Unbelievable food, atmosphere and service. One of the few fine dining restaurants in the states where the price matches the experience.

My boyfriend surprised me with a visit to a Michelin-starred restaurant, where we ordered the prix fixe menu for $125. This meal supposedly came with four courses, but it was actually more than that and definitely left us stuffed by the end of the night. Let me start off by talking about the interior. The quality of the table was top-notch. You can tell that they wanted to make it look classy as much as possible. The heavy wooden tables, LED lamps, and tall ceiling helped set the vibe. What made me love the interior even more was the large windows showcasing the bright green tall trees outside. I kid you not, I couldn't stop looking at that direction because of how beautiful it was. Anyways, this place is associated with Star Provisions since the restaurant entrance is at the side of that building. As for the food, all of them were nicely presented. The tiny details and the plating amaze me each time it's brought out. You can tell they used high quality ingredients and wouldn't serve anything that didn't meet their standards. My top four dishes would be the beef tartare, the dry aged steak, the bread, and the pear! The beef tartare was unique and provided a tangy flavor. Really loved how they added some crispy chips and crunchy pieces of shallots(?) on top. The dry aged steak was very juicy and flavorful. On top of that, the crispy potatoes that absorbed majority of that meat sauce was a smart move. Next was the bread. It was one of the softest breads I have ever eaten. It was hot and had the right amount of salt. Eating that with melted butter completed the meal. Lastly was the pear entrée. This dish was the most impressive dish. I'm not sure how they did it, but it remained crunchy even when it was thoroughly infused with beet juice. Next to it was chia seeds infused with coconut, making it both unique and refreshing. Now for the downsides. For someone who is familiar with Asian flavor, there were definitely a lot of Asian inspired dishes that night. One example was the shrimp. It was tasty, however, the amount of soy sauce surrounding it was too salty for me. Another example was the lobster. I wasn't a fan of the Thai flavors like coconut and tom yum because it overpowered the freshness of the lobster. As for the okra entrée, it reminded me of a Japanese dish. It was fresh but the batter was a bit on the thicker side. Aside from this, there were a lot of dishes that had way too much cheese making it overwhelming. Overall, I really love the quality, presentation, and uniqueness of each dish. While I preferred some dishes over others, I was glad that I was able to see their creativity. I also really love the palate cleansers in between our courses. You can tell the chef put thought into the order of each dish and poured love into each one. During our visit to Atlanta, decided to check this place out after making a reservation. Appears that it got Michelin star in 2023 and long story short, they deserve the star. Having tried several Michelin star places, I think they have worked their way up in terms of taste and service over the course of many years per review. It is a four course meal for $125/pp and you get to choose a dish from each course. I highly recommend getting wine pairing as they really go well with the dish. I can tell the ingredients were locally sourced, fresh and beautifully presented. But not beautifully prepared. Almost everything I ate needed salt. I expected to be blown away by every single dish when eating Michelin, as I was in NYC. I was severely underwhelmed by some dishes, especially the Lobster and Polenta, the Dry Aged NY strip. The Steak and the Lobster were amazingly fresh ingredients, but goddammit I wanted to ask for a salt shaker. I thought I would get Italian food, but the head chef is Korean I believe and got an interesting fusion of American contemporary and Korean. The side dishes for the entree was collard greens and daikon in pumpkin broth. The side dishes were delish, but this fusion left a confusing and uninspired finality. Nothing felt like it should go together , nothing was harmonious The 3rd yogurt course was stunning, wouldn't change that for the world. The chocolate soufflé was absolutely divine. Solo diner review: I was visiting Atlanta at the end of March and I'm excited that I got to try their new Michelin starred restaurant! I planned this trip well in advance and was very pleased with my dinner. I was pleased with my seat along a banquet facing the side of the bar. As a solo diner it provided interesting comings and goings to watch while I enjoyed my meal. The dining room feels dark and urban, but not dark enough that you feel like you need a flashlight. All the food and service were excellent, but some highlights were the steak tartare (a personal favorite anywhere), the brie with sourdough crumble and truffle honey for the cheese course, and the Vin Santa from Badia a Coltbuono dessert wine. I also appreciated the feedback/coaching from the staff about how best to eat some dishes. Bathrooms were conveniently located and each was a single user complete with lots of space, its own sink, and playful wallpaper. If you're lucky, ask for some bakery leftovers when you confirm your reservation and you may just get a treat for breakfast (really, I think they should just do this as a gift to diners, but right now you have to ask and they have to have leftovers). This was a wonderful experience! My first time in