We had an excellent experience at Canoe for brunch. Food was classic and very good & the service was incredible. There's a free valet service, so parking is very easy. We got the assorted pastries and scones, and that was a fun treat. I got the classic "Riverside" breakfast. The eggs were cooked perfectly. My husband got one of the specials, miso trout, and it was fantastic. We sat in the room closest to the river, and the views were incredible. Such a nice, peaceful dining experience. Came here for lunch last week. I had the Atlantic cod but on the salmon set up (spaghetti squash) to make it healthier and it was amazing. My husband had their special which was a stir fry noodles which he also loved. We got their signature dessert which is the popcorn sundae - I have to say I usually default towards chocolate but the waitress sold us on is so we tried it. It was so worth it! I couldn't stop myself from finishing it! We also had the chocolate cake and it was perfectly decadent. The waitress was fantastic and the ambiance is classy but not stuffy. Nice ambiance. Unfortunately we had chosen a day when the weather was rainy so we couldn't really enjoy the outside. Also we were seated in the middle main area, with no view of the river. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, went over the specials also recommended apps and dishes. Drinks were solid, not cheap but well made. We ordered the kangaroo, cold smoked salmon and snow pea salad for apps. Our favorite was definitely the salmon, delicious fish pairing well with the creamy goat cheese and with the amazing crunch of potato underneath. Kangaroo wasn't too gamey at all. Snow pea salad was refreshing. The apps coupled with the bread basket (also delicious) actually left us somewhat full. For entrees the cod was probably the table favorite, and our son enjoyed the burger but probably would have like a simpler normal burger more. My duck was unfortunately far over-seasoned making it difficult to eat some too salty portions. The waiter was appropriately attentive throughout the meal. We didn't have any room for dessert. Overall good restaurant, expensive and in my experience have had better food locally elsewhere. Also, I think there's a large difference in experience between the middle dining room and the tables with the views, so make sure to requests ahead of time if possible. read more

Great service, great food, and great ambiance! I'd been to Canoe a handful of times and had such great experiences that I chose it as my day-after-wedding lunch spot. Valet is complimentary (of course you tip!), and really the only option available for this lot as the rest of the lot makes it clear they don't want restaurant patrons taking up spaces in front of the other shops. So, valet we did! Then, we entered and I gave the hostess my name for my reservation I had made. It's cozy inside with an incredible window view of the river. Our server was very kind and attentive and took special care in making sure my sister's dietary restrictions were respected. Each of us made some kind of a modification to our entrees which isn't something we generally do, but it was very nice to be accommodated. We ordered 3 appetizers for the table: Canoe's House Smoked Salmon, Truffled House-Made French Fries, Shrimp Spring Rolls. Each of them were so tasty! My favorite was the fries, my husband's (ahh!) favorite was the spring rolls, and my husband's mom's favorite was the salmon. My mom couldn't choose a favorite to break the tie (and why should she? Everything was great!), and sadly my sister couldn't partake this time but hopefully next time. For my entrée, I chose the shrimp salad, but since I didn't want it fried today, I chose to get it sautéed. It was good, but next time I'd just get it fried for more flavor and textural interest! Once again, such a great restaurant! From the ambiance to the service, I have always had a great experience. We ordered the charcuterie board and kangaroo as an appetizer, surprisingly all the kids tried the kangaroo and loved it! My beet salad was a larger portion than I was expecting, but it was pairs well with the goat cheese. I chose the salmon for my entree and everything about it was delicious. Canoe is a fantastic place for a date night. It has an old-school fine dining feel right when you walk in. Hospitality is top notch and service is impeccable. There is something about when servers work as a team, and it was clear that's how they operate. Drinks were pretty great the kangaroo was my favorite thing we ate. The sauce is delicious and its tender - I didnt think it was gamey at all. I also thought the rabbit was delicious. The risotto dish was not my favorite. It was still hard and not very creamy. A good friend of mine and I frequent canoe for our bimonthly lunch meet ups. She is a regular here so they always have a table reserved for her whenever she calls. The service is always immaculate. The entire staff greets you as you're being escorted to your table and are all so pleasant. The next time I'm there I'm going to purpose to take a picture of the Chattahoochee river that's right outside the restaurant - it's so picturesque and really sets the scene/ambiance. Eating at Canoe is a routine part of my husband and I coming back home. We love this restaurant, the ambiance, and the welcome. We came in for dinner Saturday night on our way home to Ellijay and loved getting to see Amanda the manager. She is always attentive and such a joy. Service was