Very good greek food here as recommended by my very good friend that lives nearby. Once entering you will see fresh cuts of meats and vegetables to the left. which looks pretty good and lets me know some good food is in this place. One of the nicest ladies ever waited on us and made our dining experience awesome! She had a very pleasant greek accent and took very good care of usShe even playfully picked on my friend that has funny, not so adventurous eating habits. We started out with a nice spread of different greek sauces to go along with our bread...they all were very tasty. I then ordered the Mousakas which looks like a slab of greek lasagna. It was basically layers of eggplant, ground beef and bechamel sauce which made for a very tasty dish. It came along with lemon potatoes wedges which were huge and pretty tasty as well. They had Mythos beer so I had to get that as well. Very good place to dine that has great food and phenomenal service! read more

A local Greek pointed me here and when I arrived, noticed only more Greeks dining so, SCORE! I absolutely abhor the fact that almost everyone else directs me to Kyclades - do I also look like I go to Joe's Shanghai for soup dumplings??? (hint to the rhetorical question: NO). So my family and I start with a Greek salad, the grilled calamari, the octopus and some bread. We also ask for the special bass, along with their okra, which is soaked in a tomato-olive oil sauce. Let me tell you, the fish is super fresh - and meaty! We ask for more lemon olive oil and oregano to sprinkle on; perfect! The grilled calamari was the perfect texture too. The octopus was good too and went well with the capers, but a little too charred. We ordered another side of vegetables - gigantes as the Greeks call them, which is essentially lima beans in a tomato sauce. We skipped the moussaka and souvlaki this time around. Go for the fish. Came here with a party of 8 for a friend's birthday. He's Greek so he did all the ordering. The rest of us barely even looked at the menus - except to contemplate beer options. We decided to do everything family style so this is what we had: - Greek Salads + Green Salad - Tzatziki for bread dipping - Charcoal Grilled Octopus - Grilled Calamari - Fried Zucchini + Eggplant with garlic spread - Baby lamb in tomato sauce + orzo - Lamb lollipops or lamb chops - Spinach Rice - Lemon potatoes What was good: EVERYTHING What was bad: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Except maybe the Ouzo shots we did - I'm not a huge fan. The feta from the salads was SO good. I just wanted to sit there and sit blocks of it. The grilled octopus was phenomenal - so chewy and well cooked. The garlic spread for the fried veggies is a bit like garlic mashed potatoes so it really hit the spot for me. Both lamb dishes were extremely tender - especially the oven baked baby lamb in tomato sauce! It almost melted in our mouths. The spinach rice was also super flavorful - the rice was soft and the spinach was well seasoned. The Boyfriend kept trying to steal the rice on my plate! It's a bit of a hassle to get to Astoria from where I live - it's like going from one end of the N/Q to the other end. BUT I will definitely be back because this place was SO good. They're also willing to separate the bill into multiple credit cards, which is always a plus. read more

Can't say enough about this place. I asked locals for a good, authentic greek spot and they did not disappoint. I love that they have their fish on display for their patrons to see that the quality, and freshness of fish that they serve. What I loved even more... it doesn't smell like a fish market which asserted that they only carry the finest, and freshest seafood. I ordered the KALAMARAKIA SCHARAS (grilled marinated squid) hot appetizer and it was cooked to perfection!!! A slight crunch on the outside, and soft on the inside. The sauce it was in was delicious as well. Upon opening it, I ate the entire thing in my car because I could not wait until I got home. In a place like Astoria, Greek food is available in abundance. This is actually just a note for myself so that I don't forget the name of this restaurant when I'm back! We made the trek from Morningside Heights to Astoria for some Greek eats! Bahari did not disappoint. Order the grilled octopus appetizer. At first I wasn't so sure about consuming large pieces of octopus (I've had it before, just never really craved it). It was really good! Not tough but soft and slightly chewy. I ordered the Pastitsio, Greek lasagna. I couldn't even finish it all! But it was delicious. When we flew into JFK late on a Thurs night from the West Coast, we were happy to see the restaurant was open until 11pm. We arrived about 10pm with big appetites and the food and service was all top notch. The Greek Salad and Lemon Avgolemono was all on point. Food and service were both similar but with the service slightly below average. We first got the Krya Pikilia (5 assorted spreads) with pita, my friend and I liked the Roasted Eggplant (melintzanosalata) the best and the Spicy Feta Cheese spread (Tyrokafteri). If we go again, we'd probably just order the eggplant one. The Branzini was average and didn't notice anything special about it. Overall, it can be improved. read more

I've lived in Astoria for over 20 years and only set foot in this establishment last week. Seafood was super fresh and perfectly cooked. The star of the show was the assorted dips and pita. Service was a little off, but my friend who dines there regularly said it usually excellent. read more