ATL and I was lucky enough to get reservations! Place is usually booked up for months. My sister flew into town to surprise me and she had called the restaurant to see if she could get a table and surprise me. They were all booked up. My sister told it was my birthday and they squeezed her in. My wife and I got there first and we were seated. My sister snuck in after and surprised me. The hostess and restaurant knew and they played it off perfect! I was totally surprised, the service and how they went out of their way to make my birthday special was amazing. Now to the food it was an amazing 4-5 course meal! Every palate of my tongue was touched! Some I enjoyed more than others but the Michelin star well deserved! Bacchanalia is an Atlanta institution, and we were excited to finally visit for our anniversary a couple months ago. Without getting into specifics of every single dish (which may not even be that helpful because the menu does change), it was a really fun journey for my mouth from beginning to end. I'm an omnivore and my husband is a vegetarian, and we did notice that I enjoyed my meal more overall than he did, as vegetarian tasting menus tend to lean on dairy a lot, and that ended up feeling a bit overly rich to him. However we had a lovely experience, were stuffed to the gills at the end, and enjoyed the flawless service immensely. read more

My first starred experience in ATL Going into this place - the one resounding - almost ubiquitous feedback I heard from the few lucky enough to dine here is "you get great food, but not a lot of it" Im shutting that fallacy down right now. Maybe Atlantans aren't ready for a Michelin starred restaurant of this caliber if they truly believe that. This place will stuff you to the gills. Don't let a four course prix fixe menu fool you. The sleek, mid century modern decor is sure to emanate a sense of arousal when first walking in. I decided to go with the fois gras terrine, duck breast, kurst cheese, and chocolate dessert as my prix fixe but ended up layering in the ova classic caviar course because why the hell not. I wasn't really celebrating anything - but came to the conclusion that almost anything is worth celebrating. I'll be honest. Every course, including the surprise courses of profiteroles, amuse-bouche, complimentary side courses, and petit fleurs at the end were absolutely divine. If you're looking for a paradigm shifting culinary gut punch you CANNOT skip the duck course. The only dish I would change is the Kurst cheese with Belgian endive. While I'm personally a fan of excessive bitterness - I could totally see how this could be off putting to an unsuspecting diner. I can say rather sanguinely that I disproved the myth that you leave this place hungry. Quite frankly I have a low degree of confidence that I'll even be able to eat lunch tomorrow after this phenomenal dinner. Come here and come HUNGRY. If you leave this establishment and end up going to Krystal after you deserve any harsh judgement that comes your way. Bacchanalia is a great inclusion on the Michelin Guide's debut in Atlanta. While I can't attest to the rest of the fine dining in Atlanta as a non-resident, I can say Bacchanalia objectively worthy of being included. The ambience is just right for all your special occasions. Service is fantastic, with silverware for each course and bread service. I love the prix fixe setup as it allows everyone to choose what they prefer, and the fact they can pull it off, props to them. The duck in the 2nd course is VERY VERY good, like I liked it better than the two ducks I've had at two 2-star Michelin restaurants in NYC. Orange is a classic pairing, so is the squash, but the addition of espresso, made it so rich. I could have that every day. The third course was interesting, I've never had a choice of how I'd like my cheese course. The smoked ricotta was decent, but my girlfriend's Brillat-Savarin was phenomenal paired with the honeycomb and sourdough croutons. It'd be interesting how often the menu changes, but given their accolades, I'd imagine the kitchen can handle bringing out new concepts! read more

Second visit to Bacchanalia (in 2 years maybe), and I was excited to refresh my palate with the experience and food that I remembered from my last visit. However, I was not impressed this time around. My take on Bacchanalia is that is a well oiled restaurant that does the needful to hit the basic expectations from a fine dining restaurant but doesn't WOW you anymore (at least me) We had Saturday evening reservations.. Parking was easy, and we were greeted and seated promptly. Our server got the menus and water and explained some of the dishes. They have a great wine selection and the sommelier was super helpful in getting Arpi the right wine she wanted. I ordered a rum old fashioned, followed by a traditional old fashioned and both were delicious. Their food options tend to be pretty consistent with a few tweaks (4 courses) and they always give start with an amuse-bouche to get you started. We had a mushroom cream bun, which was a good bite to get us ready for the food. Here is what we ordered: 1st: Steak tartare, Yellow Fin Tuna 2nd: Dry aged NY strip 3rd: Red Cow Parmigiano, Smoked Ricotta 4th: Chocolate, Soufflé We also got complimentary bread with some white butter, a spinach cup/smoked trout cookie trio (can't remember the third) and a palate cleanser before the 4th. Food Reviews: Steak tartare was ok. It could have used some more citrus and spice so I was a little underwhelmed. I honestly preferred the Tuna as that was