Since I like partaking in sweets while traveling, I decided to go in and check this place out. BC is a decent size for a candy shop; the merch is scattered throughout the floor and they stock a mix of loose generic candy you can buy in bags or bulk, and branded confections. The focal point is the center counter that houses chocolates and a few other selections. The stock was a little sparse if I'm being honest; I'm used to really showy candy shops along the shore with a vast variety of merchandise, but I didn't find that here. I decided to pick up some Australian licorice and some of their jumbo peanut butter cups. I'm familiar with the brand of licorice, but as far as the chocolate it was quite good - the cup was stuffed generously with peanut butter. It was also very smooth which gave it a good mouthfeel. Service was friendly, but overall I didn't think Balboa Candy was anything too noteworthy. Good as a standard candy store, but I've been to better ones.

Lady staff was okay. I asked for recommendations. She said their chocolate chip cookie is a crowd favorite. I had to step away for a few minutes. By the time I got back, they ran out of it. I should have gotten it when I had the chance. Oh well. Price per cookie ranged from $5 to $7+ which I thought was just a tad steep. I don't mind paying for high end cookies if they are truly worth every penny. Unfortunately, I can't say my $5 snickerdoodle was the best I've ever had. As soon as you walk into the bright white store, you are handed a sample piece of chocolate of the day. I don't remember what flavor it was, but all I remember was that it was DELICIOUS! They will let you sample other flavors as well. For the $200+ purchase we were about to make, I could have gone into a chocolate coma! My wife proceeded to load up a shopping basket with half the store, while I did my Yelp thing and took pictures of everything. This is not a very large See's, but they did have a large selection of pre-packaged chocolates, as well as a la carte pieces in the display cases. SInce it was already November, most of the items on the shelves were Christmas themed, wrapped and ready for gift giving. We ended up shipping most of it home. For my grand niece's birthday party the following week, we brought a box of the lollipop variety pack and it was a hit with all the kids!

They have several sizes of cups and cones - I decided on the smallest cup (they call it a kid size) that allows one scoop. The ice cream was really good - smooth and not overly sweet which was a welcome surprise. Overall, I was impressed with Summerland. The aesthetics leave something to be desired, but the ice cream was quality and I would return if I'm ever in the area again.
