My friends and I came here after Jimmys (Please don't gotta there, if you want to know why, read my other reviews) In my years of living in NYC, I have never heard of this spot ! It has so much potential. The lighting and areas are nice. The drinks were just expensive, and the food menu on the tables weren't too great. The DJ was okay, he had his good moments and bad ones. Regardless I really do want to come back for a function that's marketed a bit better and see the outcome. Again nice space, a jack & coke was $17 which was the same price as a Henny and cranberry . Which doesn't make much sense to me. I'm not too sure if the place was just slow and up charging drinks or that's just the norm. read more

Being a New Yorker, I try to avoid times square area. Walking into The Ribbon, you completely forget you are in the busy touristy area - which was amazing. Totally didn't feel like touristy times square. Really big space. I love restaurants with high ceilings, makes it feel grand. They also have an upstairs and I believe a downstairs (blue bar.. I didn't go down there so don't have many details). Loved the big chandeliers and all of the décor. The menu is definitely a little pricey but the food would make the costs worth it. Also love their happy hour menu! $10 drinks? Yes please! Not to mention their happy hour starts at 8pm... most happy hours are over by 7pm. Would definitely come back for happy hour drinks with coworkers. I was here for the yelp elite event so some of the items we were served as pass arounds aren't currently on the menu, but I can say it was all DELICIOUS. Considering how many people were there, they were quick to serve and be ready to go to pass along beverages and apps with a smile on their faces. The buffalo cauliflower was one of the best I've ever, so good! If I have any friends in this area looking for somewhere to go, I will definitely recommend The Ribbon! read more

Bacalls is a great time! The staff was so kind and welcoming. The drinks were great and they have a vodka cart that rolls around which is so fun! The steak was incredible and the bone marrow butter really topped it off. The Mac and cheese was so creamy and the Shrimp Curry was fantastic! The shrimp comes highly recommended by the staff so we had to try and it was incredible! The meatball appetizer was a little dense but still the flavor was great! Perfect spot to go for dinner before catching a show! read more

Had a nice brunch today with Violet & Mariel here. Violet had the bacon burger with fries, delicious. Mariel had the fried chicken sandwich but she felt it was tough. I had the avocado toast with poached egg on top that was delish! The mimosas were out of site too. read more

Overall wonderful experience!! Delicious food, great service and wonderful atmosphere! My boyfriend and I were attending a play last night and chose The Ribbon because it was within walking distance of the theater. The staff was wonderful about making sure we had plenty of time to make it to our show. The food was delicious! We started off with the grilled avocado, delicious but spicy. I had the housemade ricotta cavatelli, which was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the braised short rib, which was falling apart it was so tender! We finished the meal with the chocolate bruno, deliciously rich (but not too rich) chocolate mousse accompanied with a scoop of ice cream and graham cracker crumbs! Highly recommend!! read more

Service is great, design is great, food is great, cocktails and wine list is great. The Ribbon is huge inside so when you find yourself needing a good meal in the Times Square area just make a reservation and its a great option. Here's what we tried: All 3 deviled eggs (fried oysters, smoked salmon, pickled peppers) Chicken Liver Mousse Caesar salad Chicken Cavatelli Lamb Chops Sticky Toffee Pudding The sticky toffee pudding was the only real letdown of the whole meal. If you've ever had sticky toffee pudding at Quality Meats you know how good this dessert can be. The one here is kind of dry, they could probably soak it in syrup or something to make it more moist, I don't know. If you're the chef reading this, go try the dessert at Quality Meats and up your game on this one. Otherwise, everything was spot on and so nice to have a new great option for dining in the Times Square area. read more

