Food is good except of the greens which were dry... not as dry as the servers though; 3 stars for the service!!!

My Greek boyfriend's father chose this place for dinner last night. We had the spinach pie (my boyfriend said it's one of the best he's had), the octopus (seasoned very well), pita bread with tzatziki sauce (yum), pan fried cod with skordalia (the Greek version of fish and chips....so simple...so good), horta (dandelion...interesting flavor but needed salt), and lemon potatoes. My girl took me to this restaurant to try out some greek food because she is greek. I ordered moussaka as my main dish. It's super delicious. I will rate it 7/10. This restaurant is medium size. we got there around 7pm and it was packed. We were seated promptly and the waiter was enthusiastic and helpful. One thing I really like about this place was that the food arrived very quick. We ordered our food and they were served in less than 5 minutes. read more

Not really sure why this place has 4 stars. The service was so incredibly slow we had to wait over half an hour for our food to come out. There was one waitress tending to all of the tables. The food was just okay nothing spectacular kind of oily for my taste. When asked why the food took so long (because there really weren't that many people ahead of us) the waitress made an excuse that the pork skewers took long to cook but really half an hour long? There's tons of Greek places in this area I would recommend checking another place out. read more

Seriously! ONLY one review.. REALLY! common people! My first visit was in November 2009 and it was one of my best dining experiences! I went there on a half empty stomach after a bad experience with a sushi place down the road! and I still had an AMAZING experience! I give it 4 stars and not 5 because I have not tried everything on the menu and I went there only once.. The food was more than 5 stars.. I would give it 10 out of 5 (that is if you are familiar with Greek food). We had the grilled squid and it was better than anything we have ever had before (squid-wise)! We also had the "LOUP DE MER, BRANZINI Whole Mediterranean Stripe Bass" simply amazing! The food is beyond this world! Open kitchen lets you see what the chefs are cooking right as you enter the joint. Great wine selection, and family-friendly service, but the food is the real winner here. No matter what you order, these are genuine greek delicacies. Left me and my girlfriend full and at the same time, hungry for more the next day. It's instantly become our favorite Friday night dinner spot. I wish I could give zero stars to this restaurant. My father swears by this place, intially I thought it was just okay. But recently when ordering out, I sampled some of the orzo side dish and was absolutely disgusted to find a hair embedded in the plate of food. I lived in Astoria for over two decades, and dined in most Greek restaurants of the area during that time. Bahari is clearly the best of them. It is an unbelievable bargain if you look at quality vis a vis price. No surprise it is so busy! Their food is excellent, service is cordial, and, most importantly, the owners (I got to know them both as I dined there several times) will go out of their way to help you. Of course, there will always be weirdos ready to give one star to this joint because it was "too busy" to accommodate their party (really? and it's the restaurant's fault that they are busy?) or claim to have found a roach under the potato (really? and you left without saying anything, only to post a negative review later?). The truth for those who really visited Bahari is that this is the BEST Greek place in Astoria. read more

Used to be called Stamatis, but there is another Stamatis on Ditmars (unrelated) which is also good. This one, renamed Bahari, is better in my opinion. Have been to this place countless times and it remains a favorite. I'm a lifelong Astorian and have eaten real Greek food at friends' houses made by their mothers... and this is the real deal. Worth coming from Manhattan or the other boroughs for. Greek salad: real kalamata olives and yummy moist feta. Souvlaki, moussaka (Greek eggplant), pastitio (Greek ziti), saganaki (fried cheese), stuffed peppers, tzatziki (cucumber yogurt sauce), lemon potatoes, all fantastic. Try the peas and artichokes side dish, they are outstanding. Have not heard anyone say they didn't like what they ordered. Service is friendly and attentive. Have ordered delivery which is also good. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is equally good for a date or family. The only thing I don't understand is why they serve Italian bread and not pita. They have pita, just ask for it. Also wish they had brewed iced tea instead of Lipton in cans, but these are minor points. This place is win :) read more

Very good restaurant but one should be aware that some of the fried fished are HEAVILY breaded, ie, cod, etc. Appetizers especially the dips are excellent--kind of chintzy to charge for extra pita bread. Wine list is very good and quite reasonable. Deserves a second visit. read more

