Baan Thai Bistro is a cute, revamped house with a vibey front patio on the South East side of Indy. I first visited this restaurant for take-out and the wait was a bit long (about 45 minutes on a Thursday around 6PM), but boy, was it worth it! The Pad Thai with Chicken was flavorful and had a more savory flavor than other Pad Thais I've had in the past. And the Spicy Drunken Noodles packed just the right punch as I got it Medium spicy and had the best veg to noodle to meat ratio. Don't get me started on the Mango Sticky Rice-- it is my favorite Thai dessert and this one was not too sweet and SO satisfying. Went here for the first time while visiting friends in Indy. There was a small wait of about 6-7 minutes even though they told us it could be 20 minutes. The place is small but beautiful! Loved all the décor. We ordered a couple green curries, drunken noodles, and pad Thai. The food came out after about 10-15 minutes. The portions were a good size. It all tasted great and the veggies in the dishes were fresh! The only warning I have is about the green curry: IT IS SPICY! It is labeled as spicy and the server said it was their "medium" level but for me it was a little much and I can usually handle my spice well. The drunken noodles we got were also ordered as a "medium" spice level but were less spicy than the green curry. I asked for some additional coconut milk which helped cut the spice level. I was very excited to try this place because of its excellent word of mouth, but unfortunately it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences i've ever had. Just for context, this is the ONLY restaurant i've ever walked out of before I got my food because of the awful service. My girlfriend and I arrived in the middle of the day when it wasn't busy at all (Only 2 other parties seated both had their food and were almost finished). We were seated by a tall young man with curly hair and we ordered our drinks and appetizer. About 15 minutes go by and we still hadn't received our drinks so we had to flag down our waiter to ask again and place our food order. After this point we remained seated for OVER AN HOUR (Reminder: it's not busy at all). During this time our waiter didn't look our direction or acknowledge us once when we both needed refills the entire time. Finally, when a party who was seated 30 minutes after us got their food right away it was clear to us that our waiter had forgotten to place our order so we decided to get up and leave. MUST TRY! FINALLY! Franklin Township has been waiting for Baan Thai Bistro to open up for a while now and it was worth the wait! It is located in Wanamaker in a restored older home. There is parking on the street or a parking lot in the back. The entrance is also in the back. We came on a Friday night around 6:00pm. The hostess said it would be an hour wait since we didn't make reservations. I asked how/where to make the reservations for next time and she said to call them. I didn't see anyone else waiting for a table so I decided to wait outside on the bench. It only took about 20 minutes before we receiving a text that our table was ready. Our server was very friendly. We started with the steamed dumplings, spring rolls, and chicken wings. All of them were delicious and we would order them again (see posted pictures). I got the basil stir-fry with crispy pork belly. SO GOOD! The pork belly was the showstopper in this meal. You get to choose your protein and heat level for this dish. For dessert we chose the elephant ear. It was delicious and reminded me of a toaster strudle in a way but without the filling in the middle. The only downside to this evening was the wait for the food. The restaurant did just open up and we did come during a busy day and peak time. My suggestion would be to come on a day that isn't Friday or Saturday and be prepared in case there is a wait for the food. This place is super cute. It's small, but definitely worth it. Keep an eye out otherwise you'll miss it! The server was very helpful. She explained that you can choose your spice level. She also let us know customer favorites. We got the crab rangoon dip and drunken noodles. The dip was warm and creamy. The wonton chips were good as well. Nice crunch. I've not had it deconstructed like that. Very clever. The drunken noodles were to die for. I picked 3/5 spice level. It was pretty spicy, but not so spicy it hid the flavor. My husband and I are so happy Baan Thai was finally able to open! We've been looking forward to having a new restaurant option nearby and love Thai food so we were anxiously awaiting the opening. He went to pick up lunch on their second official day and everything turned out great! The lunch special is a fantastic deal: $9 for a soup, spring roll, and entree. I'd never had thom yum soup before and loved it! The spring roll was amazing, as well as each of our entrees. I ordered Pad Seuw and my husband had Drunken Noodles, both with chicken. I thought the medium spice level was a bit mild, but that's probably a good thing for Wanamaker. ;) I'll go up to hot next time. We also got an order of summer rolls, which were fine, but not quite as good as some of our other local restaurants. The trio of sauces they came with were great though! The spring rolls will probably be a staple for us, and we can't wait to return to dine-in on the beautiful patio and try more dishes! read more

