" MY NEW FAMILY" This is surely a hidden gem. I have been in this neighborhood for over 9 years and only visited here twice before I started regularly eating at this location. It is literally like a family. I watched people come in and out of door and the bar area surely has it patrons that visit often and the bartenders know their names. My experiences have been great with the employees I have encountered except for one occasion but the good outweigh the bad. I have sat in the dining room before but I have recently started sitting at the bar and the staff are absolutely amazing. My angels are "JESSICA P, ANALYSSA AND NICK". All of them have made me feel like family from day one and treat me with so much respect. Before I can even get out of my mouth what I need, they are already anticipating my needs. My regular meals are Happy Hour Fish with onion strings and spinach dip. My lunch menu meal is the chicken breast with salad and sweet potato only butter. My food is always hot and tasty. The Grilled chicken has this undeniable flavor. It is immaculate. Grilled to perfection. I am always meeting someone at the bar, conversing and eating dinner together while enjoying the company. This restaurant helps me to unwind after a long day at work.

Service is good. I ordered the crab bisque and as usual , it was good. Now let's talk about sauces- ordered three tail fish with Ponchartrain sauce and this was a hot mess. First - don't think cooks really understand how to make a sauce! I realize that mushrooms are cheep (usually not used anywhere in this sauce) however, mushrooms are watery! Today sauce had zero flavor and was like brown water (mushrooms) all over the place. So many mushrooms to give peoples eyes the vision "of more", that doesn't work here. So they royally screwed up the sauce which ruined the fish. So took it home to see if I could doctor up. Question for the chef- should anyone have to do this because you have no idea (or did) how mushrooms affect the sauce? I hope this is not the way it's normally made.

Had a late, post Dr Appt lunch date at Babins today. Don't see a lot on Babins reviews, but today's lunch deserves a shoutout. On Tuesday, they have Mardi Gras specials on apps and drinks. The mushroom app was excellent with the stuffing well balanced with crawfish. The fried snapper was perfect, not over cooked but lightly fried and very flakey allowing the snapper to shine. The crawfish étouffée was just a bit over peppered but still tasty. The bread pudding was awesome as always. And Babins has the very best New Orleans style bread. Great lunch! A special shout out to Monica Garza, our server - great recommendations, very personable and spot on service!

I've been coming to this Babin's one to three times a year for over 10 years. It's always been consistent in service and food quality. This trip I started with the filé gumbo, Caesar salad and my entree was broiled red snapper with creole green beans on the Monday fish special for 19.99. My wife had the soup and sandwich with crawfish bisque and shrimp po boy. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful.

Lovely staff - so sweet! Food was a bit heavy and a bit overpriced. Got the fondue which came out a bit cold, so the cheese was not doing it. The pontchartrain was $36 for fish and rice, certainly tasty but a bit overpriced. Maybe I need to try different items! Cheers!

I don't tend to frequent chain restaurants but my mom wanted to go to Babin's for her birthday! I ordered the fish your way - broiled (which is actually done on the flat top) with the creole green beans and a baked potato. Our server Stacy was The best part of the meal! When she first brought our drinks to the table, I asked her for a straw and poof! like magic, she already had two wrapped up in a napkin to hand us without touching/contaminating them by putting them in the drinks for us. I appreciated her consideration and preparedness. Stacy also informed me that the pan seared option involves a light dusting with flour to "crisp" the fish. I'm thankful she was looking out for me and my gluten-free diet! The creole green beans were tender and delicious! Stacy had a lot of humor, refused to let my mom pay, though my mom did try to insist multiple times, and packaged our food for us because she viewed it as a more "professional" and higher end experience for the customer and ensured to segregate to prevent any gluten contamination. She shared with us some personal thoughts and stories and really made an effort to connect with us, which I deeply appreciated.

We were super excited coming here, especially when we first walked in. Instantly reminded me of Pappas seafood house with its decor, dark moody lighting, furniture and layout. It was a nostalgic feeling. Service was excellent and very quick and attentive with our water levels. Unfortunately the food is where Babin lacks. The complimentary bread that came out wasn't hot and not even warm. The passion fruit mojito was on the sweeter side, but I still enjoyed it enough to finish it. Crawfish stuffed mushrooms- 4/5, very cheesy and creamy. The right amount of crawfish and the mushrooms were decent sized. Fried catfish- 5/5 for the catfish itself. Breading was perfect flakiness and adhered to the fish well. The fries, like the bread, were less than warm and not crispy at all- disappointing. Onion rings were fair. Cocktail sauce had the right amount of horseradish for that expected kick. Snapper pontchartrain- 2/5. Snapper was overcooked and not flaky at all. Tried cutting the fish with a fork and large parts of the fish were pulled off strung together. The fish was topped off and loaded with crawfish and mushrooms but it seemed like it was attempting to cover the lack of flavor in the sauce. Suppose to be brown butter sauce but it was so light and had no seasoning, neither did the fish. Very disappointing dish. I took it home in order to give it more seasoning before finishing it. Ultimately we came for the fried catfish which we loved. But everything else didn't meet the hype.

