I've always heard great things about this restaurant. I finally was able to try it along with my family one afternoon. I kicked off my lunch with the Louisiana Sunset. This is absolut peach vodka, peach schnapps, sour apple liqueur with lemonade and orange juice topped with raspberry liqueur. The presentation of this beverage was cute, but the taste was delightful. As an appetizer we tried the crawfish rolls. These were absolutely delicious! The rolls were lightly fried with crawfish, corn and bell peppers topped with an orange chili sauce. The entire table was upset we didn't order more, but at the same time wanted to save room for our entrees. As an entree, I ordered the shrimp and grits. There shrimp and grits is more on a gumbo style. Meaning it's a little more soupy than what I'm use to. However, it was still good and was topped with bacon, cheese and chives. I love that the restaurant was very open. They are able to accommodate both large and small parties with more than enough elbow and walking room between tables. Babin's is my family's go to stop while in Katy. We are Landry Select Club Members, and seafood lovers. We have always had great food and service, our usual/preferred server is Stacey. And she is friendly, professional, attentive, EVERYTHING. However, my family stopped in late Friday evening and I'm questioning my experience- which led me to writing this review. Our food was good, our server- however, not so great. She lagged (talking/laughing with coworkers) after we made request and sent over another server to bring condiments. We are a family of four- mother, father, and two toddler sons. We ordered a substantial amount of food- and she asked if we'd like the check split. Not sure of her motivation for asking, but it made my spouse so uncomfortable he went to the car with our youngest (most active) son. By looking at my profile avatar you can tell my background, and I'll just say my server did not look like me. It was ok! The drinks were fairly generous. I was pleased to see a sparkling wine served in a wine glass...lol. The seafood was very fresh which is always a plus. The ambiance is a bit chain like and casual but clean and professional. The gulf oysters they serve are ginormous, so if you don't like the big ones beware! The Caesar salads were commercial grade. He had stuffed mahi and said he enjoyed it, it did look a bit over sauced and I noticed he didn't finish. I had the scallops because the server told me it was a smaller portion. A smaller portion by Texas terms maybe! I think there were ten full sized scallops on the plate, and they were drowned in butter. (Generally a drizzle is fine!). The dirty rice was good. The onion strings though were more like rings. Still good though! It's ok if you want a chain meal, but I bet there's better out there! read more

Went to Babins this weekend and did not walk away with a great experience. Firstly we sat and waited about 10 minutes before anyone came to our table which wasn't a huge thing at the time. Then we ordered the creamy crawfish bisque then decided on entrees. We wanted the Golden Tile which was checked on feature fish list however we were told they were out and no one had gone up there to change the sign, okay whatever. Then we order grouper and stuffed flounder. We receive the bisque and I requested to have some bread. The bisque was okay but not as delicious as I've had previously. While this is happening, my tea has gone empty however after 5-7 minutes another waitress sees it and fills it for me. Then our mean arrives and I once again request bread as many other tables have gotten it already. My shrimp were rock hard and the crawfish in my sauce was the size of ants and looked burnt. My date's fish was weird consistency as well and steamed broccoli barely cooked. Once again my tea is empty. Finally the waiter comes to check on us and I mention that we never got our bread of which he asked if I wanted it and I commented that it would be a waste of time since we're done eating. I also mentioned that my tea had been empty now for over 15 minutes. He goes and gets me tea and brings the check but instead of handing it to me, he kind of just throws it on my table. I put the card in the envelope and he comes and takes it. Once again he comes throws the envelope On the table and walks away. Never once did he ask how the meal was and someone else cleared the table before we could tell him our meal was not great. I usually tip very well however the waiter's demeanor completely changed upon requesting bread and tea. I spent less money at Commanders Palace in New Orleans for a 5 star experience and meal than I did at Babins. So if you're looking for a good meal and time, keep driving down i10 because this place has gone downhill. It's a shame they are trying to represent NOLA, for true! read more

