Route 9 Northbound in Howell, NJ, has a number of small commercial strips, including this one that contains Bagel Country on 9. The store is laid out in a whimsical fashion, with decent bagel assortment to curry favor with most tastebuds. I stopped in before a meeting nearby, and enjoyed a fresh Onion Bagel with Veggie Cream Cheese. It was good, but not my favorite texture. It was more or less the same softness throughout, rather than a hard shell with airy pockets within. Plenty of onion flakes, though, and a broad breakfast and lunch menu for customers so inclined. Service was friendly and accommodating. My bagel was delivered to my table within minutes. Not a bad place to start the day. Four Bagels seems about right. read more

A wonderful little bagel shop right on route nine, you might even miss that it's there! Great bagels, people and comfy indoor seating. I've lived in Freehold a long time and never actually knew this bagel shop was here. I don't know how. I was en route nine and needed a quick bite and found it using Yelp. What a great find! Small place very nice indoors area, great bagels, and happy friendly service. Starting with the bagels, I got egg and cheese on a pumpernickel bagel I thought it was great! They were very quick as well. I like this kind of Bagel. Very good for a sandwich. The indoors though really impressed me, they have areas for kids to play. Great place if you're bringing your family out to get a bagel. It felt really friendly and kind of like someone's home and walking inside. I really loved it! We ordered a bagel sandwich off their menu with lox, cream cheese, tomatoes and onions on an everything egg bagel. Bagel came out promptly. It was a little smaller than expected, in comparison to places like bagel nook. The bagel was also not as fluffy. If you are a culinary Argonaut searching for diner gold, you might parcel through this plot of land along the Howell highway with a plate in hand and a hunger for joy. Brand: 5/5 The on-point Wild West aesthetics percolate throughout the establishment up to the very name itself. While there are no immediate plans to expand the donut mascot wearing the cowboy hat, it does enough to represent the brand in a fun way. It will even show up as a painting on the wall to invite you in. Inside, you will find many country themes, from the pictures on the wall to the menu items. Ambiance: 3/5 The interior of Bagel Country maintains that seasonally aware vibe, for a television played smooth autumn jazz over a yuletide log video. I noticed a children's play area at the wall, which I could see working to a certain extent, though if I was a parent I would be wary of children putting their sticky hands on the toys after eating syrup-laden foods. I did find the table sizes inconsistent, with some rising up while regular-sized tables had clusters of four tables. The ambiance was not completely noisy, since the establishment was medium-sized. Service: 5/5 The staff care about their customers to the point where they helped an elderly customer. They did describe the leadership of Bagel County as willing to help anyone out. Wait Time: 4/5 Although we did not realize that we had to make our orders at the counter, I did not experience any problems waiting after we made our orders. Food: 5/5 I ordered one of Bagel Country's signature dishes, which is the Cowboy Dave, which consists of a decadent breakfast sandwich with powder-sugar-topped griddle cakes as buns containing bacon, egg, and cheese, with sides of butter and syrup. Every ingredient was well-prepared, from the crispiness of the bacon to the coagulated cheese to the tender eggs to the sturdy griddle cakes, which held as much as it could before ingredients started falling off which is to be expected with a dish like this. The bacon and the cheese had the most profound flavor of warmness and spiciness, complementing the dish very well. The sweetness of the syrup manages to make the griddle cakes tasty and the bacon mixed with flavor. The real-life Dave, whoever he is who inspired this dish, gets a tip of my hat. Worth The Money?: 4/5 The dishes match the aesthetics perfectly, for they manage to bridge together the country and the diner otherwise seen as disparate subjects. While served on a foil container, it still managed to maintain its form without ruining the container. The plastic fork did little to break through the meal, so I always used both the plastic fork and plastic knife. The wait time was definitely appropriate for the preparation of the meal. Concerning the brand, it consistently works from the name down to the very business card design. I will say that had I went to any other diner, the price for a Cowboy Dave equivalent would have been higher. Would I say that the establishment is ultimately worth negotiating down highways or various back-roads for a tasty meal? Maybe. I would much prefer coming to this establishment more if my work leads me down this particular highway in the particular lane that brings me there. I do not have any real suggestions, since the establishment manages to accomplish so much. Perhaps one would include the staff asking any potential customers if they wish to order the moment they walk up to the counter requesting a table. Another suggestion would be to have more consistent table sizes. Rating: 4/5 Stars While I do see potential unmined, I did not regret going west, son. I had a pleasant experience eating such a unique dish in this part of Howell Township. Recommend To... Any Western enthusiasts, for they might enjoy this type of establishment in their corner of New Jersey. Hubs and I came here for lunch. I've been wanting to come here for a while and we finally had the chance to do so. Hubs got the Veggie Omelet with home fries and toast. He said that the eggs weren't fluffy and overcooked. He thinks they left the omelette on a slow griddle and cooked it till it was hard. Vegetables were precooked and it had this stew-like consistency. Overall, he was disappointed with it. He had hopes because the ambiance was nice looking. I had the Italian Hot Dog, which came with peppers, onions, potatoes and served with French fries. The vegetables were stewy looking and mixing the potatoes together looked mushy. The hot dog and fries were ok, though. Service was friendly. Glad we stopped by and gave it a try! read more

