In response to the response from Backyard Coffeehouse: That all sounds lovely about handrolled artisanal bagels from Portland, but I'm telling you the bagel I had was stale and barely edible. Frankly, I'm insulted by your response in that you imply it's MY fault I didn't like the disgusting bagel I was served, since you apologized for me not liking the "artisanal style of bagel" as if I'm not refined or cultured enough to appreciate it. I assure you that's not it. The bagel was crap. I live in NYC and am lucky enough to have several options for delicious, handrolled, FRESH artisanal bagels and I love them! So I'm pretty sure my bagel was just terrible and the issue is not that I'm too dumb to know what a good bagel is. Oh and also, when I complained about my bagel being cold the barista said it had been "toasted at some point," which is completely unacceptable as all bagels should only be toasted after the customer requests it...and you never even mentioned that in your response. You were too busy blaming my crappy bagel experience on me being an uncouth heathen. read more

Cold baristas and warm drinks. I think when you're from NY, you expect great service and flavor. I didn't get either. I took great pics though and the drink looked beautiful, but was almost flavorless. Sandwich was meh. Salad was meh as dressing was terrible and lettuce was hard. I wouldn't return. read more

Fast becoming our favorite coffee spot in OGT!!! The owner is always there and welcomes you with a smile. The coffee is flavorful (and I drink it black) and hot. Breakfast sandwiches are yummy especially with the sundried tomato spread. The lunch sandwiches are innovate and delicious on artisan breads. They are also dog friendly with a bowl of water outside and treats for man's best friend! All in all a great addition to OGT's dining options! read more

Great coffee, fantastic pastries. We liked it so much we came back every morning during our stay in Ogunquit and bought "road supplies" for our trip back to Boston. The strawberry biscuits are a thing of beauty. Crusty (in a good way) on the outside and moist on the inside. I spent every visit trying to figure out how to recreate them at home. I've seen a few reviews referring to this place as "hipster". If this place is hipster then buy me a typewriter collection and call me Zooey Deschanel, because Sweet Fancy Moses, those biscuits are worth it. read more

In the land of Dunkin Donuts, I found this gem that could make me a non-dairy espresso drink of considerable caffeine strength, within walking distance of where I was staying in Maine during vacation! Didn't try any of the pastries or muffins, but I did hang out a bit in the outdoor tables...relaxing, but not much of a view, considering it was overlooking the busy parking lot and Main St. Their biodegradable straws weren't really a match for the strong cup cover...it kept being pinched closed and collapsing...either change the cover or change the straws, Backyard! I want to be able to sip my expensive coffee easily. Ok, so it is a little bit pricey...actually, aLOT pricey, to the tune of almost $6 for an iced soy latte. Makes Starbucks look like a bargain in comparison. I did like the coffee related decor and signage on the walls though..."all you need is love and a good cup of coffee". read more

Loving this place!! FINALLY a nice place to hang out, get great sandwiches, and bring my laptop to get some work done! The staff is super friendly and do a great job. Coffee is great, food is great, atmosphere is great. There's some fun photography up right now, and hopefully they'll be rotating in stuff from other artists as well to keep things interesting! Only complaint is that one of the days I went was really hot, and it was a little uncomfortable in there without some A/C on, but that should only happen a few days a year so I understand not investing in that! This is a great coffee shop with both good coffee and nice small meals. It was comforting to know the whole staff was vaccinated. They had good gluten free options and free wifi. This place has the best coffee!! Never have had anything better! I strongly recommend the blood orange ice tea! Also the customer service was AMAZING, they answered all our questions and would apologize if they had messed up our order! They also will remember your name after going there for a while. The food here is awesome - our group ordered lobster rolls, a fantastic avocado BLT, local beer, a beautiful latté, a salad, and dessert and enjoyed it outside. The only reason I give this a four star review is because of Ogunquit's predatory parking ticketing. One car in our party was parked for just shy of an hour right in front of the restaurant in a 30 minute spot (most of the spots in front of the restaurant are 30 minutes) and got a $40 ticket. It seems like a charming downtown with lovely local spots, but the town needs to seriously reconsider its predatory parking practices on tourists. That said, if you can find a 2 hour spot, go to this restaurant. read more

