Usually go to bagelman in merrick but gave bagel boss a try for the first time for our standard Sunday bacon egg and cheese bagel. Ordered like normal and when I get home I discover this fake bacon shit on my bagel. After further investigation, discover they are kosher. I am a regular customer ( 2-4 times a week) BECAUSE they are so personable and gracious. What a great crew! Bagels are very good, chopped salads are fantastic. Everything is always fresh. There's a reason they have long lines on the weekends- really good food and great people. Have to vent a little... went to bagel boss in Merrick today and while I was pleased to see that almost all of their bagels are vegan, and they have 2 kinds of vegan cream cheese, I left fuming because the employees then started making fun of me and vegans in general. One of the guys behind the counter (may have even been management) said "you know how when we see a big juicy steak, we start salivating? Does that happen to you when you see someone mowing a lawn?" Overpriced, lacking taste, and a waste of time & money.

This is my favorite bagel place in town! This week my friend was in Merrick visiting from Singapore and I knew I had to take him to try an LI bagel. David greeted us at the counter and made him the best bagel with lochs. My friend later said to me, "That bagel was so damn good. I'm shook. I'm writing this review after having left this Bagel Boss about 30 minutes ago. I've been to this bagel shop two or three times before and have had experiences that were pretty much indifferent. However, today when I went in I waited over five minutes just to be asked if I need help. This might not be a big deal, but I was one of four people waiting there with the other three chatting with employees behind the counter. This is not my gripe. My complaint is once I asked if someone could take my order, one of the workers gave me a response as if I shouldn't have asked and that they we're obviously in the middle of talking with another employee. I was taken aback by the fact that they thought their conversation was more important than servicing me, the customer. Well I put in my order and made my self serve coffee and knew that the order would be expensive. When he rung me up, the total was $9.18 for a bagel with tuna and a small coffee. They're definitely overpriced and I do not plan on making another trip back there again. I'm giving it 2 starts because their customer service sucked and they're over priced. We live in Midwood Brooklyn and stopped on Memorial Day to pick up lunch on the way to a state park.The sandwiches are very good.It is not cheap but we keep kosher and nothing is cheap---but the customer service and quality was there for us.Our fellow Orthodox jews may not care for the kosher supervision and the fact it is not shomer shabbos--our daughter flinched at the sign that sez open on Saturday,it is dairy so it was ok for her. read more

