Summary: beautiful, intimate, cozy, setting, but the food is just ok. Went the aesthetics of the place is gorgeous. The Moody lighting made the space feel very intimate and close. Good for groups where you want to be able to hear, not a lot of background noise, bouncing around. Our our waiter was good. Very responsive, especially when we had a large group. The food was just OK. I had the steak fretes and the onion soup. The onion soup was excellent, it came in a cute little bowl, very reminiscent to what you can actually get in France. The steak fretes was on the small size. I didn't love the sauce on the meat, and the fries were really salty. The greens on the side were also salty - not even a real salad. Just tossed greens. For the price, I expected for the proportions to be a little bit larger or more filling. We went some friends here and had a great time! I got the burger which has a kind of sauce poured over it. The sauce makes it hard to eat like a normal burger. Unless you are trying to get really messy it's easiest to eat it with a fork and knife. However the burger was very tasty and I would order it again. Everyone else seemed to like their food! I ordered the mushroom risotto and it was absolutely the worst risotto I've ever had and our server recommended it when I asked if it was good. It was undercooked, dry and chewy. Not only that it had stale or old shaved truffles on top that were tasteless. I had to actually add salt and pepper to the dish. I should have sent it back but I was with a group of people and didn't want to cause a problem. Frenchie should be embarrassed to serve that. read more

I had the opportunity to visit Frenchie for the first time recently and had a pretty good time at dinner with my friends. Frenchie as been on my list for a while and I was excited to check it out. The interior was very chic, polished and clean. It looks like a great place for brunch or lunch as well! We were a large group of about 8 girls and we were able to easily make a reservation, get a large table to accommodate us, and pay with separate checks. For drinks, everyone ordered a variety of cocktails and wine, including the Frozen Espresso Martini, which was the best! I asked our waiter for a mocktail recommendation and he suggested the Pasteque Cooler. I am a fan of fruity drinks and unfortunately, this one did not hit the spot. It is made with lime, watermelon and cucumber, and all I could taste was the cucumber, it was not sweet at all. However, I would love to try the Frozen Espresso Martini during my next visit! For appetizers, we spilt the French Bread & Butter and the Gougéres. The bread and butter was a classic French baguette and was actually a little dry, but the butter was excellent. The Gougéres are cheese puffs and were actually very light and tasty. For our entrees, I ordered the Cajun Salad and everyone else ordered either the Beef Tartare or the Steak Frites. Our waiter told us the chicken was overrated, however, I actually really enjoyed the blackened chicken in my Cajun Salad! It came with the blackened chicken on top of lettuce, avocado, cherry tomatoes, and cucumbers, all topped with Dijon mustard dressing. It was a light but delicious salad the the blackened chicken was actually my favorite food of the night. My friends enjoyed the Beef Tartare and Steak Frites as well. They said both were good, but smaller portions than expected. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and I would be interested in returning for brunch or lunch instead. I definitely want to try the Frozen Espresso Martini and check out their dessert menu. I could tell the staff was still working out some kinks, as it is a new restaurant. Great new french restaurant in Preston Center! I made a resy and came with a friend for dinner. We were greeted and seated pretty quickly. The ambiance is lively, and very cute. French bistro vibes, not too formal and not too casual. It's definitely on the louder side, not a place for a quiet intimate date. The menu has something for everyone's taste. Greta cocktail and drink menu as well. What we ordered: 1. salmon carpaccio- very good, my fave. 2. chilled shrimp and avocado- the sauce was a little too much, creamy and not your typical shrimp cocktail. 3. steak frites- came out a little over cooked. 4. beef tartare- large portion, yummy. 5. broccoli rabe- cooked perfectly. 