He made us fantastic drinks (the French 75 was especially good ) and he was a a delight to sit and chat with. Jarvis, one of the managers, was also fantastic! You'd be forgiven for assuming this is a mostly shitty tourist trap, considering its location in the heart of Midtown Broadway. We arrived with a tight schedule of two shows in one day and low food expectations. But Bacall's was much better than hoped and it's likely one of the best places to have dinner if you're headed to a show in the area (Into the Woods revival, anyone?). We sat at the bar and had excellent service and the surf and turf was delicious and perfectly cooked. There was a good wine selection and a great atmosphere for a couple of classic movie-philes. Only downside was a pianist that started bellowing Disney show tunes midway through dinner. Sitting right below one of the speakers didn't help, I'm sure, but it wasn't the most pleasant addition to the ambience. Highly recommend this place for a good pre-show dinner and wine! read more

Came during Christmas time for the Frosty Christmas Bar and we had Terrible service. Waited over 30minutes to be seated with a reservation. Food was basically cafeteria food. The Rigatoni was dry and had the most awful flavor, mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of a box and the braised beef was flavorless. Two people at our table ordered burgers and had to eat them DRY because no one came to offer condiments ( ketchup, mayo, or refill our freaking water!) Decor was beautiful but don't come here looking for fine cuisine because you won't find it. We sat for over 40 minutes waiting for someone to take our order and when she did come, she asked if we were going to order food or was just sitting. Must knows: - Check in on yelp to receive 25% off your bill if you finish dining between 8pm-10:30pm (We sat down at 7:37pm and finished two hours later) - Three course prix fixe dinner is offered for $46 (same menu is discounted to $42 for restaurant week) - 20% gratuity for large groups (we were a party of 9 so I'm not sure where the cut off is) which is calculated on the pre-discount subtotal Other than that, it is a conveniently located restaurant fit for large and small groups alike. It does appear it caters to the pre-theater crowd and the restaurant clears out between 8pm-10:30pm, hence the discount. Given our large party, we had a chance to try a variety of options but only the lobster & shrimp curry stood out. The bronzino, pig club, butch salad, and burger were ordinary. The short rib was disappointingly dry and the ribbon steak was not a good cut of meat. But this restaurant does not appear to pride itself as a food destination but rather as a convenient spot for transient theater goers. Value of the food after the discount seems slightly more fair. The cocktails at $18 each were at least done well. I enjoyed my whiskey smash and the strawberry fields and dotty were other popular choices for those with a sweet tooth. Visiting Bacall's was one of the best parts of my NYC trip. My friend and I stopped in to have a nice dinner on our last evening in the city and we were SO happy with everything. She enjoyed a NY strip while I chose the Prime Rib and we were both very impressed. The only thing that topped the food was the service! Our server Dale made us feel right at home and we had wonderful conversations. The manager, Akeem was so hospitable and made the experience even more memorable. The pictures on yelp from business owner are a little deceiving. First off this is a massive place. They have an upstairs dining area and a bar area with high top seating when you walk in. The vibe is chill and they gave trivial pursuit on the table for your enjoyment. I wouldn't say it is as fancy as the pictures show. It is still a nice place. They have high top seating for big groups and thats where we sat with 10 people. It wasn't crammed it was spacious and the service was good. The drinks are pretty standard. For being so close to time square it is a cool spot. Didn't think I would find a place like this in this area. The food was pretty standard bar food. We had the buffalo cauliflower and the flat bread. Both were solid happy hour food. My friend got the burger and liked it as well. I think its perfect for a group happy hour. It won't knock your socks off but it does the job. The dining upstairs could be a good option if you want a sit down dinner. 3.5 stars all the way but cant give half so bumping it to 4. read more