***THIS***..... is the place to go for Greek seafood. Before you walk in, you can take a look at the fresh fish of the day, glistening and shiny atop a bed of ice from the front window. Then you walk in, sit down, and finally get to order it. There are a variety of different market fish, all for different market prices. Ask what the special of the day is. They have red snapper, orata, branzino, sea bass, striped bass, and more. All are prepared very simply: dressed with good quality olive oil, salt, and pepper, then grilled. Afterwards, it's garnished with more of that good olive oil (you can really taste it!) and some lemon. Amazing. You get one side with your fish, and the lemon potatoes are a great choice. I also ordered an avgolemono soup -- it's a Greek soup with chicken, lemon, and egg. It was hearty, flavorful, and just the perfect balance of sour with savory. I also liked that they used dark meat in the soup as it turned out tender and not dry -- like most chicken soups with breast meat turn out to be. Service is wonderful and the setting is beautiful. They have two dining rooms and both have their own distinct moods -- so pick the one you like better. But please, focus on the food. The fish here really deserves your attention! read more

Grilled fresh fish/seafood with lemon, olive oil and herbs is what they have... plus the staples like souvlaki, saganaki, moussaka and pastitso. The food here is absolutely incredible. Can recommend everything on the menu. Favorites: Papoutsaki - perfectly roasted eggplant stuffed with meat and covered in a delicious bechamel. Stuffed cabbage - So. good. Filling such a great mix of meat and rice. Lemony sauce all over the top. Spanakopita - Best spinach pie in the neighborhood. Green beans - traditional Greek style cooked forever in a tomato sauce until they are fall apart delicious. Honorable mentions: Saganaki, Gigantes, Souvlaki, and the assorted spreads appetizer. Also great are the little desserts they give you after your meal, a small piece of galaktoboureko and a sort of polenta cake. The service is usually pretty great, and has always been very understanding of friends with allergies. The one note I have is that on busy nights the hostess out front could use some extra help. Came here on saturday and had a reservation 730, we were seated closer to 8, but I definitely recommend making one as the wait would of been longer had we not. The food was good. As an appetizer we got the feta saaganaki, it was pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of things that are super creamy but I thought it was pretty good. The entrees were betted I got the half chicken and my friend got the lamb stew, with the lemon potatos on the side, it was super yummy. I'm a huge fan of meat that just falls apart and is super tender which both our dishes were Also the portions were huge for the price. Best treat is you get a free dessert, which was this cream filled flaky thing and as spongy cake thing...which I thought was delicious. Although the food was great, the service was slow to come to the table and then rushed us to order. My friend and I are not familiar with Greek food so we had a lot of questions, which he just rushed us through and didn't really provide answers. Also we each order something else first and then the waiter came back saying they ran out....I just don't see how a restaurant runs out of their entree dishes, especially on weekends. read more

Delicious Greek food in Astoria - Bahari feels like you are transported to your Greek grandmother's home in Greece when you walk through to the back of the restaurant. The spread is a must order to start for the table and the warm pita bread that comes (you need to ask for it or else they give you regular hero bread - no thank you) with it will keep you going for more. Grilled octopus - Good portion and this was DELISH. Grilled Squid - The seasoning of this was perfect. Another good starter. Mousakka - yum yum yum. Greek comfort food at its best. Grilled Red Snapper - I asked for it to be deboned. Only managed to finish half of it and it was still good two days later after I steamed it back up. Fish was very fresh. Popped in by myself at 4 pm after a visit to Roosevelt Island. Have dined here pre pandemic and the Greek staples moussaka were always good, service always rushed. This visit I ventured into lamb which was great but the gravy was bland. The service was awful. One waiter took my order but a waitress brought my entree and just plopped it in the table without clearing empty dishes. I think if you're not a regular the service suffers. Will try another taverna. read more

Stopped in between lunch and dinner (around 430p) and the place was busy - seated in the back room which, after a large party left, gave us the room alone for about 20min before it filled again! Half Carafe of house white, Kyra Pikilia w cucumbers (could've had more cucumbers), warm pita, cod, whole fish and green beans and rice on the side to share. Wish they'd deboned the fish as it was quite delicate and took a bit to eat carefully (-1/2 star). Complementary small deserts at the end was a nice surprise. Service was decent but not great. Okay Yelpers, we need to talk. I've never felt as lead astray as I do today. I hate to leave a bad review, but I went to Bahari last night for Valentine's Day and I'm sad to report that my experience did not live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong. The food is good. Best Greek food in Astoria? I think not. But pretty good. We got the charcoal grilled octopus and eggplant spread for appetizers which were both excellent. I got the grilled shrimp for dinner and my husband got the lamb chops and those were both great too. The shrimp needed a little work in terms of adding salt and extra lemon, but I'm sure that's just my preference! Now, we need to talk about the service because this place is seriously lacking. My waiter, I think maybe his name was Mike, was the most disinterested waiter in the history of my dining experiences to date. When we inquired if the dip came with pita bread, we got a nod for an answer, and then the pita never actually came. We ended up having to flag down our elusive waiter just to get the pita that came with the dish. When our food was delivered to the table he was nowhere to be seen, he never checked in on us, our drinks were never refilled. The easy stuff just wasn't getting done. The kicker was at the very end, as we were getting up from the table, our waiter started wrapping up the tablecloth and yelled "next!" and opened the folio looking for the tip. The lack of etiquette was really evident throughout, but that took the cake. So overall, the food wasn't good enough to compensate for the horrible service we received. read more