very fresh, good amount of citrus and packed a punch of flavor NY strip - while very flavorful and cooked medium (rather than medium rare) was a little chewy. It had great marbling but the toughness threw me off. The parmigiano was good. I enjoyed the textures with the crispy and soft cheese. This was definitely my preference over the Smoked Ricotta, which had a squash puree and overall not easy to eat in the bowl. For the final course, the chocolate dessert felt mediocre - something I could easily get at Alon's IMO. The soufflé was good but I wish they had some actual apples I could get in my spoon. Have to say - the madeleines they served at the end (with the bill) was a nice gesture but either they were just reheated or just not baked well because the ones I got were pretty dry! Oh well.. Really hate writing this review, but we found Bacchanalia to be overrated, particularly within the impressive Atlanta food scene. We were excited for our first Michelin experience, but it unfortunately fell flat. The service checked all the boxes and everyone was attentive, but the food itself was a disappointment. Specifically, flavor was lacking though presentation was beautiful and meticulous. First, you're served a savory parmesan Pâte à choux with a mornay cheese sauce (4/10). The sauce was good, but the pasty itself was a bit stale. The idea was exciting, but execution wasn't great. Next came the amuse bouche (6/10). The first two were quite good. The last did a good job palate cleansing, but felt a bit like chewing on glass. For the first course, we ordered the crab fritter (8/10) and the steak tartare (5/10). The crab fritter was very meaty, had a perfect crisp to it, and was likely our favorite course of the meal. The steak tartare, I believe, must have been conceptualized to be simple high quality ingredients. I love tartare, but this just was too simple for me. Next, we were given a choice of sourdough or rolls. Choose the sourdough. I can't speak on it, but those rolls were just not good. My partner and I made confused eye contact after one bite. The rolls were lukewarm at best, stale, and dry (2/10) The butter and hummus were good, but the bread was just a vessel. For the second course, I ordered the scallops (6/10) and my partner ordered the New York strip (8/10). The scallops came served with sunchoke. The dish was lacking texture variation, was under seasoned, and the scallops were not really seared. The NY strip was quite good, but again nothing particularly standout compared to the rest of the Atlanta food scene. Sides of bok choy (3/10) and salad (5/10) were served and were also lackluster and lacking flavor. The cheese course was my favorite. I ordered the brillat-savarin (9/10) and my partner ordered the cheese sampler (7/10). The brillat-savarin was served with truffle honey and chestnuts and was really excellent and inventive. This is the level we expected for each of the courses. The cheese sampler was good, but not standout, though I guess that is to be expected when you order a cheese sampler. Then came a small palate cleanser with chilis and cranberry gel. This was a treat and again more on par with what we expected in terms of flavor level. Finally was the dessert. My partner ordered the ellijay apple (4/10) and I ordered the earl grey soufflé (5/10). The apple dessert was served with rosemary sorbet, which was the best part. Again, more effort seemed to be spent on presentation than in flavor. The soufflé was well executed in terms of technique, but was also lacking flavor. Served with the check were madeleines and a few sweets. The madeleines, though meant to be crumbly, were also bordering on stale, similar to the Pâte à choux and the rolls. I think this is what really got to me. If you're going to serve extras, they need to be great. Overall, the food was fine, but will not have a place in our top 10 recommendations for fine dining in Atlanta. read more

We've eaten at Michelin-star restaurants across the country -- New York, Chicago, LA, San Francisco -- and every time, we've left in awe of the food above all else. Last night, however, Bacchanalia managed to achieve something I did not think was possible: I walked out stunned, not by brilliance... but by how spectacularly every single course missed the mark. Chef literally played culinary roulette last night. The Courses (A Comedy of Errors): Crab fritters: Edible. Hope flickered. SF eggs: Decent enough. Hope grew. Then: Lamb and duck. Hope died. Neither had a whisper of flavor. No nuance, no depth, nothing remotely memorable -- unless you count the lingering confusion: "How did they make protein taste like nothing?" The sides were so basic they felt like an afterthought, and the bread? Let me just say: ruining Hawaiian rolls and sourdough should qualify as a crime in several states. Dessert -- The Grand Finale of Chaos The flourless chocolate cake was so bland, so uninspired, so tragically dry, it made the stuff you find next to the lottery tickets at a gas station look gourmet. And the mandarin dessert? Topped with popcorn. It arrived, I kid you not topped with popcorn, like a sad prop from a movie theater concession stand trying to cosplay as "elevated cuisine." I stared at it, utterly speechless, before bursting into laughter. At that point, I think the restaurant was trolling us. Final Thoughts : Where Flavor Went to Die The flavors just wouldn't compliment each other. Nothing harmonized. Every dish felt like the ingredients were having separate identity crises on the plate. Notes were missed, ignored, or never