Second time here tonight, celebrating mom's birthday and decide to give a more detail review. But picture was first time when I went with hubby. Environment: I don't think they did much remodels from the previous Newport Seafood Grill. But they kept it pretty clean and comfortable over all, add some music would be good tho. Bar side is great for night out with hubby or girlfriends, and the main dining side is great for casual dining, family gathering and party, pretty rooming spaces. Staff/Service: Management is definitely still working on stable staffing and training new staffs. Since the establishment is so new so I am not deducting stars for their service but it can definitely improve. They've got a cute robot to deliver their food right up to the table. But staffs need to be more attentive like refilling water and offer more wet wipes, new paper tray more often, since it can get pretty messy you know. We met the owner Jim, very nice guy and attentive and helped us with our needs. Food/drink: For drink, they have a full bar and got some specialty drinks. I got a classic margarita, pretty good and standard. Appetizer we got garlic fries, fried calamari, BBQ chicken wings, and clam chowder. Good portion, fried calamari also comes with a LOT of fries. So maybe next time we would just skip the garlic fries. Main dish we ordered combo 1, 2, 3 with garlic butter, Louisiana, and lemon pepper flavor. Kids also ordered a chicken tender basket that also came with lots of fries. If you like garlic, their garlic butter flavor is a must try. My daughter who can't eat spicy love the garlic flavor and dipping the sauce for her fries as well. I like the Louisiana flavor more, because it got some heat to it and also very flavorful. Over all, I think the combo is better deal than order individually. It comes with the seafood and the sausage, corn and potato. Price range is on the higher side, but with seafood I think they are pretty reasonable. 9 people with the food above came to $200 even, we had some good amount of left over as well. The food at this establishment is delicious. The seasoning was flavorful but not overbearing. The service was top notch. I had the combo 3 with two different types of crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn. The portions were great and it was enough food for two. My daughter got the seafood spaghetti which is more of an Alfredo but it was rich and creamy and she really enjoyed it. I would have given it 5 stars because the food was all excellent and there needs 8 of us. Everyone was very happy with their dinner. The problem was that the service was a bit slow after we got our dinner like ordering more drinks, primarily. But....I know how hard it's been to hire and keep servers since restaurants opened up after Covid. I had the bag of lobster, corn on the cob and potatoes. Others had shrimp, crab and more. All were very happy with their dinners. And a little robot who took our meal to our table even sang Happy Birthday to me. So cute. We arrived at 4:08 pm The dining room was not open. We were greated by a hostess who handed us menus and we were motioned to the bar and she said "you can sit in there but I can't do past here" meaning she could not cross into the bar because she was under 21. We sat at the third booth on the right. We reviewed the menu, and decided to have the #3 combo and add Louisiana sausage and something else which I don't remember. About 9 minutes went by. No no other customers came in. I saw what appeared to be a manager sitting at the bar doing something on a tablet. There two waitresses talking at the end of the bar. We were never spoken to. I told my husband if nobody comes in one minute we are leaving. He set his timer on his phone for one minute. I said that's the manager over there. He man looked up and looked back at his tablet or phone or whatever he wa using. The timer hit one minute. We got up and left! They lost out. We are at Red Lobster having great service and our order is in and we're happy having drinks and yummy hir biscuits. We will NEVER go back to Bag of Crap. First time at a Bag o Crab. My daughter and I went there for my retirement dinner. Food was delicious (we used to go to Red Lobster for Crab) this beat Red Lobster's crab, hands down. If you like it spicy go with the medium, that's what I had and it actually had my sinuses running. The robot was a winner, my daughter actually had her picture taken with it. Okay, I'm gonna try to be polite. But lemme tell you; stay away from here, i beg of you. Service: it seems that the day I decided to go, all of the staff were on their first day. I took my family out, a total of 5 people with only one being a child. I was severely disappointed with how the waitress spoke to us, described items from the menu, her lack of ability to speak loud enough to hear, patience, and her understanding that water should be kept full. Call me old fashioned, but if I'm being waited on and have to ASK, TWICE, to have some more water with salty seafood, and then sit there like a shmo for ten more minutes, the tip dwindles with every passing second. She also didn't seem to understand the concept of a side salad with the sauce on the side. Also, the roaming robots?! What a farce. It rolled over