What a great new eatery. The food is fresh and tasty! We all had the Beer Soup which was very good. Two of us had the Pastrami on rye bread cooked like a panini. They said it was excellent. I had the Tri-tip with BBQ sauce on a baguette. It was just okay but had lots of meat. The decor is very inviting and the ambiance is warm. The staff is very friendly. They also serve breakfast. I visit family in EG and have eaten here a few times. Top quality food, good size portions at a very reasonable price. Not sure why anyone would go to a nearby fast food place when they could eat quality food here at a comparable price, specially if you are one that super sizes everything. Only thing I would like to see them do is offer three regular side dishes at a time. Not including their chips and salsa. They do not really fit with much of the menu. But macaroni salad, cold slaw, etc. would be nice to have that option daily as some things go better with certain foods. But bottom line it is a great local fresh food place to dine. I've only been here once, but I really enjoyed what I had. I got the pastrami on rye, and i was very pleased. The bread was fantastic and the pastrami was very good. I got a side of broccoli salad, which was fantastic. I really enjoy raw broccoli, and it wasn't soaking in a mayo sauce like some I've had. The restaurant has really cool decor inside and is quite roomy. I highly recommend it, and I know I'll be back to try more of their menu. read more

First with the negatives. Ordered for to go and order was whack: I said scrambled egg and got fried egg for a breakfast sandwich, they gave me bland country potatoes with cheese even though I asked for fruit, and they wrapped a fork in a napkin instead of a spoon for freaking soup. Also TOOK FOREVER for orders--not just ours but other customers too. Two customers who were sitting together ordered directly one after the other, but one of them didn't receive their food until about 15 minutes (!!) after the one got their order. Price seemed steep for some items like $12 for a meatloaf sandwich special? Seriously? But let me tell you something, that was probably the largest and greatest ciabatta bread meatloaf sandwich I've ever had! Portion size was huge and it took up 3/4 of the space of a standard styrofoam box and came with chimichanga-style tortilla chips and salsa. read more

I love a good sandwhich and stopped by for my first time at baguettes today. The environment looked well decorated and very home styled so I decided to try it out. My mother and I ordered two sandwhiches (philly cheesesteak and turkey bacon avocado). Overall it was very expensive, $25 for two sandwhiches with a side of fries, and the portions were very small. It also took quite a while for the food to be prepared, around 35 minutes for just two sandwhiches made to go. The food itself is alright but if you're looking to get a better deal on a sandwhich there are plenty of other better places to go to. read more

I went in today starving for a late lunch at 1pm. Ordered 1 to eat and 1 to go for my husband. My friend was served her sandwich after waiting for about 15 minutes. I waited another 10 since there appeared to be 1 person making sandwiches before I went to check. They had lost my ticket and never made my sandwiches. At that point I asked for a refund and left I love their food but their service has been terrible the last three times I have been there and I am afraid I will not be back unless I hear they are under new management! read more

