Note to self- do not attempt to eat these bagels in the car while driving. I visited Bagels n' Grinds on my way to see a customer in Hanover. I had just enough time to grab a quick bite to eat in my car. I chose my usual, an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. The line was fairly long but moved quickly enough. The bagel was very good, just crispy enough outside and fluffy inside. They didn't put as much cream cheese on as I am use to but it was a blessing in disguise as it would have resulted in even more of a mess and cream cheese in my lap (I need to drive with a bib while eating apparently). I deducted a star because while the texture was good, there wasn't nearly enough seasoning stuff on the everything bagel. There was almost zero salt or onion on the crust. It was still good though and while I would not go out of my way to visit again, I would definitely stop by if I was in the area. read more

The wait times are ludicrous. Even when the place is slow, you'll wait for a comically long time. The food is mediocre and the help seems to have made peace with the fact that their service is and always will be the slow. The only good is that you won't be alone in your frustration. I've done it. My Indiana Jones-like quest to find a good bagel in the area is now complete. As an added bonus, they're not just good -- they're fantastic. Northeasterners, they put the right amount of cream cheese on their bagels. For the rest of you, that would be "way too much" cream cheese... but it's just right for us. Is this place perfect? No, of course not. As others have noted, the interior design is a little cumbersome, and the rotating menu screens are kind of annoying. We got dinner from here once, deli sandwiches on bagels and some soup; while quite good, they certainly were not five star perfection. But for a bagel with cream cheese and a cuppa joe in the morning, yeah, this is my place. read more

I took a few girlfriends out here for a quick breakfast before heading out to the pool last weekend. One of the girls is from NY and has quite high standards for bagels, and I am happy to report that she was satisfied :) She got a lox and cream cheese bagel; I got a breakfast bagel with egg, cheese, and asparagus, and my other friend got a toasted bagel with cream cheese...yuummmm! We also did the groupon thing and got the dozen bagels with 2 cream cheeses a few weeks ago, which let us sample a ton of the bagels! I liked the plain, the sesame, and the sun dried tomato bagels a lot, but I didn't so much like the sea salt bagels (waaaaaaay too salty as all the salt is put on top of the bagel en masse) and the onion bagels (they made the rest of the bagels smell like onions!). I love this place!!! I have never really been a "bagel person" per se, but after the first time I went there for breakfast, I was hooked. Bagel lovers, coffee drinkers, and everyone else who is like me and loves to eat great food, this review is for you. I think their food is phenomenal. I don't know about anybody else but the word I would use to describe the food at Bagels n' Grinds is hearty. This place rocks. As great as this food is, I think the staff is just as great. And they're the reason I decided to write this review. My husband, son and I went in this morning for some breakfast, ad we occasionally do. The breakfast was great, filling, and left me wanting more, as usual. Later this afternoon, I happened to look at my bank account online and saw that they had charged me twice. I stopped in just to let them know. I figured they would just take off the additional charge and that would be it that but the guy who came to deal with the issue did more that just that. He voided the entire check. So of course I was prepared to re-swipe my card for the right amount but he said, nope, it's all good. This touched me in some kinda way and made me love this place even more. To paraphrase one of my favorite movies, any store that puts the customer ahead of the almighty buck has my business. I wish I could come here for everything but bananas and toilet paper. But an awesome bagel (or bagel sandwich) and Iced-coffee will have to do. I think the food at this place is great. The problem is the service. My husband and I tend to go here on weekends for lunch after our morning errands or workout. I mostly tend to order an oxtail however the past few times I've gone the staff hasn't let me order it. The first time they told me they weren't serving lunch until noon (it was 11:52). The next time I went at noon to order it and was told they weren't serving lunch until 1. Probably won't end up going back since I never know what I can order when. read more

One of my go-to places for a quick breakfast and coffee when I don't feel like doing the work myself. I like to get the Eggstremely Healthy on an Asiago bagel. Decent New York Style bagels, good coffee. The staff is friendly and talkative, which is pretty unusual for the Arundel Mills area. In fact, I really like the staff a lot. They're friendly, but not in a fake pretentious way. One worker in particular always strikes up conversations with people as he wipes tables. My only complaint is strictly based on personal preference and taste: I find the Adult Contemporary music they play is a little annoying and bland. It makes me feel like I'm shopping at Safeway. I wish they would play something like classical or soul or traditional cafe music. I was so glad when they changed their hours to stay open later. read more

In the past we really liked this place. However we grabbed some bagels 830 this morning 11.25.12 and it was really disappointing. The lox was old, the red onions were so old they were clear, and we had the insult of watching them fill an 8oz container directly from the Philadelphia cream cheese bulk box then charge us 5 dollars for the 8oz. This place is finished...sorry, sad thing is everyone who works there will be confused about what happened when the place closes. read more

