Its been a while since my wife and I went to Bahari ( it was know back then as Stamatis)... although we did not order a lot of food...however, whatever we ordered was absolutely delicious.. we started with the traditional avgolemono soup....simply perfect....the eggplant salad also know as babaganoush was probably the best I've eve had ( I highly recommended it to anyone who goes there frankly I could have ordered 3 more portions LOL ) the grill shrimps were BBQ and marinated to perfection...the lemon potatoes were out of this world... the stewed bamia ( okra) was marvelous.. frankly I cannot wait to go back there again and take some friends with me this time. read more

Worst customer service. Don't go here. The customer service from the older guy with the grey hair and pony tail was so horrible that I had to write a bad review. I went in to sit down after waiting 25 minutes and order 2 appetizers instead of a meal. The old man with the grey hair and pony tail said" That's it? Your not ordering a main course. Only appetizers? And came back 5 minutes later and said? No meal only appetizers? And shook his head and complained to the other servers in front of me. It just so happens that I ordered grilled octopus at $17.00 and a mixed spread at $11.00. I guess that wasn't a large enough bill for his liking and I even gave him a 21% tip. And...he opened the bill infront of me and put his pointing finger on the bill to see the tip and said. Hmmmm...ok...have a good night like he was expecting a 40% tip on a $28 mea. This guy was a real low class character. He made me and my girlfriend feel so uncomfoetqble for not ordering a meal. Good food that makes you feel like great after eating it. I kept it simple despite for a quite complex place. Staff is friendly. It's o'right. Since I was there For a bridal shower and not for the main dinning area , I'll review the set menu and space designated for this special occasion , a bridal shower. As long as you have the right amount of people that the space allows it is cozy and intimate. Once you add an extra person this space becomes crowed an uncomfortable. The appetizers set to each table was authentic greek and tasted like real greek. The spreads were especially fresh and authentic. The entree choices allowed for all food preferences including for me, a vegetarian. Although I could not taste entree being s vegetarian the overall response for the table was that the food was well cooked, tasting, and pretty authentic. As I looked around to the main dinning area , I could see that the place was pretty packed. I also noted that it was loud and the tables were so close to each other that it didn't seem that this place would be a place for an intimate dinner. . read more

Delicious!! We loved the ambiance of this little place. We went on a Wednesday and the place wasn't crowded, but the poor waiter was basically working by himself to serve 20 tables. We got the calamari which was very very tasty, the greek lasagna which was OK, and the best tzaziki sauce we've ever had in our lives!! i want to drown myself in that tzaziki sauce. Utterly delicious. The dips platter--Mmmm! Beet salad was plain, very greek, and so yummy. I had quail which was just good, with potatoes and zucchini--which were insanely good. And very good wine. Came here with a friend the other day. We had a light dinner and a good time. We did not have to wait for a long time. Everything seemed to be organized and the place looked very clean and cozy. We had a variety of dishes and all of them were well cooked and served. We enjoyed our meal and had some coffee too. The waiters were very pleasant and made jokes in a fun way all the time to make the atmosphere even more pleasant. The prices were very reasonable and the portions of the plates were very big, without that being a bad factor for the quality. Overall very pleased and my recommendation to anyone that happens to be in the area and wants to have a greek, mediterranean or american food. read more