I have been her three times and won't be coming back. Each and every time they have run out of dishes I would like to order .And they bring a substitute for part of the dish without asking . For example ran out of rice and brought potatoes . Octopus is very good as well as the dandelions. Pork souvlaki part of it dry and part undercooked. Lachanikeftedes were good but gigantes should not have been brought to the table.Burnt and without sauce. Frustrating when they run out of food stated on menu and they should tell you if gigantes were on bottom of tray. Spent over 100 dollars. Won't be going back read more

look there's a million greek restaurants in astoria. i've tried a bunch of them over the years. they're all good. i think this one's my favorite. wait staff is a little grumpy but in a charming way. house wine is cheap but good. free dessert semolina pudding thing is a nice touch. but the food is just so legit. the spreads are legit the best in town. fish / octopus / calamari not cheap but always good. souvlaki always on point. basically everything here is at least good and decently priced. only complaint is the veggie sides are always a lil slimey and overcooked, but i think that's just a thing in astoria greek places. read more

I came for dinner to Bahari a couple of nights ago. I was impressed with the menu to say the least. My group and I shared the platter of different dips for appetizer and it was very delicious. We also sampled a cup of their lemon chicken soup. Again, very nice. For the entree I ordered the Dorado and was very impressed. The fish was just incredibly fresh. All in all, a very nice place that serves good authentic Greek cuisine. Definitely worth visiting again. read more

I ordered take out this afternoon and was not only disappointed by the food but the service as well. I all but got scolded for trying to order a frappe and was told what do you think this is it's a restaurant when in all due respect almost every Greek restaurant has it on the menu. Ordered a Greek salad which was tiny, soggy and brown. Also ordered yemista which I order all over town and always comes with lemon potatoes. It was just the pepper and one smooshed tomato. Completely disappointed from start to finish and with all the Greek competition will be taking my business else where. read more

Best Greek we've had. You can't go wrong with this choice. Grilled Octopus is a must. Sliced lamb was juicy and the perfect comfort food for a rainy night. Lamb chops cooked perfectly. I don't leave reviews but this spot deserves it. I have been coming here for a while and every time the food was good..nothing too memorable. But the last few times, they have stepped their game up 100%. The lemon potatoes are juicy and soft now when they used to be dry. They're delicious. The fish is grilled excellent. Whoever is back in their kitchen knows what they're doing. On a Saturday for lunch, it gets crowded but even if your order isn't taken right away, you don't wait too long for your food so just have patience. It's worth it! read more

Supremely overated! When I went here, I had ordered the swordfish, which is usually my favorite fish. The interior is nothing to write home about-- white tables, cheesy greek paintings, and whatnot. After waiting for upwards of an hour for our food, I expected everything to be delicious. My boyfriend's red snapper was better than mine, but my swordfish was WAY too overcooked and was barely edible. The waiters were standoffish and unhelpful. Hands down Bahari is currently the best Greek restaurant in Astoria. As far as Greek goes it is not just for fish. You can enjoy the entire spectrum of Greek cuisine at its finest. The house wine is amazing and the hostess and staff are the friendliest. read more

I was very disappointed by this place! I took my parents here, being that I love Greek food and wanted to them to try it. First, the drinks we ordered took longer than usual, which I found strange. Then we finally ordered our food; this is where it got ridiculous. We waited almost 1.5 hours for our food! The waitress just told us multiple times that our food is coming, and when we finally got it, they did not even bring the right side from my dad's order! And my order was simply forgotten about! I requested to speak to a manager was rude and dismissive. After a three hour ordeal I left with disappointment. This place is amazing!!! I have been here once a few years ago and don't know why I haven't been around in a while. It's hard to notice even though it's on a main road, you wouldn't think to go there since there's so many restaurants in the area. Tonight I had the chicken souvlaki platter which comes in chunks with a few slices of peppers and onions for flavor. Also comes with a side of rice or potatoes. Prices are actually reasonable as well. At the end my dinner I got dessert on the house which was absolutely delish. Can't wait to come back soon. read more

Coming for a Greek I can tell you their food is amazing, simple and traditional. The prices are super cheap too compared to the same quality food elsewhere. We paid $36 for 2 people and were fully satisfied and even had some left over. Excellent service too. read more