The coffee here sucks so make sure you have had a cup before you go, the service is VERY hit or miss so the coffee is always like water old and stale or jet fuel. They constantly get my orders wrong but the bagels are the best around. The weekend flagels are great! It's like a flat large bagel, they go fast so come early (only on weekends). read more

Everything was adequate/average. Our wait was a little long but it was Sunday morning (bout 30 minutes). The food came and our bagel sandwiches tasted a little better than say einsteins or other chains. Outdoor seating is great. Being from NJ, yes I am accustomed to a high quality bagel. I had at least some hope for this place given the claim that the water is treated to mimic the NY water system in order to provide a better taste. You can even watch the bagels being made. Unfortunately you would think bagels being made on site would mean they would taste good but they are just "ok". Like others have mentioned here, there is something lacking in the flavor and texture. Another thing I have a HUGE problem with is that the breakfast sandwiches containing meat have the meats cut up into little pieces and baked into the "egg" (which I have a feeling is just liquid egg mix that comes in the carton) and which is probably cutting costs. That's NOT how we do it in the tri-state area. If you want a bacon or sausage egg and cheese in NY or NJ, you better damn well be getting at least a slice of meat on top of a REAL egg and it's not going to cost you and arm and a leg. Somehow this place still manages to get business because I guess Marylanders have no standards for bagels. People do yourselves a favor and go visit NY/NJ then see what you think. What's the point of having a fancy water treatment system if it doesn't produce a good bagel and you make a cheap tasting product. Don't even try to say these are NY bagels. read more

Even though I live out of town, I seem to have become a regular here! One time for lunch I ordered a sandwich and now I crave that sandwich! When I work in the MD area, I will even go out of my way for it! It is a turkey Ruben on an everything whole wheat bagel. (the Reuben comes with meat but I substitute turkey). It has all the right stuff to make it a memorable sandwich! The turkey is fresh...not that slimy processed turkey, the bagel is slightly toasted. The everything bagel has lots of generous seasonings on the both sides of the bagel. It all blends together to make the perfect sandwich and it is sooo yummy!!! The sandwich comes with assorted bagel chips on the side. A clever way to not waste the bagels! I must say, I am impressed the staff remembered me. It really made me feel special. They want to get to know their customers and not many restaurants do that anymore. They can be a little slow taking the order but it is worth the wait! read more

Well alright! Got a Groupon for a bakers dozen for six bucks why not? Right? Right! So I initially went on New Years Day- it closed early due to the holiday, keep in mind it closes at 3p daily. The following day I called ahead just to make sure I wouldn't waste a trip. The person was very polite and took my order over the phone. She recommended that if you chose to use your Groupon to call ahead regarding the bagel choices if you choose to come late in the day. I got there, I suppose it is in a newer area of the whole Arundel Mills area because I've honestly never noticed the store before. It seems to be incorporated with some apartments. There was limited parking spaces but there was a parking garage. That may have been for the Apts though, I'm not certain. Any who, the place is really chill inside, it has comfy seats and a fireplace. The menu appeared to be fairly priced too. Now I tried as many bagels as I could and from what I've had they are really great, they were fresh and not too chewy. I dunno how to explain it, just go and try it. Impressive!! Located in Hotel community. Franchise feel and very professional for being a one unit standalone establishment. The coffee was organic and the specialty sandwich I ordered on the Sundried Tomato bagel was just what the Dr. Ordered after a long red eye flight. Highly recommended. Today was my first time visiting the Hanover location. In need of a breakfast alternative I decided to give this place a shot. Overall experience: meh. To start off this location is a little hidden and out of the way, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The BNG venue itself feels pretty inviting; from the bakery on the left hand side and decor...it feels like home. My first disappointment; the staff member was not very welcoming. As a first time customer I had some questions about the menu. Answers were as forthcoming as her politeness which is to say not at all. My second disappointment; once the order arrived it was incomplete. Another staff member was kind enough to bring me the rest of my order. Finally, the last disappointment was the food. I ordered a ham, egg, and cheese bagel. Upon inspection the bagel was downright impressive; thick eggs scrambled with ham layered with cheese. This looked like delicious and one would imagine that the sandwich would have a good balance of flavor. Well, this was a bit of a disappointment since there was little to no flavor of the sandwich apart from the bagel. The egg was tasteless, the ham was underwhelming, and the cheese was only there as a binder to keep on the blandness on the bagel itself. On to the bagel...I have eaten some awesome bagels. If you like NYC bagels this will disappoint you. The bagel was pretty stodgy and fluffy. It lacked the density of a NYC bagel. If the food was good I would have given a higher rating but overall there are better places to go for a bagel in these parts. read more

