My husband and I celebrated our 38th anniversary at Babin's tonight. We're originally from Louisiana and missed our old favorite seafood restaurant, but no more! Babin's food was excellent, as was the service. Our server Nancy was friendly, attentive, and quick. The prices are quite reasonable, the atmosphere is comfortably Cajun, and the dining room itself rivals many of the nicer New Orleans eateries. It's not what if consider fancy, but fancy wasn't what we were looking for. We wanted and received great food and a memorable dining experience. When we get there and are seated, no one came to see us for about 10min. We ask a waitress if she can find our waitress and the lady that comes to wait on us had seen us sitting there because she had previously walked by our table about 2-3 times. When she comes we are already ready to order and has an attitude while taking our order and through out the entire meal. She slammed the bottle of malt vinegar on the table, spilled water on the bread while pouring it, and rarely came to check on us. She didn't even make sure that we had everything when our meal arrived; I never even got my salad that came with the meal. When we asked her for more stuff, she would try to leave so quickly even before we were finished with our requests so we had to keep asking for things. When it was time for the check, we put the credit card in the holder and then she took it and brought it back so we figured she ran the card. However, she didn't bring a receipt back to sign. My elderly aunt said that's how her card works and you don't have to sign a receipt. When I question the waitress about it she says oh, I didn't see it so I didn't run it. She asks for the card again and my aunt gets very upset because she thinks that they are trying to run it twice. The whole ordeal and experience was horrible and I will NEVER bring my family to this restaurant!!! My aunt was so mad that she thinks people at Babins are incompetent!! First time here. Bland at best. Unfortunately for them, Pappadeaux is the gold standard and head and shoulders above Babin's. Ordered the Black Drum, broiled with Babin's sauce. The sauce was watery and bland. The fish was mediocre. The fish didn't stand on its own and the sauce couldn't carry the fish. Everyone seemed to enjoy the fried food, though. Also, I will admit that the chicken & sausage gumbo was great - best gumbo I've had in a restaurant. Sorry, Babin's. I'll stick to Pappadeaux. P.S. - Babin's only a half star below Pappadeaux?? I have visited this restaurant many times and I have enjoyed a wonderful dining experience most of the time. It is very important to plan my visit to this restaurant during off peak times or I will end up waiting a very long time for a table. I do not know why the hostess has to lie about the expected wait time because it has always been at least twice as long as they say it will be even with me flashing the Landry's Club Card. For that reason, I will absolutely avoid this restaurant during peak dining times. One time we had to wait 1.5 hours for a table and I was determined that this will not happened again and it hasn't. I have seen many people get up and leave because they got frustrated in waiting for a table. With this said, I have usually enjoyed an excellent dining experience once I was seated at my table. My party of five arrived at 4:45 PM on Christmas Eve and we had to endure a five minute wait. I did not understand the wait because I noticed a lot of empty tables while we were being seated in the back of the restaurant. My wife and I ordered the Frozen Hurricane and my daughter order the Louisiana Sunset. I warned my daughter about ordering drinks on the rocks at a Landry's restaurant because they put way to much ice in the drink. She informed me that I was right about way too much ice in her drink and she is going to order a frozen drink the next time so that she will not feel cheated out on her drink. We always enjoy the excellent bread that is served. I ordered the Mixed Grill Platter and I upgraded the fish fillet from the Tilapia to the Golden Tile. I really enjoyed my entree and it was more than what I should have eaten. The Greek Salad was excellent as well. My wife and daughter order the Maui Mahi and they both said that they enjoyed their entrees however they both wished they would have ordered something else. My oldest son informed me that he really liked the Shrimp Lafayette that he ordered and my youngest son enjoyed his usual Fried Shrimp and Fries dinner. Our server Alejandro made our dining experience very rewarding and it may have been the best service that we have received at this restaurant. We had no room for dessert so I asked for the check and we left as soon as we paid the bill. We sure were glad that we came early because we saw many people waiting for a table as we left. I sure felt sorry for all of the people that were waiting for a table because I knew that they will probably be waiting for a very long time. read more