6. raspberry and strawberry sorbet- so good! Finally tried this cute, newer place which has only been open a few months, I think? The decor is beautiful and it's in a prime location with plenty of shopping nearby. With that said, there's obviously still some kinks to work out but this place has loads of potential. We came early ~8am and there was plenty of seating available so we could sit anywhere. We ordered a few things for the table to try and the big hits were the croissant and the Avocado toast. They bake everything in house and I would for sure come back for more pastries. The rest of the food took a little bit longer and was pretty standard. I was slightly concerned that the fire alarm went off twice (with the first one being for at least a few minutes). It would've been nice to have some acknowledgement from the staff as everyone wasn't sure if we were supposed to evacuate or stay seated or what. I did the latter in hopes it was a test but communication is always key. The drinks definitely took longer. I love love love that the barista checked in on how my matcha was since he hasn't had to make many and it was delicious. More importantly, it shows how eager the staff is to keep improving. We went here for dinner last night. Food was delicious. The escargots were perfect ; each was big and not chewy. Steak Frites and Cajun chicken were delicious. The chicken breast was moist and not dried. I tried not to eat French fries but these pomme frites were so good. We had the roasted cabbage and they were different and yet very delicious. OMG, the crème brûlée was on point! The caramel top layer was thin and crunchy and the custard inside was light and not too sweet. We have eaten a lot of crème brûlée and by far, this is the best. The service was superb thanks to Sam; he was very attentive to our needs and his recommendations were correct. We highly recommend this French restaurant and will be back. read more

Problem was she utterly abandon us after food was served. No beverage refresh, no requested mustard ever showed up. No help at all. She finally showed up to give us the check. New french joint? Time to try it out. Came by for a little happy hour and it was ehhhhh. The decor and vibe of Frenchie is nice, it definitely looks the part and feels very inviting and bright. Your Instagram photos will turn out fine. The drinks are ok, nothing to write home about. We tried some escargot and the bread and butter. Not bad, the escargot was cooked well but something seemed a little off with the seasoning. The bread was warm and the compound butter tasted good, but unfortunately it took about an hour to get. I'm going to guess our waiter completely forgot about it and didn't realize until other food orders were put in. Maybe I'll return in six months and see if they've got the kinks worked out but for now, there's nothing Frenchie offers that's making me want to come back. read more

Had dinner here last night. Overall, a good experience--but there are still a few kinks to work out. That said, I'm stoked to come back in a month or so and see how things have progressed. For reference: two people, two drinks each, two apps, a burger, and a Cajun chicken entrée came out to $200 after tax and tip. That's pretty standard for Dallas, but at $100 a head for upscale casual dining, I do have certain expectations--especially when it comes to consistency and quality. We started with the salmon crudo and the escargot. The salmon was excellent--fresh, bright, well-balanced. The escargot, on the other hand, could've used more garlic to really stand out. For mains, we had the Burger Au Poivre and the French chicken. The burger was packed with flavor--definitely one of the more unique burgers I've had in Dallas (and I've had plenty). The drawback? The bun. It was a bit tough and stale, which prevented it from soaking up that peppery au poivre sauce and really becoming something special. I ended up ditching most of the bun and using the fries to mop up the sauce instead. With a fresher bun, that burger would easily go from a 6 to an 8+. Unfortunately, temperature was an issue across the board. The au poivre sauce was lukewarm at best, and the French chicken--and its fries--came out the same way. Big flavors, but lacking heat, which dulled the overall impact. Still, I'd absolutely go back. If this were a $120 dinner, I might not nitpick, but for $200, it's fair to expect tighter execution. The menu is solid, and I'm already eyeing the classic burger, steak frites, and some of the salads for lunch. This spot is within my 2-mile circle, so I'll definitely be back. Just hoping they work out the kinks and it becomes a place I crave as much as Il Bracco, Hudson House, or Claremont these days. read more

I would bet my last baguette they have not. Here are the lowlights: Escargot: Straight from a jar, possibly the same jar used in a middle school science class. Zero flavor, unless "wet cardboard" counts. Steak frites: Tough, bland, and apparently cooked by someone who thinks sous vide is a character from Star Wars. Absolutely inexcusable. Roasted cod: Inedible. The curry tasted like it came from the shelf at a gas station, and the leeks had the texture of a garden hose. Two stars for the bread and butter, mainly because they seem to be the only items not destroyed in the kitchen. Everything else ranged from tragic to criminal. This place is a waste of square footage and a full-blown culinary catastrophe. Never returning. read more

