This place has been on my list forever, so glad I finally got the chance to go. Parking is tricky in this neighborhood, so plan ahead. They made sure we didn't exceed our 90 minute reservation allotment, so you wouldn't want to be late. The place is cute right when you walk up. I was there with a group of eight and our table was ready when we arrived. They started us with a butterscotch black tea right away while we got settled and waited for everyone. The food was a lot and no one left hungry. My favorite were the cucumber sandwiches and the beignets. The beignets were the bomb! They offered both gluten-free and vegetarian items. I loved that we could try as many teas as we wanted and they never let us run out. In addition to the black tea, we got the chocolate chai (it was a bit spicy for me), China rose petal, coconut custard roobios (described as a favorite by our server), and the powerhouse (another one described as a favorite). A couple of us really wanted to try the Hawaiian colada, but they were out. They had cute accessories like the honey container and the tea timer. We still had food left after our 90 minutes, so they gave us boxes to take it home. They weren't able to split checks for us, but did say they could run multiple credit cards. My friends and I had a wonderful time here. Our waitress (can't remember her name, sorry!) was exceptional! She was so prepared, polite, and patient. We really appreciated how hard she was working during their busiest weekend hours! $35 for unlimited tea choices, your classic finger sandwiches, petit fours, marcarons, and biscuits all within a reasonable time frame. I was very impressed with their tea selection and the accuracy of descriptions for each. It can be very overwhelming if it's your first time, however they made the tea experience fun and approachable. Before walking around Commons Park, my friend and stopped by Babe's Tea Room for coffee/tea. I'm such a Yelper that it gives me anxiety NOT to look somewhere up on Yelp before visiting, so this was a leap of faith. Babe's didn't disappoint with its cute décor and dainty tea sandwiches in the window! Alas, I didn't get any food and stuck with my delicious latte. We sat outside for a bit before our walk. I would have liked to hang out inside except for COVID. Now that I'm reading other reviews, we JUST experienced the tip of the iceberg when it comes to services at Babe's. Tea time sounds so cute!! Oh, yes. I'm about this. We stopped by as an extra Easter treat and it was well worth it. Its a cute shop on Platte so just know you'll be driving around for parking. It wasn't super clear when we arrived what we should do. Hot tip: go up to the counter to get your seat. Once seated the experience was fantastic. Our waitress was on top of it, checking in every 30 minutes or so. The scone was AMAZING - our friends had raves about the cream in advance and it did not disappoint! The tea selection was also outstanding, though I wish they'd include a little tea pairing or guidance on what to chose for the treat. UPDATE: I recently went to the Brown Palace for Tea and NIGHT AND DAY experience. I would chose Babes over Brown Palace any day. The ability to try more teas and a more interactive experience wins over Brown Palace. ALSO Babes tea uses real cream for the tea and Brown placed had like 1% milk. I am so close to giving this place a 5 star. I will be back! Place is cute. It was pretty hot inside. Tea selection was great. The scone/biscuit was good. Tea sandwiches were mediocre. The lavender macaroon was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Like so so gross. All 4 of us were like how could anyone like that!?!? The one thing that irked me is we wanted to try a bunch of teas. My friends and I were elated to go to holiday tea at Babe's Tea Room. We booked this experience weeks in advance and were looking forward to trying something new after previously going to holiday tea at The Brown Palace. I had previously been to Babe's Tea Room for afternoon tea twice and thoroughly enjoyed my experience! We arrived at 3pm for our reservation and were seated late. We did not get seated until 3:22. We had multiple servers coming up to us with the same introductions, indicating that the staff wasn't communicating effectively. We waited ten minutes before putting in an official order. We enjoyed the first two teas that we ordered, but had asked for cream to go with it. When we received our tea sandwiches, we were missing the cucumber and cream cheese variety as well as the Devonshire cream, lemon curd, and jam for our scones. It took at least ten minutes and three attempts to flag down a server in order to remind them about our creamer, explain the error, and order more tea. As the experience is advertised by unlimited tea tastings, we were disappointed at the lack of timeliness, especially because our other teas were taken away in the interim. We empathized with the fact that multiple larger parties were in the tea room, however, we felt like we couldn't enjoy the