Oh my, I love this place...everything is authentic and delicious here. I came with my girl for lunch, we had the kalamarakia scharas, (grilled calamari), kolokythakia (fried zucchini), and patatas lemonates as our sides. Main dish I had some of the kotopoulo souvlaki (chicken kebob on skewer) and I think another seafood dish. The grilled calamari was my favorite however. Service was great! I found Bahari years ago when I lived in Astoria. I now have two young daughters that beg to go there on our visits to NYC. The fish is fresh and cooked to perfection. Great food and excellent service. I went with a friend and between the two of us and the friendly matron/waitress, we ordered a spread fit for royalty. Some memorable dishes that are to die for are the carp roe and potato spread (bread was divine... sometimes serving simple yet excellent food is what hits the spot), baby shark, jumbo shrimp and striped bass. For some reason the famous grilled octopus which everyone raves about was not that great for us. It was alittle rubbery, perhaps this was just a one-off thing. I came here for a family member's birthday and was very much looking forward to it after reading these reviews. I left here highly disappointed and don't see myself returning in the future. I was not impressed with the ambience of the restaurant. It seemed very cluttered and tight. The chair of someone at the table next to ours was touching mine and I couldn't even move my chair to get up. I LOVE Greek food and immediately ordered some moussaka. The waiter told me they didn't have. What? No moussaka at a Greek restaurant? This was disappointing as this is my favorite Greek dish. Ok, fine, so I ordered pastichio instead. The waiter told me they didn't have that either. At this point I wasn't sure if I was in a Greek restaurant or not. Well, third time's the charm I thought to myself as I ordered keftedes. I reluctantly placed the order. Later on he waiter came with everyone's food and told me they did not have keftedes so they made me biftekia instead. I did not order this, but was given it anyway. The food was okay, but again this was not what I ordered. Our reservations were for 8PM so I doubt they ran out of food by the time we came in. Also, there was a line of at least four people waiting for the bathroom which was annoying because I felt like I was waiting forever to get to use it. When I finally did get to it, it was quite dirty. I really like Greek food but apparently this is not the place to get that. Honestly, I'm pretty surprised by the high reviews. read more

Afterward I had a Great tasting lunch for a very reasonable price :) As soon as I walked through the door of Bahari Estiatorio I was greeted with wonderful smiles and warm hellos by the staff and the owner Anna Myroni. Bahari has been in the same location 31-14 Broadway for 11 years! The food was delicious with every bite! Quick History: About 1 1/2 years ago "Bahari Estiatorio" on 31-14 Broadway in Astoria NY was once called "Stamatis Restaurant". Please be aware the only thing that had changed was the name. nice greek restaurant in a neighborhood full with greek restaurants... the food is ok, not more than that. the hot table food is kind of home made but everything is so oily!?not sure if this is the way it should be. the employes are friendly and welcoming but the place runs by such a mess management that this is really annoying after the 5th time you ask for something and after the 7th time you ask for your check. i will not come back to bahari,maybe i will do TO GO on a cold day but not more than that. there is too many better places around here. the 4 star is just because it should be 3.5 but that option is not there yet and i don't want to damage a business for that reason. read more

