We love this place every time we go. The pastisio isn't as good as my friends, but I could just be used to hers. (I swear, it tastes like Christmas!) Everything else is delicious. Well, the food is fine, if you can get a waiter that wants to take your order and is at least semi-courteous. However, last night the waiter, as he rushed to put plates down while also serving wine, knocked his elbow into a glass into my father's mouth - it chipped his tooth! Among the best dining in all of New York. I love how they prepare the whole fish. It's perfect for sharing and always fresh. I like the artichoke and peas side. Great for a date or for the entire family. Perfect for sharing. if you are divided on what to start with, try the appetizer platter, aka Krya Pikilia platter. the small size is perfect for up to 3-4 people. We were wandering around the streets of Astoria when we stumbled on to this place. This review is based on my single visit. It looks like it is a small restaurant from the outside, but I was very surprised by the space that they had once you go in, they even have an extended area in the rear. I read the other reviews and ordered the octopus. Compared to the price, the portion seemed a bit small, but I really enjoyed it. The octopus appeared to be char grilled, it was juicy and tender. I thought it was worth the money. I think we also had the salad, which had good amount of olives and cheese and it was decent. From what I can remember, I had a steak dish, which I also enjoyed. We had a sweet lady who waited our table, and as far as I can say the entire visit was pleasant and the food was pretty good. I would certain return to this place and venture other sea food dishes as it seems like the seafood dishes are their main thing. If you are in the area and want some decent sea food, I think this place is worth a shot. read more

Yes, the decor is plain. But Oktapodi Scharas (charcoal grilled octopus) is phenomenal. A platter of traditional Greek appetizers is plentiful to share between 2-3 people. I visit this place quite often. Their fish and lamb is delicious! The fact that they give some free dessert at the end is a bonus. I typically order their griled octopus as an appetizer, which is really good with some lemon on it. I do like their plate of cold appetizer spread as well. Let me start off by saying there are A LOT of Greek places in Astoria. That said, this is one of the better (if not more expensive) ones. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated, but suffers from a bit of a fishy smell throughout because of the closeness and openness of the kitchen. I got some pork souvlaki and my lady got the fried squid. They were cooked to perfection, but the service was really poor. We got a hummus sampler, but the chips (while delicious) came out after the hummus (whaaa?). The only other weird thing was the bathroom looked like a scene from Saw. LOVE THIS PLACE. I especially love the prasini salad, bifteka, okra, mixed vegetables - everything!! I got the shrimp once and thought it was kinda bland though. Believe it or not this joint has slowly become our favorite Greek food spot in Astoria. Don't have to wait around forever like the over hyped Kyklades. More consistent good quality and service than Agnanti. Way tastier than Alliada. We used to really like Gregory's tavern but upon last visit when we were met by a C rating on the window we turned around and decided to go back when they got their act together Anyway back to the artist formerly known as Stamatis. Bahari is a straight forward, cozy, relaxing yet semi intense fun place to have a weekend dinner. The food is always really good ( sometimes great) and the service is friendly, fast and professional. I've tried about a dozen different dishes here and have never been let down. My favorites are the lamb sliced thin and the roasted chicken, and the octopus, and the chicken souvlaki, and....you get the picture. The wife and I also always split a half carafe of house red which works out super convenient. Place gets crowded with a diverse, noisy clientele so if you're looking for a romantic 3rd date spot this might not be the perfect fit. Just about any other scenario is a go though, we take our parents here, friends, even peeps visiting from out of town. Just a solid, happy, cozy place to have a great meal, some wine and some laughs. Best Greek Restaurant in Astoria. Used to think it was Taverna, but Bahari is way better. Everything is unbelievably fresh. Ate at the restaurant a couple weeks ago and got delivery last night. Branzini is unreal - grilled to perfection, so soft and juicy. Greek salad had the freshest tomatoes. Feta is creamy and perfect. Octopus is so tender - not tough or chewy at all. Tzatziki is delicious. Lemon potatoes. Everything i've had on the menu here is to die for. I look forward to trying their lamb chops. My one (minor) complaint was that when I ate in the restaurant, the A/C could have been a little cooler...but it wasn't terrible. This place is a must-try if you haven't done so already. read more

HORRIBLE management, amazing food. We made a reservation hoping to celebrate our anniversary and we're left waiting 45 minutes on a Saturday night, which defeats the purpose of making a reservation. We noticed that priority was given to large walk-in groups of more than 5 people who did not have a reservation and arrived after us, and we pointed it out to the hostess. The manager came up with the excuse saying that "once she sat people down, she did not know how long it was going to take them to eat". Based on my experience in restaurant management, the average table takes 1.5-2.5 hours to eat. The manager was clearly giving us a poor excuse in an attempt to give us a "run a round". But if you're honoring your clients, their time, and the reservation system- as a restauranteur you plan seating ahead with your incoming reservations in mind and don't accept a large party just because you're assured a $500 sale from a large walk-in group, versus smaller sale from a couple who took the time to make a reservation. No apology or consideration was given. I would recommend this place on a weekday to try their fresh and amazing seafood, but don't plan on celebrating your special occasion on a weekend even if you have a reservation. Their food is amazing, (my compliments to the kitchen) but it does not entitle management to treat customers and their time without any regard.