I have been to Baguettes about 4 times either for breakfast or lunch. Each visit has been unremarkable, neither particularly terrible or amazing. Yesterday I went in for a quick lunch to-go. It was a Friday at about 1 and I wasn't sure what kind of line/crowd I could expect, but I was pleased to only be behind two other customers ordering just for themselves. I ordered the California turkey with a side of pasta salad. While waiting, I observed at least 4 restaurant employees--two cooking and prepping, the other two taking and running orders. The person running orders couldn't find where customers had sat after ordering, so he kept having to go up to everyone inside & outside to ask. (I don't know why they don't hand out table numbers once you've ordered...) Two other to-go customers were brought their food on a dish and they had to clarify/ask for it to be packaged. Fortunately my sandwich was ready & I was able to get in and out of Baguettes in about 12 minutes, which isn't bad at all for lunchtime. The meal was just okay. The ciabatta was the best part--soft, fresh, and tasty. The turkey was generous but a little too dry. Honestly, it would've been fine if there was mayo or aioli, but I couldn't really detect a whole lot of anything. The bacon was disappointing because it seems like that microwaveable, precooked Oscar Meyer bacon, not honey bacon as described. The pasta salad was different. I blindly ate it at work and was thrown off by the strawberries and grapes. Overall, this was a classic experience at Baguettes for me, where I leave sated but not elated. (I couldn't help the rhyme). The service was good--the guy working the register was really helpful & sweet--and the menu begs further exploration. Baguette's is my favorite lunch restaurant in Elk Grove and I'm so happy they opened back up. I just tried their breakfast sandwich and it was delicious too. I usually get the California Turkey or the Three Little Piggies. Everything I've tried has been great with freshly baked bread and salad. The owner Paula is very friendly and inviting. Absolutely terrible!!! I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally went with my kiddo. Anything I ordered they didn't have one of the ingredients. I even ordered something else instead and after I placed it they came to my table and said they didn't have any wheat bread. You're called baguettes but you don't have bread? So they substituted it with another one which seemed a little undercooked. They forgot the fries we ordered so I had to ask for those. And when I asked if they had kids juices they said they had to ask the manager but never did follow through. Not to mention the place was kind of messy too. I will never go back. I decided to give Baguettes another try, but it didn't take long for them to disappoint. They forgot the bacon on my California Turkey, so I called within 45 minutes to let them know. The employee told me only the owner could handle this and she would be calling me back. No one called, so the next afternoon I called and got the owner on the line. She offered.45 cents a slice refund since that's what her cost is. No apology for leaving off a key ingredient, no apology for not returning my call. What I did get was her tone that told me she didn't get what the problem was. It would cost me more than .90 cents to drive out there to take her up on her generous offer. Favorite sandwich place in Elk Grove! Always fresh and tasty. Salsa and chips are unique, great flavor! I really enjoy the Bahi mi I believe it's called. Ice teas has a slight peach flavor. As much as I want to support a local business with unique offerings, I can't after waiting an hour for lunch today. While there apparently new staff, which could certainly slow things down, the lack of communication and recognition of the problem was frankly unacceptable. Orders were coming out at 10 minute or longer intervals, leaving groups with one person in the group with food while others waited, or,in several cases I observed, left without food at all. One worker made an announcement to the restaurant, explaining that there were new staff and thanking us for our patience. However, the owner herself never acknowledged the situation, never offered explanation or apology, or even chips while we and numerous others waited and waited. In fact, she continued taking new orders without warning the customers that the wait on this workday would be an hour. Whatever the situation was today, it was handled poorly by management. read more

Had a sample and it was so delicious! I ended up getting I believe I got the california sandwich with the chips and salsa. The sandwich was huge!!! I was in the area and has some time to kill so I just searched for something close to my appointment and my location so I ended up here. I LOVE sandwiches that are good quality! Nugget Market, Raley's, places like that. I refuse to go to Subway b/c they are the crappiest place ever to get a sandwich and will occasionally in a very great while go to Togo's but I typically choose higher quality. Anyway, I rolled up, hopped out and was immediately greeted. They don't have tons of choices but you can make your own and they had some sides. I pull out my debit card to pay and then they tell me their machine is broken (which I believe was the squared thing that attaches to an ipad type deal). So now that I ordered already, the woman tells me I can go down a couple places to get money out of an ATM (one of the companies NO ONE has!!!). If I hadn't park directly in front of the joint, I'da split! But I felt bad and was ravishingly hungry so I get money out, took a painful charge b/c it wasn't my bank, and not so happily paid and got my order to go. I found somwhere to eat and they gave me these weird chips for a side o.0 I tried them but no liked. The sandwich was pretty standard: foccacia, ham, turkey, mayo, and lettuce. Somehow these knuckle heads managed to screw up a simple order and had horrible quality of items. Not so horrible as oscar meyer bologna but like a couple steps away from that. I ate some of it (like half I think?) and then tossed it because it was that bad....no taste really except for the bread, they had me charge me debit card and get a fine, it was pricey for what you got, and service wasn't spectacular. The manager was eating something and loudly talking to the woman behind the counter while on her phone and they took freakin forever with my order. Do yourself a favor and go some place else! My husband frequents this place often for lunch because he loves their sandwiches. There have been multiple times he's ordered his California Club, no onions, and it's come out with loads of red onions on top. When he returned home to discover they didn't listen to him when he specifically asked for no onions he became upset, understandably, because now his whole sandwiche was tainted with a fowl smell. Because this wasn't the first time this ever happened he decided to call and speak with a manager, when the owner came on the phone and he explained his situation she couldn't be bothered and didn't seem to care at all. She never offered to take care of his sandwich and only asked him what he thought she should do..Heaven forbid she consult with her employs with proper customer service. So fast forward to today, my husband arrives at 11:50am and waits 40 minutes for two sandwiches-completely unacceptable. Not once did they come up to him and apologize for the wait or offer him a beverage while he waited. This place is a joke of a local restaurant and we will not be going back, Mr. Pickles has amazing sandwiches and their employees are attentive and friendly. read more

