I love coffee. The saddest part of my day is right after my last sip of joe. The latte I had at Baba's was fantastic, but even more fantastic was the customer service. I appreciated their patience with me as I asked questions (my fiest time there) debated in my own mind what to order, and manage 2 small children. The hubby and I didn't really come here until the stay home act started and now we go a few times a week and buy our beans from them. Their coffee is amazing! Baba is one of the only coffee spots in the village that has remained open during these weird times and has definitely got us through some days. If you want EXTREMELY overpriced everything then this coffee shop is for you. I am a coffee shop queen, I go all over SD, LA, OC to different coffee shops and the drinks are more expensive here then all the cute hipster coffee shops in LA and OC. They wanted $8 for a dirty matcha latte! A bagel with cream cheese and avocado was $9.05!!! So insane, not worth the prices at all. Definitely will never go back here. Had an OK experience at Baba coffee yesterday. We ordered a drip coffee, latte, Granola Bowl $7 and Avocado Toast $7. I can understand when coffee is served in paper cups (even when you're dining in) but the way they served the food was odd. The granola bowl was served in plastic bowl used for to-go soup at a restaurant. Whatever, not a big deal. What was concerning was that this item contained a small scoop of yogurt with a mix of fresh and dried strawberries and bananas. Combine the dried fruit with what seemed like old chewy granola and you've got a dish that makes your jaw sore from chewing. The avocado toast was much better. The thinly sliced avocado was fresh and perfectly seasoned with olive oil, salt and pepper. The wheat bread was either old or overly toasted. Something was off. When it was time to go, there were no trash cans in sight. Just a dish tub with a sign that read "dirty dishes here". We proceeded to place our disposable plate and bowl in this tub because we weren't sure what else to do and both of the girls working were in the kitchen. Overall, an average experience. This coffee shop has the best beer selection of any coffee shop I've ever been to. You read that right; get your buzz and then get a buzz. In whatever order floats your boat. For realsies though, they have good coffee, as I'm told by my wife because I don't drink coffee. Coffee is gross. Chai lattes are delicious, and I can attest that Baba has a delightful one. There are other teas as well. I haven't had them because I drink chai lattes, but based on the quality of the chai latte, the other teas are likely good. They also have an assortment of breakfast foods and pastries from Pannikin and VG Donuts. There are one or two menu items that are suitable for an afternoon snack as well but I have yet to try them. Again, I wasn't kidding about the beer. Peruse the case farthest from the front door as there are some rotating visitors who don't always make an appearance on the menu on the back wall. And of course they have Baba Black Lager from Uinta at all times, because Baba carrying Baba makes the universe be in harmony. Parking is street parking, but always widely available. Prices are in-line with other local coffee shops and your major chains, so that should just about eliminate any other excuse you could come up with not to go here. Unless you want outdoor seating and a dog-friendly establishment. Just kidding, they have/are those things. Plus their staff is nice. And their decor is nice. I drove all the way from North Orange County to meet up with some friends. The space is beautiful - looks out onto the street, blankets when and if it does get cold, geometric tile designs, and wirey copper lamps hanging from the ceiling. They have a standard menu with some fun options. I got the vegan coconut almond cold brew that was just sweet enough. They make their coffees using Pannakin, a local roaster. They have some baked goods, a sandwich or two, and bagels for sale too. I looked up Baba, who was indeed at 16th century Sufi coffee plant smuggler. Initially the name wasn't quite appealing - it's not super cute. But now, I love the name and history of it! read more

They're steeped for 14 hours in cold water, resulting in a ready to drink brew. Each batch is made in small quantity, so every day customers are drinking the freshest cold brew possible. ** One of the most common complaints I hear from people who first drink cold brew is that its too "strong". This one, however, is perfect. Because its never diluted, all the flavors from the various beans some out - I tasted a yummy chocolate flavor with a buttery aftertaste that made me smile. ** The only thing I would recommend is drinking it neat, or with light ice. Morning latte and pumpkin muffin were excellent- I'm picky about my coffee and I was not disappointed. the muffin was delish and they had a large selection of other treats and cakes the size of your face. Amazing. Service was great, very friendly staff. People watching was PRIME because of the winery next door. It's open air, SUPER dog friendly, inside and out. Even have treats with the sugar and the straws. The location is great, right next to Carruth Cellars (review to follow). And Campfire (review to follow). Which made it an awesome spot for my P.O.C and I to stop by later and get a beer while waiting for our table at campfire. The waitress was great at recommending a beer to try for my friend and I, she was knowledgeable and friendly. I also had the opportunity to meet the owner, rob pastor. I explained to him that I had been there twice in one day and was pretty impressed. We talked for a while, very sincere, genuine guy. My husband, toddler, and I went here for my birthday today and had the best experience! I was hesitant because some reviews are low but I have no idea what those people are talking about. Our lox bagel and avocado toast were delicious, coffees were nice and hot, and the service was excellent. The barista even washed our daughters personal plate for us. Since moving to Carlsbad over six years ago we have gone to Baba's. We make every effort to use local businesses rather than chain businesses. Baba's makes it increasingly harder each time to come back. We understand their high prices, but folks insist on bringing their large dogs inside even though there is plenty of seating outside and a sign on the front door stating No Pets! I enjoy dogs but having one sniffing my my ankles and worrying if the dog will relieve themselves on me or the floor, is extremely rude and thoughtless. The staff WILL not address the issue because it's No Worries, and it's not my place to tell someone their dog needs to be outside. If this were a rare occurrence I would say no worries but it's the norm and it prevents folks from just sitting inside and having a conversation. Many other places to go in the village but we have always enjoyed Baba's. It's time to move on. read more