This typical of a Landry's restaurant--noisy atmosphere, mediocre service, and over priced & unremarkable food. Today I visited this location for the second time and I was not impressed with the taste of the food. I ordered the crawfish 1/2 and 1/2 and from the moment I tasted it I felt it was pretty bland. It don't seem as if they put a lot of seasoning in it including the dirty rice. The positive out of the experience was the service. The waiter was very friendly. I tried the stuffed jalepno, fried crawfish and shrimp. I also had the crab bisque - cream style - so rich with large peices of meat. I then moved on the fried seafood platter. I had lunch with a co-worker today at the Katy location. Our server was friendly and the bread and salads were served shortly after placing our orders. While eating our salads, my co-worker noticed a small roach-like bug crawling across our table, making a bee-line for my salad. I used my drink napkin to dispatch our new and unwelcome friend and immediately showed it to our waiter when he walked by. He apologized and took the napkin (bug carcass inside) presumably to the manager. Our lunch was served a short time later, followed by the the check and no visit from the manager. Although I didn't expect a free or discounted meal (since the bug wasn't IN our food), I did expect the manager to, at the very least, visit our table as a courtesy and good business practice. I understand that many businesses are struggling post-pandemic, but this should be standard practice for a management position in the restaurant industry. I've been to Babin's countless times for lunch and a couple of times for HH. It's definitely decent seafood; the fried foods are OK but it's not a lot for the price. I'm not one for a pile of fries to make me feel like I'm getting my money's worth so I generally pass on them. I had a very interesting experience the first time I came here with a coworker. She asked for a virgin pina colada and was served one with alcohol. She asked me to taste it but honestly I couldn't taste much alcohol in it so she kept drinking. Lawd why she started talking about she was feeling loosey goosey. I drink but I'm not a drinker drinker...but one little punk ass drink like a pina colada ain't never had me feeling like that. But I guess since she never drinks, it may be different for her. Long story short, she felt like she couldn't drive...got into it with what looked like a first line manager...he was super nonchalant to the point he acted like he didn't care they served her alcohol when she doesn't drink. A more seasoned manager came over and comped her food. Babin's HQ did follow up with making it even better when she sent them a letter regarding it. I think them comping the food was adequate but since it didn't happen to me.... I do not like the seafood gumbo at this spot. The roux was not on point. On the flip side, I tried atchafalaya blackened catfish which I highly recommend, very yummy! Catfish with a crawfish and lemon butter sauce....*mouth watering* Regarding HH, the bites are a decent value but I'm not overly impressed. The sliders were good but the "popular" shrimp and crab fondue was kinda blah to me...it could stand to have been a bit more cheesier but for $5, cant complain too much. New Orleans style seafood - how I love it. This is the stuff on which I was raised. Babin's says they have the world's best gumbos and bisques. The creamy bisques are quite delicious but they loose points for not offering chicken and sausage gumbo. I am always afraid to try the gumbo anywhere though. Some people make it the creole way with okra and I am not a fan of the slimy okra floating around in my gumbo. After fried mushrooms as a casual appetizer, my second favorite is fried green tomatoes and you can get them here served with a homemade marinara sauce. The Gulf Coast seafood salsa is also quite yummy - a neat Cajun twist on salsa. Okay, I know this is a seafood restaurant, but you'd be sorry to miss the Chicken Evangeline. It is broiled and topped with spinach and jack cheese and served with a side of dirty rice. You can cut the chicken with a fork, it is so tender. Babin's also has a selection of platters so you can sample a little bit of everything on one plate. I have to tell you, though - they are huge and it is hard to get through the whole plate on your own. These are great options for people that have difficulty deciding between the shrimp, the oysters, or the crawfish. For dessert, you must try the Bourbon street Bread Pudding. Don't tell my grandmother but it is better than what she used to make when I was growing up in Louisiana. Shhhh. Really, it's the best. read more

