However our friend said the server will take your order with an iPad. So we waited. I showed the server what hubby & I wanted to order. Screenshots actually from the menu. But one of our two orders were wrong. Ordered - * I ordered garlic beef with fried egg over white rice in stone pot. * hubby ordered chow fun beef stew in curry sauce. Scan it, put entrees in the cart and submit order. The food comes to the table very quickly. I ordered: XO Roll Noodles: these were delicious. Some of the best I've had. Savory and tasty morsels of noodle rolls. Curry Chow Fun: I don't think I've ever seen this combo before but it was good. If you like curry and you like chow fun, it's a match made in heaven. The curry is flavorful. They said it was spicy but I didn't taste much spiciness. Spare ribs over rice with egg: the runny yoke going over the meat and rice was a nice blend of flavors. A surprising gem in San Leandro. This reminded me of the cha chan taangs of Hong Kong. The smell alone was enough to confirm how good the food was. In my short time in the area, I came here twice - the first for the baked minced beef with rice (a rice dish with tender beef slices in a yummy tomatoe sauce with an egg in the middle; it was a bit different than I expected - usually it comes with cheese - but the flavour was good) and the second was the beef chow hor fun, a classic Cantonese dish (this was done well, but I wish the noodles were a bit more fresh). Stopped by on a Thursday and it was pretty crowded inside at 8pm. They were closing early at 8:30pm this night, but we only came for dessert. The dessert menu isn't on their online QR code so we had to flag someone down for the menu. Then we had to flag someone down again to get tea, as we weren't served tea like the other patrons. Leisure Cafe was not our first time, but this time, the restaurant was packed and very busy. There were 6 of us and we had to wait for a table. Then a table opened and we squeezed in but the waitress asked us to move by putting 2 tables together. We were never given tea, plates nor a iPad menu. We ordered through the QR scan from the table. We sat there and had to ask for tea a couple of times before we got a pot of tea. Then we asked for plates/cups/utensils a few times, and finally waitress placed a stack at the end corner of our table and we had to self set our own place settings. The food came since we ordered by QR code; waitress just dropped it on the table. Throughout our lunch we had NO service and we had to ask several times again for refill of our tea pot. At the end of our lunch, we felt we didn't want to tip for services because we never received any service! As the last person in our party was walking out, the waitress stopped him and said we didn't pay enough. He did not know what was going on so he paid some more money to the waitress. So bottom line, they never gave us any service without us asking multiple times, but they could stop one of our people to get more money because they were not tipped for not giving service.? Came here on a late Saturday night, it was busy, but we were still able to get a table really fast. To order, you have to scan a barcode on your phone. This was a little difficult considering most items didn't have a photo associated with it, but we made do. The food was some of the best Hong Kong style food I've had in the area. We ordered the Baked Pork Spaghetti w Red Sauce, Baked Steak Spaghetti w Black Pepper Sauce, Curry Fish Balls, XO Sauce Rice Roll and two Red Bean w Fresh Milk. Although the fish balls and xo rice rolls were labeled as "snacks", the portion size was HUGE. I felt like they could've been entres by themselves! The actual fish balls weren't as textured as I like but the curry sauce was great. Both the spaghettis were super flavorful and again HUGE portions. Considering the price, we were getting two meals in one. Would definitely come back again with my family and see what they say about the food. Staying in Orinda, CA and wanted to try some of the close by (within 30 minutes drive) Hong Kong cafe style restaurants. Found Leisure Cafe in San Leandro and decided to try it. Parking is easy because it shares a big parking lot with Safeway and CVS. The interior is nothing spectacular, basic cafe type of vibe. It was around 12:30pm on a Sunday. The place was almost full but we were seated within a few minutes. We got one of those pink booths which didn't really go with the rest of the decor, but at least it was spacious and comfortable. We ordered Hainan chicken rice, baked pork chop with red sauce over rice, Portuguese style baked chicken over rice, stir fried tender greens, and a red bean drink. Service was friendly and efficient. Food came out surprisingly fast, especially for the baked dishes. The three of us shared everything family style. Portions were huge and the food was delicious. Hainan chicken rice was the standout, very generous amount of yummy flavored rice and good mix of chicken pieces (a whole chicken leg and a few pieces of chicken breast). The ginger sauce was also very tasty and not skimpy. Baked pork chop with red sauce over fried rice was very good. There were two pieces of pork chop and the sauce was tasty. Portuguese style baked chicken over rice was decent, it could use more coconut flavor. They used boneless dark meat and it was tender. The plate of stir fried tender green 清炒菜芯 was really huge and fresh, it was excellent. The red bean drink was not quite up to standard. It didn't seem like evaporated milk was used which's the norm. Prices were really good (the three rice dishes were all either $12.95 or $13.95) and we had enough leftovers for another meal! They do automatically charge a 15% service charge which is okay, they should mention it to customers though. Overall it's a very solid and reasonable Hong Kong style cafe. This place meets those requirements. Service was good for a Chinese restaurant (I don't expect too much of a service for Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants). I won't normally rate their service because there not much of service to speak for. I choose to dine these types of places for their food, not service. I am not sure if they renovated again or not, but I don't remember they had pink booths last time when I visited. The places looks trendy, but pink booths? This is based on one visit as we came here after dinner for dessert. The dessert menu is extensive which peaked our curiosity but when we had a hard time picking what to order. Not surprisingly, the waitress got frustrated and she was also unable to answer questions about the items we were considering. Then, she said most of these are premade and sent to the restaurant to justify her lack of answers. That should have been a big red flag but we still wanted to get dessert. Looking at the photo, the 'fresh' coconut was not that fresh as the coconut flesh had the pinkish tint and didn't taste fresh. There was also very little peach gum inside. It was about a half inch layer on top. The grass jelly is from a can as you can see the ribs on them from being inside a can so this isn't Meet Fresh quality. The food here may be good but I'd say skip the desserts. FYI, the owner of this restaurant also owns the T4 and sushi restaurant next door. Also, the waitresses are really nice here. They're the same ladies as far back as 2019, when I first started coming here. Steady staff means happy staff so management must be doing something right. Today, I wanted to try something different besides my usual baked pork chops, or curry beef brisket, or the oxtails.