As I was walking back from the beach to my car on a hot day I passed Backyard Coffeehouse and decided to stop in. It is an adorable little place, nicely decorated and has items for sale/a donation jar benefiting animal charities, which I really appreciate. I just got an iced coffee, but boy was it delicious. I want to love backyard, I really do. We dropped $42 today on two egg/bacon/avocado sandwiches and two lattes. I wasn't sweating the money because the food looked delish, we were with friends enjoying the sunny day, etc. But then our order was messed up, and serious attitude was thrown at my husband as he patiently waited for them to rectify it. Snippy comments as he stood there waiting for them to make the correct order while the rest of our group ate. It was a shame! The food was delicious when served, but it took forever, and he was blamed for a miscommunication between counter person and kitchen- forget any kind of an acknowledgement for messing up the order/ taking up our time. Every time I have been here it takes forever. The counter people are so friendly and the vibe is good when you walk in, but something is always off here with the timing, etc. Also: everything is disposable and there is no recycling. Want a fork? You are using a plastic fork and trashing it after. The overflowing garbage going into the landfill is depressing. Especially when so many businesses (Bread and Roses, etc) are doing what they can to minimize trash through recycling and composting. I grew up in Ogunquit and really want to see this business thrive. The food is quite good but for the cost you expect more, at least basic courtesy. For the price we could have had brunch at Roost with table service. read more

Great coffee, I had the mocha and it was excellent! Great 50's & 60's rock and roll music added to the charm of the cafe. Decorated with repurposed woods from farm houses really makes this place feel more at home. Service was excellent and the place is very very clean! This eatery is aptly named, at least for us because we literally walk thru our rentals backyard to get here. And considering that the 3 minute walk is technically exercise I have no problem glomming on all the delectable offerings. Sandwiches, bagels, muffins and scones all homemade. What a great find. We happened to be turning around and this place was in the back of a Cumberland Farms parking lot. Went there twice. The Bard coffee they served was terrific along with the pastries (cinnamon donut muffin). We had some bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches that were terrific. The in-laws had roast beef sandwiches that they said needed more horseradish sauce, but I think their taste buds are blown out from all the spicy foods they eat. Very friendly staff with indoor/outdoor seating. Nice atmosphere (hipster/bohemian). I would recommend this place when looking for a good coffee/sandwich hangout and will return when passing through Ogunquit. read more

The atmosphere is wonderful and rustic. We ordered two sandwiches (which were fresh and delicious) and two mocha lattes. The coffees were expensiveish ($5) but worth it because they were 20 ounces. There were some tourists but other than that it was a peaceful. A nice place to get work done if need be. read more

Just what we wanted for lunch. Left the beach and after short walk got healthy freshly made salads and sandwiches. Didn't want sit down restaurant for lunch and this was perfect. Tuna salad has onions so that was a no go. Chicken salad very light on the mayo w some cranberries and then over nice greens was yummy. Husband really liked his lobster roll. Again light on the mayo w nice green salad. Hummus pretty bland but salt and pepper help. Toast w pb and bananas is more of a sandwich. Actually wound have preferred open face toast w less bread and more peanut butter and bananas. Writing more because kept going back.... chai latte excellent and not sweet. A perfectly cute and respectable coffee shop tucked away off the main drag in Ogunquit. While the decor and artwork felt slightly contrived to me, the aesthetic (lots of wooden tables) was pretty nice, and the outdoor patio was spacious and lovely! I had a Vietnamese coffee, which was very underwhelming and basically just tasted like drip coffee with some milk and sugar. A bummer. The baked goods, however, looked impressive and tasty, they have a sizable menu of good sounding things, and my friend's iced Americano was on point! read more