My cousin and I ordered sandwiches and they were delicious. They were hot & tasty and ready quickly.

Horrible service. I waited 3minutes before they took my order as they prepared DoorDash and walked around. They finally acknowledged my presence then took my order shortly after which was simply a bagel with cream cheese. I waited almost 10 minutes before my order was just sitting on the counter. It took for me to ask before the checked me out. I was not offered an apology for the wait. They messed up someone's order while I was waiting and he was able to get his order 3-5 before I got mine. Horrible. I felt like an inconvenience as a black woman. I will never return. Update: My experience is my experience, especially as a paying black woman. No one else was treated that way. This was not my first time experiencing this treatment in your establishment. Rather than apologizing you're doing a whole rant. Maybe discuss with your staff on how to give quality customer service or simply apologizing for the long wait as my food sat on the counter. Perception is everything and your staff failed. read more

The owner and her staff are just the kindest and most professional people you could meet The atmosphere is warm and inviting It's a place that makes you feel like it's your second home The customers get to know each other and exchange greetings and conversations The food is prepared really good and served in a timely fashion considering the large volume of business that they do Their prices are very very fair There was a customer that posted a really bad review and it bothered me alot, not because she was unsatisfied, but because she posted about being a paying black woman and I think it was a very low blow to play the race card because people that work in this establishment are totally totally the opposite of that. They are a group of mixed people from different ethnicities, from different backgrounds, and they are all really wonderful, and they treat everyone the same. So it really actually annoyed me so much that I had to write this review. They are not racist! When you complain about a place, don't bring in the race card unless you can actually substantiate it! A friend told me to try it and I am glad I did. Great service first off. So friendly and they even gave my son a toy while we waited for our order. They had soft bagels that I enjoyed. The pork roll egg and cheese was nicely done. Only critique is they should have cooked the pork roll more. The marie bagel was delicious and unique. I think it had sun dried tomatoes in it. I live down the street and have always passed this place. I really like the decor inside and the way it's decorated. Honestly, very similar to the style inside my home. Since moving to the Jackson area we've been on the hunt for a good bagel spot. A family member recommended trying Bagel Country so we did. On the first visit or two we were impressed with the food and service. Since then, it's become an almost weekly routine for my daughter and I to stop in for a rainbow bagel. Beside the bagels/breakfast sandwiches being delicious, the staff is incredibly friendly. It's not just a few smiles and thank you's- they recognize us and greet us as if we've been stopping in for years. My daughter (3) loves chatting with the staff and they go above and beyond to make her feel special. She also loves playing the little games they have in the seating area while we wait. Extremely rude and unprofessional staff. Lady behind the counter likely the owner does not know how to run a business, I give this place a year before there's a space available sign in the window.
