I've been here a couple of times and it's hit or miss with service and food. The first time we went was great, next two times were meh, and the last time the food was pretty darn good. It's almost like they get a different cook all the time. I definitely think if they can keep some consistency they would be spot on. I'm rating the indoor dining area only and not the outdoor pool/sushi bar (which I want to try and will update my review when I do). We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, hot wings, jalapeño poppers, and club sandwich. It was a lot of food! Fair warning the poppers are priced individually and there's a reason why....they're HUGE! One per person (even two people) is plenty. The food was good but could have been a tad warmer. Bonus, they had coffee which many places around the lake don't have. Negative, they didn't have beer on tap, so my spouse settled for bottled (not sure if that's new and/or a safety thing?). All in all, I know for sure we will be back and I hope to try their swim up order area for the experience. A fun thing to do is watch people park their boats (free entertainment) and leftover fries can be fed to the massive fat fish and turtles by the docks. read more

So. Much. Fun. My friends and I definitely enjoyed the swim up bar!! The tables in the water were super convenient as well! I like that drinking water is available for you to dispense yourself. It's definitely important to keep hydrated while drinking alcohol in the sun all day- and I wouldn't have liked bothering the busy bartenders for water! Atmosphere is fun but management and ownership is awful. I was with a group of 6 total, including my husband. As I was getting out of the pool a guy smacked my butt. Security did not throw him out and the owners (who were clearly wasted) threatened to throw our group out for causing a scene. It took over 15 minutes to get this bachelor party removed. Then the bartender said they would close our tab for us so we didn't have to go to the bar and charge us the 20% gratuity. Finally, on the last night of our vacation, a delicious meal. Who knew you could get one on the Lake of the Ozarks? For apps, you HAVE to get the crab rangoons. They actually taste crabby and not just cheesy. The jalapeño poppers are excellent as well--the raspberry sauce on the side is to die for. Since it was "raw Thursday" I got 10 boiled shrimp. They were pretty bland and did not taste like they were "boiled in Cajun spices". However, the side of the amazing potato salad stole the meal. My family kept sneaking forkfuls and for a good reason-the fried potato cubes were out of this world. Backwater Jack's is worth the out of the way drive. Yum. read more

This was a pretty cool place. The only chore was parking the boat. After nearly colliding with four or five other boats, we nestled in to our little boat slip and walked on in. Was a tight fit. Slammed a couple drinks before taking on some oysters and seafood quesadillas. Hung out in the pool for a bit. While in the pool I got hit on by some 20 year old girl. Now I am 32 years old, overweight, grey receding hair. She was either extremely intoxicated, blind, or both. I couldn't hear a damn thing she was saying but I do believe she was trying to get me to pay for a drink. She abruptly left after I pulled a few crumpled/wet $1 bills out of my pocket and told her I voted for Trump. Then I walked around the bar in search of a drunk friend who, unbeknownst to us, stumbled back onto the boat and passed out. He later became confrontational and aggressive with the rest of us, accusing us of stealing his sandals and $20. In town from Kansas City. I found this place off of yelp and wanted to give it a try. I really wanted one of the seafood pasta dishes but decided not to because it was served with imitation crab. Instead, I ordered the Cuban Sandwich with fries and it was okay. My wife ordered their Jack's CBD with fries and loved it. Things have changed at Backwater Jack's. They have a swimming pool with a swim-up bar. So crazy but neat. The extra large crab rangoon are particularly good, and I would recommend them. It's a good spot for people and boat watching and just enjoying a meal lakeside. read more

This place would probably get a 4 or 5 star from me if the red headed man that is a bar tender wasn't such an p**k. I strait told him after he was so rude to me, that we were just trying to have a good time it was my friends birthday and we were from out of town and he just seemed upset/mad......he replied "ITS JUST MY FACE" and immediately walked away and didn't acknowledge us again. Still waiting for sushi that a person who took our order for is off work now, so I have no idea what's going on. The oysters aren't bad but we got them drowning in water, I had to pick them up and set them on top of each other so that the oysters aren't drowning in some gross water. I tried the sushi bar.. squid salad is good but for the price you pay, you think you'd get more than a few bites. The sushi isn't bad but damn.. I spent $50 on sushi that I could've probably gotten from Hy-Vee. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't pay for it again. I was a part of a huge bachelorette party with 20 plus girls. We were very excited to come to backwater because we've heard nothing but great things. As soon as we showed up (more than an hour before last call) the bouncer actually told us we shouldn't be there because we wouldn't have fun. I believe it is extremely unprofessional and rude that an employee is saying his place of employment is not a fun time. With 20 plus girls, and our moms, they lost out on hundreds of dollars in sales. We were just looking for a good time and we got tuned off so much because of how we were talked down to. After waiting nearly a full period of Blues hockey waiting on a table we were sat at a half dirty table only to have to use the table paper towels to wipe the table down ( due to excessive stickiness). Appetizers took quite a while but the at least showed up. Which is better than the waitress. After waiting an additional 30 min to order we were finally told 40 minutes later that not only were they out of items but she also "forgot" to place our entree orders. Some days ya just wish Yelp allowed 1/2 stars. This is probably a 1.5 star I guess if your on the water and need prepared, served food this place would be an option. By car? I'd think there may be better options. There is outdoor seating at (not on) the lake. We were in for a late lunch. Service was friendly but not sanitary minded. They removed our plastic, disposable cups for water refills multiple times by grabbing the tops of the cups with bare hands. Took them to....who knows? Outside of our view. All 4 of us felt our food was frozen or trucked in. Nothing was fresh. The chips and salsa included salsa from a jar and stale chips. Funny enough, we fed a lot of our food selections to the carp. There are stairs leading down to the lake where a multitude of carp wait for leftovers. I wouldn't recommend this selection, unless you were grabbing a quick drink while on the lake.