Nice space, 2 gorgeous bars. Hostess/seating seemed very confused. Service was competent and friendly. Highlight of the meal was the (pricey) chickpea fritters. Bread and butter was nice, but at $7 or $8 it should be. Draft beers were served in 12 oz? glasses with no head and about 3/4 short of full. Pea risotto was slightly undercooked, runny and did not have a whole lot of flavor. An added piece of grilled chicken, $12, was nice. At $60 a head including tax and tip the value just wasn't there. We were waiting for this restaurant to open and we were not disappointed! As French people, we found it really pleasant to rediscover the French atmosphere. With tables, chairs and colors. The menu is very varied and offers a lot of choice. We ordered the country pâté as an appetizer, steak tartare and mussel fries as a main course, then a chocolate fondant and café liégeois for dessert, and everything was delicious! In addition, the staff gave us a really warm and attentive welcome, the waitress was very attentive and smiling, and the managers came to welcome us and make sure we had everything we needed throughout the dinner. Loved it! Service was totally on top of things, from the big smile from the hostess when we arrived, to the manager visiting tables and genuinely interacting with patrons. And we were impressed with the food as well. My sis had the Nicoise salad, and it was a unique and stellar version, with gorgeous, ruby-red seared tuna. Mom's salad was a bit short on the advertised hearts of palm, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. I went with the roasted cod, and it was yummy, with the fish perfectly cooked. We chose the deviled eggs and gougeres for the appetizers, and they were stellar as well, with the eggs being a unique presentation with their green, tarragon-infused yolks. I'm visiting my hometown, and that usually means new restaurants every time I'm in town. But I can see us returning to Frenchie as there are more dishes I want to try. read more

I think we ate here the second day they were open, so I have to give a little grace to working out the kinks. That said, it's still a solid 2 stars for me for now (Yelp's definition of that rating as "could've been better" sums it up nicely), and not a spot I'm dying to return to. The ownership team is very experienced (sister restaurants include Le Bilboquet, Georgie, and Knox Bistro), and I think the opening here generally reflected that. Service was fantastic, maybe even a little too attentive (I lost track of how many times various manager-type males checked in on us). Our waitress was wonderful and was able to give descriptions of everything we asked about on the menu. Were those descriptions always accurate? Mmmm...well, I wouldn't describe the Rose Chartreuse cocktail as "strong," but luckily I know enough about cocktail ingredients to decide I wanted it, regardless of slightly inaccurate guidance. While on the topic of cocktails, though, I will say that my friend's Manhattan was pretty weak too...almost tasted watered-down (yet it's not on the menu, so I'm guessing it wasn't batched, which just makes this perplexing). Also, my cocktail (the Rose Chartreuse) was served with a faux leaf garnish that the waitress warned me was inedible. What?! There are so many options for beautiful, edible cocktail garnishes. Any chef worth their salt will tell you that inedible garnishes (whether on a plate or a cocktail) are inexcusable. Once I plucked out the inedible garnish floating in it, the Rose Chartreuse was lovely and not at all strong, but also not quite at the point where I'd actively describe it as "weak" like the Manhattan was. The bar program at Frenchie seems to be swinging and missing on multiple levels, frankly. Despite being styled as an all-day French cafe, there is no flânerie at Frenchie. You're asked to order all courses at once, rather than letting you relax and linger and order whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it. To add insult to injury, although the waitress promised she would "course everything out," and although we specified wanting the gnocchi as an appetizer (at our waitress's suggestion, no less!), both the gnocchi and the salad arrived simultaneously. Between hot gnocchi and presumably freshly-seared tuna on the niçoise salad, obviously you have to eat the gnocchi while it's hot and just let the salad fester for a bit. Simply put, presentation of two courses at once was annoying and felt rushed. Yes, I understand that this is Dallas (Preston Center no less) and that tables have to be turned over frequently to make a profit. But with Frenchie branded as a casual French bistro, an "all-day eatery & bar" (stamped right on the building AND on all the plates), the requirement to order everything all at once irritated me even more than usual. I will say that we weren't rushed to leave, but it is a bit odd when the waitress brings the check face-up on the table yet says we can still order more wine if we want. This brings me to the wine. By the glass, the wine list is incredibly disappointing. There is a SINGLE French red by the glass. So, we both ordered it for our main course (steak frites). The glasses arrived, and we took a sip, and...holy shit, it was bad. I mean, it was BAD. It was corked (later confirmed by the staff) and, perhaps even more disturbing, it was HOT. So much so that when I asked my friend what she thought of the obviously corked and foul wine, the first thing