So, this place has a bit of notoriety from all the drama, but that did not deter me from checking it out. The cafe has a very relax feel to it, and has a decent amount of tables. A few of the tables are very large, which is good when you want to be on your laptop, with your coffee, and some food. The barista was real friendly, so I do no get where the rude behaviors come from. The coffee was a nice pick me up and the bagel with cream cheese was good. The only drawback, they only accept cash. They have an ATM, but I rather not pay a fee. Still, the place deserves to be checked out regardless of what ever useless mudslinging that is being hurled by the "natives" in South Philly. read more

Overall this place is very average, but it's definitely overpriced. It's one of those places who's menu would seem awesome in the burbs, but is whatever in Philly. The bagel sandwiches taste like every other bagel sandwich, but $2-$3 more expensive. For example it's around $2 to add avocado, and the avocado sandwiches have only two toppings whereas the others have 3. I had a gorgonzola, apple and candied walnut everything bagel. Kudos for a good combination, but I didn't feel like I was eating anything that I couldn't get somewhere else in the neighborhood. The vibe reminded me a lot of Benna Cafe, because they have baked goods on the countertop with fun collaged signage, but then again Benna is a lot less expensive so if you're looking for that vibe it's already available at a better price within a couple of blocks. read more

I just got home from B2. I ordered an avocado, tomato, and cream cheese sandwich to go. After waiting for the baristas to make the rest of the waiting customer's coffee, wipe down the machines, and the one guy to have a conversation about music with his buddy at the table....I got my sandwich. When I got home and opened it up, it was a mozzarella (low quality mozzarella) and tomato sandwich. After all that he couldn't even remember what I had ordered. Pretty disappointing. read more

i'll start by saying this: i absolutely abhor the fact that they refuse to use a normal system like any other establishment! this is why i have only ever been to B2 twice. the counter operates like a bar. you may stand there feeling ignored while people who came in after you are being served. there isn't even a sign like "order here". it isnt a BAR, it's a coffee shop. there are a thousand other coffee shops in this city that have figured out how to serve their customers fairly and efficiently and there is really no reason to go reinventing the wheel when it comes to giving people drinks and sandwiches. that being said, i like the green onion cream cheese. I know i could totally make it at home, but i dont. I like that they give you a ton of it, too. i like to really heap it on there. i also like the big tables, but i dislike that they are often occupied by one person who is spread out with their laptop and work stuff while my friends and i sidle into cramped corners. More small tables would seat more people. i really dislike that it is cash only. i tend to avoid cash only establishments. there have been many a mildly hungover morning that i start my trek thiking i'll hit up B2 but end up at dunkin donuts to avoid the cash hassle. read more

The vegan vanilla soft-serve was amazing here. On a summer day, hang out here and enjoy a cheap coffee (much much less than the price of a Starbucks cup of coffee) and treat yourself with a vegan/non-dairy vanilla soft serve ($1.50) with vegan chocolate sprinkles ($0.50). I will certainly be back to hang out and study here more often! The girl at the counter who served me wasn't the most friendly, but not so much that she made me want to stay away from this place. read more