This is not a place to get a quick meal. For a simple burger and a club sandwhich you'll wait over 20 - 25 mins for your order. There was only one couples order submitted and by the way the only other people in the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon around 3ish. If you don't mind the wait and the guy making the sandwhich eating and biting HIS OWN sandwhich WHILE preparing YOUR FOOD - this is the place for people not concerned with gloves being worn for food prep or any hygienic food preparation. Not only did the order take forever in an almost empty restaurant - the order does eventually come after 20 - 25 minutes and comes wrong! The items I asked to be left off due to my food allergiers comes with the items on it! I guess eating, reading and preparing orders correctly was a challenge here. This same guy is also the server who after being told my order was not correct and that I asked for certain items to be left off because of my food allergy - this guy's suggests to scrape it off! Note: if someone is allergic to something and it touches their food in any capacity (even if you scrap it off) they could die! Food allergies are not to be taken lightly...hopefully the owner sees this post and doesn't let this happen or potentially happen to someone else! Oh forgot to include that the prep guy handles more than his own sandwich and your sandwhich at the same time - he also rings the register, and handles money and goes right back to make someone else's order - no hand washing anytime. read more

So wanted to love this place. The very first turn off is you place your order, they run your ATM card and ask you to fill in the tip amount. WHAT ? You want a tip before I receive my order? AHH NO!!!! Ordered a Reuben with kraut on the side and another sandwich and an ice tea. Only two other people in there that already had their food. Waited from 11:11 am to 11:30 to receive our order. One sandwich was good and the other was horrible. The menu states made in house corned beef. The meat was cut with the grain and was 3/4 fat and 1/4 tuff and not chewable corned beef with an additional 1/2 inch layer of solid fat. The dressing was so runny that it was all under the limp chips. The dressing also had way to much hot pepper flakes in it. I took my plate up the person who had made it and asked for a refund because it had taken over 15 minutes to make and now there were eight other people in line and we had to get to work and could not wait. This person put it on the counter and continued to work on another persons order. After another five or so minutes I had to go to the counter and ask for a refund again from another employee. I was asked if I had eaten the sandwich which I had not and told her it was sitting on the table behind her. After she looked at it she asked what was wrong with it and I explained again to her it was all fat and I could not wait for another she returned my $11.00 and said "NEXT TIME SUBWAY MIGHT WORK BETTER FOR YOU". Guess we'll give our money to THE SHACK who makes AWESOME food with a full house of happy people and have never waited over 10 minutes for our food. read more

I almost feel like there old location was better all around. At the new spot, the customer service lacks and the wait time to receive your order is pretty insane for just a sandwich. This place is too cute for words. Love the little country farm theme they got going. It was very welcoming and so was the kind staff. Our cashier gave us some recommendations because it was my bf's and my first time. I would trust their recommendations because my turkey panini and my boyfriend's cubano were both on point. Our sandwiches came out hot with oozing cheese, which is what I look for in all my sandwiches, and mine had a little pesto sauce... so yummy. They were flavorful and the bread was crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. They weren't huge pieces of bread either where it's overwhelming like other sandwiches. The turkey and pulled pork were both so tender. You can really taste all the fresh ingredients. Our sandwiches also came with sides.. he got the apple spinach salad which was refreshing and simple. I loved the dressing. Mine came with their home made chips and salsa which were also good but I wish the salsa had more of a spicy kick. None the less...My boyfriend and I will dedinitely be back soon to try one of their other sandwiches. read more