This Times Square incarnation of the packed uptown restaurant enters its second week in the restaurant space formerly polluted by Guy Fieri's third-rate fats fest that couldn't find a footing. I am happy to report that The Ribbon is going to be one of the best spots to eat in the Theatre District, with a couple of tweaks. The food is head-and shoulders better than the mass-market moo joints that make someone regret eating near their shows. They have a country pâté that is perfectly prepared, a raw bar, charcuterie and cheeses, elegant roasted meats, fish, and a touch of vegetarian fare. The Butchers' Salad is a meat lover's salad; American antipasto. They serve the best prime rib French Dip that I've ever had: Lean, without an oversized roll, griddled like a Cuban sandwich, with enough cheese to please but not so much fat to keep the meat a treat. Atmosphere is kind of hipster+, dark and full of retro lighting and wood and tile, it's both visually appealing and adds a little modern magic that the other Broadway mass-market premium-priced cattle pens like Sardis, treading on long-standing family relationships with a bygone Broadway, have lost. Prices, for Times Square, aren't terrible either. It's a welcome relief from the hands that are usually deep into your pocket. The bar is well stocked, but could be better. People come in after the shows for aperitifs, and I heard several requests turned away. They have only a couple of ports that are run-of-the-mill, and it cost them business. The bar is built for craft cocktails, yet the menu has a limited number of ideas because they have equally limited bartenders. This is an area where they need to tweak. They're nice, just not capable of working with the inventory, or the volume of people. I came before, and after my show. The back had to take my order before the kitchen closed because the bartender lost me in the post theatre bustle. Their hours need a touch of tweaking. Located near the top theatres, take a cue from Juniors and be open for people who eat leisurely after the show. As hip as your place is, who knows? You could be the next place where Broadway's titans hang out to see what the Times is going to to do their future after opening night. They have a club downstairs that hasn't opened yet, but that should add to the life of the place hugely. It's a great enough restaurant that you could want to come here even if you aren't in the neighborhood to see Timon and Pumba, rap revolutionaries, or the never-ending music of the night... read more

Decent dinner options in Times Square are generally scarce, so The Ribbon is definitely a hidden gem in the area! You wouldn't think you were in the middle of a touristy hub walking in! I came here before a Broadway show, and it's also conveniently located right by some of the major theaters. I decided to order from the prix fix menu, which is a great deal for dinner! A huge fan or anything cauliflower, I started with the buffalo style cauliflower, which had a good kick to it. For my entree, I had the lobster and shrimp curry, which came with a generous helping of both lobster and shrimp. The curry itself was more coconut-based than spicy, but tasty nonetheless! The highlight, however, was the dessert - wow, the monkey bread was some of the best dessert I've had in recent months! I don't even like ice cream generally (I'm weird, I know), but it paired really well here with the warm pieces of cinnamon-y monkey bread. Service was quick and efficient, as well. This place is a pretty solid choice in the theater district, which is really lacking a lot of good options. Good for groups too because it's huge and has a happy hour! I wasn't too impressed by any of the food options except the flatbread, which was really tasty. Their hibiscus cocktail was good as well. This is definitely a step up from the Guy Fieri restaurant that used to be there. read more

Last night at The Ribbon -definitely 5 stars for the interiors. The place is beautifully lit with huge chandeliers a very warm and elegant setting.Right in the middle of theatre district this place is designed keeping in mind that it will attract a lot of crowd for pre theatre dinner or post theatre drinks . Food- good. A few vegetarian options but meatlovers are gonna love it. Drinks/craft cocktails- ok nothing beyond par can be better Service - We felt was rushed not sure why they weren't that busy at the dining area ,bar was definitely packed. well i went there yesterday - Sunday night - with my husband, was a very slow night, just a few tables there, we decided to go there because we had a pulsd voucher. To start the deal that we got says that you'll have a bottle of a fancy champaign Beau Joie, but they give you a awful pro seco thats 10 dollars at the local deli. The food is blend, no good surprises or flavorful, just eatable. The desert was clearly pre made not housemade and super sweet. I honestly dont think we did a good deal once they tax you and include the tip on your check for the full price. (250,00 once my voucher was 119,00) Does not worth the visit. read more

Strongly recommend I've been to this place before the restaurant part was opened. Only the bar downstairs and it was wonderful experience and very nice cocktails the service was excellent. I've been wanting to try the food there and I finally had a chance. I went there for lunch and had Salad and shrimp cocktail. Everything was excellent. They also have cocktails for $13.50 that was great price for this arI was surprised that it was quiet at lunch. Now, I really want to go there for dinner. read more

I was looking for a centrally located restaurant near the Broadhurst Theater. My wife and I enjoyed the very cool and NYC themed decor while reviewing the menu. Drinks were spot on, food was spot on, service was spot on. From the hummus appetizer, to the kale and treviso salad for my wife and I enjoyed the shrimp scampi and steak off the prix fixe menu for myself, there was nothing left on our dishes. Ended it off with the pudding and we were filled with great food and drink and I have already have recommended my friends to The Ribbon for a theater or date nite. read more

