I've always wanted to go to the best Greek place in Astoria. After years of trying, it actually happened today. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was charming and the food, well, the food. We started with a particularly fresh and good tzatziki and then baked sheep cheese with plenty of lemon to squeeze on top. Both were home runs. For mains, we had stuffed peppers, moussaka and calimari. Although the calimari was okay, but the others were divine. We'll be back very soon! read more

This place has the best lentil soup in Astoria. Their lunch menu is affordable and of excellent quality. I sometimes come for the salmon with peas. The fried calamari with salad is also a very good option. Fish is fresh, service is quick. There is plenty of space to sit. Backyard is very pleasant. People are attentive and kind. A friend recommended this place for the authentic delicious food. Unfortunately, all we received was authentic poor service. First, when we called for a reservation they explained that no reservation was required. It was on first come first serve basis. However,once we arrived people were walking in to be seated with reservations. The owner expressed that it was her mistake she will seat us momentarily but she was waiting for a table to get up. The table was clearly not considered of the covid climate we are living and took their sweet time. We waited forty five minutes and nothing. As we people continued to walk in, clearly regulars that the owner knew, she sat them before our party of four table. It was utterly disgusting. read more

Horrible customer service. I called to make reservations and they said they don't take any. When we arrived we saw that they took reservations from other people . Then they made us wait 45 minutes and when a table opened up they took customers they know instead of us and the owner spoke to us like we are second class citizens. read more

Lots of Greek places out in Astoria but most are mediocre at best. Bahari sets itself apart from the competition. This place came highly recommended from a local who knows the area well. We were not disappointed. Even though they have no windows the back room is White Brick with lots of light. They have ropes hanging from the ceilings in the front room which gives it a nautical theme. It's not a fancy place but the star of the show is the fresh food especially the fish. Table are well spced out and it's clean. We started with Krya Pikilia-Spreads which include (Taramosalata, Tzatziki, Skordalia, Melintzanosalata and Tyrokafteri. Ask then for the Pita which is hot and goes better with it than the French bread they give you. All were packed with flavor and freshness. Clearly they we're homemade recipes and well executed. They give you a little of each and it's good for 4. We also ordered the Saganaki which is a Pan-seared Kefalograviera cheese that was perfectly cooked and not greasy at all. We ordered the Dorado as a main with Lemon potatoes as the complimentary side. Keftedes which are Pan-fried beef meatballs sounded good and we were told they we're the best around. The fish was a little overcooked but very tasty. Like most Greek places they will remove the bones for you if you ask and it's prepared by being grilled in the oven and some Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The meatballs did not disappoint. Large, busting with flavor and fluffy. Once again this was clearly some Grandma's recipe brought over from the old country Personally I'd like a little more salt in them but you should definitely get them. Service is efficient and friendly. We were greeted and seated immediately on a Friday night at 8:30. They place was about half full and it had a mixed crowd of locals and people who had came here as a destination spot. It's right next to the train but you don't hear it inside the restaurant. Took about 10 minutes to get there from midtown. All in all if you want great fresh food, in the mood for some Greek and don't want to spend $50 a head this is a place you will be coming back to. A real local spot. Expect the bill to be about $20-$30 a head depending on what you order. read more

I worked a few store fronts away from Bahari for 3 years. I can't say enough about their: MEATBALLS!, lemon potatos, pork chops, rice, salad. Basically everything. One of the BEST, most authentic Greek restaurants I have ever tried. Almost matched yiayia's cooking. Almost. ;) The staff is always super friendly, fast, and the one chef always has a smile. This is a classic Astoria Greek Taverna. The kitchen is on the left when you enter the restaurant and you can see the meat and fish being prepared. We were in no hurry so it was a little annoying having the waitress come to us every 5 minutes to ask us for our order. When we did order two of us asked for the ARNI PSITO (oven roasted boneless lamb sliced tender loins). After placing the order the waitress came back to say there was only one order of the lamb left - so maybe she was right to pester us. The food was very fresh and perfectly prepared. As for sides:Lima beans and okra are the best bets Service is generally smooth and attentive even when its crowded. Oh and ask for some toasted pita, its extra but woth it. Came here for dinner with a couple of friends... People, if you live on this side of Astoria Blvd and don't want to wait 2 hours for a table at Kyclades, come here! The grilled octopus is pretty damn good. I thought it had more flavor than Kyclades. We ordered multiple fishes on the menu that were grilled. Sea Bass - whole grilled and deboned was awesome. Branzino - whole grilled and deboned was awesome. Grilled Calamari - was great and not too chewy. The fish was with head and tail. I don't think I saw any scallops on menu so you have to order the fish. It's not like that place a block away "Locale" that gives you 2 fliets of branzino and charges you the same. The only turn off about this place is they have a microwave in the kitchen heating up sides..And the kitchen is in front of the restaurant! People don't want to see you nuking food, especially when your showing them how fresh you are preparing the main courses.. This is a fast paced restaurant food and service is quick. This place is a hidden gem. If you are looking for a romantic candle lit place for dinner forget it. This place is all about the food. Your not going to sit here for 3 hours holding hands lovey dovey. Eat, leave and make babies at home! read more