experience without everything advertised in the set price of holiday tea. Additionally, a white tea that we ordered towards the end of the experience was filled with debris and unpleasant despite putting it through the tea strainer. The temperature of the tea room itself was also extremely warm and we quickly became uncomfortable. When booking the tea, we were aware that our time slot was for 1.5 hours. After struggling throughout the entire tea experience, we were prematurely given our bill and boxes at 4:05pm. This was disappointing, considering that we had received sub par service and were sat late at 3:22pm. By our calculations, we should've had until at least 4:52pm. That being said, we accepted the bill without mentioning this. A few moments later, one of the servers came back to apologize, saying she got us mixed up with another party and that we would have thirty more minutes. After continuing our conversations, a few minutes later, another employee came up to us attempting to get us out. She picked up our to go boxes and passively stated that there was nothing in them. My friend mentioned that we had received late service and that we were told we had more time. Disturbingly, the woman (with whom we had no contact with during the entire experience) kept cutting us off when we were trying to explain the situation. She continually kept trying to refer to her iPad to prove us wrong. Finally, the other server told her that she allowed us to have more time for the reservation. Despite this, the woman continued to argue and be confrontational, making us extremely uncomfortable. It was saddening to have this experience, as it was one of our main holiday activities and our conversations kept getting interrupted. We felt anxious and apprehensive the entire experience. Instead of apologizing for the misunderstanding, we were met with hostility and will most likely never return. We ended up paying at 4:37pm, just slightly over one hour of tea time. All three of us have worked in the restaurant business and are now nurses. We understand this is an extremely busy time and would never want to be an inconvenience to any restaurant staff. We are mostly disappointed for the way this was handled. Additionally, there should be buffer time in between reservations to avoid rushing parties out who have paid money to have a joyful holiday experience. Not to mention it was extremely hot when I was there...so much so that I had to step out a few times to get some cool air. I'm glad we were able to switch our teas as often as we liked but the atmosphere kind of ruined the experience. I was hoping for a more elegant feel and for our waiter to provide recommendations and so forth but instead it was like 3 individuals running around in the hot establishment sweating. I threw a baby shower here for one of my girlfriends and overall it was a good experience! The tea was delicious, some of the sandwiches were a little dry but for the most part it was all pretty good. I didn't get to really explore the tea menu because of the time restriction. They give you 1 hour and 30 minutes. I believe we spent around $800 here so it sucks that you have to really pay attention to the time because they will kick you out right at the hour thirty mark. They definitely let you know ahead of time and with the reservation that this will happen but I just think it took some the the charm away. We love walking around downtown Denver and came across this cute little tea cafe. Finally made reservations online for outdoor seating on a sunny day. Note: they do ask for a credit card when you book a reservation online to demonstrate your commitment to visit. They have a couple outdoor tables but indoor is super cute and cozy as well. There's also a little outdoor adventures store just up the street from it called Wilderness Exchange that has some good deals. Snack review: It did not disappoint! -Beef with horseradish spread were our favorite! -Curry chicken sandwich, cucumber sandwich favorable as well! -Scone was a bit filling but so satisfying with the strawberry jam and lemon creme spread. -Dessert tray on top: lemon macaroon was heavenly! My partner and I came in today, and were so excited to have holiday tea. This is a yearly tradition we like to do together to celebrate, and our experiences in the past with Babes Tea Room have been lovely! Unfortunately, our experience this afternoon was second-rate. After we were greeted, we were told our table was in the corner against the window and to seat ourselves. Our server then came up and introduced herself. She was unfriendly, awkward, and almost mechanical with her spiel (which we heard word for word with the same lackluster tone at another table - so at least we weren't alone in our experience). After that we picked our teas, to which our server was actually a help in describing certain ones we had questions about. She brought our teas and my partner and I continued conversation until our tea tower with sandwiches, scones, and treats arrived. When it did, our