This is my second time here and it is the absolute pits. I got a plain bagel with cheese eggs and turkey sausage. For starters when I got the sandwich, for these to be fresh baked, the bagel was rock hard. The eggs were too salty and the turkey sausage was cut into bite size chunks a total of maybe four to five miniature pieces of sausage. Well considering it was $8.00 with a drink I expected more. Food was insanely dry. I would have fared better eating fast food. For 1.00 up charge for turkey sausage I had no idea why I would get bite size chunks of sausage instead of a whole sausage patty. The sandwich was hard, and tasteless. A complete mess. read more

Someone in my group has had to send theirs back almost every time we have come. Recently, the problem has gotten much worse. Long time fan of Bagels 'n Grinds, but the service has gone from mediocre (but the staff was pleasant) to terrible (and the staff is not friendly and or professional). For instance, taking a phone call while a customer is handing you a credit card to pay for the order and not telling the caller to hold briefly (but rather speak to them rudely) is not great customer service. Even worse, however, is when a customer returns to let you know that the bagel ordered has a bunch of burned on black stuff from the oven and you give her attitude like she offended you even when she thanks you for remaking the bagel - you stand to lose a very faithful customer. It saddens me to say this, because your bagels are so delicious. Ugh. read more

Let me start this off that I am originally from NYC. It was the claim that they use NY water that hooked me in to giving it a try. I guess that is their intention. With that being said, upon walking in, the place is spacious and clean. They have a lot of options on the breakfast menu as well. The bagels have standard as well as a few artisan varieties. In my honest opinion the atmosphere leads onto itself a little too much with an air of "snooty" and "high-brow" for what it is. It's bagle place...plain and simple. Yet, they label the front door with "Executive Chef". I had an onion bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese. The bagel was surprisingly good in both texture, size, and flavor. Very comparable to a NYC bagel...so bravo! Their sausage is good, but their egg has a strange texture. I agree with other reviews that they are spongey in a way that is slightly off-putting. Surely, an "Executive Chef" can cook an egg properly or at least teach someone to do so. My sandwich came out hot and cheese melted. Their coffee options are excellent with good flavor and multiple options...all piping hot! In closing, this place is good and I would come back. I give it 4 stars because of the price points (almost $10 for a coffee and bagel sandwich) of their menu and egg texture. Overall experience, was good. Excellent service. read more

Yep - did the groupon thing and purchased the dozen bagels with 2 free cream cheeses for $8. A couple weeks after that, I recevied a mass mailer coupon with the same deal, but I didn't have to purchase it. grrr. Went there after our dinner at Rangolis next door to get some bagels for the peeps at work for the following morning. No one was in there except a worker and a couple. It's really clean and brand spanking new. I ordered an assortment of bagels ranging from savory to sweet and noticed the egg bagels where mostly gone from the showcase. The worker said it was one of their best sellers. I ordered a low fat cream cheese as well as a low fat strawberry one. The bagels were placed in a paper bag and not placed in a sealed bag. I took them to work the next morning and some of them were a little on the hard side. Personally, I didn't care because that's what microwaves are for but obviously some people at work where complaining how "old" it tasted. I really think that they overheated theirs in the microwave. This was what I was really thinking and wanting to say out loud: Shit, I bought it the night before, just zap it in the micro and be grateful that you had free bagels for breakfast! Sheesh. Other than that mind outburst, I loaded my Everything bagel with the low fat cream cheese and it was good. You can't go wrong with the Everything bagel when you go to a bakery or anyplace that sells fresh bagels. Though I didn't top my Everything bagel with the strawberry lowfat cream cheese (that would be weird) but it tasted like it was low fat cream cheese mixed with fresh strawberries. I felt that maybe a little sweetness could have been added to it, maybe honey or vanilla but I figured thats why they sell it as lowfat. Duh. The other workers who didn't complain, enjoyed their bagels and thought it was good. Other than that, my bagel was chewy like a NY bagel, flavorful and pretty huge. I did freeze a bunch of bagels that I ordered from there on the night of and ate one today and it was delicious and filling. Just zapped it in the micro for 30 seconds on high, sliced it in half and placed it in the toaster on the bagel setting. Since I do have that second coupon, maybe, just maybe if I wake up early enough, I'll redeem that coupon from Bagels n Grinds and bring it to work. I'll do an update on that! Upon discovering that I forgot my lunch at home, I stopped here for a salad on my way to work. I ordered a make your own salad. It took about 10 minutes for them to make it, no big deal. It looked great. I thought I had a solid lunch option available to me on my morning commute in a pinch. When I sad down to lunch I discovered that the center of my salad was a mound of slimy lettuce. The salad was pretty salvageable. In an attempt to consume only the edible parts I found that there weren't many black beans nor beets as I'd ordered. The salad appeared to be mainly salad mix (slimy and non-slimy) and cucumbers, and avocado which there was a good deal of but there should have been because you pay quite a premium for it. I can't speak for their bagels, (though the bagel chips that came with my salad were pretty good) but I'll never be stopping here for a salad again. This one went to the trash. I hate wasting food.
