We started off with the goat cheese cigars, and I have to admit, while they were delicious (and probably the best part of our meal) I did not think they were worth $8. Maybe if they gave you 4 or 2/person, but one cigar for $4 seems steep. This is in uptown, but it is the grown up side of uptown, not frat daddy central. So don't let that deter you from heading out. I did like that they had happy hour specials on the weekend, and hookah for $18. The patio was small but all that was necessary, really. Great for a nice day especially with all the other surrounding shops and restaurants. Both my husband and I ordered the chicken shawarma. It was tasty but not something I would come back for specifically. The service was pretty slow for how many people were there, but since I was outside in a nice day I couldn't complain too much. When I first checked in on Yelp they gave us an offer for a free glass of wine. The server was very nice and attentive and checked in on us from time to time. Great little place in the West Village. They serve nice and creamy Hummus, which starts you off nicely to a delicious meal . We went for lunch and had the dip platter, which normally also comes with olives, but since neither my wife nor I like olives we asked if they can just leave them off. They were nice enough to not just leave them off, but as a replacement add more hummus. Very nice. The only negative I can think of regarding the dip platter is that the bread wasn't nearly enough for all the delicious dip, but additional portions of bread are only $2 so it's not a big deal. We also tried the traditional kibbeh, which were two big balls of fine well spiced ground beef and lamb fried in a light dough. We also had the Lamb shawarma and kefta street sandwiches, which both came with a side of thin fries. Both were quite big and very tasty. They had a nice spicy tang to them with their basic ingredient (either the beef or the lamb) coming through nicely. The service was throughout were friendly, accommodating and attentive. Altogether it was a very pleasant and tasty experience. We'll definitely go back when we're in the area. read more

We had a coupon so we decided to give it a try, went for dinner on a Wednesday night. We like Mediterranean food a lot, and we were not disappointed. The flavors were excellent, and surprisingly, the portions of the small plates are pretty big so we over ordered. We started with hummus and babaganoush as appetizers. The portions were large so we were pleasantly surprised. It was probably the best hummus in Dallas that I have had in a very long time. The flavors were well balanced and overall it was excellent. The babaganoush was also excellent and the wife loved the smoky flavor with a little heat. For the main courses we got falafel, chicken pastilla cigar, lahm bill ajeen, and the wife got lamb chops. We topped it off with an order of basmati rice, which is a la carte. Everything was excellent, but the chicken pastilla cigar was not my favorite, kind of dry and it needs a sauce or something. That is the only thing I would not order again. We ate less than one-half of everything and so we had tons of food to take home. The service was warm and accommodating, although a bit slow, or one might say, a relaxed pace which is how they do things in the Mediterranean. No complaints. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would return, although next time we will know to order much less. read more

WOWZA! I am in love with this place! The atmosphere, the staff, the food. . .everything! If you don't believe me just ask my boyfriend who keeps asking when we can go back! Our server was extremely nice and accommodating without overstaying his welcome (if you know what I mean) and although we started ordering our drinks 5 minutes before Happy Hour stopped he allowed us each to get 2 drinks with the Happy Hour prices ($5 for a VERY strong Arabesque Oasis Sangria mmmm). We ordered the Moroccan Olives (which I barely got to eat since my man hogged the whole plate lol) and the Fez Chicken Tagine (this is the plate I hogged!) as well as the Basmati Rice. I'm usually not a fan of Basmati Rice but WOW has my mind set changed. Everything was just so perfect. After sitting outside for about an hour just soaking everything in I think I started to get wrinkles on my face from smiling so much. I will be coming here again and again and again. . .hell I might move to this area just so I can be within walking distance! The food was good but not a WOW for me. Here's our dinner experience: Casablanca Mint Tea Martini Very refreshing! I would come back for this drink!!! Hummus with Pita Bread I must say this was the best Hummus I had so far. It was really creamy and full of flavor. Falafel with Tahini Sauce I did not care for it at all. I cannot compare this dish as this is my first time trying Falafel. Grilled Lamb & Beef Kebab We order the Grilled Lamb Kebab and Grilled Beef Kebab. Both of us prefer the Lamb Kebab over beef. The lamb was juicy; whereas the beef was a bit dry. Both kebab dishes came with grilled veggies. We ate all the veggies versus the meat. Service: Right after my boyfriend and I walk in, 3 other guests follow behind us. The waiter came by and asked who came first. The lady behind us kindly pointed at us. He began to ask us how many people, so I told him two. At the same time he ask the party behind us how many in their party (which make sense). When the guest told him they had reservation for 5, he then completely ignore us and waited on them. Reservation or not, he should have seated us and then seated the reservation. Our servers were very friendly. A nice lady came and took our order and another waiter took care of us after that. He accidently charged us for dessert we did not order. I was going to tell him when he came back for the check but he already knew and apologized even before I can mention it to him. OVERALL ... I'm giving this place 3 Stars as it did not reach that WOW or delicious factor in a restaurant. The food of choice we had was OK. Maybe it was just what we ate. Of course we will come back. *this is solely rated on the Hookah* My boyfriend and I didn't have to wait long (approx. 