Phenomenal chicken cutlets. Well pounded, juicy, tender, and holding a crisp crust. Intelligent and well balanced use of oil and tomatoes. Topped with sharp provolone for bitter balance (better than arugula places sometimes use to achieve this balance). I'll add, though, that the bottom half of the roll was dried out (partially stale). I didn't want to allow that to cloud the review because the interior bones of this sandwich were phenomenal and I think this is a 5-star place. However, next time I should politely ask for a new roll. read more

This is our favorite place to get coffee in the neighborhood. I always get a cappuccino, and it's always perfect. The family who owns the Cafe also knows us, so it's nice to see them and catch up. Great selection of drinks in the fridge. I usually get a fun soda to enjoy later. Also the Tiramisu is 10/10!! Can't recommend this place enough. read more

Randomly popped in to grab a bite while I was dogsitting in the area. This place is amazing! Definitely a spot for the local Italians playing cards and shootin the breeze, but they were all welcoming and so was the woman running the cafe. (Ida herself, I think!) You can expect some of the South Philly Italian charm....one of the dozen seasoned men who just hang out playing cards here will open the door for you, let you go ahead of them in line and call you "honey" or "swetheart". If you're a local, you may see some of your favorite neighborhoods characters here. Freshly made buttery cookies, perfectly almond toned biscotti and flaky croissants for next to nothing. The offerings changes daily. I hear they also make a pretty solid, packed sammy too. I'll have to bring hubs back to try them out and update after. This review may not be very helpful. I walked in and absolutely soaked up the atmosphere, though there was little to speak of, just a handful of old Italian men gabbing away in their native tongue. My boyfriend and I ordered espresso, which was good. No frills. I love the artisan coffee shop as much as the next millennial, but the simplicity of Caffe Ida, along with a nostalgic feel really hooked me. read more

Such a great spot to get coffee and food. The espresso is fantastic and reasonably priced. They make croissants there every morning that are filled with chocolate or vanilla. They are a great pairing with a latte. The breakfast sandwiches are massive and will easily feed two people. They are also only $6! Go check this unassuming cafe out. I had their eggs and peppers with extra cheese on a long roll. The food was delicious, well prepared. I also had a cappuccino which was also very flavorful. They open at 7am, even on a Sunday morning. Definitely a nice place to visit, very clean and roomy for such a small place. I will be stopping here again. Proportion size is large. Best espresso prices I have seen in the city: 1.50! Very flavorful, not overcooked and decent sized shots: definitely a legit Italian cafe. Super friendly staff and crowds of customers are always courteous. I didn't see dairy free milk options on their menu but also didn't ask, if that is important to you. Caffe Ida was very populated on the stoop by older Italian gentleman boisterously enjoying coffee, and once you enter the small space you're greeted by the smell of great coffee and a window of freshly made pastries.