I really had hopes for this meal but it was disappointing. The appetizer, the rice balls, were really good with the homemade pesto. The caesar salad was good but the filet was over cooked and it took about an hour to get our food. There was probably three other tables in the restaurant. We ordered the decidedly average "White Bean Hummus" and the bland "Buffalo Style Cauliflower" as a little nourishment between Broadway shows. If they had been $12 I might not have bothered to review them, but at $17 for substandard, inexpensive dishes I feel like I have no choice but to warn others. The food is barely adequate the staff is pleasant enough, but the prices are insane, even for the theater district. Based on the mediocre response, I'm adjusting my review. read more

From the time we walked in the experience was top notch. The host were pleasant and welcoming. We were seated on time for our reservation. The atmosphere was perfect. Not too dark or light & GORGEOUS decorations ...Christmas ready! The bathroom was clean. They had a live singer playing piano and she was amazing! We were greeted by the manager & other staff throughout our dining experience. The prices were decent & the food was great quality. We ordered sparkling water to start. For appetizers we shared the buffalo cauliflower- it was the best I ever had. Not overly breaded & perfect amount of spicy. We also had pasta with vodka sauce topped with fresh ricotta- also amazing. We shared the prime rib and creamed spinach. Both melted in our mouths and the presentation was top notch. The steak was so good! Cooked perfectly. (Better steak experience than Nurset.. check my other reviews) They comped us on two glasses of Prosecco & the birthday desert! Which they brought it out with a sparkler and all sang happy birthday to my friend. Last but certainly not least I want to shout out our waiter Dalevonne aka Del. He was the epitome of great service. He def went above and beyond & we were very appreciative of how greatly we were treated. Highly recommend this place! read more

Came to NYC celebrate my wife's B-Day. Wanted to try a good steakhouse in Manhattan. With many choices we tried Bacall's. We weren't disappointed. The food was delicious, our host and server Jarvis was very attentive and made us feel like home. The ambiance was perfect. The live music was perfect "Dani luv" behind the piano. We tried filet mignon & the showstopper with bone morrow butter which was delicious. The drinks are also delicious we tried blue dream perfect and the dolly. One other thing don't forget to try their smash potatoes . I would highly recommend this location to friends, stranger and family. I wish I could add more stars but I could only do five. We had such a fabulous time dining at Bacall's! We drove into the city and parked about a block away. When we walked inside we were greeted by a fun ambiance and friendly staff. They had a live performer, huge bar areas and plenty of space for dining. The menu had incredible prices for NYC, especially in the Broadway section! This is literally the place to go before and after you go to a show! We LOVED the wagyu meatballs and the prime rib dinner was cooked to perfection! The dirty martinis and drinks were phenomenal. After dinner, we took a tour of the rest of the restaurant, only to discover they have an ENORMOUS, incredible NYC club BLUE downstairs! Andddd they have bottomless brunch on the weekends! This is literally your go-to place in the city in Time Square! read more

The host found us a table quickly, and our food didn't take long at all. The Bucharest pasta with lamb ragu was outstanding. The homemade pasta was fresh, cooked perfectly, and delicious. My husband's steak was perfectly med rare, and the truffle fries were earthy, crisp, and made us want seconds. Service was outstanding! Visiting NYC and decided on Bacall's for dinner. The food and drinks were delicious, but what really made our dining experience special was our server Delevonne. He made sure he took care of us and went above and beyond our expectations! Of course it was super busy and he had so many customers to serve all at once, but made sure we always had everything we needed and still had a great demeanor. Will be back next time! The main cocktail was meant to be sipped first and they provided a small glass of beer to be sipped after. The name escapes me but it was very good. Since we had cocktails at dinner, we only stayed for one round. Service was good, and overall I enjoyed my time at Patent Pending. I would definitely return to explore more of their menu.