The food has steadily declined at Babin's as has the service! The fried shrimp was like the kind you get at the grocery in the frozen food section and the fries were cold and old. Additionally, the order was not correct and the bill reflected an up-charge for the dish that was not received. The pan seared amberjack with mixed vegetables and asparagus was good. It's a shame the bad food overpowered the good! I could have gotten this meal from Long John Silvers. Tonight will be our final visit!!! read more

Had lunch with my mother yesterday and Babin's is always her choice! Her favorite dish is the Shrimp Scampi, which she swears is the best in town. I changed up a bit and had the Scallops. I thought they were delicious! Second best I have ever had. Maybe if the scallops had a nice crunch on the outside, it would've made the difference. The plate is service with the Scallops in a butter sauce. The sides are a play on a dirty rice and green beans. Nice combination, but would've preferred white rice. The Caesar salad here is really good. I think next time I will do the fried fish! But all in all, we will return another day. I always enjoy Landry's restaurants. read more

Was craving some oysters and gumbo so. Swing in for a bite of lunch. Oysters Rockefeller were spot on and juicy. Had the Ousters Bienville as well and they beat the Rockefeller. Finished off with the crawfish gumbo and that's where it just wasn't up to par. Very thin stock and under seasoned by a LOT. Second Landry's property I have had gumbo and disappointed. I wanted to reach out and voice my suggestions after one of the most horrible experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. This past weekend was mother's day weekend. Naturally, I wanted to take my mother out for a nice meal. I had been to Babin's just a few weeks prior and fell in love with the place. The service was outstanding, and the food was delicious. We had nothing but positives to say. We even talked your place up to my family in anticipation of mother's day weekend. We arrived about 1:30pm Saturday the 13th and were seated immediately. When we arrived, the place was about half way full. The first waitress was very loud and was very off-putting. She was clearly spread out very thin as it took her several minutes to finally get our order of drinks. When she did, she was cracking jokes to me directly about drinking. Piece of advice number 1: humor is a great tool, but read your customers carefully; I clearly didn't appreciate the first waitress. She had a big fake smile and the jokes weren't appreciated. On top of that, it was clear she couldn't handle all the tables she was attempting to help; she kept apologizing to other tables close by. When she came back and the drinks were wrong and incomplete, I decided that I would try to nip this in the butt and asked for a different waitress. I also didn't appreciate that she asked my mother on mother's day to help unload the tray of drinks. She asked for help, and I gladly helped; don't ask the mother who's out being celebrated to help. Not on that occasion. I requested one, and got a new one a few moments later. Our 2nd waiter was able to take our order within minutes and we continued waiting. The appetizer came to our table after about 25 minutes. I started to worry as the place was quickly filling up. The wrong order didn't show up until after 3 p.m. !!! This is where things got bad. The new waiter, without saying anything, took the plates away as he realized they were incorrect orders. Piece of advice #2: Maybe your wait staff would benefit from training regarding communication. Have the character to let the table that's been waiting for over an hour that their order was wrong. Don't just walk away. Piece of advice #3: Don't tell the table of people that their food is just a few minutes away from being served if your kitchen can't deliver on that promise. After the waiter walked away, I asked to speak with a manager. I asked the manager to have a sit and I immediately shared how upset I was. After sharing my concerns with her, we walked over to the table where family was sitting. The acting manager was very apologetic. At this point, I was very upset and asked my mom to decide whether she wanted to stay or go. As we are having this discussion, the acting manager takes the fork out of my mother's hand!!!!!! Piece of advice #4 Don't take the fork out of a customer who's in the middle of trying to decide whether to stay or go. Needless to say, we decided to leave. I offered to pay for the appetizer and drinks to which the manager said don't worry about it. During this entire time the acting manager kept apologizing and asked for my contact information saying she would follow up with me. I asked for contact information as well and we parted ways. Piece of advice #5: If your acting manager says they'll follow up, then follow up. It's Thursday of the following week and I've still not heard from her. Not because another apology will do, but because this reflects your character and professionalism. In summation, I'll share some of what I shared with the acting manager: You guys ruined our special occasion. If your wait staff don't want to be there; then don't be there. You guys provide more than just food, and wait staff do more than just serve. You guys provide EXPERIENCES. Good or Horrible. In our case, hands down, the worst experience we've ever had. You were clearly spread thin on this day. You don't get to the level that Babin's is at without being able to handle mother's day weekend traffic. I felt horrible that my mother put up with an hour drive just to get there to have such a trashy experience. I can't tell you how little I appreciate your establishment and it's staff for delivering this horrible experience. It's never okay, least of all in celebration of a mother. I have been going to Babin's seafood House since 2005, over 14 years. I have found the food to be of high quality and the service is normally very good. I attended tonight for the first time in several years to find out several changes have been made recently. One is that even with a price of $20-$30 per entrée, they have decided to charge an up charge for a small portion of scampi butter. It makes you think of McDonald's or Raising Cane's 1960 who try to make up for the relatively low-cost meal Buy a charging for their sauces. Additionally, since I am a Landry's select member they offer a $25 credit for you having a birthday. The problem is you must take advantage of that offer within a month or six weeks of your birthday or you lose it. Now rules are rules and I can live with the expiration date for the birthday reward but I still have a problem with an up charge for a butter with a $60-$70 meal, before tip. read more