attempted. And honestly, it genuinely felt like the kitchen just freestyled the whole evening because.... A full-blown culinary misadventure. This wasn't Michelin-level cooking. It was a bizarre fever dream of mismatched ingredients and confused ideas that desperately needed a rethink from start to finish. Bacchanalia was one of the wildest tasting menu experiences I've ever had. The pacing was insane - our drinks took 30 minutes to show up for example and some tables never got food at all - but the food was good! And the servers were very nice. There had to have been something going on that night because 3 hours for these 5 courses felt wrong and it was compounded by how long the drinks took. There was a lot of waiting around. The only duds in terms of food were the cheese plate (our cheese was sweaty and hard with a THICK skin indicative of it sitting out already cut for hours) and the duck, which was under with a thick layer of unrendered fat which made it impossibly chewy and just unpleasant to eat. The lobster portion was generous (in fact all of the portions were pretty generous) but I think this restaurant could really REALLY improve if they fixed the pacing (and in turn could get more covers in every night which will help with some of the freshness issues like with the cheese and the stale crackers that came with the amuse buche) Honestly though I would still return so I'm giving them 4 stars! read more

Only reason why we decided to go here was because of our daughter's milestone birthday, it was quite an experience. 4 stars only because of price point but everything was 5 star quality, from service to drinks, to plating to food quality. We've never been to a restaurant with tasting menu, when browsing at pictures online, I honestly thought we'll be hungry after we leave. I was so wrong!!! A very full experience, with lots of details to notice regarding food, service, and environment. I made the reservation several weeks in advance, but there seemed to have openings for several days before or even if you make it the day before. The inside is dimly lit throughout, and in a nice location with a giant window overlooking a lot of trees and greenery, which is on brand with Atlanta's "City in a Forest" vibe. Most of the indoor decor is made of wood, and that included the slab of wood that made up our table. There is no traditional tasting menu, but instead a prix fixe menu of $125 for 4 courses, and you'll still be required to choose the 4 courses. My date and I chose 2 different dishes for each course to maximize what we can try. What we were prepared for, was how many little dishes, snacks, and finger food that comes in between every course. We were extremely full by dessert/4th course, something very few Michelin star restaurants can achieve imo. There are too many different foods and dishes to describe individually, but I'll note some of the highlight worthy dishes. The beef tartare, with an interesting contrast in textures in the soft tangy raw beef eaten with the crisp that lies on top. The shrimp and the lobster with some seemingly Asian inspired flavors, such as what tastes like a mix of soy and fish sauce in the shrimp bao, and lemongrass with ginger, along with coconut, like a tom yum soup with bok choy with the lobster. There was also okra tempura, but the batter's a little thicker than regular Japanese tempura, and it was topped with an aioli/mayo based sauce, not sure if that was the intention but I think I still prefer the traditional thinner tempura batter. The dry aged steak was incredibly juicy, topped with marrow for that extra umami flavor. Served next to square bites of hash brown/tater tots, though it appears there are many variations of this dish depending on the day. My dish went great with the suggested wine pairing of a heavy Bordeaux red wine. The Valserena Parmigiano is one of their classics for their famous cheese course. There are slices of parmesan surround the center of mashed dates and topped with a drop of pungent black garlic. I don't think it's for everyone as the parmesan is very heavy on the cheese flavor, but I think it complements well with the aromatic concentrated garlic and the slight sweetness of the dates. This is a must try if you love cheese. If not, the Beecher's flagship is a nice break from the heaviness with endives, apples, hazelnuts, and cubes of the much lighter cheese. For dessert, the souffle was interesting, with foamy earl grey cream topping the entire dessert, and bites of creamy raspberry underneath. Good combination of flavor, but I wasn't expecting a dessert with so much creaminess and softness on the texture (and nothing else). Service was amazing, the servers broke down the details of the complicated menu beautifully, and they covered each other and took care of each other's tables including the changing of the cutlery and the serving of each course. They also passed the napkin test; my napkin was nicely folded on my table when I left the table to use the restroom. Some minor things here and there mostly regarding my personal preference for the food, but otherwise a very enjoyable and amazing experience with some of the most top notch service I've ever seen. read more