a bit less memorable than it normally is but my husband and I still enjoyed ourselves. We shared the Baby Arugula & Parmesan Salad, Marinated Golden & Red Beet Salad, Peppercorn Crusted Kangaroo Loin, Georgia White Shrimp, Octopus & Patagonian Scallop Tart, and the Slow Braised Blue Ridge Rabbit. The salads were tasty, a smidge too dressed but still delicious. The peppercorn Crusted kangaroo was cooked perfectly. The tart was pretty darn fishy tasting which made it unpalatable to us. The rabbit stole the show and was cooked perfectly in beautiful pillowy ravioli. Yum!!! We will definitely be back and can't wait to see what new creations the chef comes up with!! Service was above average, attentive and friendly. We dined during Sunday brunch on a beautiful day. Valet parking is the only option. Cocktails were good, prices fair. It was quiet outside and much noisier inside with all hard surfaces and a busy dining area. The Canoe Manhattan was definitely spirit forward (packs a punch) and the Tom Riddle a nice change of pace both of which I'd get again. The "Canoe's Cold Smoked Salmon, Crispy Potato Cake, Creamy Goat's Cheese, Caper-Dill Cream" was listed as an appetizer, but we made an entree out of it. Apparently, a signature dish that was really good with textures and flavors that hit the mark. I had the Cod; it was . . . . Cod, nothing to write home about but it was fine. Whatever you do don't miss the Popcorn Ice Cream Sundae . . . to DIE for! Would definitely return but may be more inclined to sit out at the outside bar along the river with the beet salad, smoked salmon, and that to die for popcorn ice cream sundae! Heard about the place for dinner, but tried for Sunday brunch. They have valet parking and when you walk in, you're greeted and shown to your table. Chris, was our waiter and because it was my first time, he gave us a little moment of history and reviewed their menu items. The brunch menu was quite smaller than what i expected and there wasn't much room choose from (starter; appetizers; entree, dessert). We ordered the smoked salmon appetizer which was good, but heavy on the cream cheese. Was told about the rainbow trout which was not on the menu but it was ordered. It was good, but wish the grits were more on a creamier side. I also ordered an espresso martini with baileys. They have a patio area that I would like to try and I like how the waiter was attentive. It was a little packed when we arrived so it was a little noisy but it all simmered down as time went on. I will definitely be back; for dinner though. read more

Thursday night treat. Canoe is a great spot. The chef is Australian, and the menu reflects that influence. I had a light dinner with a side cesar and kangaroo appetizer. The cesar was good and dressed appropriately. I went a little on the wild side with the kangaroo. The kangaroo was cooked perfectly. The biggest feedback was the competing flavors. It was prepared with a pepper crust and sweet sauce. I found that the pepper was a little too much and the sauce was too sweet which confused the taste a little rather than complimenting it. We had a great experience here dining for our one-year anniversary. The service was stellar, and the views are unbeatable. We visited back in September, so the weather was perfect to sit on the patio and look out onto the Chattahoochee River. We loved the cold smoked salmon served on a potato cake for our appetizer. That is a dish I would return for! I don't remember what I had for an entree, but I really liked the atmosphere at this place, so I'll be back for another special occasion. Our server was Manny, and he was the ultimate professional yet super friendly. We appreciated his recommendations, and he was attentive yet we never felt rushed. We had a mother-daughter brunch at Canoe. It was funny that all 7 of us ordered the same meal - "The Riverside". It was delicious, but I must say it came with an extreme amount of bacon! (I brought mine home for the hubby.). I did substitute the hash brown with their grits, and they were so good. The berry french toast was also quite yummy. Our servers were excellent. My water glass stayed full! We sat at a round table which was perfect and allowed us to chat freely. We were having such a good time that we completely forgot to check out the river view! I attended a special private event at Canoe. It's one of my favorite places in Atlanta but this was my first opportunity to attend a private event. There is an option of valet parking or self-parking and it's your choice. Lovely location and fantastic setting with outstanding food !!! Private event is hosted in a room right after the entrance. 4 round tables were set with 5-6 people per table. Spacious and comfortable. There was a set menu with couple choices. It was catered based on the folks preferred choices that were asked before. Menu is in the pictures. Smoked salmon appetizer is my favorite of all !!! And was very excited to see that in menu. All the appetizers were offered one by one and in very professional manner with the right spacing. Halibut melted like a butter and every single dish was as simply phenomenal !!! We got the oysters because oysters are vitamins. If they are on the menu, I am ordering them. They were perfectly cold and briny. The bread basket is a huge show here. Go for it and get one of each. I came here for my dad's birthday with my family and the food was so good. I'm not much of a fry girl, but LOVEDDDD the truffle fries! They