It was nice to find this cafe while we were running errands. I usually order either an Americano or espresso tonic at cafes, so this time I ordered espresso tonic. My husband ordered a cappuccino. The barista was the only employee in the front and manning the business alone. I actually think he did a good job and still kept the good customer service. My husband enjoyed his cappuccino, but I unfortunately did not enjoy my espresso tonic. I think maybe instead of the tonic the barista used either club soda or plain seltzer. Anyway, maybe I will try their Americano and see how it is. read more

Just stumbled upon this place while out in Queen Village today. Excellent, excellent food. So simple, but very flavorful, fresh, and delicious. The guy behind the counter was super nice and brought us our food once it was warm, instead of just calling out the name on the order. Great vibe here, plenty of room to do some work. Adorable little shop that seems to have a stable of regulars who come in all the time. This is definitely a kid friendly spot, as well as a pet friendly spot. Several people were in the shop with either one or both pets or children with them. They have a bunch of picture books to borrow so you can read to your kid (or let the kid read on their own) chairs that are on the smaller side so your small humans don't have too much trouble getting into and out of them, and various pastries and beverages that are appropriate for children (apple cider, hot cocoa, herbal tea) whom you don't want chugging coffees quite yet. In spite of the plethora of children there on a Sunday morning, everyone was still polite and well mannered. There was a mum and her kid next to us, who were quietly playing Uno together. There was a parent with their two (or three?) kids, all of whom were occupied with their picture books or other such diversions, and only occasionally calling for their caretaker to look at something or other. Unlike a lot of "kid friendly" places, this is not the type where you see screaming children running about and making a giant mess that the parents leave for someone else to clean up. This was a spot where people came with their families, had a spot of breakfast or coffee, and went off on their way while respecting the space. It was lovely. There are always two people behind the counter. One to take your order and handle the money, and the other to make your beverage. I like having the separation of tasks, so that the person handling money isn't touching the dishes I'll be putting my mouth on to drink from. Also, if you order something that'll take a bit of time to put together, like a sandwich or bagel or something, they'll bring it up to your table. If you choose to dine in, they'll put your beverage into a ceramic mug, and give you a metal spoon to stir in your sugar. This is such a nice touch! I hate the waste of disposable cups when offering a ceramic mug to drink your beverage from is so much more classy. There was also a third person, going through and checking tables to make sure they're clean, delivering beverages and food to folks sitting outside, and generally keeping an eye on things running smoothly. It's lovely when people take pride in their work space, and maintain it to a good standard. For about $9.50 including tax and tip, we had 2 x large almond milk cafe au lait beverages. For that price, and for it being a local shop that makes excellent coffee, I'd say it was money well spent. read more

I waltzed in here hungover af after a night out on Sansom St. It was the worst kind of hangover though. One of the sneak hangovers. The type of ones where you wake up and are like "damn I'm not even hung...I might just be like that..." then when you're walking down the stairs to go get a coffee you're like wow that hangover that heard me talkin all that mess. One of those hangovers where it so cunningly waits until you are planning your whole day out in your head of all the things you are going to get done, only to wait until both feet touch the earth to say "you sure about that buddy?" It's like the Sly Cooper of hangovers. Only real ones, my fellow PS2 players, will get that reference. All this to say, that hangover SNUCK me on the way to Java Company. I was just going to get a coffee, but knew I needed some sort of bread to help me fend off the sneak. We arrived and saw ample outdoor seating with beautiful, rustic chairs and tables. The quality of chairs and tables really can make or break a coffee shop. This place is what you think of when you think "cute coffee shop," I loved it. Upon approaching the order stand, I was debating what to get to fill up my tummy. My Lil Cuzzo suggested I get the Labneh as "it's really good." "The Lab-wha?" the Croatian Orangutan responded. She began to explain that it was some kind of yogurt spread on bread with cucumbers on top, and then saw my look of dire confusion and just pointed to it behind the little glass. "That looks and sounds horrendous right now," I said. I meant that from my soul too it really did. I ended up getting an americano with oat milk and a plain multigrain bagel, Little Cuzzo ended up getting a dirty chai latte and the Labneh ahahahahahahaha. We sat in the corner and after some time, the waitress came with our items and shook my americano, as it looked black as TON 618, the most massive blackhole in the universe, and said "There is oat milk in there it just doesn't look like it." What am I supposed to say to that ahaha. There is still some debate to this day among Philadelphians on whether or not there was any oat milk in that americano. It is a chicken or egg scenario at this point. I tried Lil Cuzzo's Labneh, because I'll try anything once, and it was GAS. I had to eat every last word. I should have got the Labneh smh. I also tried her dirty chai latte and that was hittin too! I was sitting there with my arms crossed, staring at my plain bagel and americano with alleged oat milk and was like damn, I should have just got her order. my first time visiting today- I got a cappuccino and an "eggle". The coffee was strong and flavorful and exactly what I needed to start my day after a long night. The service was great especially this one young woman who helped me at the register and made sure I got my order! They allow dogs which is my favorite thing in the world because not only did I start my day with good coffee I got to pet a cute poodle in a coat! It's a great sit down spot with indoor and outdoor seating as well as a quick grab and go order spot! Would definitely recommend! Support local businesses! read more

Rolled up to this spot looking for a pumpkin spice latte, of course. The barista said she could add the syrup to anything, so I asked for a pumpkin spice chai latte, as suggested by a friend. Bae got a fresh squeezed lemonade. The pumpkin chai latte was amazing! You get hit with the sweet pumpkin spice goodness and then it follows up with the chai spice in the end. Really delightful. Bae liked his lemonade too. We took our drinks to go and popped a squat in Mario Lanza park around the corner to watch folks bring their doggos to the dog park. Wonderful experience. read more