I placed a carryout order on a Friday evening at 5:43pm. And was told it would take about 30 mins. When I arrived around 6:30pm, I was told I still needed to wait 30 mins. They claimed the kitchen was behind. I finally got my food at 7:02pm. To say that this was frustrating is an understatement. The staff didn't seem to care about my frustration. They did try offering me coupons for a free appetizer, but I declined as I will not be back. Moral of the story- DON'T order carryout from this place! My friend and I had dinner last night for my birthday. Our waitress wasn't friendly nor very attentive. My soup was good but my pad Thai with peanut sauce had barely any sauce on it. When I asked for some to take home for my leftovers the waitress said that they'd already put everything up. I am a very frequent visitor to Baan Thai Bistro and love taking people there for their first time, especially for lunch. It is a hidden gem for Thai food on the southeast side of Indy. We love the Thai fried chicken rice bowl, spring rolls and crab ragoon dip. I would have originally given it 5 stars for the quick and reliable service. However, the customer service just depends on what time you go and the staff that is present. Also, the food hasn't been that spicy (still good though) lately and the adult beverage options are limited. They stop taking reservations at 4, but on a Saturday evening around 6:30, we were able to get seated within 20 minutes of arrival. The food was so fresh and the flavors phenomenal! Omg this is tha bomb... So it's a tiny unasuming house and yes I passed it by a couple of times until I finally found my way to it through a b ack alley. Once you know where it is at, it's no problem. There is pleanty of parking in the back, which is also where the entrance is. The place is absolutely adorable inside. Someone took great care to decorate this little house. When the weather is good, the garage door can be opened and the beautiful patio utilized. Too bad those kind of days are rare in Indiana. But I digress, let's get to the food. It is phenomenal. Starting with the presentation. Great care is taken to present each dish in it's best light. Visually pleasing in every way possible. The taste, spectacular. I was very happy with my choices as was everyone at my table, which is rare for my cohorts to ever agree on anything. We started with the spring roll and it came on a cute branded board along with 3 different dipping sauces. I was partial to the red one (forgot to ask what it wasunfortunately) it was delicious. The roll was filled with the freshest of ingredients, big and stuffed to the max. I ordered the Silver Noodle Salad or Yum Woon Sen, which came in a nice size terrine and was spruced up by the Romaine leaves and cucumbers sticking out the side. Tastewise absolutely delish. The fluffy spongelike things on top were identified as some sort of mushroom. Turns out those are not bad either. My Padd Thai with pork belly was presented with the slices of pork belly arranges along one side of the plate and looking very appetizing. The Padd Thai was spot on, not overly sweet as is so often the case, but nice and savory. The porkbelly wasn't fatty at all, just a little trace of fat here and there. It was deep fried with a nice little crust around it, yet the meat was still juicy. The only down side is that I wasn't informed of the $4 upcharge for the pork, but it was well worth it. Just would have liked to know upfront. While I didn't taste it myself, the steak lettuce wraps smelled delicious and came with a large bowl of steak, the lettuce leaves and a very cute container with sticky rice. Again, nicely done. My guest raved about the various curries and I must say it all smelled delicious. Spice level seem to be a bit higher than the average Thai restaurant, but I like my medium heat even so it made my nose run a bit (yeah I know that's gross) The portions are quite generous and we all needed containers to take the leftovers home. I live 5 minutes from Wanamaker. I have seen this restaurant coming together for, I want to say yeeeeears, so you can imagine my excitement when I finally started seeing reviews from customers in the community announcing it's grand opening! My husband and I, looking for a quick Wednesday night meal, decided to cruise on over and see if the food supported the hype. I'll be honest, I like Thai just fine...but it's more of a once a year kinda of experience for my tastebuds. That being said, I had already had it twice in the last 2 months...and my last experience (with Siam Square in Fountain Square) was not a pleasant one. You can read the reviews but let's just say, I prefer my Pad Thai WITHOUT every single piece of eggshell. But I am always up for something new, and as I said, I'd been chomping at the bit...so off we went. They have a parking lot for quite a few patrons behind the building, so that was a pleasant surprise. They also had a very nice ramp for handicapped customers so that was also a perk. We walked in to a beautiful, classy, but rather small restaurant smack dab in Wanamaker. The weather was beautiful so we found a seat on the patio under the pergola. The only *sorta* complaint that I can muster is that as a plant person it always takes away from the ambiance if I feel like the plant decor isn't up to par, lol. The vibrant purple inch plants were healthy and full, but they had a couple plants that were more scraggly than beautiful. Luckily we weren't sat at a table right under that! I don't know, it's a silly pet peeve of mine I guess. If you aren't willing to commit to keeping the plants groomed & attractive? Then go a different route. We were immediately brought a carafe of cold ice water & 2 glasses. We ordered the steak wraps as an appetizer and they were yummy scrumptious! Look at all that bold purple onion & fresh cilantro! Yum! Next came my chicken Pad Thai. I ordered it medium. I'm not a fan of spice, but I don't want to dumb it down so there is no flavor at all of course! This was a perfect balance! And what do ya know? No eggshells The check was delivered and you had the option of using apple pay and scanning a QR code, which I am always a big fan of. When I'm done, I'm ready to leave...and I appreciate the efficiency of a business that accommodates that. All in all we were back home with full bellies in less than an hour, and my husband has leftovers to reminisce with for lunch again today. Great job Baan Thai Bistro! Compares favorably to the best-regarded restaurants on Mass Ave. Currently, there is no sign in front of the restaurant, so you'll need to navigate by address. Do not let