Oh where do I begin, walked in this past Sunday March 22 and decided to sit at the bar which was full with 1 bartender Jessica and she was moving pretty slow. When we sat at the last 2 seats that were open I didn't mind that the previous customers dirty dishes and trash was there cause they probably just left, but it shouldn't take 10 minutes to acknowledge we were there and to remove the trash. The guy next to me ordered an old fashioned and when he finally got it he sent it back because he wanted the big ice cube then he decided to leave since it was taking too long. A customer ordered a manhattan and the bartender Jessica poured that unwanted old fashioned into a martini glass, added some ingredients and gave it to the guy. He tasted it and asked was this a manhattan? She then said yes, do you want me to put it in a shorter glass. Are you serious Jessica? That guy probably knows what it taste like and when she made him a second one you can see the color difference and he even said the first one did not taste like it. What if he was allergic to something in that old drink she poured in. And if there's cameras in the bar area they'd see it. Food was bland drinks were too sweet and that hurricane mix needs to go. Should make hurricane drinks the old fashioned way.

I haven't been to Babin's in forever! Came here with my parents for Houston's Restaurant Weeks. They throughly enjoyed themselves! Unfortunately I only got the one picture of shrimp gumbo and it was pretty good, very filling. I called to make sure nothing had changed and that we didn't need to make reservations. The hostess informed me that we only needed to make reservations for large groups and of course private events. We went around 6pm on Saturday. They were very busy, but since the restaurant is pretty large, there's plenty of seating and we didn't have to wait to be seated. Our waiter was very nice, patient and accommodating. The fried oysters were good (we had as appetizers outside the restaurant week menu), just fried a little hard. I don't eat much fried food, dad mostly wanted them. They were okay, I prefer char grilled. From the HOU Res Week Menu we had: Caesar Salad - can't go too wrong with a salad Gumbo - Good and filling Stuffed Flounder with Cajun Rice - so good!! Fried Shrimp with fries and fried onions - fried hard but still good Beignets - definitely recommend Strawberry Cheesecake - Delicious! Very busy place, but we enjoyed our dinner!

Caesar side salad with happy hour peel and eat shrimp. The alternative when you don't want a larger salad.

Love the food, service, and staff at Babins. They consistently produce the best quality items. I especially love the great variety of choices from their Happy Hour Menu.

CITRUS HEAT CRAWFISH (medium heat): Strong kick when dipped in the juice at the bottom of the bag. Good flavor, but doesn't compare to my favorite crawfish flavor (The Mix at Crawfish Cafe). Large to medium-sized crawfish (late May). GARLIC BUTTER MUSSELS (mild heat): Really good! Large to medium-sized mussels. RAW OYSTERS: They were fine. Not bad, not particularly great. The word that came to mind was lackluster. I know they're gulf oysters, but I've had much better gulf oysters. Large to medium-sized. No small ones. Came with 1 small lemon slice and 4 small lime slices. LOBSTER BURGER: Really good! Great flavor! Good, brioche bun! Felt loaded! They didn't skimp on lobster meat. I saw a whole small claw in there! Appreciated the toothpick to keep it all together as much as possible. Would've been pretty messy without it. The FRIES were really good as well! Lightly crispy on the outside, soft inside, and well-seasoned. GUMBO: This was not very good. The rice was fully submerged under the gumbo, not on the side. The rice was also a little hard/undercooked. The meats were bland. The gumbo soup was very thin, like water (I prefer it thicker in consistency). On the bright side, the soup was flavorful.

The food is consistently flavorful, and whenever I'm missing New Orleans, this place gives me a taste of home. What keeps me coming back is not just the food, but also the outstanding customer service. The staff is always kind, welcoming, and attentive. Many times, I've placed an order before work, and they have it ready with the same level of care and hospitality as if I were dining in the restaurant. That level of service is truly appreciated. The food is always fresh, hot, and prepared consistently. One of my absolute favorites is the remoulade sauce. It is incredibly flavorful, tasty, and complements the meal perfectly. For health reasons, I recently ordered the Kids Catfish Meal, and it was the perfect choice. The portion size was more than enough, and I even had dirty rice left over to enjoy later. The meal includes an entrée, side, and drink, making it an excellent value for the price. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that delivers both quality food and exceptional customer service on a consistent basis. The employees are truly a jewel, and their dedication does not go unnoticed. Highly recommended! (5 Stars)

Getting to the location was quite easy, parking was super easy as well, it is in a small shopping center. As I went inside, I could smell the food, and I knew it was going to be good. I was greeted by a younger guy who handed me the menu, but fortunately, I already knew what I wanted! Which was one of everything! But, I was solo on this day, so I had to have some restraint! I chose to go with the catfish basket, with 2 filets, fries (cajun), a side of mac and cheese, and a side of their specialty sauce that comes with crawfish! I had an appointment I was going to next, and I didn't think about how long it would take, but fortunately, it didn't take long at all. They drop the food to cook after you order, which I love!!! The catfish and fries were piping hot when they came out. Seasoned just perfectly for my taste! I'm glad I went with the two, so that I could take the other one home for later!!! I don't know how they season the fish, but keep doing what you're doing! I got the mac and cheese, it looked super good. It was cheesy and had the cheese pull that we all know and love. It wasn't my most favorite dish, it was missing a little something. BUT!!! When I added the side sauce with the crawfish in it, it became my favorite! Something about that combo just works! I believe it's the sauce they use in one of their pastas, but don't quote me on that! The sauce I used as a dip for everything, fries, mac and catfish. It is worth getting! All in all, loved everything about this place. It reminds me a little of some of the places I used to go to growing up in Memphis. Family vibe, packing lots of flavors, good music going, and just good everything. Will be back to try more of the menu!

