A homey place to be in with several table. We were nearby so decided to stop in for coffee. Ida made our lattes. We added caramel syrup to it and enjoyed our chat. Next time we will try the foods.

Ida's never disappoints. We're very lucky to live across the street from such an amazing restaurant. I just had the chicken cheesesteak for the first time and it was incredible and completely packed with meat. If you haven't tried Ida's, you're missing out!

Randomly popped in to grab a bite while I was dogsitting in the area. This place is amazing! Definitely a spot for the local Italians playing cards and shootin the breeze, but they were all welcoming and so was the woman running the cafe. (Ida herself, I think!) Delicious food, fast service, and we watched her slice the meats herself ! I would definitely recommend this spot, and I'll be back.

Was I just in Italy? Double espresso, perfect with a creama on top that was superb. Everyone in the joint was speaking Italian. The food was great. Steak, pepper egg and cheese. Huge and only $8 and big enough for two. A basket of perfect crispy fries. Buddy had a feta spinach and egg sandwich. They serve lunch and dinner. The service was very warm. The restaurant was busy. Right in the heart of South Philly. This is a must visit .

The "regulars". Very kind gentleman. Flirts too.

Where can you get $1.50 espresso and a $2 Americano in the city? Here. And only here, at this sweet little no frills, old school Italian cafe in the heart of South Philly. You can expect some of the South Philly Italian charm....one of the dozen seasoned men who just hang out playing cards here will open the door for you, let you go ahead of them in line and call you "honey" or "swetheart". If you're a local, you may see some of your favorite neighborhoods characters here. Freshly made buttery cookies, perfectly almond toned biscotti and flaky croissants for next to nothing. The offerings changes daily. I hear they also make a pretty solid, packed sammy too. I'll have to bring hubs back to try them out and update after. Classic imported Italian grab and go items for sale also. There's a few table outside. Inside the tables are taken by the "regulars" every time I've come. It's cash only. Service is quick. Expect that crazy, unmistakable South Philly parking though.

My family and I got breakfast at Enswell during our stay in Philadelphia. This swanky, hip place…read moreoffers up elevated tasty food and superb service in an exquisitely decorated, albeit small, cafe. We braved negative degree weather for the roughly 10 minute walk from our hotel. We walked in at a good time. This is the type of place where a reservation for breakfast would be required. We were sat immediately. The dining area is tight. A green velvet bench, marble tables, metal chairs, all packed into a small area. You could very well have your butt brush over the table of the patrons next to you if you have to get up for any reason. It's tight. Our server was around quickly. He was super friendly and kept things conversational, light and sophisticated. My wife ordered an iced latte, I had their hot drip coffee. For a starter, we had to try the cinnamon knot bread. While it wasn't what we were expecting, it was good. Although, we wouldn't order again. The bread is presented as a small loaf, room temperature with a cold cream cheese icing drizzled over top. The bread had a mild cinnamon flavor and was dry. It lacked the sweet, moist dough you expect from a cinnamon bread. My wife ordered the French style omelet. This had gruyere cheese and chives. Beautifully plated, perfectly cooked and the taste was spot on. It was good enough to forget that she paid $21 for just an omelet, no meat, no sides. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Pretty standard here. The eggs had bright orange yolks which is common for farm fresh eggs. The "coffee" hollandaise didn't come across with a coffee flavor but it was rich and went well with the ham and English muffins. One thing that stuck with me was their drip coffee. Not sure if it has been a while since I had a light roast but the Rival Bros. Revolver coffee was so good, I got a bag of whole beans to bring back home with me. I may even order it again online. Enswell succeeded on all fronts. The ambiance and service was great. The decor, impeccable. The food, thoughtful and tasty. The details from the silverware to the plates added to the experience. We would come back.

The crab fries and garlic bread are no skips. I hope to come back to try more food! We were lucky to get a table, the hostess was really nice and even found us outside to let us know we could make it! It does get really busy so I felt a bit rushed out but it was all good.