We felt like this place was an overpriced tourist trap, and the only highlight was the majority of the staff were professional. Our original waiter seemed to really hate his job though. I ordered the blue dream cocktail and it was extremely sour, not even a hint of sweetness and I couldn't even drink it. We tried to be nice about it, but our original waiter just argued that it's "supposed to be sour" and didn't offer any remedy. He was also extremely judgmental about how my friend wanted his steak cooked because my friend wanted his steak well-done, so the waiter told my friend he must like his meat "dry and tough". The irony is that he served my husband's steak bright red rare with a sight sear on the outside (when he ordered it medium rare). At some point, our original waiter was replaced and his replacement was so much nicer (hence 2 stars instead of 1). The cocktail was taken off our bill. Overall, the food was mediocre at best and the cherry on top was probably the weirdly sweet peppercorn sauce that was served with the steak. My husband and I went here for a birthday dinner for our daughter and while we were there it was Frosty's. The experience was gorgeous, every inch is covered in beautiful decor. There were elfs and the grinch which we had a lot of fun taking photos with. The food was delicious, we had a few appetizers and 2 entrees. The French onion soup was one of the best I've had. The meatballs were amazing, so tender and flavorful. The buratta was incredible! I'm still thinking about it. For Entrees we split the Theater Steak and then the Rigatoni all Vodka. Very generous portions and the steak was fork tender. Other things to note was the excellent service despite how packed the place was. Really recommend this place for a bite before a show or a bite before going down to their nightclub downstairs, Blue. We will return! read more

I'm so happy to have discovered this awesome restaurant in Times Square! Not only was the Old Hollywood vibe of Bacall's unique, but so was their menu. Being a steakhouse, there was obviously an emphasis on meat, but they still had a nice variety and some things I don't often see on menus, like sweet and sour wagyu meatballs. We ordered these for an appetizer and enjoyed them, though I do think they might have been a tad over cooked. Our prime rib and surf and turf were excellent, with the meat perfectly cooked on these, and I especially loved the horseradish sauce that came with my prime rib. Their cocktail selection was great, and it was tough to choose a dessert because they all sounded so good! We ended up choosing the 16 layer cream cake which was fantastic, and I don't even know how we had the room to finish it. I was glad that we made our reservation a bit earlier for 5pm - once it started getting busy around 6pm, the service definitely started to drop off a bit, but we were pretty much wrapped up anyway. The location first off is very close to the chaos of 42nd street so try to leave ahead of time to get to this location. The decor was absolutely beautiful. The service was decent we got seated right at the entrance and the waiter was ok, we ordered fries and it seemed he forgot about them during our whole meal - I know it's busy season so can't really blame him. The problem was we ordered the steak and it looked burned on the outside and bright pink on the inside - definitely not a medium well steak - I had to switch with my fiancé and I ended up eating the burger instead. The burger was juicy lots of onions but I was able to eat it. I love the environment lots of places to take pictures but definitely would skip eating here, I've had better elsewhere. read more

This is a real gem in the heart of midtown. The resident performer is a character--he had everyone up and dancing and laughing. People were literally dancing the horah through the restaurant So fun. If I could give this restaurant zero stars, I would do so. It started out really nicely, the restaurant is beautiful and spacious and it was a great pre-Broadway show reservation... Or so we thought. The restaurant was about a 10 minute walk from our theater so we thought we had plenty of time, and they claim to serve the Broadway theater crowd. Our appetizers were great and the server seemed friendly... But that's when things took a turn. We waited for another 30 minutes for our dinners, then we were told that the kitchen was running slow (despite the fact that the restaurant wasn't even half full) and our food would be out in another 5 to 7 minutes, even though we did not have time to wait for that and then take the time to eat. Another 10 mins went by while we tried for an opportunity to speak to the manager to get a little info or urgency on the situation, but when we finally got a hold of her she did not seem to be bothered by our predicament. We saw food being delivered to several tables around us that had sat down far after we had. I am quite certain that the server did not put our order in and was trying to cover up, but instead we ended up standing up and leaving without eating dinner before a 3 hour show. The biggest slight was that we were not comped anything at all - we still paid for our drinks and appetizers, despite the fact that we didn't actually get to eat our dinner - the manager was not interested in customer service AT ALL and did not apologize in any way. I will never go back and I will warn everyone I know not to go there when in the city. We managed to slide into our seats about 2 minutes before the show started. Seriously, do not go here if you want SERVICE. The food we tried was good, but not worth the experience we had. read more

Ordered $45 3 course prix fixe. Chose caesar salad which had tasty dressing. Half chicken fried chicken entree was crisp and moist, though slightly salty. Side of good thin fries.