I was very disappointed at this place. Ambiance is nice. Food was lacking in flavor and portion for the price. If I could remember correctly, I think our waiter was Paul. Let's say service wasn't attentive and seems selective. It was not a busy night, at least it did not seem so. We started off with the spinach dip and raw oysters. It was good in flavor. No complaints there. My son had the chicken tenders with fries. The chicken tenders could use some seasoning and the fries could use less. I ordered the Big Easy shrimp platter but got the beer batter shrimp and fish instead. Yuck, I personally do not like this kind of batter. It was greasy and I didn't send it back because it already took awhile to get the food. Our water refill came right before we requested the check. I scraped the batter off the fish. Couldn't do much with the shrimp but dipped it in ketchup and I usually do not do this. Couldn't eat the fries and onion rings because the greasy fish was sitting on top of it and the fries and onion rings were soak in oil and soggy. My best friend had the fried shrimp and fish platter. It was good but she ended up seasoning her food. I will pass on this place. I think Willie's down the road is better in service and food when it comes to flavor, price, and portion. read more

I went in during lunch with my coworkers. When we walked in, the interior was very beautiful and we got very excited that we found this hidden gem. It was packed, so I had a feeling we were going to be there for a while. Hoping to take an hour lunch it ended up being two, so take my advice and don't go there for lunch if you're on a time crunch. I ordered 1/2 Catfish po-boy and creamy crab bisque from the lunch menu. For appetizers, I ordered fried green tomatoes. The catfish po-boy had no flavor, I took two bites and decided to stop eating. The creamy crab bisque was okay, but it wasn't my favorite. As for the friend green tomatoes, that was actually pretty good! I did get to try my coworkers Rockefeller oysters, now I'm not a fan of oysters, BUT it was damn good. if you like oysters definitely check this place out. We've been coming to Babin's for several years and have always had good meals with generous portions. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is the wait staff NEVER seems to keep a water glass or tea glass full and this is after having been here again and again over 8 yrs. This would be solved with a dedicated beverage server. The place is a bit noisy but fun. This time the hostess needed a lesson in less is more on make up, she looked dressed for Halloween and NEVER SMILED! BUT my redfish topped with crab was excellent. We got the calamari for appetizer, wife got a fried mixed plate and I got craw fish 1/2 and 1/2. The 1/2 is boiled crawfish tails and the other half is fried. Calamari was ok, not the best, which is sad since its such a simple dish. Her plate was ok, but fried food has such a similar taste with one another it doesn't stand out. Mine was decent, but very rich and heavy. The only good thing we did taste was the fish from the fish and chips. It was the only thing worth ordering. The waiter finally showed 23 min from the time we were seated. He asked if we were ready and my girlfriend told him that she had questions. The waiter said the information is on the card and walked away before she could finish her question. We tasted the tea and it was spoiled. Ended up walking out but not before talking to the manager.