server rushed through it, giving little to no explanation of what each item was. After, she asked if we wanted another round of tea, to which we said yes, but I clearly still had 1/2 of my current pot left and was still enjoying. She started to take my pot, but I kindly said I would like to continue drinking this tea. She said "well you let me know when you're ready for your next one then" in a rude manor, to which I told her I was ready for the next one at that moment (while I finished my current one). She insisted that I topped off my current cup of tea and then took my pot (that I was still enjoying). I understand that when you are busy, you may be short on teapots and may have a rule that you can only have one at a time. It's annoying, but I get that. But when there are only 2 tables of people in your establishment, why can I not finish my current pot while you are making me a new one... Anyways, when she came with the next pot(s) for my partner and me she set them down and hurried away before we could ask for more cream or anything else we may need. My partner tried to kindly flag her down a couple of times, but it wasn't until I made unavoidable eye contact with her that she came over. We asked her for more cream, and then quickly drank our current tea so we could ask for another pot since we didn't know when she would be coming back next. When we asked for our next round of tea, she took our current pots (which still had a decent amount of tea in them) and brought us our new pots. Again, before we had time to ask for anything else, she hurried away. I understand people can be annoying/needy, but had she stayed for 30 seconds longer at any of these given times, we could've asked for everything we needed at one time so that she wouldn't have to make multiple trips. We waited a solid 10 minutes trying to get her attention for more jam and clotted cream, because the majority of the items on our tower had a lovely flavor, but were super dry. We then that we saw her talk to what I can only assume was the manager, then disappear into the back for a break. I get the need for the break, and I'm not saying she shouldn't have taken it, but it would've been kind/responsible of her to check on any of her tables before doing so (to ensure that we had what we needed and were in a good place before she stepped away for a little). I ended up walking to the counter and waited hoping she would come back. I was then greeted by the manager and asked if I needed something. I kindly asked for clotted cream and jam. She told me in unfriendly manner to sit down and she'd bring it. When she delivered it she was more pleasant, but a bit annoyed. The manager then asked if we wanted another round of tea, to which I said I was still enjoying mine, but my partner wanted their own pot of the same tea that I currently was drinking. My pot was still half full, but she tried to take both of ours away. I kindly told her that I was still drinking that tea and that my partner was the only one that wanted more tea. She rudely said she knew and she was just going to refill the one I already had since they are good to be refilled 3 times. I really didn't want my teapot refilled because it was just the right amount for me and the right temperature for me to drink. My partner just wanted one of their own, but we ultimately gave up and let her take it. After that we saw our server re-appear, but she didn't take the time to come and check on us until about 10 minutes after she got back. When she finally did come over she asked if we needed anything else and we said a box and a check. She came over right away and was trying to be all "buddy, buddy" with us asking how our experience was. My partner told her it was just alright, to which she laughed. Overall it was disappointing. Terrible service, unfriendly people, dry sandwiches and scones (the sugar cookie macaron was really good though), and just an unpleasant experience. This is my second review of Babes and specifically pertains to dining outside in the winter. I had originally scheduled tea to be indoors months ago but went to move our holiday tea last month to include my mom. When I called to make sure there were heaters outdoors I was assured there would be along with blankets. When we arrived however there weren't any but they did have blankets. We had prepared for this since we had a 4 year old with us and brought 2 extra blankets, unfortunately that wasn't enough. The outdoor structure is just sun sails and wind blows through them. Other restaurants have more of a wind bearing structure so that is what I was picturing, the white tents that are a little warmer. Even with our coats on we were frozen to the bone. Our tea would get cold before we finished our cups and the china on the table was so cold that our tea cooled off as soon as it was poured into the cup. Today is a 40 degree day so we rushed through our 90 minute tea and left before the hour was done. For $127 for 3 of us this wasn't the experience we had hoped for. If you have a table booked outside on a cold day I would cancel if and try another time. Outside is just not worth it. read more

