I ordered the peas with artichokes. This dish elevated peas into something extraordinary. I also had the broiled Kefalogravia cheese. Sooo good. When I crave Greek, and I mean GREAT GREEK, I go to Bahari! I love the stuffed cabbage, the meatballs, the fresh Greek Salads and the Lamb Chops! After spending two weeks in Argentina, my girlfriend had developed a strong craving for Greek food. We decided to try somewhere new, and settled on Bahari. We had been threatening to eat here for a while, but the brightness of the premises had put me off. I'm pleased to say I was wrong, and the decor was not at all offensive. The food was excellent. We started off with a Greek salad, and a variety of dips with pita. While these are simple appetizers, the cognicente of Greek cuisine know well they can at times be underwhelming. The salad was in the genuine Greek style, that is, no lettuce. We enjoy several Greek restaurants around Astoria regularly, and are always mildly annoyed with the Americanized Greek salad. For our entrees, we ordered pastitsio and pork souvlaki. The pork souvlaki was the perfect blend of suculance and char. With a squeeze of lemon over it was truly delicious. The pastitsio was tasty, and very well put together. It is an entree that can be on the oily side, and I am pleased to report this was not the case. One thing to note: the portions are large. We ended up taking quite a bit of food home. The leftovers were delicious. read more

First off, hostess tried to squeeze us into a tiny crowded space when there was plenty of space in the next room and there were no crowds. The appetizer sampler portions were tiny. Literally a spoonful of each! Nearly all the seafood was "market price". Why not just set a price? I had grilled squid, which was tender, well-cooked, but overly salty, as was the rest of the food. My lunch companion had battered cod, which was extremely salty, which made us think it was salt cod, not fresh. We were drinking water like fiends because of the over-saltiness of everything, but our water glasses were not replenished until we asked. Not the worst I'd ever had, but I wouldn't go back. While I appreciate the response, I would first suggest addressing the salt/sodium content overall, and if salt cod was in fact used, as opposed to fresh, please specify so that diners can make an informed decision. I used to live a few blocks away from here and I really miss it! Such fresh, delicious seafood, amazing service, and low prices. My favorite dishes are the grilled squid, okra, and spinach rice. The hot pita is also amazing! It's quite a big restaurant and accommodates large groups well; the back room frequently hosts parties. If you don't live in Astoria, this is well-worth the trip. If you do, then you're very lucky to have Bahari Estitario nearby. read more

Anyway if you're looking for a really, really good Greek restaurant (who isn't) this is THE PLACE. As mentioned by other posters it has changed its name, and ownership and gotten a nice facelift (renovation). And the food has gotten even better. Everything from the appetizer, to entrée, to desserts is well done, as is the great service. Start off with the combination appetizer plate or order your Taramosalata, Tzatziki, and Skordalia separately. The baby lamp chops, the grilled snapper, squid, or octopus are all winners. Go for some of the traditional dishes like the Mousakas, grilled lamb, okra in tomato sauce, and lemon potatoes, wash it all down with a bottle, or carafe of wine. Then if you can still eat on to the Greek coffee, and desert. I've had my fair share of falafels and chicken souvlaki platters in Hawaii. One can say my Greek food knowledge is limited at best. Upon moving to Astoria, I made it my mission to find authentic Greek cuisine. Luckily enough I didn't need to venture too far. Just a block away, I stumbled upon the gem that is Bahari. First of all, the ambiance is very welcoming and familial. It's a super cute place to have dinner with friends. Our waiter brought us out a few red wines to taste. The STAPHYLUS wine was our hands down favorite - 70% cabernet and 30% organic greek grapes. We enjoyed this wine with the Feta Ceramica appetizer, which was basically a big block of cheese sauteed with roasted tomatoes and peppers. It was scrumptious, a perfect pairing with the wine. For our entrees we had the Arni Psito, a lamb dish, and the Branzino. Branzino was bland, but cooked perfectly. Plus, they give you the whole fish and not just a filet. The lamb was perfect, soaked in a sweet and tangy sauce that I couldn't get enough of. The entrees came with a side of rice and lemon potatoes. Our table didn't care for the lemon potatoes - they were pretty dry, but everything else made up for it. Our waiter then surprised us with complimentary desserts. I wish he gave us the name for these desserts with a brief explanation. It was essentially 2 things: a semolina like cake and a custard cake. Both were delicious! The only thing I think Bahari could improve on is the interaction with the servers and guests. I initially told our server that my party and I have never tried Greek food before, yet he never recommended anything nor took the time to tell us a little bit about the dishes. Just had a great, filling meal here. My bf and I were walking around Astoria and wanted Greek food. I saw the high ratings for this place and understand why. We ordered the large elliniki to share (the feta slices were huge and so fresh), lahanodolmades were light and flavorful with a nice amount of lemon, and pastitsio which was rich and flavorful. The ending complimentary dessert was also good! It was a decent amount of food so we even had some to take home. Great price and service - they sat us in the back room for a more private setting without even asking for it and our server was attentive throughout the meal. Highly recommend! read more

