I can't speak for anything else on the menu, but the halo halo and calamari were really disappointing and expensive for what they were. I had family visiting and they were craving halo halo on their last night here, so I found Backstreet Asia and drove them out here. We ordered the calamari first while waiting for dessert, but it was too salty. I had also ordered myself an ube ice cream while the other 3 got one halo halo for themselves -- all of which took a long time to come out, and we had to remind the servers twice about my ice cream. There weren't many other customers when we were there either. The ube ice cream ended up being 1 very small, stingy scoop, and my family was super disappointed when the halo halo arrived. It wasn't sweet at all and lacked many typical halo halo ingredients (the menu hadn't listed the ingredients so we assumed it would be there). When we asked for something to sweeten it like condensed milk, they said they didn't have it and only had syrup, which I found strange. We also had an uncomfortable interaction with the server too. In the end we brought the halo halo back home and added some of our own leche flan, buko pandan, and evaporated milk. It was disappointing we had to pay what we did for the taste we got. I am so disappointed. I love Filipino Food and really miss it since leaving California. That's why I was so excited when I found Backstreet Asia on Yelp. I couldn't wait to try their Lumpia an Adobo. I ordered through Yelp for delivery.The food arrived about 45 minutes later, still warm. That part of the process went flawlessly. The real disappointment was the food. I have had a lot of Chicken Adobo and know what it should taste like. It should have a garlicky soy flavor with the tang of vinegar. The chicken was so dry that it was like leather to tear and did not have the familiar flavors that I was looking for. It must have been in a warmer for hours. On to the Sisig. The chunks of pork looked larger in the photos. In reality, they were about the size of a pencil eraser and again, completely dried out. l The vegetable Pancit was okay but had only tiny shavings of vegetables that I ordered. The fried cauliflower was not too bad and a pretty good spin on cauliflower. The garlic rice was just okay and nothing special. Last, my favorite dish is Lumpia. While they were okay I didn't see any of the vegetable ingredients that I was accustomed to and they were smaller than I had enjoyed in the past. No sweet chili sauce was included. The high prices and small portion sizes were kind of the worst insult after such a disastrous meal. The Sisig was $17, Cauliflower $7, Chicken Adobo leg and thigh was $16, Pancit, was $10 and garlic fried rice was $5.00. The Lumpia was the most expensive and advertised as $9 for six. When selected, it is another $9 if you want it to be pork or chicken. That's $18 for six Lumpia. I ordered 12 for a total of $36.00. I had hoped that they were larger. With delivery fee, tax, tip it was over $130.00. For that price, we should have had lot's of leftovers, but didn't. Last, when clicking the link to their Website, I get an warning saying the site has been compromised. Oh my fishes the Lechon Kawaii was spectacular. The accompanying sauce is liver based and so good. The pork belly is fried and perfectly seasoned and salty. Just to die for! Even better than the good was chatting with the lovely couple that own this establishment. Their love story was so fun to hear! I highly recommend dropping in and exploring the flavors! What a treat to dine at Backstreet Asia. When visiting Phoenix, I always try to find the best Asian restaurants, and I'm surprised it took me this long. First, they have events and karaoke on the weekends. I so happened to come during the week. Boo... I met Lin, the chef/ owner, and she was very nice and personable. We chatted it up a bit. On this visit we shared Lumpia, BBQ spare ribs, pork sinigand, and garlic fried rice. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful and well-balanced. Chef Linchilan is an incredible chef, who uses only the freshest ingredients and seasonings. I think my favorite item was the Lumpia, it had a great savory flavor and the sweet chili sauce was the perfect pairing. Service was great the only server they had she was nice, friendly and so helpful. It doesn't look like it gets busy at all, I was their in the evening and wasn't busy at all. We were really looking forward to dining at this restaurant, especially after reading so many glowing reviews and choosing it as the spot to celebrate my mom's birthday. She was especially excited, having spent a lot of time researching places for this special day. While we didn't want to dampen the occasion we decided not to speak to staff, we ultimately felt it was important to share our experience. When we arrived, we were the only table in the restaurant. As we began to order, we were told that two of the dishes we wanted--meals for two out of the three of us--were unavailable. While this was disappointing, we adjusted and ordered the Lumpia, Chicken Pancit Bison, Chicken Singaporean Noodles, Chicken Fried Rice, and Spicy Bulgogi. The Lumpia arrived first and was hot and tasty, which gave us hope. However, we then waited another 45 minutes for the rest of the food--despite being the only guests in the restaurant. When it finally came, everything was cold except for the Spicy Bulgogi. The chicken in several dishes was severely overcooked and dry (as shown in the photo), and the Fried Rice tasted stale and far from fresh. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I had a great meal with my sister here. We went for the Kamayan dinner , and it did not disappoint. We are Filipino, so we looking forward to a good meal. The lechon kawali and lumpia were on point. First the portions are SUPER small and disappointing, I don't even eat that much and it didn't fill me up. My fish balls are small too and had no brown sauce. They gave me vinegar so that was super disappointing since I was expecting the brown sauce like how they usually serve it. Sisig was flavorless, and I had to season it myself. Pretty much the only Filipina restaurant on the West Side. I had the Lumpia appetizer and the Kare Kare Pork. I've been to MANY other Filipino Restaurants around the US and this one is average! Really had high hopes for this place after reading the yelp reviews but after visiting this spot on a Saturday around 1pm that all changed. First the place was empty. Had to ring the bell to get seated. Saw ads that a DJ was supposed to be spinning there from 10-2pm. DJ was setting up at 2pm. Now to the food. We ordered Sisigsilog, pancit & an order of lumpia that was not on the menu for some odd reason. Food arrived pretty quick which was great since I was starving. When placing the order I also asked for a side of tocino which is listed on the menu which was not available according to the server. Sisigsilog was a single small pyramid of "garlic fried rice" which was missing actual garlic. A paltry and dried portion of mostly overcooked chopped lechon. Not a lot of the meat and mostly fatty parts in it . There were no peppers, onions or garlic to be seen cooked into the Sisig. Just a few green onions on top as garnish. Also 2 slices of pickled daikon? I feel like this was the attempt at atchara on the side. The order of lumpia was 6 skinny pieces. Nothing special and very disappointing considering it was $7.50. Now the biggest problem was the chicken pancit. Looked to be like bihon style. Flavor was way off. I took one bite and knew something was off. My partner also tried it and said it tasted like an "old dish rag" to be safe we didn't eat anymore since my guess was it was spoiled. Starting off with the ambiance. As soon as you enter through the doors you instantly know it's a Pinoy restaurant. Reminds of back home where you have the dining area and the bar enjoying some drinks singing karaoke. But the stage is not big we came for lunch and it was not busy. I'm giving this place five stars, because I want to encourage this sort of business here in the west valley. Their food is good. Their service is good. Everything is *GOOD*. I just don't know enough about Filipino cuisine to really know what's "authentic" or not, but I do know that I enjoyed our meal here. We spoke with the owner for awhile- she was really nice and it's obvious that she's really putting her heart and soul into this place. They *JUST* got their liquor license and their bar, and I believe she said that they're doing weekly karaoke and a lot of hangouts here, so if you're looking for a good bar to hang out at then this could be your spot. They've got some really interestingly authentic (to me) Filipino food, and it might have some flavors that you aren't used to, but give it a try and you might like it! We got the igado (liver) and the beef red curry, and both were really tasty. Next time we want to try some of the skewers and some of their other dishes. Some reviews have said that their food isn't "authentic". We asked the owner about it, and she said that she tried to make the food a little healthier, sometimes substituting oil for rendered fat and other more health-conscious decisions.