I've been to afternoon tea at several vacation destinations and once at the Brown Palace a few years ago. Typically, you are paying for the atmosphere and experience, plus tea and treats. Here, the atmosphere is a very loud, small room crammed full of tables. The tea? Our group of six women was told, to start, we could choose two teas FOR THE TABLE. At these prices, we should all get to select our own pot of tea (this is included everywhere else I've had tea). The food was fine, the tea was good, and the service was understaffed (typical of everywhere) so we didn't get to try many more teas. I do not understand all the rave reviews. When I went to The Brown, we could enjoy the gorgeous light-filled atrium and relax over our own pots of tea while listening to live piano. Here, it's just a noisy room and, if you have a large group, not enough tea to go around. read more

This is my favorite tea place in Denver. The door posted that there's some parking behind the building or else 2 hour meter parking is also available. For first timers I highly recommend the 'Cream Tea' it comes with: a homemade scone, Devonshire cream, fresh fruit, and a pot of tea (over 80 choices). There's also gluten free vegan options in their bakery. Sandwiches, soup salads offers plenty of options and the afternoon tea is $26 per person. Weekends I would call to make reservations because of limited seating. Our server Katy or Katelyn was very efficient even though she was helping 4 tables at the same time. Definitely a 5-star experience. My daughter & I went for afternoon tea during a visit to Colorado. Babe's is amazing. As soon as you near the business, the sight of the color flowers is so eye catching! Definitely social media worthy. It's just so cute. We had a reservation and our table was ready upon arrival. We were in the outdoor seating area but that didn't take away from the experience at all. Our waiter came out and explained how afternoon tea works and then we browsed the menu to make our tea selection. Along with tea, an array of finger sandwiches and delectable sweet treats were included in our tea time. We went for Afternoon Tea and it was great! The finger sandwiches were adorable and the desserts were delicious. The selection of tea to choose definitely exceeded expectations. We also ordered the bottomless bubbly but I'd recommend, at least with Covid restrictions, to skip this just because you are on a time slot! I think with the tea I refilled my mimosa glass only once. It is street parking so I'd leave a little early to find a spot and walk! Especially due to having a reservation slot. There are two lots very close that offer paid parking. It's absolutely free to do so and most of all, you. will. need. it. This location is not large at all and if you want to snag an indoor spot, I'd recommend booking early on. My friend and I did the Afternoon Tea ($39) which came with: - Curried chicken salad tea sandwich - Cucumber tea sandwich - Ham sandwich - Cheese and jam sandwich - Plain biscuit - Pumpkin(?) and chocolate scone - Assorted sweets (apple cider macaroon, chocolate-dipped shortbread cookie, pumpkin cake with frosting, and a coconut chocolate dessert). - Devonshire cream, preserves, and a lemony custard There are literally so many teas to choose from and the best thing is that you can choose however many you want to try. Aaron was our server and he was great at explaining which timer to use to steep the tea, how to serve the tea, and also provided recommendations on what teas would tend to our tastebuds and if milk and/or sugar is recommended. The teapots are a smaller size so you have more room to try other teas during the experience. Overall, the space, service, and experience was on point. Well, it's hard to weather a change in ownership. My previous review was a love letter to my beloved House Of Commons. The ownership changed just before COVID hit, and I finally gave Babe's Tea Room a try today. In fairness I didn't stay to eat. I tried to order some basics - a veggie sandwich (they got rid of my previous favorite), my favorite tea (the took that off the menu too - it is incorrect here on Yelp), and a scone with jam and clotted cream. They were out of scones. It was 11:30 in the morning. My friend and I decided to leave at that point; seeing that this was rapidly nose-diving into an extremely disappointing experience. I recently attended a baby shower for my granddaughter here. The address is a little confusing; it is NOT on 15th street. It's fairly small but there is enough room; tables are not packed together. Don't expect the quiet, stately ambiance of the Brown Palace Tea; this is more of a neighborhood tea room and can get loud at times. Service, and the selection of teas and pastries/sandwiches, is friendly and excellent. Condiments provided are lemon curd, clotted cream and jam.They have small timers on the tables to indicate when the tea has been steeped correctly. Honey is provided on every table. Tea is provided in pots on the table, rather than being served by white-gloved attendants. Free parking is available behind the restaurant. My only issue (why I reduced the rating by one star) is price; $48 per person seems rather high (it is still less expensive than the Brown Palace). read more