I was pretty disappointed in my visit. Our bread was stale and cold. Our chicken breast over cooked and the lemon potatoes were dry and old. The baby lamb was good but not worth $29 for 4 small pieces. 5 stars for food; -1 star for the shockingly rude and unprofessional owner & manager. I would like to be clear that our server was very kind. My husband and I picked this restaurant at the recommendation of some friends from Greece to celebrate our birthdays with our parents and a few other relatives. We had a reservation for a party of 8 at 4 pm on a Sunday. When we arrived, the present party was unhappy with the table setting--a table for 8, but with two people squeezed at the ends. Under different circumstances this arrangement would have been fine, but it would've been a tight squeeze with our party, and there were so many empty tables given the time of day. We asked if we could move. The manager came out and proceeded to talk *at* me: "What's the problem, this is a table for 8!?" I explained that our party would not fit comfortably, and after several minutes of deliberation with I can only imagine the owner, he begrudgingly moved us to the "party" room. The other half of the party was 30 minutes late, so that fault is on us, but we had already started to order wine and appetizers, when this time the owner comes out and stares at us, and literally scolds me, "Where's the rest of your party? I agreed to the move because you started at 4, but we have a table of 10 coming in at 6." I just stared at her, shocked by her directness. Yes, my family should've been on time, that fault was on us, but they were stuck in unanticipated traffic. As someone who used to serve tables in college, I would never have treated my customers in the manner that the owner and manager did even under these circumstances. Our server was clearly upset and explained to her that we were already eating, but my husband was so upset that he lost his appetite for the main course, on his birthday. I am shocked that this restaurant has managed to do so well with such terrible people skills among the management. I understand that restaurants conduct business, and changes in plans inadvertently affect said business; but as someone who's labored through the difficulties of the service industry, the manner in which we were treated was deplorable. Thanks for a memorable birthday. Edit: After reading some other 1/2-star reviews, I see other people have been treated poorly by the owners/managers when coming here in large groups, i.e., being pressured to accept unacceptably small tables or being pressured to finish the meal quickly. From start to finish perfect every time. First the food! Always amazing! This fish is spot on, but Greek Style, so be sure you know what you are ordering before they plunk a whole fish on your plate that stares up at you. Drinks are limited, Greek wine (not my favorite) and canned soda. Chicken, fish and calamari are spot on. We get a mixed greek salad to split (the portions are big) and one or two entrees and we are set. After the meal, they bring you a complementary custard cake with delicious honey hominy stuff. I don't know the greek word, but I am sure it translates into "Super Yummy". Bill is almost always under $50 with tip. Some seafood can be priced in the $20's, but that is kind of standard, even in Astoria. The decor is cool, minimalistic and pretty clean. The bathrooms could use a better looking after, but are fine most times. They put paper place mats on the tables making it big casual, but overall its a great place to get together with a group or a semi-casual date. read more

We came here for the second time and really enjoyed our dinner. We had the geek salad and saganaki as appetizers and then we shared the pork souvlaki and pistachio and the mousaka between the three of us. We ordered the spinach and orzo and the okra as sides. They were fair. I would much rather have spinach sautéed with garlic rather than with orzo but they don't do that. Our server was nice and we enjoyed the place both times we were here. While visiting a friend in Astoria, I was in the mood for stuffed grape leaves (one of my favorite dishes), and decided to give Bahari a chance after a quick scan of the menu they had posted outside. Once inside, I felt like I was back at a seaside patio restaurant in Mykonos! The decor and food is truly authentic Greek. I opted for two half orders of side dishes--peas and artichoke with lemon sauce, and a spinach rice pilaf. Both were good and left me satisfied. The female server was very sweet and gave me some suggestions when I told her I didn't eat meat or dairy. At the end of my meal, she gave me a slice of halaba (semolina flour dessert) on the house! The check came out to only $11; such a steal. I never did get the grape leaves I wanted (Bahari doesn't make them), but I will definitely be back and will be bringing friends. read more

I went there several times since the time their name was different and before they did renovation. Their food was really good before they change name and haven't changed at all. After the renovation, the ambience got even better and pleasant. This place is good for group. Their seafood is very fresh. As a side, lemon potato is delicious. When I take my friend here who is not familiar with Greek food, I order dandelion for a side dish because eating dandelion is unfamiliar as a food for most of my friends. The dandelion leaves are biled. I like eating it with salt and olive oil. They have olive oil and vinegar on the table in addition to salt and pepper. If you ask, they bring lemon, too. I uaually avoid ordering precooked and heated food because sometimes the food has been sitting on heated pan for a while and overcooked. For example, stuffed green pepper was too soft when I ordered. Although the stuffed green pepper tasted good, I didn't like the texture of overcooked pepper. Other than precooked food, everything is good in this restaurant. read more