We are always ready to try a new place, especially one close to home. And a contractor who came to our home earlier in the day recommended this place. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. I ordered the grilled ham and cheese, with chips and salsa, and my husband ordered the tri tip sandwich with chips and salsa. Those two sandwiches, plus two drinks -$27.00. Wow, it better be good for a couple of sandwiches. We watched several staff in the kitchen and three behind the counter appear to be busy. Not sure why, as everyone else in the restaurant already had their food. After more than 15 minutes, during which time the whole restaurant emptied out, our food finally arrived. My grilled ham and cheese was on two slices of bread - one was 1/4" thick, the other 1" thick. What? There were a total of four raw jalapeno pepper slices on it that made it very spicy, and I removed them. But what struck me most was that the whole sandwich was soggy. I think it had to do with the mismatched thickness of the bread, but made it unappetizing. My husband enjoyed the tri tip sandwich, but felt it was nothing special, and definitely not worth the price. The chips were good, but we both did not like the salsa. And the one person working to clean up started taking away his plate while he was still eating! We are both iced tea drinkers, but were very disappointed to find that rather than plain iced tea, it was a peach flavored tea. That would have been okay if they also had plain iced tea, or even marked the tea container as being peach. Yuk. Our experience was just okay, and sorry, but we probably won't be back. read more

Very disappointed. Tried it for first time last Fri for lunch, ordered Reuben sandwich with clam chowder soup. Bill was $14+ not incl tip. The wait was long. The soup was pretty good. The sandwich however was a rip-off. The rye bread was huge and thick so I thought pretty good size sandwich that's why it costs $11. When I looked inside it had 1 thin slice of corned beef that did not even cover the entire surface area of the bread, some cheese also not enough for the size of the bread, hardly any sauerkraut, and some dressing. I showed it to one of the sandwich makers up front told him I've never seen meat for Reuben sandwich this thin and he told me they preweigh everything. I ended up just putting the little bit of meat and cheese on 1/4 of the bread and didn't eat the rest of the bread. Totally dissatisfied, will never go back and will tell friends about it. read more

For Mothers Day My sister and I (also moms) took our mom to breakfast. Mimi's had a 2hr wait so we decided to go to Baguettes, better to support small business anyways. We were excited for a great Mother's Day Morning just the 3 of us!! This will be the last time we eat there. Great food, like really great sandwiches, But ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE customer service. Paula who I believe is the owner has NO BUSINESS working with the public. For the second time I have gone in to eat and they completely forgot to make our food. On both occasions after asking about our food we for attitude like it was our fault and she never once apologized. (The first time I thought "ok she's having a bad day" but second time. Lady you have issues!) When I told her this is the second time this has happened to me and she shot me a dirty look and said "Ok" and walked off! We finally got our food 30mins after ordering it and it took another 10 mins before she finally brought out our mimosas we ordered. (We ordered the bottle to witch she just poured the entire bottle into 3 wine glasses with a splash of juice, "claimed" the bottle was now empty, I don't believe her) Just before this we watched her snap at another couple who asked for their coffee when they didn't receive it. When she brought it over she gave them a ton of attitude. Someone like this should not be serving customers. I don't care if your having a bad day or not, you leave that at the door and treat people who are keeping you in business with respect. A mediocre restaurant with amazing service will outlast an establishment with great food and TERRIBLE service!! If you want to eat an over priced ($53 dollars for 2 quiche, a sandwich and 3 mimosas) sandwich at a place where you will be served cold food extremely late and treated with complete disrespect I hight recommend Baguettes in Elk Grove!! I went here for quick lunch on a hot Saturday. When I walked in, it was actually really different than what I was expecting. The decor inside was really cute! and I found a lot of things on the menu that I wanted to eat. I ended up ordering the Chicken & Bacon Sandwich. It was a fair size and came with a broccoli salad side for $11. I ended up eating more of my friend's Clam Chowder and Ryan's Special. I appreciate that they had some good beers on tap - I got a Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat. I didn't appreciate the cashier lacking any decent customer service skills or any of the other 10 workers behind the counter that seemed to not pay any attention to my group whatsoever. I just didn't get a welcoming vibe which is unfortunate because it seems like it would be a cool place to eat good food and grab a get a few brews in Elk Grove otherwise.
