Among the best dining in all of New York. I love how they prepare the whole fish. It's perfect for sharing and always fresh. I like the artichoke and peas side. Great for a date or for the entire family. Perfect for sharing. if you are divided on what to start with, try the appetizer platter, aka Krya Pikilia platter. the small size is perfect for up to 3-4 people. Greek (don't dare call it Turkish) coffee was fabulous. I also appreciate the complimentary desserts, so delicious and perfect to end the experience. the only thing that could have improved was the customer service. Being outsiders, it would have been nice to be welcomed a little more. But again, they are authentic and Greeks can be aloof to non-greeks. anyway, we loved the experience and food, and the kids loved the food too! The best Greek food within a 20 block radius of my very Greek neighborhood. The branzino is the best. I always order the prasini salad as well. We were wandering around the streets of Astoria when we stumbled on to this place. This review is based on my single visit. It looks like it is a small restaurant from the outside, but I was very surprised by the space that they had once you go in, they even have an extended area in the rear. I read the other reviews and ordered the octopus. Compared to the price, the portion seemed a bit small, but I really enjoyed it. The octopus appeared to be char grilled, it was juicy and tender. I thought it was worth the money. I think we also had the salad, which had good amount of olives and cheese and it was decent. From what I can remember, I had a steak dish, which I also enjoyed. We had a sweet lady who waited our table, and as far as I can say the entire visit was pleasant and the food was pretty good. I would certain return to this place and venture other sea food dishes as it seems like the seafood dishes are their main thing. If you are in the area and want some decent sea food, I think this place is worth a shot. read more

We came here for the second time and really enjoyed our dinner. We had the geek salad and saganaki as appetizers and then we shared the pork souvlaki and pistachio and the mousaka between the three of us. We ordered the spinach and orzo and the okra as sides. They were fair. I would much rather have spinach sautéed with garlic rather than with orzo but they don't do that. Our server was nice and we enjoyed the place both times we were here. DISGUSTING PLACE. Hair in my food, dead roach in the bathroom. Noticed chefs do not wear sanitary gloves when dealing with food. Opened up salt shaker to notice mold growing on lid. Not to mention the lack of attention the wait staff possesses to the needs of groups dining with them. On top of lack of interest from the owners who hold themselves in such a high regard you would think they were Owners of a Michelin star rated restaurant. Yes, the decor is plain. But Oktapodi Scharas (charcoal grilled octopus) is phenomenal. A platter of traditional Greek appetizers is plentiful to share between 2-3 people. I visit this place quite often. Their fish and lamb is delicious! The fact that they give some free dessert at the end is a bonus. I typically order their griled octopus as an appetizer, which is really good with some lemon on it. I do like their plate of cold appetizer spread as well. It's just that with so many appetizers and entree and a free dessert, it can become too much! Branzino for $28 I think is absurd., doesn't take a lot to broil it, probably because we prefer it deboned, that justifies it probably. Let me start off by saying there are A LOT of Greek places in Astoria. That said, this is one of the better (if not more expensive) ones. The restaurant itself is very nicely decorated, but suffers from a bit of a fishy smell throughout because of the closeness and openness of the kitchen. I got some pork souvlaki and my lady got the fried squid. They were cooked to perfection, but the service was really poor. We got a hummus sampler, but the chips (while delicious) came out after the hummus (whaaa?). The only other weird thing was the bathroom looked like a scene from Saw. Overall the food was a strong B+/A-, but the intangibles were very sub par. I doubt we'll return. read more

LOVE THIS PLACE. I especially love the prasini salad, bifteka, okra, mixed vegetables - everything!! I got the shrimp once and thought it was kinda bland though. But still, the bifteka + okra is probably my FAVORITE food to order in ALL of Astoria. I order delivery often. Believe it or not this joint has slowly become our favorite Greek food spot in Astoria. Don't have to wait around forever like the over hyped Kyklades. More consistent good quality and service than Agnanti. Way tastier than Alliada. We used to really like Gregory's tavern but upon last visit when we were met by a C rating on the window we turned around and decided to go back when they got their act together Anyway back to the artist formerly known as Stamatis. Bahari is a straight forward, cozy, relaxing yet semi intense fun place to have a weekend dinner. The food is always really good ( sometimes great) and the service is friendly, fast and professional. I've tried about a dozen different dishes here and have never been let down. My favorites are the lamb sliced thin and the roasted chicken, and the octopus, and the chicken souvlaki, and....you get the picture. The wife and I also always split a half carafe of house red which works out super convenient. Place gets crowded with a diverse, noisy clientele so if you're looking for a romantic 3rd date spot this might not be the perfect fit. Just about any other scenario is a go though, we take our parents here, friends, even peeps visiting from out of town. Just a solid, happy, cozy place to have a great meal, some wine and some laughs. Well, the food is fine, if you can get a waiter that wants to take your order and is at least semi-courteous. However, last night the waiter, as he rushed to put plates down while also serving wine, knocked his elbow into a glass into my father's mouth - it chipped his tooth! While he did apologize, of course, that was it! Nothing off our bill - even though the incident caused a whole glass of wine to spill. The staff were just not polite and offered no kind of care. I live a few blocks away and it's the only restaurant in New York City where the staff knows me AND my parents (who visit a couple of times a year). Everyone is delightful. And the food is delicious. Get a carafe of the house red wine and basically anything on the menu, and you're in for a good night. I especially love the grilled squid. The Greek staples like moussaka and pastitsio are also right on. I especially love Bahari because everyone fits in. There are crying babies, couples on dates, big family dinners, hipsters, old Greek ladies, and everyone in between. That is the beauty of New York, but it's quite hard to find a restaurant in the city that truly makes everyone feel comfortable. Don't let the front window deceive you. I was introduced to Bahari by my cousin and it has become my favorite Greek restaurant in Astoria. Everything I have tried is extremely tasty. I especially love the pork souvlaki platter. The spinach pie is also excellent. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because sometimes the service is off.