Have you ever tried to find your way through the Greek restaurant jungle in Astoria? We have been practicing this special activity for the past 5 years. Especially based on friends tips, word of mouth etc... At the end even if I am still convinced that there are still a couple of undiscovered places from our side, so we have a pretty complete overview about the offer. So our personal favorite is surely neither the most fancy nor the one everybody talks about (especially because "the one" changed too often the past years), but only the one we considered the best for food, hospitality and prices so just the real deal. Bahari in our opinion made a perfect job the past 5 years we have been there. The food is consistent, the place is welcoming not too cozy not too sophisticated just right. They understand how to grill lamb chops ( a real big issue in the neighborhood). Personally I am a taramo salad freak, and I must say they just do it right. I love the fact to see the fresh fish, and the meats displayed when you enter the place and let you salivating about your upcoming order. As said it is just down to earth 90% of the clients are loyal Greek customers, so no question about the authenticity of the food. I love the fact that you always get a little sweets on the house after your meal and that the carafe (1 liter) of wine is like the rest just right and exactly the perfect size to let us enjoy a cozy meal. Last but not least they take CC (another issue in the neighborhood) and still don't overprice. SO for those who needs an alternative to our LIC restaurants, believe me all included (cab, food, wine, baby sitter and all) still the best bet to enjoy Greek food in the neighborhood. This place is a lot bigger than one would think by just glimpsing in. The decor is minimal. There's rope extended from all corners of the ceiling and different vibrant colored shutters cover the back wall which makes the bathroom door almost unnoticeable. I came for lunch on a Friday afternoon looking forward to some Greek food. I almost fell off my chair when i found out this place doesn't serve stuffed grape leaves!!! Once my friend and I composed ourselves we ordered the fried kalamari which came with a side salad and some rice, and the grilled salmon with lemon potatoes and peas. The kalamari was very fresh but a bit over breaded. The best was the grilled salmon and the peas which had a bit of dill and lemon butter sauce. We went family style so we can sample a lil' bit of everything. On the table (Jenn L. has all the Greek names down to a T--please see her review): -Dip/spread sampler. The eggplant and cucumber were the most memorable for me. Be sure to ask for pita bread b/c the Italian bread in the basket can be a bit heavy for the spreads. -The Lemon Roasted Potatoes were amazing. Potato wedges infused with lemon and herbs. Just the right amount of flavor. -Black Sea Bass (filleted) with a side of zucchini. I agree with Jenn L., the fish was a bit bland in comparison to the palette of flavors we had on the table. I still enjoyed it but I would like to try the smelt next time. -Ground Beef Patties. This was served with more cucumber dip. The patties were delicious! -Greek lasagna (Mousakas). Very traditional Greek dish. I love eggplants so I enjoyed the combination of pasta, eggplants and oh, was it cream? I thought it was cheese. Whatever it was, it was good! Oh, and the side of Okra was simple and delicious as well. To top it off, dessert was on the house. It was a warm phyllo dough with layers of custard (well, I think it should have been in layers). The first thing you've got to know about this Greek food restaurant is that it is family style. If that's not you're type...well, I still feel like it will be worth it to go. I am a family style type of girl so I loved it. To be honest, my cousin was the one who did the ordering but I can remember descriptively what we had. We ordered a hummus spread plate which had a variety of 5 or 6 different spreads. It was delicious and just enough spread to find your favorite. My cousin then ordered two entrees that came with 1 side. And that was good for feeding us three. We cleaned up those plates. My cousin said that if you get a lot of people to go, it'd be better so that way you could basically order the whole menu. She ordered lamb slices which were cooked tenderly with creamy sauce. We had some okra dish that was awesome, never have I had okra like that. There was a "lasagna-type" dish- definitely something you should get. Lemon potatoes - obviously yum. Free desert afterwards. Best Greek food I've ever had. Here's the only thing people may not like: The service is very lax. You need to really ask your waiter/waitress for the check if you're ready to go. I love this place so much that my husband and I had our wedding reception dinner here and it was a huge hit. (They are obviously gay-friendly and ever since we had our big dinner there, the owner - Ana - treats us like family.) I've lived in Astoria for over nine years, but I have been going to Bahari for longer than that (when it was called Stamatis). I was brought there by my Greek friend (not Greek American, a Greek temporarily living in the US) who also didn't live anywhere around the place. We trekked into Queens only for Stamatis (Bahari) because she said authoritatively, "This is the best Greek food in New York." Who am I to question? All I know is that it is delicious and I like it better than any other Greek place I've been to. I went to Santorini and Athens for my honeymoon. The food was amazing, but Bahari is as good as any meal I had there. (Many Greeks say the same about the real Greek places in Astoria being as good as anything in Athens.) Unless you have a Greek grandmother, Bahari is the best Greek food you'll ever have. read more

I really enjoyed my time at Bahari. I think that if you come several times they are used to you and you get better service. Some of the dishes I enjoy are stuffed eggplant and grilled chicken. I will try the seafood at some point. I thought that the stuffed eggplant was delicious and I thought that the staff was very nice.
