The ambiance was great, the baba (lobster) rangoon and the "fancy maki" were both very good. Our server was friendly but took a long time to come over, then a long time to bring the drinks. The food came quickly but we waited a while with empty plates and glasses before she brought our check. It was not busy. The other rolls we ordered were incredibly bland - holiday maki, unagi avocado, spicy tuna, and spicy yellowtail. I'm not sure how they can put so many different things in their "holiday maki" special roll and have it come out with no flavor whatsoever, but they did! read more

This was one of the worse experiences I've ever had at a resteraunt. I've been here dozens of times and make sure I always come on my birthday. Never again! We had a reservation at 7pm, We were 2 hours in before we even recieved utencils. After missing drinks, frozen steaks, inattentive waitstaff, ordering drinks only to be told a half hour later that we wouldnt be receiving our drinks because they didnt have the glasses to spare, we HAD to speak with the manager...she disnt seem.to care and claimed that she couldn't communicate with the kitchen because they all spoke manderine!!! This place is great! I grew up in the area but have lived in LA & NYC since. I travel a lot to Asia, and have a lot of hot pot experience. This was more fusiony than one region or another but it was great! And mostly it was a lot of fun with my family. The sushi was also very good. read more

I placed my order early in the day for a 7:00 pm delivery. After two phone calls when my order still had not been delivered, they admitted (at 8:00 pm) that my order has just been prepared. Our food was delivered at 8:30 pm. They said that they would give me a gift card for compensation. Food came, no gift card!! Don't waste your time. read more

I have been coming to Baba for over 3 years and I always have give them rave reviews but this time I have to say I extremely unimpressed. The service was unbelievably slow in which it took10-15 for the waitress, who is also the bartender, to notice us and take out order than once out main order was in it was almost 45 mins until the food came out. I am hoping that this was a one off and I look forward to trying them again, hopefully not for the last time. read more

Very basic food. Our potstickers were definitely from the freezer. Our sushi was mostly flavorless and boring. The tea was made from real leaves though, so that's something. Maybe on a different night the chef steps up the flavor, but for this price, I definitely expect more. The cucumber roll (kappa maki) was falling apart. My wife said the food was so boring she didn't bother finishing her plate. I've gone to all-you-can-eat sushi bars who serve better sushi at a lower price. Maybe this is the best Sturbridge can do, but I'm not impressed with this visit. I'll try the hot pot side and see if that's better. read more

This place is great- from the parking to the menu to the staff and the choices and selection etc. The rolls were amazing, all the fish was delicious. I am a rather large sushi snob and every time I stray from my favorites I always regret it and am left wanting another meal an hour later. We elected to sit outside and listened to a couple who had asked to speak with the manager complaining about the large amounts of cigarette smoke that was wafting over from behind a wall. The manager assured them that it would never happen again and they headed out. Five minutes later more cigarette smoke and another couple asked to take their food to go instead of eat outside. We waited an hour and a half before asking to move inside, at this point it had become quite cold outside and we were tired of the smoke. We have only been there twice. The selection of different sushi rolls is bigger than the town rival, the size of the rolls are bigger also but you don't get as many and little bit more money.. I love the hot pot can't go wrong with it.pick your broth and your meat package or make your own and enjoy cooking it with good times. The servers are knowledgeable now, compared to at first. My husband and I went here for lunch on a Tuesday. This was our first time here. We really like Baba in Worcester so we figured it should be good. We were greeted by Anthony who was the host, waiter, and bartender. He was very nice. We ordered miso soup(average), gyoza (average, seemed deep fried not pan fried), and sushi. We love sushi. Our sushi arrived, the plate looked beautiful, nice looking rolls and flowers for garnish. Then we noticed there wasn't any ginger or wasabi on the plate. This is pretty standard at any sushi restaurant. Well, we looked for Anthony and he was nowhere to be found. Finally, he came back. We asked him for the ginger and wasabi and he gave us an excuse that the chef was new. Really? The sushi was average as well. The icing on the cake was the open air kitchen where we saw one of the cooks spit into (we hope) a trashbasket. Um, we can see you, hello! The restaurant looks nice and seemed clean. Not sure we will give it a second chance as our favorite place Kaizen is a block away.... read more