Recently stopped by this fine establishment for dinner. I would of given it a 4 star rating but they ran out of the baby shark that I had originally ordered. The substitute was quite good although there were too many bones to pick but nonetheless, very tasty. We started off with the eggplant dip and a tray of the fried eggplant and zuchinni. DISGUSTING PLACE. Hair in my food, dead roach in the bathroom. Noticed chefs do not wear sanitary gloves when dealing with food. Opened up salt shaker to notice mold growing on lid. Not to mention the lack of attention the wait staff possesses to the needs of groups dining with them. On top of lack of interest from the owners who hold themselves in such a high regard you would think they were Owners of a Michelin star rated restaurant. this is a restaurant you will miss if you dont pay attention or you'll think it's a hole in the wall. But once you enter, the decor is amazing and much bigger than it appears from the outside. The food is delicious. I really enjoyed the hole atmosphere. My friend ordered the fish of the day and it was so soft, melted in your mouth. YUMS. I got the lasagna and it was scrumptious. Disclaimer - I am entirely unfamiliar with the Queens Greek restaurant scene. We stumbled onto this place looking for a quiet lunch. The spanakopita was really wonderful. The dandelion greens were so terrible as to be not actually edible. We also had a bean dish that was quite average. The BEST grilled fish restaurant! I went there once with my husband and 2 times with 2 friends. The grilled fish is just amazing!!! They gave you a whole fish. It goes so well with the olive oil. PAPOUT SAKI is my favourite! The service is also very good! The waiters and pretty much everyone works there are very friendly. The only thing I don't quite like is their selection for the sides. It was plenty of food for two at a very reasonable price. Pretty good Greek cuisine in the heart of Greek Astoria. The super no-frills waitress was kind of the best - "You ready to order? Take that wine, it's good. Oh you want squid? You know eh? My favorite." So we got the spinach pie, mixed cold dips/ warm pita, grilled octopus and sepia salad for starters, and they were all pretty good. Mind you I wasn't exactly blown to high heaven, but pretty happy still. Then the fish entrees: I had a humongous swordfish steak and my girlfriend sea bass - both grilled with simple oil and lemon dressing. The fish was good but a little too oily in a not very Mediterranean way - instead of having a gentle touch of EVOO it was a bit soaked in cheap oil. That was fixed with copious amounts of lemon, but not ideal. So overall pretty good - and very cheap - but can do better. read more

I have walked past this place this spot a million times. Every time I do I see the beautiful fresh fish in the window and say "why have I never eaten here!" Tonight we finally walked into Bahari, and boy was it worth the wait! This place was buzzing, with customers and with the fast paced, well oiled machine that was their waitstaff. We were seated within 20 minutes (not bad for a Saturday night) and were promptly greeted by our wonderful waitress who was warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is full of so many delights it's almost overwhelming! We decided on a small carafe of the house red wine (such a great deal and a delightfully delicious house red for the price!) We ordered the Saganaki, a pan fried cheese, for an appetizer, one of my favorite Greek treats. This was far and away the BEST saganaki I have had, quite possibly ever. Paired with a squeeze of lemon, the flavors were absolute perfection. For our entree, my boyfriend had the PAPOUTSAKI, eggplant stuffed with ground beef and topped with béchamel. The flavors were spot on, and so beautifully combined, the béchamel really made the dish special. I had the ARNI KOKKINISTO, baby lamb loins in a tomato sauce. Let me tell you, I'm pretty sure this sweet baby lamb had been slow cooking for a week because it just fell off the bone the second my fork touched the tender meat. The sauce didn't overpower the meat and added the perfect acidity. We shared sides of lemon potatoes and rice pilaf. Can I just say, the best thing about Greek food (there are so many things) but seriously, it's the lemon potatoes. Dammit, they are so good! They were tender, flavorful and perfect, just like the rest of our meal. I couldn't have eaten another bite, but they cleared our plated and brought over a small, sweet dessert of a filo type pastry that really topped off the meal. We were so pleased (and SO full) with our meal, and were even more so when we got our bill! We couldn't believe how affordable it was. This place is such a deal for the quality of food and service you get. I can't say enough good things about this place. We will be back... we will bring friends... and we WILL eat more Saganaki. I'm looking forward to sampling the amazing greek salad I saw being carried to tables with giant hunks of fresh feta... wowza. This is by far my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in Queens. Generous portions, quality meats, large vegetable fish selection, and moderate prices make this a very healthy, filling, and affordable dining out experience. Everything from the quality of the table olive oil to the service is exceptional and the waiter even took time out to explain to us how to pick quality olive oil at the nearby Euro Market. The food is perfectly cooked and seasoned and a medium salad is big enough to feed two! The complimentary desserts are also quite generous and comes with two different varieties.
