The name Bad Monkey drew us in! Came to OC for day with a couple girl friends. Driving down Coastal Highway looking for food. Saw Bad Monkey and immediately said sounds like a fun time. Cute beach bar/restaurant. Upstairs and downstairs dining with a shop with merchandise. All employees had on masks, tables were far enough apart for social distancing. Food was good. My gfs loved the wings, old bay and lemon garlic. No fresh mozzarella so couldn't get my Caprese Sub. Ended up with the Big Kids Grilled Cheese. 3 different cheeses, tomato and bacon. Pretty tasty. The wait was a bit long, but definitely worth it. Food was very tasty and the waitress was very attentive to our large group.

The Funky Monkey breakfast was good . I had French toast, scrambled eggs, and white toast. The syrup an butter weren't very tasty. Syrup was runny and just overly sweet. Didn't really taste the maple. The butter did not taste like butter. It didn't really have a taste. Other than that, everything else was pretty good. The restaurant was packed. You can eat upstairs or downstairs. They even have a gift shop in the building. You can purchase a mug, tee-shirt, sweatshirt and other things. The prices are a little high but items are from the brand name, Bad Monkey. I collected colors of the mugs do I bought a few. Also I bought one or two sweatshirts. I liked them, cozy and pretty colors. The parking wasn't too bad they have parking in the front and back of the restaurant. As people pulled into eat, others pulled out to leave. With respect to the actual food. They all tasted mild and decent. Mild in a way that it was not much flavor but good enough to enjoy. Well back to the same old Monkey Crap for 2024... This place is just getting more used, abused and even more overpriced. Dirty is an understatement especially for $17 eggs. Monkey bread still either under or over cooked. Still charging for more than one piece per person too. My breakfast tacos were slopped together and chorizo was under cooked. The wife added chocolate chips to the her pancakes only to find the bacon, eggs and toast to also be covered in chocolate. So for basically $20 her breakfast was lightly chocolate coated. The best part was I ordered 2 orders of side eggs with each meal. Thinking $2-3 tops per egg to add. Nope! They charge me for 2 more full meals at $13.50 each and bought a small fruit cup to, that I didn't ask for. So are breakfast was $91 after tip for 2 people with NO alcohol! We've been coming here since they opened...always found it a nice place...went there this past weekend and was told by the bartender, very proudly I might add, that they no longer serve Bud light...you would think someone with purple hair would be more tolerant of alternate lifestyles....unfortunate when it's better for business to embrace hate and bigotry rather than inclusivity and tolerance....what's next? It's almost bittersweet that we didn't try Bad Monkey until the day we were leaving OC after a bachelorette girl's weekend with some girlfriends. Ok, so they have this shop downstairs which is where we all bought our swag and monkey bread after we had a seated lunch upstairs. They had stairs and an elevator which is convenient and thoughtful for the differently able patrons that may visit. We headed upstairs and since I was nursing a hangover from a last night hoorah with my girlfriends and birdman (inside joke), I decided to order a Death Become You Amber Ale to settle my tum. We went in on lunch. I ordered the Hitman with the marinara on the side. Don't do that! Order that shit like they have it stated on the menu! I wasn't sure if it was going to be a super acidic tomato sauce. It is not! It is more like a hearty bolognese and I was half kicking myself for not having it served on my sammie and half kicking myself that I didn't order a vat of it to take home. Very good! I kept it simple with chips on the side. The portions are huge. You will not be disappointed. Some of the others at the table ordered the Tree Hugger, Chicken Cheesesteak Your Way and The Hell Burger and everyone enjoyed their food. I don't think any of us finished our meals but we definitely brought our doggie bags back to NY. I'm happy to have tried Bad Monkey and next year when we make a return visit to OC, I'm definitely heading back. Definitely. Final points: Sorry I was so enthralled by the food. I've been to bad monkey several times. For some reason, as always end up here each and every year we go to OCMD, sometimes twice. It's a convenient location to where to typically stay, so that probably explains it. One thing to keep in mind is that bad monkey is very small. I would not recommend it for large groups unless you go at an odd time. The service can sometimes be on the slower side, but the staff is friendly. Sitting at the bar is always an option as well. As for the food, all pretty decent. Breakfast is served in the morning then switches to a different menu for lunch / dinner. Both menus, in my opinion, have a decent selection. Several sandwiches, a few salads, some fried options... nothing fancy. They offer a happy hour special, drinks are 2 for 1 but you must get the same drink to get the deal. I recommend an orange crush. Their is a sub shop located downstairs, which I think is the same owner, and it is also pretty good. The bathrooms aren't air conditioned, so they get a little muggy. This place was a little confusing. You walk up the stairs and there is a little merch shop and walk up counter. We wanted to sit down and eat and noticed stairs along the side. We walked up and it seems like we walked up the wrong entrance. We had to walk through diners to get to the hostess table. It took us about 15 mins to get a table for 6 on a Saturday evening. Not terrible. This place was loud! There is a loud echo. I must have lost some hearing in this place. Thankfully, we sat under a large fan and we got plenty of cool air. As an appetizer, we ordered the crab dip. I would probably pass on this. There wasn't that much flavor to this at all. It was creamy but didn't have a strong crab taste to it. I ordered their Keto burger but non keto style (I like my carbs). The burger came with giant rings of jalapeno, avocado and cheese. There was also a side of crispy bacon. Their fries were a lot smaller than normal cut fries but not shoe string either. They were okay but nothing special. There was no seasoning on it.
