We were recommended this restaurant for my 40th birthday. Booking was for 730pm and I went in whilst my husband parked the car. The lady at the front ignored me for a good 3 to 4 minutes, so I asked one of the servers who then pointed to her and she told me she would be a sec. A sat and waited for 10 minutes because the phone was more important to her. Finally when they were ready they said they wouldn't seat me until my husband arrived so I had to wait even longer. He arrived and stood in line waiting by this time I had had enough and stormed out. They stopped me apologized and seated us. So then it came time to order and first course was no problem. When it came to the entree for me I had to have 5 goes at ordering as everything I ordered they had run out of. In the end at least 70% of the menu was not available. I ended up having grilled chicken which as a bodybuilder I eat every single day. It was a very disappointing evening for my birthday. I most certainly will not be back and I would not recommend to anyone either. read more

We had our first visit here the other day and will definitely be back. I see uneven reviews and it looks like the complaints often have to do with poor service during crowded times. Well, the good news is it gets crowded here because the food is delicious! So my suggestion is come off peak if you can. We were here for a late lunch (were originally heading to Uncle George's down the block only to discover it has closed permanently, so time for a new favorite Greek restaurant...this is it!) Food suggestion: you must get the Lemon Potatoes. Everything else was excellent and we'll try other things next time but always, always get the Potatoes. read more

We have had better Greek food in Chicago and this place was supposed to be the coup de gras. My husband ordered off the menu and was told separate times that what he wanted was not available. This is my go-to spot with my boyfriend for date night. The food here is really good, the decor is unique in that it isn't overly tacky Greek, there is a great deal of charm with a touch trendiness, the only thing that I don't really like is that it's a little bright. In addition to the food and ambiance, the thing that sets Bahari apart from other Greek restaurants in Astoria is the service, they actually have servers who understand that it's their job to serve. The Greek food was superb! We ordered the grilled Branzini (European seabass) and it was perfectly grilled in olive oil highly recommended. The Greek salad was also a good appetizer for the table. The only recommendation I have is that the lemon potatoes should have been in a lemon sauce they were a bit dry. The portions are big and my husband and I shared the fish and it was sufficient. The staff is very friendly and service was prompt despite the busy time we dined. We will definitely return and recommend. read more

I come here all the time with my family. The grilled octopus is amazing. I like the greek salad, the small dips platter, the greek burgers etc. (The eggplant dip is so good) Recently tried the grilled calamari, and that was so tender and tasty. The owner is so lovely. They have the worst service. There is one waiter for such a large space. He looks overwhelmed and out of breath. The guy is literally running from table to table smh. Best Greek Restaurant in Astoria. Used to think it was Taverna, but Bahari is way better. Everything is unbelievably fresh. Ate at the restaurant a couple weeks ago and got delivery last night. Branzini is unreal - grilled to perfection, so soft and juicy. Greek salad had the freshest tomatoes. Feta is creamy and perfect. Octopus is so tender - not tough or chewy at all. Tzatziki is delicious. Lemon potatoes. Everything i've had on the menu here is to die for. I look forward to trying their lamb chops. My one (minor) complaint was that when I ate in the restaurant, the A/C could have been a little cooler...but it wasn't terrible. This place is a must-try if you haven't done so already. read more