the lack of sign deter you. Park behind the houses and enter through the back door. Chicken Satay - 5/5 Excellently grilled chicken, rubbed in curry powder, with a savory peanut sauce. Delicious. Red Curry Fishcake - 5/5 Soft fish cake coated in red curry. Not exactly a common menu item. Don't be afraid! Sweet. Soft. Mildly spicy. Son in Law Eggs - 5/5 A rare item as far as Thai restaurant menus go. Soft boiled (but not runny) eggs seasoned and lightly fried. Simple and delcious. Boat Noodles - 4/5 A heaping bowl of noodles topped with bean sprouts. Served with fresh basil. Pho-like. Very mild. Curried Fish 4/5 - Soft fish with a gentle curry sauce. We did ask for this one hot, but it was "midwestern" hot, or what I'd consider mild. Could have done with a lot more spice, but the texture of the fish went a long way. Elephant Ear 5/5 - Wow. I ordered the drunken noodles dish. It was supposed to be spicy, but was not spicy at all. It was actually sweet. Also, the noodles were very mushy and soft, and no flavor. It's the first time I had this dish, maybe that's what the noodles are supposed to be like. I got the lunch special which was reasonably priced although the quantity of the main dish was somewhat less than I expected, and the spring roll and soup were small. I have been waiting for months for this place to open near my family and I can say it was with the wait! We came for lunch on a Saturday. I had a reservation for 1 pm, but really didn't need it. The restaurant is so cute! Nice, fun simple but modern decor. We ordered, spring rolls, Tom yum soup, and fried tofu as appetizers. I also got the Thai iced tea. The spring rolls were really good and the Tom Yum soup is one of the best I have had in a long time - so flavorful and rich- delicious. I didn't love the tofu - it wasn't bad, just okay. For entrees we ordered a pad Thai, a stir fry with pineapple and lychee and a spicy basil stir fry. I had never had the spicy basil stir fry before but it was excellent. Pad Thai was good too, but could have used a little more vegetables, delicious nonetheless. I didn't love the lychee stir fry - was a little too sweet for me and my family but I'm glad we tried it. Service took a little bit, but i think that's because everyone is new. The two kids working were definitely running around trying to answer questions. This restaurant was on my radar for a while and I finally tried it yesterday. I was so glad I tried because everything we ordered was very yummy! Summer roll came with generous three kinds of sauce which was very good. Spring rolls were tasty. My fried ordered pork belly and I ordered pan fried fish. Since it was my friend's birthday we ordered the elephant ear as well. They were all very good. The presentation of dishes were nice and service was good, too. We were the first customers for the dinner but soon after the restaurant was packed. I think people already know they serve good food. I will definitely go back. read more

The dish was packed with fresh veggies, perfectly cooked chicken, and jasmine rice. The cashews added a great crunch and balanced out the spice nicely. Portion size was quite generous. Best Thai food I've ever eaten hands down! My favorite is the Thai fried chicken and rice bowl (mild or medium, never more than medium!). I'd heard this place was good but never truly believed it until my wife and I tried it ourselves. We love it! We live a mile away so we've probably ate Baan Thai about 10 times or more now since moving to the area in November last year. The staff is super friendly. Every time we visit Indianapolis, this is a must stop for us! This restaurant is in a quiet suburb outside of Indianapolis, so it's super easy to find parking right behind the restaurant in the parking lot. The restaurant is chic and cozy, and if you plan on coming on the weekend you better have a reservation or plan to take out or have it delivered. They are busy for a reason! This is hands-down the best Thai food I have ever had. This is a family owned and run restaurant using family recipes passed down to each generation. The whole concept of the restaurant is that you feel like you've been welcomed into their home for dinner. Staff is super nice and accommodating. Even though I am not super adventurous with what I eat, I have literally picked a different thing off the menu each time, and it has been delicious. The layers of flavors are subtle but dance nicely together in each bite. If you have never tried Thai before, get the Thai fried chicken and rice bowl, pineapple fried rice, or drunken noodles. If you have tried Thai before, definitely check out their curries, the chili and oil Ramen, the baby back ribs, or one of their other signature dishes. One of my favorite appetizers is the son-in-law eggs; that tamarind sauce hits! Their can't miss appetizer is the Crab Rangoon Dip. You get deep-fried wontons to act as chips and dip into a nice hot pan of crab Rangoon filling! It's amazing. Also, I don't think I'm allowed to go here anymore unless I bring home at least two orders of the house-made beef jerky. It is tender, melts in your mouth, just incredible flavor and texture. Applaud this amazing and chic restaurant!!!! Wonderful to have a new place in town with "off-the-charts" food. I live right down the street so I have ordered from here on several occasions. Never dining in I can't elaborate as to the service per se; but for take-out they haven't disappointed me yet! In the past I tweaked my order a tad because I personally do not like cashews or peanuts in my meal. I have tried several of the appetizers, and ordered the same Thai dish both times. I highly recommend trying this place so you can decide the comparison of other Thai restaurants. We made a reservation, which was smart, as they looked to have gotten slammed shortly after being seated. Now, on to food... We got wings for appetizers with siracha garlic sauce....some of the best wings I have ever had We got green curry, red curry, Krapow beef and Pad See Ew.