I have to admit. I'm a sucker for iced coffee. I don't even feel bad anymore about spending $2+ on it because it is like my lifeblood and it keeps me going. SO, what's a South Philly girl to do with no Starbucks in a 10+ block radius? Go to B2!!! (or Gleaners, but thats a different review) I always felt like I would be intruding on someones reading group at Benna's, but I have to say, I get a different vibe here. It's more spacious with more room for customers and beautiful natural lighting. The layout is a huge improvement over E's, and has a bar counter and bar stools like Benna's (which I think is genius!) Although there are a ton of tempting food and beverage options written on the blackboard menu, my main mission whenever I hit up a coffee shop is the iced coffee and theirs is a real treat. It cost between $2-2.50 for a large depending on whether you get it to stay or to go and is delicious! Strong enough, not watery, not too much ice - just the way I like it. Grazing over some of these not so good reviews, I decided to stick up for my favorite daily coffee haunt. B2 is where it's at. They have awesome music every time I'm in there (no its not friggin ANIMAL COLLECTIVE or something so hipster you actually never heard of it- its usually Fleetwood Mac or some great 90s jam that brings you right back, it's always appropriate and well received) the crowd is cool and diverse and can range from yoga moms to random members of local bands, gym buffs to local business owners. The coffee is strong and awesome and CHEAP (refills are discounted! or bring your own cup for a discount), they have amazing vegan softserve, and a healthy selection of smoothies. If you don't do healthy, they've got bagels OOZING with cream cheese (vegan too) and a droolworthy selection of pastries right on the bar in front of you. I am personally a fan of an everything bagel with vegan cream cheese, my boyfriend is all about the everything bagel with lox. We actually have a secret code name for his bagel and you're never going to know it. Listen, alot of people don't know how to order here because its a bar set up, I see people in there every day who are new and confused, but my trick is just to make eye contact with someone. It's a small place that is VERY popular, and everyone there busts their butt. The other day a table of like 8 pregnant women came in and all ordered smoothies and bagels (think it was some kind of meeting) so yes I had to wait a few extra minutes for my 20 oz iced coffee; those items take time because each one of them is HANDMADE by a human being. If you don't have a few extra minutes, go to McDonalds and get whatever shit they call breakfast instead, IDGAF. If you are being ignored, remove your ear buds, get off your phone, stop pretending to read your email when everyone knows your checking a missed connection, or maybe you're writing one for yourself- again IDGAF. Drawing signs for their vegan cupcakes is part of their job, just like wiping your ass is part of taking a shit. When's the last time you got to do something fun at your job? Never? OK well stop being jealous then. I have never been treated badly here, infact, I'd be pals with any one who works here, they see me almost every day, always pay compliments to me and they adore me and my boyfriend. Why? Not because we're cool, or dirty or hipsters or whatever, it's probably because we actually ask them how THEY'RE DOING, and we talk to them about their day and lives. They know alot about ours, more than you'd think- baristas know EVERTHING and EVERYONE! Point being, if you have to wait a couple extra minutes while these baristas serve 8 pregnant women handmade smoothies and bagels, WHY DON'T YOU TRY STARTING A CONVERSATION WITH ONE OF THEM? read more

The staff is inconsistent. I've noticed during the day that when the brunette woman with glasses is working (owner or manager?), the negative things I mention in this review seem to disappear. Overall, the food is good and fresh (except sometimes their avocados are a little brown, it's only aesthetic, I know, but still...) and all the beverages I've tried are solid. No one seems to mind if you sit there for hours and work. Overall a great place with a comfortable atmosphere. The only negatives I have are with some of the people who seem to work in the afternoons. They sometimes take their eye off the ball when unsupervised. These are three examples of the types of observations I've made on several occasions: 1. No one really wants to hear you loudly telling your friend how stoned you got last night while ignoring customers. I drink and know people who smoke pot, so it's not that I'm judging a lifestyle. It's just I don't think it's a great image to portray. Maybe I'm getting old, I dunno. 2. I don't care if you are busy doing other things, if I walk in and am the only person standing there, acknowledge my existence! 3. The morning music is good. I may not necessarily like every song played, but it's ok as background. The afternoon crew needs to learn the art of subtle playlists. Some of the music they play is unlistenable to anyone but them. I see it written on other customers faces, too. My experience is to go in the morning when the "A" team keeps things on point. Eh. I don't really get the rave reviews for this place. I went in today to get an iced coffee, and I was really thrown off by the layout. It was cramped and odd, and not really cozy at all. The people seemed to be having a nice time, and the gentleman who served me was fairly nice, if perhaps a bit indifferent to my being there. And I have to agree with Greg B. on the menu thing. It's nice that they're trying to be different and artsy, but all I could see when looking from afar was a jumble of letters. Very tough to read. The coffee was enjoyable and I got a refill for $1, but just not really my cup of tea (or coffee, har har har). I guess I'll have to give it a second chance to try the food, because that seems to be their strong point. read more