Upper class seafood chain, when most of the offerings are based on the bottom dwelling variety. To compare a classy Cajun establishment to Long Jong Silvers is not fair. Yet the crispy outer shell yet still soggy inside cod makes you wonder. The fantastically amazing appetizer red beans and rice, full of seasoning, makes you gasping for the next dish. The warm up File gumbo composed of a dense charred roux, soft darkened shards of prey. Something new to this bourbon street veteran. yet it ultimately led to the sadness in the main entree. It was tough to order when the special of the day is Tilapia, and then the lunch menu dominated by catfish. A sign where class has been compromised by price. The battered cod (Is it oceanbering?)some how combines the mushy innerd with a crispy toasty batter, much much less than Long john Silvers or even Captain Gordons off days. A tough texture to render? What was once a fresh clean pretzel quality of fish, has been ice aged to a pillory tiredness. The first place where the appetizers is the redeeming factor for the meal. We stopped in here one night on our way back from Austin. Ugh, I wish we hadn't, but now I know. It's just another boring spin off from Landry's. They all taste the same to me. I'm just over them. Our service was fine - no complaints, but nothing worth writing an elaborate paragraph about. My bloody Mary was OK, certainly shouldn't go down as "famous". I've had way better at many other places, but again, it wasn't terrible. My greek salad had good flavor, but was very watery. They really need to spin out the lettuce better; or maybe it's all pre-made and I got the bottom of the bowl. My PASTA DI MARE: Lump crab, shrimp, scallops & angel hair pasta in a spicy arrabbiata sauce (for 17.99) had decent flavor, the seafood was cooked well, but the pasta was soggy. My boyfriend's PAN-BROILED JUMBO SEA SCALLOPS 'A Babin's favorite' for 19.99 were a sad sad sight. I'm not sure what made them "jumbo" as they were less than an inch wide each. We've paid the same elsewhere and got much better food. Needless to say we won't be coming back. Too many other great options in Houston. read more

It's a decent place to get a taste of seafood with a New Orleans ambiance. I wish the red beans and rice dinner came with a small filet of catfish instead of the thinly sliced catfish bites. It was very tasty with just the right amount of seasoning. After all, the dinner was$16.99. In addition, my vegetarian son asked for his Zydeco pasta to be cooked without the chicken and mushrooms and was originally charged the full 18.99. After discussion with the waiter, they knocked off $6 bucks for not having any chicken. His pasta was lightly creamy,but limited on flavor. The best part was the swirl margarita for $7.99. Our car was broken into, window smashed and briefcase with laptop stolen while we were having lunch at Babin's in Katy sometime between 12:30 and 1:45. Apparently, this has happened before here. We asked our waitress to have the manager call the police so we could report the incident. We waited. And, we waited some more. Then, we called the manager over. We then asked the manager directly to call the police and the manager, Dylan Camareno (sp.?), said, "Well, I'll call them if you really want me to..." I remain confused about this question. This manager was rude, unapologetic and not helpful. We asked our waitress about this guy and she offered up another manager. Enter older, more seasoned manager. He was equally unfazed by the robbery. We asked if it had happened before and they said it had not. The waitress said it had. The police said it had. No one really apologized. We had ordered a lot because we had time to kill, so our bill was rather large. They didn't offer to comp the meal. They didn't even offer to give us a free previously frozen slice of cheesecake on the house. Most importantly, they dragged their feet about calling the police because they don't want this kind of repeated crime to be on repeated record for their restaurant. We went to this restaurant yesterday during their happy hour. The happy hour prices are great, most appetizers are only $5 & crawfish boil is only $3.99/lb. If I have to I'll rank their crawfish at 3.5 out of 5. Their fried calamari is good, not overcooked & crispy on the outside. The spinach dip was just alright, I like Chilli's better. The crawfish & boudin boulletes were good & yummy. Would totally order that next time. The service was just OK. They need more people around the bar & courtyard area. We have to ask for our drink refills every single time. Cmon now we were eating crawfish & it's spicy. They should've used their common sense & left the drink pitchers on the side for us, that'll surely be easier for them. Plus our waitress always forget the straws, multiple people have to asked for it. While we were eating, we saw the other waiters & waitresses just standing around in the reception desk, joking around, while our waitress was running around. The atmosphere was very nice. Our waitress was from Louisiana and she had a thick accent which made the experience really authentic! I'm watching my girlish figure so I chose the blackened catfish and asparagus. It was great! My date ordered the scallops with dirty rice and a baked sweet potato.