We came to Atlanta for the Aquarium and also wanted to experience a truly amazing dining experience while staying here. Bacchnalia was perfect from interactions with hostess to the most knowledgeable and accommodating sommelier, Eric, and our server, Michael. We started with the crab fritter and tuna crudo which were insanely delicious. Next was the sea bass and scallops which were perfectly prepared. The cheese course included the parmigiana and the brillat-savarin which were exquisite. Finally, we had the flan and the muscadine which were the perfect ending. I wanted to take my significant other somewhere nice they've never been for their birthday. I also have been wanting to come to bacchanalia for a while now and things just lined up. Let me preface by saying this has to be one of the best dining experiences. I've had in a very long time. We definitely got our moneys worth. Prior to coming. I did do some research because I was nervous about the portions and him being hungry afterwards, and that just was not the case at all. From the time I walked in to the time I left I was probably greeted by every single person that worked there. The service was immaculate and they really made us feel valued and seen and made sure we were pleased. I'd have to say I don't feel the ambience was overly done it felt very cozy and modern. So from the beginning, obviously we knew we wanted to do the four course tasting menu along with the wine pairing. So bear with me because I do not remember the names of any of the wines we had thoroughly enjoyed them all lol. For some reason, I ordered the oysters. I really wish I had not done that. I probably wouldn't have left so overly full. That was my fault but they were delicious so no regrets. They started us off with some airy popover type bread that came with a (I want to say Gruet) cheese dipping sauce. Omg they were so good! Somewhere in between the bread and oysters, we received an amuse bouche (for each of us) I can't recall specifically what they were but I know one of them had dried brisket, and that was my favorite. For our first course, my dinner companion got the crab fritter and I got the FL yellowfin tuna. Both were delicious however his was on another level of flavor! For our second course, he got the lamb which was Olive and pistachio crusted and came with a side of artichoke. I tried it and it was good just a little too gamy for me, but, I got the dry aged ny strip and that was the best steak i've ate in a long time. My partner still randomly talks about it to this day. With our second course came sides, one sautéed spinach and onions the other was seasoned tomatoes. For our third course, he got the red cow parmigiano and loved it, I got the cheese plate was very happy with my choice. It came with a different variety of cheeses, apples, honey, and some candied pecans. for our last course, I was trying to figure out the dish. Everyone was getting in the previous reviews because no one had a name for it so I ordered the coffee dessert. Turns out it was not the same as the previous reviews, but it was okay what I like most was in the middle was what tasted like Rice Krispies so I enjoyed the crunch part. My partner got the happy birthday. I think it was a sticky toffee cake. It was better than all the desserts on the table. It was delicious! He also got his fourth course the strawberry, whole-grain tart, with Matcha gelato I liked his better. Going back to the wine pairing we followed the suggestions of the Somalia. All of which were fabulous. I'll put my receipt if you're interested in knowing what those were. This past weekend my husband & I celebrated 10 years together! Which is wild to think about. Over the past few years we have started to a really fun tradition of "collecting" experiences at Michelin Stared restaurants. While neither of us are particularly foody (I have a stomach condition so it makes the experiences extra interesting) but we love good ambiance & appreciate architecture and quality service. Bacchanalia recently received their first star and I have been wanting to experience this Atlanta institution since I was in high school. So I was VERY excited! The experience will consist of a 4 course menu. You'll have a few options to from for each course (I put a star next to what we chose in the photos) plus a bread course. As we were celebrating a special occasion, thy also gifted us a few extra special goodies in the form of a dessert, and a few extra goodies throughout the evening. A lot of comments I see on experience dining is that they leaving still hungry...and I promise you will be full when you leave. I was stuffed by the time we left. They balance the courses with a healthy starch addition (sides and breads) that supplement the selection you make. A particular stand out for us was the cheese course (3rd) and the crab (1st) Overall it was a phenomenal experience! 9/10! Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. Had recommendations & pairings ready to go. It's a beautiful space (a little dark at night fair warning) and food was phenomenal. I recommend asking many questions as the menue isn't particularly detailed and you may be a bit surprised when your meal arrives if you don't! Would absolutely recommend! My wife and I usually do not gravitate towards the kind of food this longstanding Westside restaurant serves, as our palettes veer towards bold seasoning and spice over the more subtle flavors that restaurants similar to Bacchanalia specialize in. Nonetheless, we heartily enjoyed our recent anniversary dinner here and had an excellent experience. The ambiance at Bacchanalia feels swanky but understated. The open, lofty space can house a boisterous crowd yet offers special occasion intimacy concurrently. Service here, too, feels quite polished without being stuffy. Our waitress possessed excellent knowledge of the menu, and we felt well taken care of throughout the evening. The