Came here for dinner. An excellent Greek restaurant at a fraction of the price of Manhattan. Very easy to get to: W or N train at Broadway. The roasted eggplant spread was amazing and I am not really a big eggplant fan. I could eat 2 orders of this with pita bread and call it a night. We had the lamb chops, whole red snapper and loup de mer. They were very fresh and seasoned and cooked perfectly. We had this with okra and string beans. We finished with the complementary dessert which was small, thankfully, since we were quite full. Service was very good and friendly. The place gets packed so reservation is strongly recommended. I was very disappointed by this place! I took my parents here, being that I love Greek food and wanted to them to try it. First, the drinks we ordered took longer than usual, which I found strange. Then we finally ordered our food; this is where it got ridiculous. We waited almost 1.5 hours for our food! The waitress just told us multiple times that our food is coming, and when we finally got it, they did not even bring the right side from my dad's order! And the food was mediocre! I requested to speak to a manager and she stated that we were suppose to tell the waitress that we wanted our food right after our apps; since when does this happen at restaurants?? N/Q to Broadway leaves you steps away from this solid restaurant. Our party of 20 ordered nearly everything on the menu. All delish. Simply cooked but done well. Grilled octopus is wonderful because it is so succulent and soft, not the least bit rubbery. Shark was fantastic. They bring you free dessert. It can be painfully loud in there when all the tables are full. They need to add some texture to the walls to absorb the sound because we had to shout to talk to the person sitting right next to us. It felt like I was in a bright white club. There were only Greek wines on the list. Someone ordered a red that was labelled as full bodied but really just tasted like a table wine. Very light in color, I didn't get a hint of a buzz from downing four glasses of it. The glasses are wee, by the way. 'd say three of those would be equivalent to one typical Riedel red glass. Service was excellent. Especially when managing so many people. Very friendly. In short- excellent place to break bread. read more

Phenomenal. I have wanted to eat at Bahari for a long time, always noticing the fresh fish in the window and the Michelin recommended sticker. But the fact that it doesn't look like a restaurant from the outside kinda made me feel weird. (And glad to know I wasn't the only one!) I ordered for the table: 2 oktapodi scharas - grilled octopus krya pikkikia - spread platter galeos - fried baby shark with skordalia 2 kinds of grilled bass paidakia - lamb chops brizolaa moschharisia - rib eye papoutsaki - stuffed eggplant arni psito - leg of lamb keftedes- meatballs bpriam - zuchinni Almost all of these dishes came with a side of veggies and a starch. Rather than make my ordering more confusing, the waiter was kind enough to say - "I'll give you a little of everything and let you pass it around." Rock on awesome waiter. I have to admit I liked everything except the leg of lamb, which was too lean, and the spread platter, which just wasn't exciting compared to everything else. The lamb chops and rib eye were cooked just as directed and were seasoned well. The grilled octopus made me do a happy dance (I wish I had ordered more!). The men even enjoyed the stuffed eggplant (men eat vegetables??) The service was fast and we were in and out in about an hour and a half (for a group dinner?! Inconceivable!) Went a week ago, we go quite often, and enjoyed whole fishes( requested a large Porgy and got what I wanted...huge) and lots of sides and vegetables. The okra is great as is the greek salad and the grilled Squid & Octopus. Dont forget to order a carafe of Retsina, easy on the pocketbook and heavy on the mind! Makes for a wonderful experience. I tend to be confused in Greek restaurants because I don't really know what to order. "Get the grilled fish," people kept saying. "You won't regret it." But there's all at market price! But I was tempted to splurge because of peer pressure. And you know what? I didn't regret it. I started with Avgolemono, which is the traditional Greek chicken soup and it tasted great for someone getting over a flu. The spread sampler was good, but be warned: it does not come with pita bread. You'll have to order it separately or use the complimentary bread. For my entree, I got the Brazini with bone-off. It was crispy and and melted in my mouth at the same time. Definite fresh fish grilled to perfection. One of the best fish I've ever had. For dessert, finish it all off with a Galaktoboureko, a Greek flaky pastry stuff with custard. Delicious. read more