I had a wonderful experience here for my birthday. I made a reservation 2 months in advanced because I've seen how busy it gets. It is also very loud in the very small shop. The afternoon tea sandwiches were delicious but it didn't seem like enough food. My boyfriend wanted to order from the regular menu but unfortunately there was only afternoon tea on the weekends. There were a lot of tea options and it seemed to cater to everyone. However I felt bad for the people who had to sit outside. The sandwiches had gotten slightly stale and the bread was slightly crunchy, but overall it was a good dining experience. I wouldn't say that anything was spectacular. It was standard tea fare. The space was small, the servers walking around the room were constantly running into the back of my friends chair. That was less than ideal. While the space is insta worthy, it was so loud. We were across a tiny table from each other and had to raise our voices to hear. It probably would have been better outside, but the weather wasn't cooperating. The service was slow. "You can try as many teas as you want," said our server, "but keep in mind there's only one bathroom." The strength of (pre-pandemic) House of Commons is in their extensive tea menu and as said, letting you try as many as you want. I haven't experienced that sort of tea generosity before. Their other strength is in their servers - both were really friendly and personable. I can't resist a chocolate chai, and am usually disappointed in chai that's not a latte. Not the case here - I even meant to look into whether I could buy it. The chocolate didn't make it too sweet and there was even the tiniest bit of spiciness to it. I also tried the milk oolong tea based on the description and that's when I was happy about the offer to "try any tea." I didn't realize it would be not too different from what I've had at Chinese restaurants (which is fine at Chinese restaurants but not really what I want when I ha run of the place). I had it replaced with the ginger peach decaf which I really liked. The husband preferred mine to his poor choice of earl grey lavender. His tea smelled like perfume and unfortunately tasted that way, too. The afternoon tea comes with a set of four sandwiches. They do try to accommodate dietary restrictions but if you ask for a substitution you just get more of one of those four. It would be nice to have a longer list to choose from. The set of four was fine for me, but not so good for the husband who doesn't like cheese or cream cheese (and horseradish but didn't want to be a prick by asking for *three* sandwiches to be replaced). From best to worst: Tie for first between curry chicken salad and roast beef with horseradish: Curry chicken salad - I always like this combination, but I do think it would be improved with nuts. Roast beef with horseradish - The horseradish is subtle so the husband actually liked it. I, on the other hand, wouldn't have minded if it was stronger. Cream cheese and cucumber - They advertise it as having a special chive cream cheese but I couldn't taste it and it seemed pretty standard to me. Cheddar with apricot jam (I think) - The good news is that I liked it more than a cheddar branston pickle sando I recently had at another place for tea. The bad news is I just don't care for cheddar in a sandwich. It's just too strong for me. The next course was the worst: scones. These were served cold, which is a pet peeve of mine. They looked like little biscuits but tasted like scones. Their scones were fine but nothing to write home about, and arrived with devonshire cream, a strawberry preserves which I liked, and a strangely runny lemon curd that despite my concerns tasted fine. Last was desserts. We each had three little treats. We liked the shortbread half dipped in chocolate and our favorite, the decadent flourless chocolate cake. I wasn't as fond of the vanilla cake with raspberry filling, and thought the frosting made it too sweet. I also thought the chocolate cake could have done with less frosting. House of Commons followed the recent tea house trend of offering smaller portions so you don't leave over-full. The sandwiches and scones are definitely smaller than other places, which isn't a bad thing. Not to worry though - we still left full. Don't go to House of Commons expecting an over decorated, doily-filled cottage filled with tchotchkes from all over the Realm. I'm okay with minimalist decor but I also like a little whimsy to it. I have to say I was hoping for a little British decor given the name of the places but I'm guessing Commons has something to do with the name of the neighborhood. Pssst! Can I buy the chocolate chai?