Allura makes the best cappuccino I've ever had in the whole country! I'm dead serious about it and she's very very nice. They also offer delicious homemade zucchini bread - which is my favorite. I love to stop by and sit for 30 minutes or so and read my book while I savor my cappuccino. I highly recommend this place! read more

Avoid this place at all costs. It looks like it would be a cute & quaint local cafe but it's unfortunately the worst coffee spot in Queen village. Unless you're a regular, you don't get served. Ordered 2 drinks and the regular 2 places behind me got his order first and for only .75 cents (I paid $10 for 2). Many, many times I've been asked what I even ordered after waiting because they've forgotten my drink making everyone else's. Worst of all, they've stolen almost $10 from me via "giftcard." I received a $100 giftcard to this place but when I went to use it, they ROUND UP EVERY transaction to the next dollar without asking. If a croissant is $2.05 then they charged me the full $3. Every single time I went. When I asked about why, she said the giftcard has no cash value. What does that even mean? Every time I went I was unwillingly "tipping" almost $1. On a $100 giftcard. After about 3/4 visits, they had taken enough for a whole drink or croissant. The owner didn't care, just wanted to make her buck! Truly the worst run coffee spot in Queen Village. This is a cute coffee shop to work at. They have good coffee, plenty of small 1-2 person tables, lots of natural lighting, and a good selection of pastries. I didn't give five stars just because there are little things that need to be addressed: the tables could be wiped off more frequently by staff and the bathroom needs a paper towel holder and could just be a little nicer looking in general lol (I just feel like the coffee shop is cute so the bathroom should match). This is a great little nook in the Queen Village neighborhood. There aren't a lot of coffee shops in this area, so this is a great place to go to meet up with a friend, get some work done or read a book. The vibe and decor has a European feel to it in part because there are lots of small round tables scattered about inside and outside - much like you'd find in Paris. This is a total local oasis in super cute old Swedish neighborhood. I felt like I was at a chill rustic but clean-style European cafe. We got iced americanos and would've tried the food (labneh, tuna salad in individual real Tupperware (!), healthy-looking wraps or mini baguette sandwiches) but we already had a huge meal. Staff turnover is about once a week and only about 1/2 of the people there are baristas, the others are just kids who need a job. That's fine but I shouldn't have to explain how to make things like a bagel to Alia's employees. That's her job. But since we're human beings we tip the kids and then Alia wants to charge us extra for cream. Hey lady we're paying your employees salary, That is, if Alia isn't pocketing the tips like Kelly Olsen (Arguably the sweetest person who ever came out of the Philly Java Batista/puppy mill) told me. It's nice to have a coffee shop that opens early in the AM but not when it takes ten minutes to get a black iced coffee. That has been my experience the two times I've been here. No acknowledgement, you must wait for what seems like a long time while person comes out from the back or decides to take your order. Nothing bad to note about the "place": Clean, friendly, plenty of seating indoors and out. But at the end of the day it's about the coffee itself, and this is where PJC falls short. Walk four blocks north to Bodhi or four blocks west to Shot Tower and the difference is vast and undeniable. read more

I had been meaning to come to this place for awhile. I really enjoyed it. About 10-12 little tables with chairs and some outside seating for a nice day. They have a small menu which includes the Eggel which is a fried egg with pesto and cheese on a bagel that was pretty good. We also tried the toast with yogurt olives and olive oil and that was also pretty satisfying. We got there around like 12:30 and there was only one Eggel left. I mean we were definitely there past the normal breakfast time but FYI they only make a certain number of Eggels every morning and when they sell out they don't make more. Going to this place made me wish I were still in school so I had a good excuse to go hangout there with my laptop for a couple hours. Really good atmosphere with exposed brick and great music selection (not too loud, just enough to add a little to the background noise). I tried a lavender something kombucha that was $5.75 and (I hate wasting) couldn't even finish it. I tried their banana bread and it was so dry I had to chase each bite with water. Just moved to the area and was thrilled to find a coffee shop so close. First visit was amazing. Everyone smiling , people chatting happily , owners engaging with customers. Since then my view is more ambiguous. Baristas seem overwhelmed at times and will not acknowledge you if they are busy. It also has a clicky vibe. Like high school. The locals rule this place. There's nothing like sitting outside on a beautiful day, latte in hand, with a pal or business associate. So if you're going to do it, this is the place to set it up. The coffee is great and made with a smile, and they have delicious banana bread that makes my tummy say yes. It's easy to find parking, too, so that means I'm usually not late when I'm meeting someone here. That is worth one star in itself. Let's talk about hot apple cider... that oft-forgotten member of the hot beverage family. I love the stuff. I could drink it everyday. But I don't. Why? Because there's nary a place in southern California that serves it. Hence, when I saw hot apple cider (with cinnamon!) prominently featured on a sign in the window of the Philadelphia Java Company, I knew I had to take the opportunity to pop inside for a sweet, warm, and delicious pick-me-up. The coffee shop is quite adorable, with marble tables, eclectic and mismatched furniture, and a cozy atmosphere. The baristas were total eye candy (not as though I'd *ever* let the attractiveness of the staff sway my opinion of a business -- perish the thought -- this boy has *ethics*). The cider itself was pretty damn good. For $3, it did the trick nicely. It seemed slightly watered-down, but I was in no place to be picky, given how bitterly cold of a day it was. The real highlight was the generous shave of cinnamon. All in all -- a solid coffee shop. I can't think of a better spot for a quick-and-easy warm-up in the Pennsport area. read more