This place is a jewel in Astoria. Every time I visit New York, I find an excuse to drop by and enjoy a wonderfully prepared and cooked dinner (some appetizers, a grilled fish and Assyrtiko, a superb white Santorini wine). If I stayed in Astoria during my visits, I'll there all times. Though primarily they have Greek dishes, they also have steaks, kebabs, etc. Being a glutton and having been to Greece a number of times, I have been unable to shy away from the Greek inspired food, and still have not tried their grilled meats (hopefully one of these times I will). If you are not too familiar with Greek food, just look at the serving dishes loaded with food when you enter the restaurant on the left and point out what you prefer; you can also ask the two graceful ladies who run the restaurant for assistance. read more

It's been my favorite restaurant since before I moved to Astoria. People rave about Kyclades and Telly's Taverna, but Bahari is always the best. Fresh greek food in the Queens Astoria area! I love this restaurant because it is family owned and you feel as if you're at home! The decor is so clean and simple with a romantic ambiance. Service is prompt and kind. The house dessert is amazing and homemade!!!! It is also FREE! I recommend trying the saganaki, the baby shark, the octopus, and the lamb chops (although everything is amazing and yummy!) Dining here is as if you're dining in your family's backyard! Don't get their grilled chicken, meatballs, pork/chicken kebab, or lemon potatoes. I have grown to love Bahari. At first I used to think that it was overpriced and bland but that's because I was getting the wrong things. I still think it's pricey but it's worth it. Dining in is nice because the interior is very beautiful. Only complaint - we've never had a good server. They're slow and forget to bring things you ask for. They're also rude. Family style restaurant with a bit of style. White washed walls with exposed brick. Grilled octopus pretty tasty, and decent portion. Whole dorada also tasty enough, not having had a fresh whole fish for some time, but it tasted "fresh frozen". A tiny bit mushy, meaning not fresh. Grilled lamb chops tasty, as they should be at 4 for $29. But had to have them grilled a little more, as our medium rare chops came bloody to begin with. Side vegetables of okra were disgusting. Reheated canned veges from the Bain Marie. Truly awful, and really let the meal down. Otherwise, good cheerful service, family friendly - our two year old boy loved mixing up a salt&pepper oil&vinegar ice slushy in the ice bowl - and a welcome trip down memory lane, having enjoyed Greek dining whilst living in the Balkans for a few years. Honestly I was really disappointed at the service overall. I went recently and when we ordered, we were told that there was no pita bread left, but later on we saw that the table behind us received some. That was just very upsetting to me since I was lied to. The waiter finally said the the food will be coming soon after 30 minutes passed, but the food didn't come 20 minutes after the waiter notified us. So in total about an hour of wait. I understand that they were busy but we did see that the other customers were served very nicely and on time, so I felt that they should treat all customers equally. The food was really good but the service was terrible. I had a feeling that it may be because we were an Asian family since all the other white or Greek families were treated very nicely. There was also another Asian couple sitting across from my table but their service seemed to be really slow too. They were also waiting a while to get their food. I know it's important to serve your everyday customers but that shouldn't mean that they should take more time on others. I have been here a few times but this has happened to me at least twice (waiting for the food for a while). I hope that there is a way that the service can become a little better, at least on the timing since it was a special day for my family and I really enjoy the food. read more

Definitely a destination spot. I'll be back. Very low key Greek restaurant. Lots of Greek families in for a post church meal. The staff was super nice and attentive. We both had Spinach pie - absolutely delicious. Not geasy but still very flakey. I think we split a salad as well. Total tab w/ tax before tip was $21.25.