We've been coming here for years and have never, ever had a bad meal. I love everything I both customarily order regularly as well as the new things I try here. My favorites are as follows: Avogolemono Soup, Melizanasalata, Tzatsiki, Saganaki, Horiatiki, Kokinisto, Garides Saganaki...I can go on and on. We also love this place because it feels like home to us, especially during Greek Easter, when many families have their midnight dinner here to celebrate the end of Lent. I have to say that my absolute favorite part of the meal is the sample of Greek desserts (usually Galaktoburiko & Semolina/Farina-type cake) offered at the end of the meal! It's always a treat to visit Bahari, and we never hesitate making the trip all the way from Jersey when we can for a terrific homestyle Greek meal. read more

Food was awesome, even though 2-3 different dishes we wanted to try were "not available at this time". But we loved what we ordered, portions were huge and everything was yummy. The only thing, that since this place is open till 12pm, we came for dinner around 10 pm. They had just two tables busy, and staff obviously werent happy for us, late guests. Great Greek food! This is my go-to when I have out-of-town guests. It may not look like much from the street, but the restaurant is spacious and bright. One potential downside is that the service was very slow. The servers are very polite, but somehow it always seems to take three hours for dinner. As long as you know to expect that ahead of time, it's not too bad. Just don't make after-dinner plans. ;-) read more

My family and I are regulars here. The food and service is consistently great. Best way to order here is appetizers, appetizers, appetizers. That's not to take away from their main dishes which are equally as excellent. But, why limit your options? We like to order a whole bunch of appetizers, from grilled octopus to fried calamari, drunken saganaki, salads, sausage, horta, dips... the list goes on and on. This place is outstanding love the food here, is my forth time at this place after my friend recommended and im not changing it. Every time i come i try a new vegetarian dish they're mix vegetables and limabeans and so many other vegetables . My boyfriend love the fish here always cook to perfection (black seabass) they're lamb chops he say never eat them no where else and the chicken kebab so flavorful. They're sttaf so friendly too. And we all ways share a cold antipasto that is so delicious. Cant wait to take my parents here. read more

Bahari deserves 10 stars. My wonderful friend took me here to celebrate my birthday last night. I didn't get anyone's name but the service was amazing. We had reservations for 7pm- we came in at 6:45 and were seated right away. The restaurant is lovely- clean, exposed brick walls and bright white walls. On to the food... For appetizer we got the grilled calamari..OMG it was beyond delicious- soft as butter and seasoned perfectly. We then ordered the Lima beans- soft, tender, in a delicious, light tomato sauce enhanced with onion, spices and I believe a bit of carrot. For our main dishes we both ordered the grilled Branzino- filleted for me and whole for her- this dish was perfect in its simplicity- grilled with olive oil, we sprinkled some salt and lemon juice on them and they were mouthwatering. Definitely get the Branzino. For sides I ordered the okra which was amazing and my friend ordered the lemon potatoes. Everything was beyond delicious. At the end of the meal they brought us complimentary deserts and sang happy birthday to me which I usually don't like at restaurants but they were tasteful and I appreciated everyone's well wishes. All in all it was an amazing experience and we already made plans to come back * Note- not a complaint per se, but the bread basket given when you sit down would be much better served warm.. it was basically soggy Italian bread but no worries as it left room in our tummies for the rest of the amazing food. I grew up in Astoria and my Parents owned a candy store on the same block as Bahari. We stumbled upon this place while doing a memory lane walk in the neighborhood. The service upon our arrival was warm and friendly. I judge all Greek Restaurants by the moussaka since we had many Greek friends in Astoria and I've had my share of homemade. Well let's just say it brought tears to my eyes!! It was just as good or better than what I grew up with!!! My Husband had the grilled shrimp was was cooked to perfection. By mistake we ordered a whole carafe (enough for four) of the House wine and I'm not complaining it was delicious. We polished it off and left happy, full and a little tipsy!! We were telling some our friends about this find and it turns out they go every Friday!! So if you live in Astoria lucky you if you are in the other boroughs take a train, plane or automobile and go!!!! read more

We had dinner here on October 21, 2017. I would give this place five stars for the food, which was amazing. We had grilled octopus, lamb chops, greek salad, saganaki, and shark. It was all amazing. But I have to give this place a few stars off because of the service. We had reservations at 8pm and were only seated closer to 9pm. Our waiter sucked. We never got refills on our waters. It took them so long to bring our bill, someone in our party had to get up and ask for it at the front. This was our first time trying Bahari and I think we would go again because the food was great, but these guys do not know how to handle a Saturday night rush. Bahari is the bomb for Greek food. It's reasonably priced and everything is fresh and delicious. Start with the taramosalata or the saganaki and one of their delicious salads (the elliniki is my favorite). As far as mains go, their grilled calamari, roast chicken, biftekia and the moussaka are all on my rotation, and I'm a huge fan of their lemon potatoes as a side dish. They have decent wines for about $6 a glass and you always get a free and delicious dessert. read more

I give it five stars because it knows when to leave well enough alone and that simplicity is a virtue not often achieved. That said, the whole fish buried in the ice up front (like so may greek restaurants, the kitchen is up front, or near it, and you pass it on the way in) tells you that this is the place for perfectly grilled fish. Eat wisely: go down the menu and you'll find modestly priced dishes that peal to the carnivore, but some of them, such as the roast chicken with inedibly dry breast meat, are not stars of the kitchen. That said, roast baby lamb, a special for Greek Easter, was spectacular. The answer with all these neighborhood restaurants is, I suppose, if they do not have the good sense to pare their menus themselves to what theory do best, the intelligent diner has to do it for them. So Bahari gets the five stars for what it does best. read more