to us. I ain't reaching over behind my shoulder and grabbing my own food with waitresses all over the place. Fortunately however, two of them followed it out to then pass the food to our table. All while forgetting entire items, and not asking who got what. The building is old, I get it. But water stains on the carpet? Nice touch, really reminds me that the ocean is wet. Lastly, and the main reason I'm leaving such a warm review: MY 8 YEAR OLD SON GOT RSV FROM THAT PLACE! Yup. My healthy 8 year old is now on an inhaler, and most of his 2023 holiday season has been ruined. Wash your hands people, it's not a new concept. I live less than 10 minutes from the Salem location, where this all took place. It's very hard for me not to go in there and start a riot over this. Food places should, at least in theory, be one of the healthier environments folks can enjoy. So this is how my dinner at Bag O' Crab went last night and my opinion. Please read if your planning on eating there. 1. The service was TERRIBLE 2. I couldn't even tell you if the food was good or not. I'm NOT a picky person and I do let things go. I understand serving people is not a easy job. So here is how the night went.... We made a phone reservation for 7pm. They didn't honor it. They just seat people when they get there. So we DIDN'T have a table and opted to sit at a table in the bar. We were given menu's and after 30 minutes she came to get our DRINK and FOOD order. We got our drinks 10 minutes later. I was with Lynn and my daughter Kari. We all ordered a meal with salads and a cup of chowder. 35 minutes after ordering our salads came. Well actually only 2 salads came when there should have been 3. We had 2 with thousand island and one with ranch. One came out right one came out with some weird house dressing. By the way none of the other ones had NO salad dressing on them. We had to call the girl over to correct it (The robot brought it). Needless to say our meals came out right away before the salads were even corrected. I ordered a shrimp basket and opted to pay MORE for a salad instead of french fries. So when my food came they put my what should have been hot fried shrimp on top of my salad on a cold plate. The waitress NEVER came over unless we stopped her as she would walk by extremely fast. So when I asked about why you'd put fried hot shrimp on a cold plate with a cold salad I was told 'well you upgraded to a salad' the girl said she'd see what she could do. A man from the kitchen came to the table and looked right at me and the first thing he said to me was 'So I heard you were complaining'. I asked again about why the salad wasn't on the side he offered to take them off for me. I said 'Why would I need you to do that' 'I can do that myself' he stated he'd fix it. At that time BEFORE they left I asked where our cups of chowder were and we were told 'We're OUT of clam chowder'. So I guess the waitress just had no intention of telling us that. Well the man took my plate back to the kitchen and 8 minutes later came back with a basket of french fries and they RE-FRIED the same shrimp I had on the salad. The shrimp was DARK DARK BROWN and RUBBER. Meanwhile Guy & Kari were eating their meals. NONE of us ate our salads because it was either eat your warm meal before it gets colder or the salad. The end result was....None of us ate a salad (with no dressing). None of us had any chowder (a seafood place that ran out of chowder). Guy L Haynes ate he seafood basket. No salad. No Chowder. Kari Keuscher ate the 12 shrimp that came in hers. No salad. No Chowder. So all she ate was 12 shrimp for dinner. Myself, I ate 3 small pieces of garlic bread for dinner. So I can't even tell you if the food was any good. I didn't get any. By the way a couple at the bar that was sitting next to our table ordered a bag to share. The bartender/waiter brought out 2 baskets. When they said they ordered one instead of the restaurant letting them have it since it was their mistake they took it from them. I have NO DOUBT in my mind that the restaurant didn't serve it to someone else since all they did was refry my shrimp twice (basically deep frying my shrimp for 12 minutes). Short story long, I will NEVER NEVER NEVER go back there nor will I recommend the restaurant to anyone. read more

Had an amazing dinner at Bag o Crab, should've taken pictures of the food but we were excited to dig in. Our server was so friendly and checked on us often even as the night got busy. We got a combo 4, added a Lobster tail, tried a couple cocktails and a basket of calamari and garlic fries. We wanted to try a bit of everything! Food was phenomenal, tasted fresh and well seasoned. Shrimp were cleaned well, and the cocktails were beautiful. We ended up taking half the meal home because it was so much food! Atmosphere was also happy, lively, clean restaurant. The robot was so fun to watch shuffle around and it even sang someone happy birthday. We ordered garlic fries and seafood bag with crab, shrimp and clams with med spice level and it was perfect. Just enough spice and flavor but not too spicy. The robot that delivered food is a fun surprise, food came out super fast. There was 3 of us and bill was around 80.00 I felt this was a good deal for amount of seafood you get.