8 mins) for a table out on the patio. The wine and hookah were served quickly too, mind you this is a Friday night. We ordered the Mobster which was a pleasant, more pineapple flavored sheeshah. Unfortunately, the hookah didn't have a whole lot of air flow (the tubes are cheap plastic). Even the coals are tiny and didn't provide enough fire to burn the sheeshah correctly. Now I'm not a hookah expert by any means, but I've smoked enough to know they use, all lower quality hookahs. On the plus side, great atmosphere and scenery. My wife and I recently tried Baboush for the first time, and we were pleasantly surprised. As a bit of background, we loved Souk, the Moroccan kebab house in Trinity Groves, and we were crushed to learn it had closed. Fortunately, Baboush is run by the same owner and executive chef, Yaser Khalid, and it features a similar menu. We were able to revisit some of our favorites including the mezze platter and the apricot lamb tagine. It was just a delicious as we remember. The ambiance isn't quite as intimate as Souk's, but that may be because we were there for lunch. If you're in the Uptown area, do yourself a favor and give it a try. Yummy yummy yummy is all I have to say. This place is pretty much tapas style. We ordered: Platter to share, Beef kebabs, shrimp kebab, chicken kebab, and Traditional kibeh Platter to share included their market mixed olives, hummus, Morrocan sweet tomato, and babagonush? My favorite of everything (skipped the olives though since I don't like olives) is the hummus. The hummus is more creamy and melt in your mouth with every bit. The sweet tomato is yummy and had more of a tomato paste texture. The baboganush is by far yummy! Beef kebab exceeded our expectations and came on two skewers of about 3 chunks of beef on each. The Sauce accompanied well with the beef kebabs which was the Greek yogurt mix. The traditional kibbeh was very tasty and Ended our meal well for the two of us dining. We had the giltcity deal and they were nice enough to honor it with us ordering the remaining kebabs to go. The chicken kebab was good when I ate it the next day but did not care for the plain Greek yogurt with it. So I dipped it in the sweet tomato sauce that accompanied the shrimp kebab. However I was pretty disappointed in the shrimp kebab since it came with only 4 small shrimp that cost $12. Especially when our whole night everything seemed priced low for what food you got. Especially if it's a long weekend, and it happens to be your birthday! :) We wanted something different than salsa dancing this time (sorry, Gloria's, we do still love you), and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food piqued the fancy of this mostly vegetarian group! Located in hoppin' West Village, we decided to eat inside, although enjoying hookah was outside only. Exotic interior, with lots of red tapestry and pillows and a very Marrakesh feel. Drinks went along with this theme: hints of cardamom, mint or spice in almost every one. I had a "Lebanese Night." It was sweet, refreshing and perfect. We started off with a mezze -- lots of fresh pita wedges with baba ganoush, tahini, hummus and a couple of large falafel. Very tasty, but not quite enough, so we ordered some dolmas, couscous, a tagine and some more falafel. All good! Halfway through our dinner, we were entertained by a really talented belly dancer! Other guests joined her and tried to imitate her amazing moves, but we were content to watch them take center stage. Someone tipped the staff that we had a birthday girl, and our meal ended on sweet note, with spiced sweet tea and a complimentary caramelized creme brulee with fresh rasperries and blackberries. You haven't been to uptown until you have been to Baboush and seen Henry and experienced this wonderful restaurant. The drinks are top notch. We love the Margarita, and the Sangria. Always start with the Mezza platter if you love home made hummus, olives, babagsnoush, and Harrisa Lebneh. All the Tagines are excellent and the steak is amazing. Don't forget dessert. Came here for dinner a few nights ago - and were really disappointed with our meal and service. But they definitely made it up to us with an offer of a free meal at lunch today. The chicken shawarma was excellent with tasty fries and the lamb burger was well-made with tangy goat cheese complementing the gaminess of the lamb. Although I've had better shawarma in general- I have to say this is the only place to fulfill a shawarma craving in Uptown. More than that - my 5 stars are because of the exceptional customer service. Excellent apricot lamb tagine, must have item on the menu. Meat was so tender and had a wonderful full bodied flavor. The beef medallion was great too, but would recommend the tagine over the medallion. The cucumber delight cocktail was also amazing and the creme brulee was delicious!
