While running local errands on June 17, 2026, I stopped by this deli for the first time--just five minutes before closing. Their hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and I definitely should not have cut it that close. Even so, Larry--who I believe is the owner--treated me like a long-lost brother. He never made me feel rushed or unwelcome and took excellent care of me. I ordered the Club Salad, and it was so good my mouth is watering just thinking about it. They totally Messed up on my order, I asked for Two chicken Gyro pitas and was told I ordered a steak gyro pita when I clearly asked for a Chicken Gyro. I've gone to this business countless of times because they have amazing food and this is by far the worst experience ever. When I walked in, we were immediately greeted and asked if I needed any assistance with the menu. Catch owner Susie in the background of this video making sure every customer enjoys their meals. Chef Larry in the back whips up the freshest meals, you can't get quality like this at other places. And say hi to Perry who is a main stay at this restaurant. Susie and Larry are the dream team couple for running this local business! Walked in with my 1 year old daughter, excited to grab a sub to have a picnic with her. We are in the restaurant for maybe 2 minutes before the lady behind the counter rudely tells me to stop letting my daughter touch all the individually packaged chips. She was incredibly rude in her tone and honestly if you don't want little kids touching the chips, maybe put them somewhere where they are out of reach. So sad that we will never be stepping foot in the Main Street Deli again due to my 1 year old getting in trouble for acting like a normal child. read more

We all got subs, and were all remarking how good they were - come to find out that the friendly owner is a native New Yorker. Which explains it. Surprisingly the cheapest menu options are the burgers - need to try one of those. Have to admit - it does feel good to support a local establishment, and be treated so warmly and attentively. This place is long and narrow, with small tables of four lining each each wall. You walk the aisle of tables past the crumbling, faux brick walls that are adorned with art posters from the 1950s "Hollywood Dreams" series featuring Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. Once at the back of the place you will see the menu and order your food. There is an assortment of club type sandwiches, gyros and wraps. I went for the peppered turkey sandwich with a slightly different side of fried mushrooms. The turkey was thinly sliced and shredded with the pepper mixed within. It was delightful. Wow what a gem. This is the exact type of sandwich/deli shop I've been needing in my life. Who knew Garland had the cheese, meat, and toasty bread to fill this void? We came for Reubens, but tried the red lentil soup of the day as well, and it was thick and creamy which made for a wonderful way to warm up on a rainy day. You can tell this place is family owned, the staff is so friendly and the woman taking our order was more than helpful! The pastrami reubens were layered perfectly, with just the right amount of cheese, meat, and tangy sauerkraut. The thousand island dressing added a lovely tang that really made the flavor of the pastrami pop. Speaking of which, wow. Think paper thin shavings, overflowing just enough to make every bite a savory mouthful that didn't overwhelm any other element. If you want a decent sandwich please....please ask about gloves because it's necessary. I'm not going to get into many details but I wanted 3 of the Greek and 3 of the Chicken gyros. They were low on lamb meat and several employees were coughing and touching everything, including fixing the trashcan. I didn't see anyone wash their hands but it was literally seconds as I watched them cook. The meat was in paper pre sliced and continued to cook. No gloves were used so I decided on getting a refund. Granted it's a small menu, nevertheless, they have a variety of food items to choose from. Besides, neighborhood delis are places you frequent for yoooour one thing on the menu. I might be wrong, but that is at least my reason. These mom and pop shops are for creatures of habit who like a home away from home feel. This family owned deli is right in the heart of downtown Garland and if you frequent this spot, Susie will know you by name, she has a heart of gold and is also so pleasant. This spot is always clean and the food always fresh. They have a new special everyday, main item, side and drink for $6.50. Perfect for a quick lunch with co-workers. I recommend the hummus and a gyro, this deli has Greek items on the menu, and they always hit the spot!