service team struck the ideal balance of attentiveness and unobtrusiveness and paced out our meal optimally. The restaurant solely offers a prefix tasting menu at $110 per person. This may seem steep, but it offers plenty of food and there are actually multiple extra unadvertised bites guests receive on top of the four courses delineated on the menu. Our meal started with a set of these unexpected bites: creamy puffs stuffed with savory cheese and a trio of adorable amuse bouche with multiple pops of flavor such as sweet summer corn and smoked salmon. Our actual first course arrived next. We enjoyed both the tuna and the crab fritter, but the latter shone with a bracingly sour and funky Thai broth that complimented the crispy, sweet crab quite well. The fritter is a must order for any fan of Southeast Asian flavors. Between our first and second courses, we received another unexpected course in Bacchanalia's bread service. The fresh sourdough bread arrived alongside cloudlike whipped butter and a tangy tofu tomato spread that made for pleasant munching. Cutting into the loaf made an absolute mess, but of course the service staff vigilantly cleared our crumbs. My wife and I opted for the lamb and the duck, respectively. Her dish won out with absolutely perfectly cooked lamb accompanied with rich roast tomatoes and eggplant. The duck meat itself had a ton of flavor but had a bit of a flabby texture without much crisp skin. Still, I enjoyed the accompaniments of a surprisingly savory peach purée and zesty peach salsa. Course number two arrived with two unexpected side dishes of fresh summer tomatoes with fresh cheese and shishitos peppers in a piquant tomato sauce, both delicious. The cheese course here is interesting and very unique. One can either opt for the traditional and justifiably famous cheese platter or more composed dishes that highlight a single unique cheese. We went for the latter and ordered the goat cheese and the parmigiano. The goat cheese comprised a fluffy pancake and some whipped goat cheese atop sweet beets. I love beets so this dish satisfied my taste buds, but my more beet averse wife thought the dish was strictly so so. We both enjoyed the delicious parmigiano comprising long strips of fresh cheese and cheese crips wrapped florally around a date crumble cake. The sweet and savory combination on this dish had bold flavors and acted as a perfect prelude to dessert. Of the two desserts, the soufflé won out with a lofty texture and a smart accompaniment of bay leaf gelato. The blueberry dessert too was tasty, I just wish it had blueberries rather than consisting mainly of lemon cream. The kitchen also sent out an excellent, comforting chocolate cake for our anniversary which was a lovely touch. Finally, just when we thought the meal was over, we received a small platter of homemade cookies and chocolates which we graciously enjoyed to go. One minor criticism of the experience we had is in the bar program. Bacchanalia offers an excellent wine by the bottle list, standard classic cocktails, and a tight selection of beers. We felt the non wine drink selections didn't match the creativity of the food menu. Aside from that slight lack, our meal here was essentially perfect from food to service to setting. I had a reservation at Bacchanalia for a very early solo dinner on Saturday night. I arrived about 20 minutes late due to horrendous traffic and they were so nice about it. They offer me a spot at the bar or a table and I opted for the table. Everyone I encountered at the restaurant was absolutely the best. Kind, patient, polite. Just perfect service. Their menu is a prix fixe with four courses for $125 per person. You get to pick your options, so it's not a tasting menu style. Here's what I had: First Course: Crab Fritter with Thai essence, citrus, and avocado Second Course: Dry Aged NY Strip with bone marrow, potato, and horseradish Third Course: Brillat-Savarin with truffle honey and sourdough crumble Fourth Course: Soufflé with grapefruit, ginger, and honey gelato Before the courses started, I was given a small beet salad to start and then a 3 amuse bouche plate. I also had a delightful citrus agua fresca before the last course started. And at the very end, with the bill, a 3 part sweet ending, which was absolutely delightful. You do get a lot of food here, and I left absolutely stuffed. The stand outs, for me, were definitely the crab fritter and the dry aged NY strip. We ate here a month ago - second year in a row for a birthday dinner. I'm writing this review primarily to provide feedback to the owners, chefs and stakeholders there. I should have provided this feedback live, but I didn't. I won't make this mistake again. The evening was generally OK - very good service, great cocktails. We brought our 16 y.o. son, who is really getting into food. When my wife and I had eaten there in the past, we loved the whole experience and were excited to share something "high end" with him. Things went south during the appetizer course. His lobster tail was so tough he couldn't cut through it. It was literally like rubber. I should have sent it back, but I didn't. Our crab cakes were very good. I'm kicking myself for not sending that overcooked lobster back. Time for entrees. My wife and I both ordered the scallops, which were perfectly cooked but bland. The whole dish tasted flat. Like literally flat. Parts of it were OK I suppose, but overall the entree was a massive disappointment for us both. That said, my son loved his steak. The dessert course was fine, as were the small