This past visit, we got butter beans, and I was surprised on how good it tasted. Some things that are so simple just taste out of this world. Spices and condiments such as 2 options of honey and hot sauce are available at your table. Service was excellent. Our server was attentive and so sweet, just like my sweet tea! My cousin and I shared the fried catfish and the chicken fried steak. The batter on the chicken fried steak was crisp, flavorful, and THICC! The catfish was so satisfying, especially with the side of tartar sauce provided. I was on cloud 9. Just as everyone says, this is not for anyone who's trying to watch their figure. It was my college son's "want" for his last meal before heading to school in Minnesota. We hadn't been all summer but it's the same great food and service as I remembered. Hosts were nice and sat us quickly. Our server was fun and attentive. Her Banana Pudding dessert recommendation was a great choice (even though she doesn't eat bananas). This is a staple in our home. Some locations have a unique offering and can really blow You away with their biscuits. Servers are always on point with refills and quickly produced items you need. The integrated dance routines make my son feel special. The dances also don't take away from their service and they are all into participating- no one seems angry or put out to do the Hokey Pokey which would ruin a small child's involvement if they weren't engaged with them. It was a cute place, very very loud and crowded. I always enjoy that town center. I typically don't eat salty, sugary or high carb foods so it was a bit of a shock to my palate. I'm a great cook and used to quality food. If this is how your grandma cooked, I am sorry for you. The sides were sub par elementary school cafeteria quality - limp salty canned green beans, limp salty corn, salty biscuits, and sugar drenched iceberg lettuce. The only things worth eating were the over salted biscuits, the over salted dry fried chicken and the mashed potatoes. I imagine my cholesterol and insulin levels are through the roof. I'll have to fast for a week to get over that incredibly unhealthy meal. I didn't mind paying the $20 bc it was an evening with friends, but I darn sure will not return. You won't leave hungry. We have eaten at the Babe's in Fort Worth and here many times. We also get takeout from this location, especially when a lot of family is coming over. The menu is limited (Chicken, Chicken, Chicken and Chicken fried steak) but hea . . . it's called Babe's Chicken house :-). Everything is excellent. Thought I would try their smoked chicken. Unfortunately, it was dry and tough. I only ate one piece. I am mostly disappointed in myself -- for not asking the waitress to take it back. The food is good and seasoned very well. I like the concept of the family style meals. Only issue I had was they were not very accommodating to large parties (we had about 20 people). If your concept is family style dining, I would like to be seated with my entire party and not separate tables. When I recommended connecting the two tables together, I was turned down immediately and that didn't sit too well with me. It's the small things that matter. Babe's is always our choice for home cooking! Garland is the only location that serves ribs and they are outstanding. I'm a longtime Dallas resident and remember Youngblood's Chicken Restaurants. They built the "old mill inn " at the State Fair of Texas . The building still stands. The family were chicken farmers who grew a successful chicken restaurant chain here in Texas before KFC! Whether true or not, it is rumored that Babe's fried chicken is the Youngblood's Chicken recipe. Regardless, it is the best in DFW now! We went to Babe's last night and I realized that I haven't updated my review in years, so here goes! The place is the same, the food is still great, the service is great, but they have taken away the ribs ever since Covid and they blame it on high prices. Do you really think the same people who pay $20 for four pieces of chicken won't pay $30 for ribs? Disgraceful in my opinion and you lose a star. Now my favorite here is the smoked chicken and the fried chicken never disappoints. We were salad (iceberg lettuce with a sweet vinaigrette, on a hot day it could be refreshing, it was ok). and biscuits (crispy outside and soft inside even better with butter and honey ) to start. The Chicken was delicious (crispy crust, not greasy and juicy tender meat, definitely the star of the show. Love the southern green beans and of course you have to have the buttery corn and creamy mashed potatoes! Homemade biscuits with honey adds a little sweet on the side! He had requested and looked forward to this meal for weeks. We ordered food for 12 chicken dinners for take out. A sibling offered to pick it up on the way to the event but while unloading it was realized that we received everything but the chicken. Ugh. I've been going to Babes Chicken in Carrollton for years and enjoyed their delicious fried chicken, but I noticed a few time this year when I ordered a pickup, the chicken are small and burnt. I'm not kidding. It literally looks like they put leftover chicken no one wants in the box. I paid $35 for a 8 piece dinner and I'm so angry at the person(s) who put the order together.