HORRIBLE management, amazing food. We made a reservation hoping to celebrate our anniversary and we're left waiting 45 minutes on a Saturday night, which defeats the purpose of making a reservation. We noticed that priority was given to large walk-in groups of more than 5 people who did not have a reservation and arrived after us, and we pointed it out to the hostess. The manager came up with the excuse saying that "once she sat people down, she did not know how long it was going to take them to eat". Based on my experience in restaurant management, the average table takes 1.5-2.5 hours to eat. The manager was clearly giving us a poor excuse in an attempt to give us a "run a round". But if you're honoring your clients, their time, and the reservation system- as a restauranteur you plan seating ahead with your incoming reservations in mind and don't accept a large party just because you're assured a $500 sale from a large walk-in group, versus smaller sale from a couple who took the time to make a reservation. No apology or consideration was given. I would recommend this place on a weekday to try their fresh and amazing seafood, but don't plan on celebrating your special occasion on a weekend even if you have a reservation. Their food is amazing, (my compliments to the kitchen) but it does not entitle management to treat customers and their time without any regard. Went for 1st time with family... we'll definitely be back. Overall food was very tasty, especially the grilled calamari. Did not love the fried saganaki cheese as it was too heavily battered. Main courses were all delicious, a few of us took leftovers home. The daily special of lamb fricasse was also enjoyed by 2 people in our party. I've had a hard time finding good, reasonably priced Greek food in Los Angeles, but no such problem in Queens! Bahari was very good. We started off with the grilled calamari (kalamarakia scharas) and the small assortment of spreads (krya pikilia), which were both excellent. Ask for a couple of pitas to go with the spreads or you'll only get bread. The pan fried whiting was a huge plate of fish for the price, and the roast lamb was very tasty. Service, especially trying to get the check, was a little slow, but it's nice to not feel rushed. The food is homey, simply fresh and delicious!!!! The grilled Octopus and the Bistekia with the house sauce are out of this world! The atmosphere is great, very alive, mixed between singles, couples and big families. Never fails that everytime I go here I have the most amazing salad and chicken for $7.50 The chicken is very moist and delicous. I also enjoy their Salmon with Potatoes and Peas its also on the lunch specal $12. I go at least once a week the staff is so friendly. They make me feel apart of the family. If you take Stamatis and remove the refried oil, severely overweight customers and hairy middle-aged Greek man sweat from the cooking you get Bahari. It's definitely refined, maybe too refined for how I like my Greek food. Though the highlights were the avgolemono soup and the calf liver (absolutely delicious) the octopus and calamari were sub-par - nothing to go on about. For me Greek cuisine is perhaps one of the best best in the world and I expect really high standards from Greek restaurants in terms of taste. The service was great, an elderly Greek yiayia helped us with the dishes and kept us smiling from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. We went to this restaurant upon the recommendation of a good friend, and it did not disappoint. I love their spanakopita and the octopus. My husband likes his salad, although found it to be a bit bland and basic. Next time he said he will try the other kinds on the menu. As for the fish he ordered, he gushed about it and loved it. Our experience at Bahari was disappointing. We arrived for our reservation (which I made 4 days prior) to Find that they put us in for the following Saturday. The girls were so unapologetic and unaccommodating we waited for one hour to be seated. I mean, maybe offer a drink or at least some water to a party of six (with 3 pregnant women? ). When we were finally seated, we received one glass of water throughout our entire meal, drinks, appetizers and salads we had ordered were forgotten, no offer of coffee or dessert, just a check thrown on to our table. When we asked staff for our missing food or drinks, they each mumbled something and pointed to the front... The bathrooms were horrendous, littered with paper, dirty seat, overflowing garbage can. The food was good. I'd give it a 3/5 but the service was so terrible and cranky that I will probably not go back. A huge disappointment since we invited friends for dinner from out of state. read more

I can't get enough of this place! The BEST grilled Bronzino you can find-it's fresh and succulent, flavorful and perfectly grilled every time. I love it with some fresh olive oil and lemons which they give you a big plate of. The octopus is tender and simply delicious, as well as the lemon potatoes and green beans. I'm not usually into softer veggies but these have soo much flavor! This is a regular weekly spot for me and my boyfriend and we always look forward to our meal, that includes the friendly staff and chefs. The owner is a sweet heart so say hi. :) read more

We were in the neighborhood and were hungry. we just wandered in knowing nothing about this place. I have eaten lots of Greek food in my life, but this place is really special. I ordered the peas with artichokes. This dish elevated peas into something extraordinary. I also had the broiled Kefalogravia cheese. Sooo good.