bites. The bread was amazing. The reason why I'm giving it two stars is that by the time the dust settled (after drinks, tipping, etc.), we had spent $600 on an experience where we all left pretty disappointed. We should have sent THREE things back to the kitchen, which feels insane to say out loud. Moreover, we probably should have moved off of the scallop main altogether and pivoted to another main course. Despite its presentation, the dish felt too flat to fix. I don't like to be "that guy" and going into that mode somehow diminishes the evening in my experience, and in the moment I didn't want to do that. I found myself saying stuff like "maybe theirs is better than mine..." Looking back, I really regret not sending all three dishes back (the lobster and the two scallops). So unfortunately, I can't give Bacchanalia a recommendation to anyone at this point. With a hit rate of 50% - one great experience a year ago and another disappointing one - it's just not worth risking this kind of money. I really wanted to give them 5 stars and rave about our evening. But we found ourselves working pretty hard to salvage any sense of geinuine value from that $600 meal. If you're going to charge this kind of money, it's fair for your guests to expect much, much more than we got. I sincerely hope that this is read by the establishment and they take this to heart. To the rest of you reading this, don't be like me: send stuff back when you're in this price range and the food is sub par. read more

I celebrated my birthday at Bacchanalia and cannot recommend it enough. It is the perfect restaurant for a special occasion. My husband found Bacchanalia while searching the list of James Beard Award winners in Atlanta so we knew it had to be special. We were welcomed and seated immediately upon arriving at the restaurant. The sommelier, our main server, and the other staff who waited on us during our visit were very pleasant. We ordered a delicious bottle of white wine per the sommelier's suggestion. It truly paired well with everything we ordered. The following is what I ordered for each course: tuna crudo; sea bass; a sweet potato dish I do not currently see on the menu online; and the chocolate lava cake for dessert. The chef sent out several items to taste during the course of the meal, and I was even treated to an additional birthday dessert. My husband had the following: crab fritter; Nantucket bay scallops; goat yogurt; and the coffee dessert. Everything tasted exquisite but I wish I ordered the crab fritter too because it was delectable. My husband said the scallops were the best he ever had... and he has ordered his fair share of scallops. I did not realized it was a Michelin Star restaurant until we sat down and looked at the menu, but in my opinion, it deserves more than one star! It was an inviting and cozy atmosphere, and we felt very comfortable for never having been to a Michelin Star restaurant/never really dining out like this unless it's a special occasion. read more

Had an incredible meal here with my friend who went to all the Michelin restaurants with me in Chicago. It is a prix fixe menu, but you have multiple options for each course. They also have wine pairings for each option of each course, which we had all of. Every bite was delicious! The service was lovely, and the restaurant itself is really beautiful. Start to finish-4 hours. It took 1.5 hours for our first course. This doesn't seem normal. It was three couples, so maybe they were really busy. Reservation was 7:30 and we walked out 11:30. The crab fritter was the star! The ravioli dish wasn't amazing, and no one was really impressed with the cheese course (third). Bacchanalia is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to and would highly recommend for special events or a nice date night! The ambiance is cool, service is great, and food is excellent. They have a prix fixe 4 course menu for $110, but the chefs throw in random dishes throughout the night so expect to eat more like 6 courses. Out of everything I ate, I liked the steak tartare, scallops, chocolate cake, and crab fritter the most, but everything I had was at least an 8/10. We had a dinner reservation for 4 at 5:30 pm on Saturday, 2/4/23. Plenty of parking in a free lot! We were seated at a table meant for 8 people, so we were really awkwardly spread out. We were in a curtained off section, with just our table, so it was private. You can wear nice jeans or dress up as much as you want. Our waitress was super quiet, and even though we were in our own section, it was so hard to hear her. There are four courses in the prix fixe menu at $110 per person. I got the Mushroom Tart, the Lamb, Red Cow Parmigiano, and Chocolate. All were delicious. They bring out a good amount of small dishes and sides, courtesy of the chef, which is always a nice touch. The portions were actually bigger than I thought they'd be. I was especially surprised by how big the fourth course dishes were. I couldn't finish the Chocolate, even though it was super good, with hints of salt to bring out the flavor. They have some great non-alcoholic drinks! My favorite was the Tiki Time ($10). I also got the In Fashion ($10), which tasted a little medicinal to me. They also have a sommelier, who comes around with an extensive wine menu. This was a super elevated experience. One of my favorite restaurants. I've been celebrating special occasions here for many years. There are some picky eaters in my family, but there's something for everyone in the tasting menu selections. I remember when the