans and tortilla. If you are hungrier, the burrito is the route to go! We were bummed to not get drinks since it was so early in the day because their drink list looked fantastic! We MUST go back! Prices were reasonable, portions were just right, and the overall experience was phenomenal! Next time we are back in the area, we will definitely stop by! Thanks for a great lunch, Bárbaro!

My pick- Barbaro Taqueria. We got the guacamole appetizer, it was right up there with the guac I had in Mexico. Bright, fresh with the right amount of citrus. And a lot of it! Donna had the ribeye tacos- steak, potato crisps. cotija cheese, morita salsa and beans. Other than the potato crisps being a bit odd, she liked it a lot. I got the duck barbacoa based on a regular's recommendation. Glad I did, tender duck in maquey leaves with roasted pineapple salsa. Nice clean flavor, just spicy enough for me. Sat at the bar since it was otherwise a 45 minute wait. Bartender was attentive and friendly.

What distinguishes truly great Mexican food is freshness and a precise balance of flavors, and Barbaro continues to excel in both. I never thought I'd love mole--until I tried theirs. The spices, the perfect amount of heat, and the vibrant flavors all come together to create an unforgettable dining experience. Simply excellent.

First time at this spot and will return again! I ordered a Paloma that started the evening off well. Followed by a carne asada taco set that was very impressive. The table split several appetizers that were also crowd pleasers. Overall, great experience!

Yum! Amazing tacos and margaritas for a super affordable price in a great cozy environment. Service was prompt but not overbearing and the fish tacos were some of my favorite ever!

Running errands with a friend on Saturday, we were craving tacos, but wanted to try a new spot: Enter Bárbaro Taquería, a cute neighborhood spot situated on a corner. Intimiate in size like many Chicago restaurants, it doesn't lack in service and quality. Our server was attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The margarita was perfectly crafted with just enough tequila. The Las Botanitas will sure to be a crowd favorite, as it provides everyone with something they'll like. But the star here is the Mushroom Tacos! Street taco size, you'd think they'd be too small, but they're so filling! Full of shittake mushrooms and the goat cheese crema gives the taco almost an umami flavor from your traditional cheese. I'd come back here just for these!

Imagine my shock when we didn't even make it past the bouncer because he was so rude, AS OTHER RECENT REVIEWS HAVE MENTIONED AS WELL! We had dinner nearby and walked to Bisous after, and saw there was a line of 5 or 6 people outside. We expected this as we knew Bisous is a first come, first serve bar. We were curious what the wait time would look like, so we approached the front door to ask a host or employee inside (we assumed there'd be a desk with an employee working it who could give us a wait time). We had no problem waiting, just wanted to see how long they estimated it would be! Before we could even fully open the door, the bouncer swung the door open from the other side and hit me with the door. I stumbled back a few steps and he looked at us and said, and I quote, "What do you want?". I laughed at first because I thought he was joking and putting on a tough guy act. He was not. We quickly explained we just wanted to see what the wait time was, and he said "don't you see there's a line outside?" We said yes, and explained we just wanted to know a rough estimated wait time. He just blankly stared at us while ushering us out. Both my boyfriend and I have worked in customer-service roles for a very, very long time. This encounter was not only extremely rude and unprofessional, but he also hit me hard enough with the door to send me stumbling back, and then said nothing about it and continued to address us in a tone that was nothing less than annoyed and irritated. We didn't end up going inside because that encounter left such a bad taste in our mouths. I don't believe in spending my money at establishments that don't treat their customers with the bare minimum respect they deserve! Bummed we didn't get to experience it, as I'm sure it was lovely inside and I can only hope the rest of the employees were much more kind and accommodating, or at least able to answer a simple question. Fire your "bouncer" (??) and hire someone with some basic customer service and communication skills!!

I ordered the horchata 2 ways cocktail which was $12 for haply hour and is typically $16. $12 is the highest amount for a happy hour cocktail that I have ever paid and I dont think it was worth it. The 1st sip was good but it was a very sweet drink and I was over it by the end. The drink also was half a very heavy cream so when you drank it you were drinking the liquid but not getting much of the cream. So you either had to lick the cream off the top or drink on the liquid and then either leave the cream or somehow scoop it out with your tongue so not really a well conceived cocktail. One of the fun and unique things about the bar is they bring out free tapas every once in a while similar to bars in Spain. They brought out edamame to the people at the bar right around 5pm and a group next to me asked at around 530pm if more tapas would come out and the bar person said the come out every 45 mins. I was there til around 630pm and another round of tapas never came out so do not expect that if you go. They did not give you water unless you specific ask for it which I though was odd, I heard 3 groups besides myself at the bar who had to ask for water, especially since this is supposed to be a nice cocktail bar and this is just one of my pet peeves but the water did not contain ice and was closer to room temperature which is not how I enjoy my water. Despite not being super crowded I had to ask for the check from 2 different people and it took 15 mins for them to bring it so if it is crowded I expect they will have pretty slow service. They do bring you a fortune cookie woth your check where you can potentially win a discount on your check or other prizes which is fun. Unfortunately the fortune cookie tastes a bit stale. I would say that this place is not worth it for happy hour but it had a cool but very dark vibe in there so it might be good for a romantic date depending on how good the food is.