she said was, "It's hot." Yeah, so...we sent it back, and the staff was very apologetic and said they would find a new bottle that was refrigerated. Um...yes, please. (I didn't ask but do wonder how on earth they're storing their wine collection.) Our next glasses of the same wine were a more appropriate room temperature, AND that new bottle clearly wasn't corked, so it was drinkable. But we didn't get our new glasses until the steak frites had gone cold, and nothing was comped. Let's quickly discuss the food. Gnocchi doused in gruyere and bechamel is obviously going to be delicious. But the niçoise salad was weirdly bland and sparse, especially for it being advertised as an entree (I would be STARVING if I ordered this for an entree). The steak frites were similarly uninspired; the flavor simply wasn't there. We even asked for ketchup for the fries (sacré bleu!) because they were so bland. Crème brûlée to finish was, well, crème brûlée...again, a safe dish where you can hardly go wrong, but also nothing to write home about. After starting with the safe-bet gnocchi, and with that having been the only dish that was truly enjoyable, we decided to end on another safe bet. The interior of the restaurant is stylish, as Dallas demands, although the chairs are not particularly comfortable -- hard and straight-backed, likely another strategy to encourage turnover rather than actual French-style lingering over a glass of wine and some leisurely bites with friends. Recently went to Frenchie for the first time. Outstanding service. Restaurant hostess, manager and wait staff were all delightful. Drink list is fun with a very refreshing drink called the Lt. Blueberry. Frenchie has a great patio for outdoor drinks and dining. Croque Monsieur sandwich and pomme frites were delicious. The frites were especially good, thinner cut and perfectly cooked...not mushy but not overcooked either. Some sushi appetizer selections on the menu look good. You can tell this restaurant is still new and working through some growing pains, especially when it comes to staff training and the outdoor setup. I originally booked a table indoors since it is summer and quite hot out, but we were seated in a partially indoor outdoor space that was still warm and noisy from the fans. It was not the comfortable experience we were expecting. Not a great start to the night. Service also needs fine tuning. Several times, our server removed my food and drink before I was finished, without asking. A simple question like "Are you still working on that?" would have been appreciated. The use of the electronic ordering pad felt a bit awkward too, especially when it came time to pay. For a place in Preston Center, it would feel much more appropriate and refined to drop the check in a book rather than having us tip directly in front of the server while he holds the device. Very awkward. They should also rethink the table layout. The space is too cramped, and I watched an older couple struggle to get out from their table without bumping into others. It felt inconsiderate and poorly planned. The bright spot of the night was the food. Both the branzino and steak frites were excellent. This is a perfect little find. We got lucky to sit outside. We went about 4pm on a Friday since we were out shopping so we had their dinner menu. This place is super cute and would be great for a date night. The chef has worked at Michelin restaurant French laundry. Let me just say you can tell by the cooking. The prices are what you expect them to be so if you want it a bit cheaper go for lunch but honestly the food and service was fantastic. Restaurant is just beautiful! Perfect balance for all day French Cafe. Amazing hostess, servers and management team. We arrived at 4:00 on Saturday of 1st weekend of opening. We started with Shrimp Avocado appetizer. It was superb. Lovely presentation, wanted more! Beef Tartare was delicious, I should have ordered a side of bread with it. Nice portion but had it once will explore other items. My Darling Daughter had the Orecchiette Chicken pasta. She wished for more depth in dish. I thought it was really a nice balance and generous portion. The chicken was grilled to perfection. The Peach Melba dessert was the perfect end to the meal. It was so complex with different textures. peaches were off the charts with ripeness. Highly recommend it. It really completed our experience. The crowd was super fun to watch and listen to ... a lot of Dallas socialites and families. People lingered and seemed to have a delightful experiences. Other top restaurant owners were there checking it out. We were encouraged to order all at once and they would course everything out. She did just that. The food at Frenchie is great - everything we have tried has been delicious! We also love the service and have always been very well taken care of. However, the noise level is out of control at dinner time. We have stopped by twice for dinner and both times have had to leave because we are having to yell over the noise and it is extremely unpleasant. Even the hostess and I could not hear each other.
