Took forever for to get simple bagel with cream cheese. Over price. Make onsite customers more of a priority.

Fair warning: if you just go in and ask for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, they will give you American cheese. Didn't even occur to me to ask because who in their right mind would put American cheese on a bagel? Extremely disappointing. I couldn't eat the sandwich. Giving three stars because the coffee was good, staff was nice, and if I paid more attention to my order maybe the food would've been decent. read more

I'm sad to leave this place a bad review because the bagels are good BUT they aren't consistent with their closing time. On the web site and sign on the door they say they close at 2pm, but in reality they close when they run out of bagels. This means they sometimes close HOURS early. More than once I have tried to get bagels for the office at lunch time and they are closed. This seems to be a consistent issue with them. They either need to make more bagels or amend their hours. I won't be back. There are too many other places to get bagels that are actually open when they say they will be. read more

Saw this place pop up nearby and have been longing for a good bagel spot since I left NY. This is not it. My first visit was my last. Horrible customer service. I had the longest wait behind a crazy lady who had a million and one questions including if they make their own turkey here? Three people began helping this one woman putting forth all of their best efforts to answer all her silly questions. They let me wait on and on with no apology except from the crazy lady who said oh I'm sorry, but then turned around and continued to go on and on. She even started offering up her business to supply them with signage and so forth while I waited some more. I was disgusted how the staff allowed such entitled, dismissive and inconsiderate behavior at the expense of other patrons. They should not have condoned this behavior and should have handled this way better and put an end to her using everyones time for her own entertainment. Clearly my business just didn't mean anything to them which is why I won't be back. I finally had a chance to order my bagel sandwich and there was not even an I'm so sorry for your wait. I was hoping maybe just maybe this bagel was going to be worth the wait and bad experience thus far but it wasnt. Just buy a bagel from Kroger or something and make your own because these bagels aside from my horrible experience were honestly just not good nor worth the money. read more

Bagel was under toasted and cinnamon sugar topping was nonexistent. I thought it was a plain bagel. The blueberry muffin literally had 4 blueberries in a large muffin. The muffin base was delicious, just false advertising because the percentage of muffin to blueberries was disgraceful. Whoever allows this practice should be retrained. My husband and I grew up on Long Island (NY) and have called Richardson home for 5 years now. Whenever we would fly up north we would bring bagels home and freeze them bc we had yet to find a bagel place that was on par with what we grew up with. My husband picked me up an everything with butter, and he got an everything with veggie cream cheese - it was love at first bite. A tasty bagel they make, a New York bagel, they do not. Good flavor- texture is all wrong. Boil and chill the dough, it's science....... yes it takes longer, but that's the legit way- nothing to do with the water. Absolutely terrible customer service. Yelled at my elderly mother because she went to grab butter from an area that to her looked like it was for customers because her bagel was too dry for her to eat. And when she questioned why she was being treated that way she was yelled at to leave. How dare you treat a women in her 70s like that? How would you feel if someone spoke to your mother that way? This is the closest I have gotten to a NY bagel. Their sandwiches are soooo good! I got the Hashy with the chipotle cream cheese. I highly recommend that! We also got an everything and an Asiago to go with some bacon and chives cream cheese. I was sad I didn't get a whole dozen....probably for the best. Flavors were overwhelming in terms of picking one so I asked her for her recommendation and was very happy with what I got when I asked what bagel I should get with the Ken's Favorite. I decided to try this bagel place this morning since the nearby Einstein's closed down. Based on the reviews, I thought and hoped this place would be decent. I got cinnamon sugar bagels, blueberry bagels, and the honey pecan spread. These were the hardest and densest bagels I've ever eaten. The blueberry bagel had no taste of blueberry and the honey pecan spread was just cream cheese with pecans mixed in. Neither had much flavor or were sweet. I don't know how there are so many good reviews for this place. I hate to leave a bad review for a small local restaurant but it was the worst bagel I remember eating. My wife could not finish the top half of her bagel and threw it away. I finished the bottom half but I wish I didn't. The savory bagel sandwiches may be better, and maybe these bagels work better as sandwich bread. I would stay away from getting a regular bagel with cream cheese. read more

I ordered a dozen of specific rainbow bagels from Bagel Cafe 21 and I froze them up until my daughters spunky Over the Rainbow theme birthday party, which was 2 weeks out. I just popped them (without thawing) back in the oven at 350 for 6 mins and they were perfect. Owner was sweet to help me out with such advance notice! This place is amazing. Definitely a little taste of New York in Richardson! Everything was so good. I got the Cowboy sandwich with vegetable cream cheese, on a jalapeño cheddar bagel. My husband got the Hasher on a Rosemary bagel with Chipotle cream cheese. YUM. The only thing that I would warn people is that the drinks are extremely pricey. I got a large chai and it was $6. Stopped in to buy 2 bagels to go. My jaw kind of dropped when they rung up to $4.30, but I paid and left. The sad thing is that they weren't especially good. Shop is small so there will most likely be a line (come early if you want a speciality bagel ex: rainbow bagel) I got the lox bagel sandwich and it was wonderful. Love the 'everything' bagel. Don't expect to walk in on Saturday or Sunday (I assume the busiest days) and dare ask for a dozen. 'Angry' baker guy will take this as his queue to put on his soup jerk person guy from Seinfeld on and ridicule you for not calling ahead. The sign on the door indicates that the shop opens at 6am. I walked in at 6:03 and was met with an angry owner asking me what I wanted. Then he showed me the door saying that they were still closed. He literally walked me out. Yes, there is a piece of paper that says it opens at 6:30, see the picture, but it is not obvious. Either way, he could have made a sell as the bagels were ready, but he chose to be rude instead. He lost a customer today, who actually liked his bagels. Wanted to support a local shop so I went to try bagel cafe 21 after reading all of the good reviews. I have to say I was quite disappointed mainly with the service. I get that they have online delivery but I found it extremely rude to be ordering and after I order, one of the workers who is on the phone taking an order then tells me, "sorry that last Asiago bagel is taken by this online order I'm talking with"...considering I'm there right now in person ordering that just didn't sit well. I really do want to say this though, for the sake of not only the customers, more so the employees, this place gets so packed - especially on the weekend, there needs to be WAYYY more workers, literally for the workers' sake.