tasting menu was only $75 for 5 courses. Now, it's about $110 per person for 4 courses. Inflation, I suppose! You actually get more than 4 courses since they bring out many treats on the side. I still highly recommend Bacchanalia. The ambiance and service is great here. Parking is very convenient since they have their own lot. My husband and I visited Bacchanalia for the third time in September 2023 and are now 3 for 3 on exceptional experiences that leave us delighted and stuffed to the brim of good food. This time, we added a small-ish platter of raw oysters along with cocktails and cappuccinos to our meal, taking us well over $300 for the final tab. We also found some new favorite dishes and some oh-I-wish-I'd-gotten-what-you'd-gotten dishes. Highlights: * The SF egg! This appetizer has got to be one of the most scrumptious things we've ever had at a restaurant. A cozy, melty, savory egg + cheese fondue scooped onto sourdough sticks. I immediately told my kitchen-savvy husband that I want him to try and figure out how to make this at home! * The lobster + gnocchi. I appreciated the creativity behind this dish. I'd describe it as lump lobster in a kind of butter soup. The addition of corn, soft gnocchi, and I believe leeks added interest in texture and flavor, but I was ultimately focused on the lobster and broth. * Peach margarita. I could have had these all night. * Cucumber salad (included with the entrees). This is another one I wish I could make at home! It's so light and refreshing without being zingy or sharp. (I remember having this and the mole beans during our last visit.) I wasn't impressed by the burnt cheesecake with muscadine jelly, but that's probably because I ended up being in the mood for something richer by the end of the meal. The burnt cheesecake has, overall, a simpler flavor combo, even with the bright muscadines punctuating the dense cake. The mole beans (included with the entrees), too, were not to the tenderness I prefer, but these were the only bits of picky feedback I have, and taste is relative. We always, always enjoy our splurge nights at Bacchanalia. It's always a treat, makes us feel special, and gives us the opportunity to explore masterfully created recipes with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Came here while in Atlanta for a conference and let me tell you - some of the most delicious food I've ever had in my life, truly. Before we even ordered they brought out these crispy cheese pieces to dip in cheddar - I don't even know how to describe them other than it was one of the best things I've ever tasted. The same goes for the pretzel bread with the local salted butter from Marietta - absolutely incredible. We did the prix fixe menu - I had the crab fritter, the capelletti, valserena parmigiano, and ellijay apple. My friend had the lobster, the scallops, and the earl gray soufflé for dessert. The crab fritter was one of the best things I've ever tasted in my life. We also loved that they had pre-paired options for drinks to go with the dinner, though I stuck with the sherry baby drink which was incredible (I'm normally a wine girl, but this was the perfect fall cocktail). They kept bringing pallet cleansers as well as two sides with the entrees including cabbage (which was incredible, I don't even like cabbage but I could eat that every day) and vegetables. The scallops were the best I've ever had in my life. The madelines and raspberry caramels they brought out at the end were also to die for. The ellijay apple had almost the equivalent of an adult fruit roll up that tased incredible paired with the cake underneath and the cheddar crisp. The ambiance was incredible as well, tucked away with plenty of parking or easily accessible by uber/taxi. Service was incredible, our waiter was knowledgeable and kind, always filling our water as soon as it went slightly empty. When you make a reservation at Bacchanalia, you're assured of a lovely evening. From the intricately crafted menu to impeccable service, everything is consistently top drawer. As an update: *** Four course prix fixe menu is $110 *** Corkage fee is now $50. (Wine list goes well into the hundreds.) My husband and I were pleased with last night's choices: *** Appetizers -- His yellow fin tuna was light, fresh and delicious. If you're a fan of sashimi, this may be perfect. I went with foie gras -- velvety, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. *** Second course -- T savored his lamb, cooked medium rare. Perfect! The halibut (my choice) was flakey, flavorful and enhanced by its pistachio topping. *** Third course -- The cheese board (that comes with the most delicious candied nuts, honey and strawberries) is ample for two people. I had chevre with beets, which was a bit dense and strong for my taste. *** Fourth course -- Soufflé is a hands-down favorite no matter what kind. Last night's was peach -- airy, flavorful served with what I think was a basil ice milk. So refreshing. Our server brought out a slice of chocolate birthday cake, which, along with some petit fours, I asked be packaged to bring home. *** Amuse bouche -- There are several -- touted as 'chef's gifts' -- throughout the meal. My favorite may have been a buttermilk peach smoothie, enhanced by the juxtaposition of a salty Indian herb on the rim of the vessel. You may look at photos and think that portions are small. Savor each bite, sip your wine and by dessert you'll no doubt be full. Leaving, we were offered a loaf of artisan bread, which I assume came from Star Provisions, the affiliated retail shop.