I didn't recall anything bad about the place, and given the rave reviews since then, I thought it was time to return. Based on reviews, we showed up early on a Friday evening (~5 pm). Even at that time, it was mostly full, but we were able to snag seats at the bar, which is first come first serve. We ordered the "regular" grilled oysters (5/5), which were anything but regular, as they were topped with peanuts and a really great flavor. I'd get these again. Fair warning, these take 20 minutes to come out, which I didn't mind, but I did not realize that they would not bring us anything else until after the oysters since these are considered an app. I thought they'd just bring things out as they were ready. This meant, we did not get our crawfish until we were already sitting there for an hour. About halfway into the wait for the crawfish (after the oysters), the fried rice (1/5) showed up, and I have to say, it was underwhelming. It came out room temperature, which to me is cold, and I thought this was just how they do it. Except 15 minutes later, the seats next to us got their fried rice, and it came out piping hot. You could still see the steam coming off of it. Besides being cold, I didn't think the fried rice was that good in terms of flavor. I also generally prefer the short grain rice, and this was more of a long grain. Once the crawfish showed up, we were well past an hour, so we dove right into it. Both the garlic butter and combo mix were great flavor - some of the best I've had in Houston. However.... it made me remember why we did not return. About 20% of the crawfish were TINY. And by tiny, I mean they were smaller than my pinky finger. Maybe I'm a crawfish snob, but at this time of the season, there should not be that many tiny crawfish. Maybe a few small ones, but not tiny. Crawfish flavor = 5+/5, crawfish quality = 2/5, crawfish cook = 3/5. Then I made the mistake of ordering a cluster of snow crab. That took another 30+ min to come out, and it was again room temperature. The service at the bar was fine (4/5), but the kitchen service (1/5) is not something I want to experience again, especially not for the crawfish quality/size. Yes, the flavor was amazing, but I'm not fighting for a table for lukewarm food and 30 min wait time for each dish. The pricing was some of the lowest I've seen ($8.99/lb crawfish), but I'd rather pay $1 more at other places for the quality.

I called the order in and she told me about the special on crawfish once I hit 5lbs. Buy 5 Get 1 Free. I love love love crawfish and this was my first time having them since I moved to Texas in August. The flavors were very unique so the foodie in me couldn't decide. There are so many places to try so I just decided to wing it. 2lbs - House Special 2lbs - Kitchen Special 2lbs - Thai Basil (I was scaredddddd and excited) I added an order of potatoes and eggs. All Hot. Got home and got them gloves on that s$%t was so HOT (temperature and spice) I had time to find a movie and pray for my tummy bcus I was finna grub even if it burned a hole in my mouth lol. It was DELICIOUS!!!!!!!! They all have their own unique flavor. The House was reallyyyyyyy good. They were kinda sweet and spicy to me. The Kitchen had the kitchen sink in them. It was all kinds of veggies cooked into the crawfish. The flavor was all throughout so the heads were delicious. The THAI BASIL was the ONE it had a unique taste that you don't expect when eating crawfish but it tf WORKS. Let's get into these eggs. They were just past ramen eggs. Dipped in the sauce at the bottom of them bags (eye roll in foodgasm heaven). Can't wait to order again.

When I tell you the boxes were not even close all the way bc there was so much food in the box lol I love gizzards but these were fried a little too hard for me I like my gizzards a little more softer but still fried that's the reason for the 4 star but other than that everything was amazing! Dish was fried to perfection and wings were nice and crispy!!!! Okra was such a generous "side" as well. He gave us like 20 sauces for everything and ketchup no napkins but that's ok! We had a car date with our toddlers wipies lol we will def come back here nice little food run will be back !

Went in today and ordered a 15-piece whole wing meal. After receiving my order, I asked for mild…read moresauce, hook sauce, and some lemon pepper on the side, which I've been getting for years. I was told they charge extra for lemon pepper. I simply asked when they started charging for it because I've never been charged before. The employee responded that they have always charged for it. When I explained that I had never been charged in the past, she told me she had been working there a long time and had never seen me before. At that point, it felt like I was being called a liar. I made it clear that I had no problem paying the charge--I was only asking when the policy changed. The issue wasn't the cost; it was the way I was treated. As a longtime customer, I didn't appreciate being spoken to that way. Because of this experience, I won't be returning, and I'll be sharing my experience with the customers and friends I've referred there over the years. I have proof of some of my past purchases and visits.