The place is immaculate and there is a wide range of food to choose from. The staff is friendly and suggestive when coming to meals. Why I will not give it higher is purchased the portabello salad for $8.59 and I can tell you honestly there was one small piece of it in my salad. You figure they would use the entire cap but not even close. This morning I rolled the dice on Bagel Boss over the always reliable Merrick Bagel Café... The order was simple- egg, cheese & avocado on an everything bagel. The women wrote down the order- even discussing with a few employees the price to add avocado (it was $1). Once I got home, I realized - they forgot the avocado, and they put it on a plain bagel. 2 strikes. I know these offense seem minor, but when you get in your car to drive for your morning bagel & coffee, you want it to be right, and in this case, I was very disappointed. Love you, Bagel Boss! Definitely the place to go in Merrick for the best and biggest bagels, as well as the best selection of bagels and everything that goes on, around, or near them. The missing star is simply because it's quite expensive (be prepared to spend a lot, even just for a dozen bagels) and also because this location, while wonderful, does not and will not ever compare to the Hicksville/Plainview location. But really, nothing can. That is an institution at this point. Hard to beat it. However, I will always come to this Bagel Boss to pick up my bagels when I'm in Merrick visiting my folks so I can bring them back to Philly and freeze for later. These might be the best bagels around. -as in around the planet! Manhattan bagels are sooo overrated- puffed up and too hot or hard and stale. Anything out of the NY area really sucks- sorry but it's so true. I moved away 20 years ago and have had one everywhere- there's bad and good, but nothing like Long Island. I always have their yummy egg everything bagel with plain cream cheese. It's nice, simple, and so jewish- no toasting, no weird bagel, no $9 spread, just the basics and IT'S GREAT! The staff is super quick and friendly (not like some others in town), the orders are correct, baked goods super tempting, and choices are plentiful- if you want to drop many hard earned dollars on a bagel. Well this was my first time at the establishment. I'm trying to eat healthy and I was unaware that this was a kosher deli and I had asked for Turkey and egg on a flagel. The person behind the counter decided to give me an attitude. I'm not of the faith and they seemed very unpleased I was unaware of what they served. While working in Merrick on a job, I was told that Bagel Boss was THE place to get great bagels. Well, I'm happy to say my friend was right! I bought about a dozen and a couple types of cream cheese. I also added some muffins, which were huge, easily split by two people. There's also a deli counter to get that special bagel sandwich, and there's plenty of options for drinks besides tea and coffee in the refrigerated cases. If you're so hungry you can't wait to get home, there are some tables and chairs to eat right there. It seemed kind of pricey, but overall, everyone really liked the bagels. I've attempted to like Bagel Boss, and have been here several times, and each time wonder why I bother going back other than it's close to where I live. There's one man that works the counter that I have had awkward, uncomfortable encounters with. He is like one of those creepy old dudes that likes to pretend to flirt with the female customers like he thinks he's being funny or friendly, but really it's just creepy. He'll pretend to take your phone number down when he's taking your order...and thinks it's hilarious. It was such an uncomfortable moment, I wish I could have just walked out then and there. My boyfriend was even with me and he did it right in front of him. Our bagels also managed to come out to $25 for bagels with scrambled eggs and cheese and some home fries and OJ. For frame of reference, ordered the same thing today from turnpike bagels in levittown and it came out to $13. I know Long Island bagel prices have gone up, but $25 for a breakfast at a bagel place is kind of nuts- more like diner pricing! I won't be coming back. 12+ years on LI and I've never had any bagel from any Bagel Boss location. I remember a friend I used to work with raving about the ones from the Hicksville location. So I finally made it in. Some people mention the staff is rude, they especially single out one guy who seems to be overly engaging. Well I'm pretty sure my wife and I dealt with this fella the morning of 1/4, and we found him to be pleasant and not at all rude. So he engages people, I like talking to people too. As far as the rest of the staff, we ordered the usual bagel with cream cheese and egg white wrap, we had it in well under five minutes - very different experience from L&E. The place is also one of the bigger ones in the area, all kinds of items besides bagels. Also looks very clean. The egg wrap worked, but the bagel wasn't all I thought it would be. With all the hype leading up to it, maybe my expectations were too high. Torn between a 3 or 4 star review. Service was friendly and efficient, egg wrap was great, but it's a bagel shop - and that was the worst thing we had. 3 for now, but I'll come back and see how the bagel is. read more

As someone who grew up on LI, there is still a special place in my heart for Bagel Boss. Their mini bagels are the size of an average bagel and their regular bagels are enough for breakfast and lunch. I absolutely love their baked goods. Their unique cream cheeses like the raisin walnut are super tasty. I also love their salad options like veggie tuna and egg white Spinach. Their coffee is also really good as well. There is no shortage of bagel stores on Long Island but my favorite is Bagel Boss! I just love the way they taste. This particular store was renovated in 2008 when it was destroyed by fire from a neighboring store. It's now twice the size of the original and serves up alot more than just bagels. When BB first opened at this location many years back they did well by making good bagels. But as is too often the case with many food establishments, things go down. A recent visit was rewarded with an excellent Egg Everything bagel with lox and a shmear. The bagel was warm, fresh as could be. I think the side salads which are numerous are just as good and somewhat underrated. I stop here and get chicken soup when ill as well. Good coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Big selection of snapples and cold drinks. Plenty of staff ensure even when crowded, the line keeps moving. Love this place and return here often.