B2 is a five star spot for me. From the bread to the cream cheese variety, everything is so delicious. I'm absolutely in love with the salmon cream cheese!!! The service is always consistent and fast. I wouldn't expect anything less. They have wifi, a decent sitting area, outside seating (limited) and they are vegan friendly. I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but I do love having those options which I'm probably more prone to go for if they are made well and with love. Thanks b2. I love B2 so, so much. Vegan options abound, from bagel sandwiches to smoothies and soft serve. The bagel sandwich combinations all look so good that I always end up standing in front of the board for an awkward couple of minutes trying to decide which one I want the most. I like the tomato/mozz/basil combo the best so far. Their coffee is strong and gives me LIFE. Oh, and there are always dogs and babies in here to up the natural cuteness factor that B2 already has going for it. I love this coffeeshop. The staff remembered me during my second visit and went out of the way to make sure my friend and I had exactly what we wanted. I have lived around the corner from B2 for several years and I am a frequent patron. The sandwiches and coffee are great, and the barristas have always been attentive and pleasant. My kids, 4 & 5, are always welcomed, humored by the barristas, and ask to come here whenever we are out walking. B2 is an excellent local business, it is staffed by friendly people, and is welcoming to everyone. highly recommend stopping by for a drink or a bite and seeing for yourself! read more

Another very cool find in the city of brotherly love! B2 sits directly across from the Pub on Passyunk along the up and coming East Passyunk Avenue in South Philly. B2 is definitely worth a visit, as they provide a very nice view to people watch, whether you decide to sit inside or out. The coffee is fresh, the sandwiches are good (brie, honey, apples, and walnuts on ciabatta anyone?), and the staff are friendly. I have yet to try any of their other coffee drinks or even the delicious looking baked goods that line the bar, but that only provides more incentive for me to return. read more

B2 has excellent coffee, good food, and a great atmosphere. Sometimes it's hard to come by a seat, but on nice days in warm months you can snag a little table outside on Passyunk and people watch while eating a bagel and sipping a delicious iced Chai (or some other delicious drink of your choice). They are cash only, which is sometimes an issue when I forget to bring a few dollars, but they have an ATM for just such a situation and their prices are pretty good. Their staff is also always really helpful and friendly, and the crowd there is usually pretty chill. I highly recommend B2 for an afternoon coffee break on your own or with friends. read more

Been several times as it is by my house and has big tables that are easy to work at. But, I am thinking of not going back. Its constantly very loud inside and the manager / owner is rude. Most of the other staff is nice, albeit one of them is constantly talking loud behind the counter and is just obnoxious. This would be my 3rd time in B2 and will be my last. I was there yesterday around 5. The first time I felt uncomfortable. I never really felt this place was friendly but the smoothies and muffins here are good. I walked in and ask to know what muffins were available. The employee (female) told me which were available and I told her what muffin I wanted. She asked if I want a bag and I said no, thank you. She walked over with the muffin in her hand and said there's no seats. She didn't say it in a rude tone she just seemed annoyed that I was planning to stay with the two year old I was with. I told her there's seats in the corner and that I would like a plate please. I paid her and she never gave me a plate. Without a plate I took the muffin to the corner window seats. She never returned with a plate and I just felt uncomfortable being there with the baby so I left. Like I said she wasn't down right rude but I just don't appreciate the fact that she said there was no seats when indeed there was 3 seats available (4 seats available if you count the 1 seat at the bar which an employee was sitting on) and that she didn't give me a plate at all. Chhaya on the other hand is wonderful and friendly period. If they didn't close at 3, that would be our spot for afternoon muffins. read more

Yep, this is a great spot - both for food and coffee, and as a meet-up or work space. I met with another remote co-worker and we spent most of the day there working and chatting. Coffee, tea, chocolate+peanut butter smoothie, freshly squeeze grapefruit juice, and I think some sort of a muffin or scone were all consumed throughout my hours there (I was super hungover, so I was thirsty and hungry for everything). Everything I had was top notch, especially given my fragile state. The staff made me feel at home - I was able to walk up to the counter and say, "I'm really hungover and I need something tremendously satisfying" and get a good recommendation! The wifi was free and worked without issue. The tables were big and there were plenty of outlets. I shall return. read more
