This was a pleasant surprise. A small intimate local place with a lot of specialty pizzas that were worth noting. 1st let me say that we were 3 families at a vacation rental from Connecticut and California, 13 people in total, so we called ahead to make sure they could accommodate us. And when we arrived, they had tables pushed together with exactly 13 chairs waiting for us. It's not huge in ambiance, small but tastefully decorated with historic New York Yankees pictures of Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, etc. The service was terrific with Karen (a friend of Babs) doing everything she could to make sure we were feeling welcome and satisfied. True small town hospitality at its best. Beer is in the cooler past the imaginary line where you are supposed to go, the opener is behind the cash register, help yourself and we will figure it out later. Karen was a terrific hostess, friendly and fun and made us all feel comfortable. The pizza was terrific. We started with a Bin of salad, large enough to serve all 13 of us. Dressing was served family style in bowls. It was terrific, fun and effective. Then we moved onto three orders of cheesy garlic knots. It was a perfect amount but I could have made a meal out of these alone. We ordered 4 pizzas. 3 of them were specialty pizzas off of the menu, the Greek, the balsamic bomb and the yuppie and had to take plenty home. We all agreed they were terrific, but I have to say my favorite was the yuppie. One of our group (a smarty pants college student) realized that all we had to do was eat 2.5 slices each and that we didn't finish meant that some were not pulling their weight. I think I speak for our entire group when I say that if we were back in the area Babs would be in the list of places we would make sure we didn't miss again. Thank you! read more

I grew up in NY/NJ, and even spent time working in a pizzeria. I've eaten pizza all over the globe, from Rome to Korea, (to Iraq even!). To say "I kinda like pizza..." is a massive understatement. Hands down, I feel Bab's is the most authentic. New York style, fold-in-the-middle, hold with two hand slices of pizza you can find anywhere outside of the Big Apple. The pie is cooked in a traditional pizza stove, not some conveyer belt contraption that fries the dough in oil, leaving you with a crust that's chewy where it should be, crisp and flakey where it needs to be. The red sauce is well seasoned and the taste on point, time after time. The blend of cheese is consistent and abundantly present. If plain cheese isn't your thing, Bab's also doesn't overload your order with toppings causing the center to be under-cooked, leaving you an overcooked or soggy mess to eat like "that other place in town". Forget about those tiny Pizza chain sized boxes, with a large pie, Babs sends you off with dinner for four and lunch leftovers the next day. Well worth the money and the trip if you're local or visiting, but be sure to plan ahead for take out orders! IF there's a detractor, it's adding an extra 30 minutes when calling in your order on Fri and Saturday nights, often they'll need a longer lead time with orders stacking up on busy nights. Apologies! Came in for lunch on a Saturday. There was ONLY one employee to take and make the orders, plus clean the tables. The place was getting very busy, still no help for the young lady who was doing her very best to keep up with everything. We placed our order, but decided to leave since it was going take so long to get our food; not the fault of the ONE employee. Others in our group also canceled their order and left, with one person saying she did so because she wanted to take the pressure off the young lady that was working. Kudos to the young lady working as she had a great attitude despite her boss (owner) putting her in that situation. Shame on you owner for allowing this to happen; hopefully your employee walked out of your poorly managed establishment. First and last time in this place. read more

Totally delicious pizza with PERFECT crusts, delicious sauce, and generously applied fresh toppings at a reasonable price and a locally sourced beer/wine list? Yes, and totally worth finding the place tucked behind an office building off the main drag. This is one of those places that you will probably never find by accident--and that's a shame because the food is so good. Really nice people working there too. This was our first introduction to the Sandpoint food scene and it was a great one. Definitely recommend to those seeking good pizza from a local place. We are a soccer family and we travel all over the place. almost everywhere we go we find a pizza joint and get some pepperoni pizza.. this awesome little dive in Sandpoint ID. Is in my whole family's opinion the best peice of pie we have ever had.... Not only was the food excellent but the owner was great to. Babs pizzeria is one of the most friendly welcoming restaurants in Sandpoint. There pizza is outrageously delicious. Make what you want and how you want it. If something is not correct the owner Babs will make sure it gets taken care of and that your time there is enjoyable. Everytime I go to Sandpoint I have to stop by and grab a slice and pizza to bring back home with me. Try there garlic knots makes your mouth water. Highly recommend you go in and give it a taste. My girlfriend and I live in Sandpoint and had a nice 4th of July this year. The 4th is my girlfriend's birthday, so it makes the day even more special every year. We went for a picnic, did some shopping, and spent the evening watching Sandpoint's fireworks from the lake. The next day we were exhausted and decided to just hang out and watch Netflix. We ordered a pizza from Bab's. We asked for a large Canadian bacon with mushrooms and uncooked tomatoes; we also asked that the pizza be cooked lightly. The pizza arrived 45min later. The pizza was very brown and the bottom nearly burnt, the tomatoes were also cooked. We called to politely let them know of the problem. The owner answered and said she personally took our order and made the pizza. She said "lightly cooked" means different things to different people. I'd like to meet the people she thinks dark brown and hard means lightly cooked. She also apparently does not know the difference between cooked tomatoes and un-cooked tomatoes. She refused to remake the pizza and said "if I remade a pizza for every customer who was unhappy with it I'd go out of business." It sounds like she may want to rethink the quality of the product she puts out. She was very rude and said the only thing she was willing to do was take a couple dollars off our next order. We told her we wouldn't be coming back. She said "I'm sorry to hear that" and hung up on us without another word. We have been to Bab's many times and have always asked that our pizza be made this way. Those pizzas were made by the young girls that work there and each time the pizza was lightly cooked and perfect. Perhaps it's time for the owner to retire and do something else with her time. Her employees clearly have a better grasp of customer service and putting out a quality product. We will never go back to Bab's, Second Avenue Pizza (208-263-9321) will be receiving all our business in the future. What a disappointment Bab's has become. read more