Bacall's is the most unprofessionally run restaurant I have ever experienced. I have no idea how they stay in business. I made a dinner reservation via Yelp on December 7th for 8 people at 6:30 before a show and received an email confirmation. I had to call FIVE times to move the reservation to 6:00. I left TWO detailed voicemails with "reservations" because NO ONE ANSWERS the phone, and NO ONE RETURNED MY CALLS. The THIRD time I called, I hit the menu option for a "manager" and spoke with someone named Martin who said he would change my reservation to 6:00. I suggested I leave my mobile number with him in case the time change was an issue, but Martin said he didn't need it because it would be on my reservation, along with my email. I said take in anyway, just in case, so he he did me a favor and took my number. I never heard back from him so I assumed the time change was fine. On December 14th, the DAY OF the reservation, I received an email CONFIRMING my reservation but the time was STILL noted as 6:30. So I called the restaurant AGAIN. And AGAIN I got nothing but voicemail from "reservations" AND the manager's office, where I AGAIN left a detailed message about re-confirming that our reservation had, in fact, been moved to 6:00. And AGAIN, no one returned my calls. When the first in my party of 8 arrived, he was told the restaurant was CLOSED FOR A PRIVATE PARTY. The said they "called" everyone. NO ONE CALLED, TEXTED OR EMAILED ME ABOUT THE CANCELLATION, even though I'd left my mobile number several times in association with my reservation. Not that cancelling our reservation LAST MINTUE DAY OF was in any way acceptable, but ANY PRIOR NOTICE would have be appreciated. Either way, our party of 8 had to scramble to find another restaurant for dinner with enough time to eat before curtain. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. There are too many other good restaurants in NYC, we don't need Bacall's. The way you treat potential patrons is disgusted. Not only will I never eat at Bacall's, but I will tell everyone I know not to eat there. read more

I've come out of yelp hibernation to write this review because The Ribbon is just that amazing. First, the entire restaurant is Instagram worthy. From the bar area to the chandeliers to the booths, every corner is post worthy. The food!! Everything was amazing and easily shareable. The Butchers Royale is a must if you love foie gras and meat and cheese. The Prime Rib just melts in your mouth. The Monkey Bread is a "panty dropper" as my gf called it, it's worth having to suffer at the gym the next day!! The sauv blanc was great and perfectly cold. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly which was a pleasant surprise since this place just opened. Oh and the music!! I felt like I was at Tao or Vandal with my girlfriends. It made for such a FUN evening, like a girls night out in NYC. We were singing in our seats and ordered 2 more rounds of wine lol. We arrived with a 6:15 reservation before the theater. They said two other couples had reservations ahead of us. So, they not only messed up our reservations, but two people before us and dozens of people after us. Over 30 minutes later they were finally ready to seat us. We had already just grabbed a cramped seat at the bar because we weren't going to make our show. I went to the bathroom through the dining room and there were plenty of empty tables, for some reason they just weren't seating people. In addition, the host was being kind of smug and rude to everyone checking in as if it were our fault they were running late. Our bar server was nice, but the food was subpar and overall just a mess of a place. Will never return and would not recommend, especially for pre-theater fare. read more

We were lucky to be there for a special bean soup which was fabulous and a meal in itself. Cauliflower and avocado Appetizers were simply amazing. This place is a real gem! It's hands down the best rigatoni vodka I've had in the city, and I'm a pasta enthusiast, haha. Everything was fantastic, from our service to the drinks! The interior decor is absolutely beautiful, and the drinks are served in stunning containers, like a margarita inside a small Patrón bottle! We went for the big bottle, and it was totally worth it! The meatballs were tender, and the wings were incredibly tasty! I also loved the rib eye with mashed potatoes. Just awful experience. There was a popping noise that was coming out of the sound system that we and the only other customers in the room both asked our waiter about. He told us that the manager could not figure out what the issue was for the past week when she shut everything down at the end of the night. No wonder there were only us and one other table occupied in this huge restaurant. The food was below mediocre, but not quite what I would call inedible. The Ribbon does not disappoint. Just like it's 72nd street counterpart the food and service are excellent. The atmosphere is incredible. Came back to try them out for dinner and was blown away by the menu. Decided on the arugula and pear salad (wow) and the burger (which Mehdi raved about) and the steak. We truly enjoyed everything. Salad was super fresh, burger was a very nice blend and steak was cooked perfectly. Fries with the burger super crispy and plentiful! We also tried two different desserts, an apple tart and chocolate lava!! Delish!! Already planning our next visit. 39th/8th. Awesome team, great bar and fantastic food!!

The place is tastefully decorated with giraffes that are part of the inspiration for the restaurant since they are chill social animals. We got to chat with the owner towards the end of the night and found out the name of the restaurant refers to the purple tongue of the giraffe and the purple tongue you might get from drinking red wine. Another bonus is that they are part of several restaurant cash back programs like InKind, Seated, Upside, Foodie Card, Franki and Blackbird. Definitely will return to try more of their offerings.

The toppings range from about $4 to $5 extra. I didn't try anything else on the menu, but based on the pizza, which I think is Purple Tongue's main selling point besides the wine, I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't too floppy or too cheesy. It's a more mature spot with a classy atmosphere. It may not be the best pizza you'll ever have, but the overall experience and atmosphere make it worth checking out.