The Sushi was borderline grocery store quality, and small portions. The scorpion bowl had little to no alcohol in it, and the crab rangoons had no filling in them. Even the Asian stir fry was very disappointing as it lacked any flavor and hardly had any chicken in it. This was a very disappointing visit for a very expensive meal. Upon arriving at this place on a super rainy Friday night, valet told me that I'd either have to do valet or park it somewhere myself. However, a friendlier valet told my friend that he could just park right across the valet booth. Thus, this experience (although unrelated to the food) has tainted part of my experience already. Next, the service was SUPER SLOW. I've never had hotpot take over half an hour. Hot pot everywhere else is fast and efficient. It took so long that our 4 sushi rolls and hand roll came out faster than the hotpot. However, our waiter was nice, the food was fresh, the atmosphere was cool, and the hotpot portions were large and reasonably priced. The sushi was definitely of higher quality than I would've expected for the location. We got the salmon avocado, sweet potato roll, avocado roll, and torch maki. I loved the torch maki because I love anything that is seared. It has seared spicy tuna topped with black caviar, and the chef's special sauce. I could not get enough of it! Now, onto the hotpot. The tomyum broth tasted as expected (a spicy lemongrass flavor) but the lime that was added to it made the soup bitter towards the end. I would not recommend the soup for this reason, or if you do get it then take out the lime before the skin starts to absorb into the soup too much. The vegetarian options were great! There was a $12 vegetarian combination that filled our friend up. It included cabbage, enoki, corn, bok choy, mushrooms, carrots, taro, and tomatoes. My boyfriend and I got the tofu skin, angus sirloin, prime short rib, cabbage, and mushroom platter. The mushroom platter consisted of enoki, wood ear mushrooms, button mushrooms, king trumpet mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms. Every single vegetable and meat we ate were fresh and delicious. The meat's presentation and cut was impressive. Specifically, the short rib was sliced thinly and laid out perfectly on a wooden tray. We ended up paying more than we usually do for hotpot, but in the end it was well worth it for quality food. The food experience made up for the beginning and I'm assuming the hotpot took longer than usual because it was made fresh. I would definitely come back again if I'm around the area! read more

disappointed last night, went out for my husbands B Day. made a reservation. When we sat down we noticed the table was sticky and not washed from last person. We mentioned it when the waitress came over. In this time of covid you would think this wouldn't happen as they are suppose to sanitize between customers. Our drink order was taken and no came by to clean the table. We had to ask again, so after appx. 10-5 minutes later it was finally cleaned. By now we were irritated. Well let me start by saying that I globally traveled for work and have had Sushi from Coast to coast and North to south including Hawai'i and NOTHING is better than the Sushi at Baba in Sturbridge MA.!! The Sashimi is fresh and perfectly cut and the Maki rolls are the best anywhere! What makes the rolls a cut above the rest, the sauces!! The chefs here create the most incredible sauces I have ever had. Also their presentation is top of the heap! The Green Fire and the Surf and Turf rolls are 2 of my many favorites! The Hamachi Kama, which is the jaw of the yellowtail and is served double baked is killer! Last visit it took nearly an hour before any sushi appeared, a wait I mostly forgave because I'd had the exceptional vegetable fried rice, not greasy and not to be missed! We both liked our meals at Baba, but places with an average of 4.5 stars wow me more than this one did. We had the hot pot and I got a tiger eye maki. There was no discussion of cross contamination and it's easy to imagine someone dipping their chicken in the marinade before and after cooking it. The herbal broth was tasty but I've been to shabu places that I enjoyed much more. The tiger eye maki had so much gloppy sauce on it that it was hard to taste the fish & that was disappointing. Although Baba had a higher average rating here than their nearby competitor, I found myself wishing that I had gone there. But we had a good meal, we went home full, I'd be glad to go back, and there's no way to give it 3.5 stars so I'll put it down as a four star experience. read more

I have been here a handful of times. Like tonight! A great experience in every way. Excellent hostess, waiter, fresh food that made a great meal! I usually order sushi unless I have a party of 4 or more and then it's sushi and hot pot. My kids 6 and 8 years old devoured every piece of raw fish, seaweed and fish eggs they could. I understand some ppl might have had a not so great experience, they just opened, nobody is perfect, they are straightening the kinks out.