Cool place, has potential but needs to work out major staff kinks. Kinda pricey. I ordered a chai tea latte, acai bowl, and apple fritter. $18 including 15% tip I regret giving. The latte came out right away and tasted great. Would come here again just for that. That was the only good thing. After waiting 20+ minutes for the acai bowl I asked the staff about it. It was done but nobody had checked the kitchen for it. The woman behind the counter blamed it on the kitchen when it was obvious it had been done for awhile. It tasted okay but nothing special. I then asked about the apple fritter. They had sold out in the past 20 minutes! The woman scolded the person now working the cash register for not giving me the donut when I ordered it, forgettig that she was the one who rang me up. The woman then proceeded to tell me they never had apple fritters today, even though she was the one who pointed them out to me. I asked for a refund and the woman told the cashier "just give him $2." I asked her to check how much the apple fritter cost: $3.19 with tax. Heard several other customers complain and ask for refunds too. read more

This one was another coincidental find after the original cafe I wanted to try with a friend was closed for construction. It was but a few miles away and offered a very calm, quiet vibe matching the expectation anyone would have for your typical cafe by the sea. It was a gloomy Tuesday afternoon in May, so that could explain the lack of liveliness that day, but it surely didn't take away from the quaint personality the cafe held in store. The barista was kind and very knowledgeable in the drinks they offered. I ordered a green tea latte similar to a matcha green tea without the herbs with steeped almond milk, but I found it to be much more watered down than expected. The pricing is decent, though I think they charged a little extra for the acas bowl even if there didn't seem to be anything different to separate it from your go-to juice bar in California. Overall, it was a nice experience, but if I were ever in the area again, I wouldn't mind trying all the other cafes by the sea with their own unique personalities and specialized drinks.However, an aspect that I found to be very unique though was the accommodations of blankets at every table and card games/sand sketching available to customers while waiting or dining. read more

Visited the lovely Baba Coffee this afternoon. The atmosphere alone is enough to make me want to bring my laptop and stay all day. A little further up the street, away from the tourists and beach crowd this fresh spot is a welcomed spot for locals. Carlsbad needed something like this for awhile. Baba clearly supports local vendors and food artisans, featuring Prager Brothers bread (a personal obsession), VGs donuts, Pannikin coffee, pastries,and desserts (their cakes are beautiful and classic), and many other treats found at the weekly farmers markets. Basically, it's the perfect hub of all things good in North County! As a side note for the dairy-free, they serve organic almond milk. For my gluten-free/sensitive friends, the Prager brothers bread is prepared the traditional way, the grains have been properly fermented so the gluten content is very low and in a digestible state. Give it a try! I hadn't eaten bread in 7 years because of an intolerance to gluten. Now have it every day and feel incredible on it. I'm so excited to see it making it's way into local shops now too! Lastly, it's located in an up and coming culinary spot. Connected to a cellar and the up and coming Campfire restaurant. This is the place to be. read more

Wanted to try this place out since the views are high but my experience wasn't great. I am a cold brew connasoqier and like to try different cold brews. I ordered two cold brews. The praline goddess and Carmel macadamia was watered down with too much ice and coffee taste burnt. I tried both drinks but couldn't tell the difference between the two. The girl that made our drinks seem like she was new and didn't know what she was doing. Not worth the price for the quality. read more

I'm happy there is a coffee shop like Baba in the Village (and within walking distance to my apartment). Everything is surprisingly good (I say "surprising" because I've been disappointed by places with pretty exteriors and boring coffee-- not the case with Baba). My go to is the vanilla latte, and it's well balanced, flavorful without overpowering the espresso. I love the appropriately priced Baba beer and espresso deal-- works for your beer-inclined friends. Just tried the food for the first time this week. The Breakfast Sandwich is interesting-- the combination of cream cheese and egg is... I don't know, I felt like the only person in the world who raised an eyebrow at it, but it was OK. I just can't bring myself to pay $7 for avocado on toast, so I will explore other food items later! Customer service is awesome here. The owners are beyond nice and remember us now. Same with the rest of the team. read more

This is a great find for Carlsbad. It's a coffee shop off the main strip with open air seating that is great for studying or for a quick snack/ coffee. I've been here twice now for studying and I've gotten either an espresso or americano plus an acai bowl. The espresso and americano are both very good and not sour. I do wish that their coffee was served in a ceramic/ glass cup instead of a paper cup when it is ordered for here. The espresso came in a demitasse so props for that but no sparkling water included like the fancier coffee shops. The acai bowl was tasty. The owner told me how they use two blocks of acai instead of 1 like other shops. I never knew acai came in blocks but it makes sense that's why the bowls always come in a smoothie consistency and you can't eat the berries fresh. Anyways the acai was good but I do wish they used fresh blueberries instead of frozen blueberries. Plus some added fresh strawberries would give it a nice touch of color. Overall great place to grab and seat and study or meet up with friends for a coffee. Come check it out! read more

The vibe here is great - we have had many meetings here and just hang out. They have lavender syrup which is amazing and rare to find! The food selection in the glass case is only breads which seems odd for a location like this not to have any other options like a cheese or veggie plate. They do offer avocado toast, acai bowl and oatmeal but this is not a place for someone on keto to enjoy. The glass case could use shelves to showcase the food better as its tall enough for adding height inside. Suggestion: offer more snacky type food options and not just pastries. read more
