Today was my first experience with racism in my 53 years of life. My drinks came with hair in it, and when I sent it back was told my manager on duty, also the bartender that she would not remake because "ITS AFRICAN AMERICAN HAIR". It seemed expensive until we bit into the the first taco. Omg. Chips and guac are typical but the tacos are superlative. Get something you normally wouldn't get. Our fave ended up being the CAMPECHANOS. We're for sure going back and getting some of the fall platters. And more tacos, of course. This place is DELICIOUS. The freshness and the quality of the food is top tier. The price for it is pretty cheap tbh. We had their steak torta, pastor tacos, and green enchiladas with palomas to drink. I was AMAZED at their torta. The bread they use is authentic telera bread and not soggy at all. Just like the ones from Guadalajara. LOVED it. The meat is not greasy at all and super flavorful!! The palomas are created with fresh grapefruit juice and all and I was just AMAZED. The enchilada sauce was SO good, although I wished they were made of meat and not cheese. The tacos were also good but I wish we could choose them singularly and not in pairs of twos. Living just down the street and driving past daily, we will definitely have this spot on the top on our list for ordering Mexican food! It's definitely a higher end Mexican joint but you definitely get what you pay for. We started with the appetizer sampler that came with guac- A+ and this corn dish, similar to elotes- A+ and two different salsas- just okay-B. But our entrees blew us away! The steak burrito-A+++ tender well marinated steak, beans, tomato, lettuce, super cheesy then grilled. Meat to veggie ratio was perfect, pieces of steak to the last bite. I really wanted to like this place as something a little more upscale than a typical taqueria which also included vegetarian friendly options. Unfortunately the food (vegetarian options at least) were not good. We ordered the Queso Fundido, as well as the Mushroom and Rajas Poblanas tacos. All of the food was incredibly bland and oily. Bárbaro is my favorite place for Mexican food right now. If you live in Humboldt Park, you should call this place your neighborhood joint but Bárbaro is also worth taking a trip for. The service staff are always friendly and welcoming. The food is authentic, delicious and consistent. There's a homey yet stylish, designedly vibe at this friendly taquería and i highly recommend giving this place a try. Not to mention if you are a dog person, pups are welcome on the patio. The staff was a little short tempered... they did not come to our table for about 7 minutes after we were seated and I went up to the server to ask if we needed to order online and he went over took our order. I am never disappointed when I eat here. My only regret is that I didn't take pics of food to show off in this review. Ok, so I took a picture of our cocktails which were . We had chips, guacamole and esquite which is always good. Cocktails are strong but not overpowering and definitely not sweet which is good! We had the following tacos: rajas, fish, asada, barbacoa. All delicious. The asada is seasoned perfectly, and my 4.5 year old had four fish tacos with all the toppings minus the habanero salsa. My brother ordered tinga sopes, and I make tinga all of the time but damn not like this. The chicken was as soft and tender as butter. And the flavoring was on spot. It was my favorite, along with the barbacoa because the sauce that was kind of like a mole. It not as thick was so good. They shine in their salsas and creative combinations of flavors. I came to this place for dinner and drinks with my girlfriends. The service was slow but it was a friday night so it makes sense. I appreciate the wide variety on their menu and they seem to accommodate to different diets. I ordered fish tacos (they come in a set of 2 and u can't mix and match) and a pina colada. The pina colada was different than I expected (fancy too) and strong i tasted more of the rum than i'd say pineapple or coconut, I wasn't really a fan of it, but my friend liked it. The fish tacos were huge, very stuffed but the spice of the sauce they put over powered the flavor of the fish or the other toppings, in my opinion. My friend said she really enjoyed her shrimp tacos. We got an appetizer Las botanitas, it was chips with sides of salsa verde, guacamole and like a cup of elote. The Guac didn't really stand out, but the chips and salsa were good. The elote was also good, I would come back to try the mole or shrimp tacos. read more

First of all I think this place does have a cool vibe and the servers, drinks all look amazing. I think this is a good place to go if you wanted to grab a chill drink or two and nibble on some snacks. Do not come here for dinner or food only bc it really isn't that. Two adults had 5 tacos, 1 gordita, chips n salsa (for an extra $5, it doesn't come with the tacos) plus two ice teas for $3.50 each. The tab was $37 without tip.... its kinda steep bc after we had to go to Burger King. Mind you we are not BIG eaters but we did want dinner...... The tacos..... overall are good/ decent but again there are sooo many around and about that I would not come back here just for that. I would come back for drinks. read more

Insanely good Mexican food. Best I've had outside of Pilsen in Chicago by far, and probably the best Al Pastor taco ever. Handmade tortillas are incredible. Super elevated and authentic and tacos are pretty big. Torta was incredible. Cannot wait to go back and hope people support this place during Covid because it's truly incredible! Maybe the best Mexican place in Bucktown/Wicker/Logan. Incredible tortillas - pliable for the perfect curl but sturdy enough to avoid breakage and thick enough to avoid sauce spillage. Excellent salsas and seasonings on the Barbacoa and Al Pastor. The steak burrito is packed with meat but balanced brilliantly with enough fresh veggies to keep it feeling refreshing each bite. Attentive staff and solid drink list plus reasonable prices have this spot at the top of my list for neighborhood Mexican places. read more

Best tacos in Chicago! I'm from Texas and previously lived in New York. Great Tacos in New York are hard to find, but I'm glad I had to move to Chicago to find the tastiest tacos I could have! What happened here? Tacos are just okay now. everything, and I mean absolutely everything, is pre-made. Ordered 3 types of tacos and they all came out before the drinks. Speaking of drinks. What the heck? Ordered a mezcal Paloma and it was awful, bitter and watered down. When I talked to my server about it I was argued with about mezcal. Unfortunately, I've been bartending for over a decade -- I don't want to argue about a bad drink I just want a replacement and to never talk about it again.