had such a good flavor and texture and there were so many. The oysters were good. Not sure what the sauce was but it was slightly herby but also maybe pickled and that was good. Also the shrimp salad was tasty and had SOOOO MUCH shrimp. Our service was also great. I can't remember our waiters name, but he really made our experience great. The ambiance and service are nice. Unfortunately that was the best part of my experience. we visited for lunch and the menu is small but diverse. We tried the shrimp rolls (they were okay) and a salad. The caesar salad had noticeably wilted/brown leaves, the dressing was definitely from a bottle/not fresh and the croutons tasted frozen. There was so much dressing on the salad that it accentuated the wilted sogginess of the lettuce. The bread service was my personal favorite part (one slice of sourdough bread with butter) which says a lot about the food experience. The fish sandwich left much to be desired. It was not well seasoned, the fries were standard. The burger was alright but nothing to write home about. The same wittedness was present in the lettuce on the sandwich. Finally, we were ready to pay and saw that the dessert menu was brought but by that time we were pretty over the food. Save your money and DONT eat here. I'm sorry, I really hate to give bad reviews but this place is lacking in most aspects. The food, abysmal for the price. Let's start with the salmon appetizer. Enough cheese to clog an artery and over powered the salmon. The bed of potatoes they were on were so crunchy and hard that you'd better make sure you have dental insurance first. When it came to dinner I thought I'd place it safe with a burger. I ordered medium. Overcooked and charred. Fries were ok but this shouldn't be a highlight of my meal. My wife had cod which was loaded with onions. This along with crazy high prices... hard pass. Service was eh. Had a reservation. Had to wait for our table still. Our server wasn't bad but not great. It was our anniversary and they decided to "give us" a scoop of ice cream. The Happy Anniversary had been wiped and we saw a charge for the ice cream. Luckily they took it off before the CC was charged. I've had better ice cream out of a tub. Parking not great. Had to valet which is complimentary but when we left had to wait 15min to even get the car. The restaurant was super crowded so also hard to hear and cheap seats. Felt like I was seated at a Golden Corral. Lastly the bathrooms. One urinal for the men's and two stalls...For such a busy place this isn't adequate. This is probably just my two cents. read more

It has been 5 years since I've been to Canoe, but they have not lost a step. They showed why they are still one of the best destinations in Atlanta. Their service here is just top notch from the moment you walk in the door. Hospitality has declined even in the best restaurants, but Canoe still holds it to a very high standard. They worked as a team to ensure we had everything we needed and each person was so friendly. The food is absolutely delicious and a work of art. The smoked salmon is a staple here and still one of my favorite appetizers anywhere. They had some great oysters here too. For an entree I had venison. I've never in my life had venison that is as tender and juicy as this one. Such a lean meat is difficult to get right and they cooked it to perfection. It has the perfect amount of coco rub and the risotto with it was very nutty and well prepared. The night we went was Valentine's and normally Valentine's anywhere is such a mess. Everything here ran smoothly and they you wouldn't really know it was Valentine's Day by how great it was. They didn't overcrowd the restaurant and wanted to ensure everyone had a great experience which is another nod to their exceptional service. I only had two critiques. One was a salad on the menu. The sweet gem was a great concept but they did not trim the lettuce enough. It had the entire core going all the way to the root and the core of sweet gem is very bitter. It's significantly more bitter than frisee or radicchio and made parts of the salad almost inedible. Also the bacon while flavorful was not cooked much and the fat was not rendered. I don't even know if they wanted it to be crispy but it still needed a touch more heat to it. Lastly they had a very limited menu here for Valentine's Day. I specifically asked when I made my reservation and they said they did not have a limited menu planned. Although that was nearly two months in advance, I wish I had known. It seems to be more common but for this place I thought it would be unnecessary. They see good enough to offer their full menu here and I wish they would have as some of the items we were looking forward to was not available. read more

Canoe is an expensive restaurant; know that before you go. The grounds are beautiful with the Chattahoochee river as its backdrop. The interior is well laid out and tasteful. We had kangaroo, scallops,and squash soup as appetizers. The scallops were absolutely delicious, not at all fishy tasting. Four of us had the beef tenderloin which was tender and flavorful. I recommend it!!! I would not normally order duck but did so, and to my amazement it was delicious. It was not fatty nor undercooked. Perfect. The deserts were absolutely amazing. We had a sampling of several which we shared . While the popcorn desert doesn't sound good it was worth trying. As usual, the service was outstanding: attentive without being annoying.