Visited Sandpoint from Houston and Bab's was recommended by a lovely local. Ordered a mushroom pizza to be delivered and it arrived fast, hot, and DELICIOUS! Perfect crust, sauce was tangy and just the right amount of cheese. I wish there was a Bab's here in my hometown. It would definitely be our go-to pizza place! Delicious! I'm a picky pizza eater but this is the closest to NY pizza I've had in the area. The crust could be bubblier and crispier but we're in Idaho. This place was a nice surprise, hidden behind subway on the highway. Friendly folks but slow service. Stromboli was yummy. White pizza could have had more ricotta. Greek pizza was awesome. Beer available. Babs was present and friendly and working her butt off. Definitely a place to return. read more

My wife and I stopped by for some spaghetti. The meal was terrible. First of all, our side salad was frozen. We still had icicles on the lettuce and couldn't finish it. Then our spaghetti noodles were undercooked. We couldn't have more than a fork full without tasting the rawness of the noodles. Then our spaghetti meatballs were still cold inside. We asked for pizza instead, which they had no problem making for us as a replacement meal. I'm giving them 2 stars instead of one because they had no problem switching our meals. read more

Bab's pizza is one of the most delicious places to eat in Sandpoint. I would venture to say that it's a "do not miss." the Bab's herself made our pie and salad! For $25 you can get an 18" pizza that, with a salad ($7), easily fed 4. We all left with stuffed bellies. Staff (including Babs) are friendly, funny, and helpful. I will certainly be back! read more

I have ordered from Bab's quite a few times in hopes that it would get better.... not so much. Most of the food that we have ordered has been mediocre at best. Pretty bland, skimpy on the toppings, and usually under cooked. Hardly the best pizza in town, no better then Dominoes or Pizza Hut. And most the time they are out of sometime or don't have an item that is still on the menu... I mean, how hard is to update a menu that's printed off a copier... The food is so-so, but service is where Bab's really struggles. Every time the wait is really long. Employees right out front smoking or just standing around struggling to keep things straight. If the owner/employees actually treated the place like a restaurant and not like a hobby/hang out for teenagers, they probably do better business. We absolutely loved this pizza place!!! It is the BEST pizza in the whole Pacific Northwest until proven otherwise!!! It is made from scratch and you can see it being made, but most importantly it is the MOST DELICIOUS PIZZA!!! I would consider moving to this area JUST for their pizza! The staff is very friendly there!!! We ate a large pie inside, and loved it so much that we ordered another large pie to go!!! It was great even after cooling off and being re-heated!!! This is probably the worst pizza I've ever eaten! They were out of mushrooms and had to substitute with artichokes. What pizza place runs out of mushrooms?!? The crust was thin and soggy. Had to fight the flies to eat. At least keep the dead flies on the window sills cleaned up. Won't be back! read more

It is better than Pizza Hut but I was expecting better. The price is a little bit high but would have been acceptable if they had gotten the crust right and didn't use too much sauce. The crust should have a crackle texture to it but it didn't. (Watching them make pizza, I had expected it to have the right texture because they used a real pizza oven and bake the pizzas on corn meal/polenta rather than a conveyor type oven like Costco.) They also used too much sauce. Still, I think the place has potential. They just need to learn that so much sauce isn't desirable and how to bake the pizza so the crust has a proper crackle texture. If they fix these two things I would give it 5 stars. read more

Great pizza, less than stellar service. Pizza was great; good veggies, tasty sauce, crispy crust. Service sucked; sat there about ten minutes before the owner came over. We went up together but in between my order and my brothers they took two orders over the phone so our pizzas didn't come out together. But it was pretty fast so I can overlook the crappy order processing. No fountain so soda comes in cans or bottles. read more
