It used to be great place. We was visiting it for over a year.. Sushi is fresh taste good. Today we visited this restaurant in Astoria. And was really disappointed.. first of all it was really hot inside the restaurant. I asked to turn on the conditioning, but there was economizing and refused it. They just opened the door.. also bring out the fan. It was not helpful.. when the waitress brought the food, she spilled the sauce on the table instead of cleaning it up she just covered it with a napkin. When we finish eating, it was a lot of dirty dishes. She didn't pick up.. and brought me a check. I take out the credit card and wanted to pay waitress. Told me if you're going to use. Their lover's boat is generous portion-wise and the rolls were very tasty. The miso soup, sadly, is subpar. Once again I ate my food without taking a photo, I hate it lol. I remember after. Attached is a photo of my order. I got two different rolls. I ordered through Grubhub. I crossed out all the personal info. My first roll was the king crab roll. They were wrapped small so I didn't get a lot of the crab taste from it but I still thought it really good. The roll was shaped nicely and clean. My second roll was the salmon tempura roll and what a mess. The roll was huge and kept falling apart. It's like no effort was made in wrapping it and making it look nice. On the other hand it tasted delicious. Probably wouldn't order this specific roll again, but it tasted good. Pandemic wise, they've been really good with the take out and delivery. The sushi isn't going to impress everyone, but it's the kind of quick meal option that would satisfy folks on the go. They are pretty solid with the party platters, which are plentiful and on point with the presentation. I think I can also get behind their rice-to-fish ratio, where nothing is too heavy and ideal for folks who can eat a lot. (#1) When in doubt, shoot for the sushi boat. For roll lovers, this place really packs on the fish. For me, they seem more plump than the usual takeout sushi spot, which is always a good thing. All the Americanized classics are here: dragon roll, rainbow roll, etc. Their spicy tuna tempura roll is a nice Junko-foody choice and the lover's roll confuses me with the hearts shaped pieces. Where things have been less stellar have been by way of their hot food items and random sushi miscues that happen occasionally. The miso is a bit on the meh-side, the cooked teriyaki salmon was dry and bland, and shumai and gyoza are pretty subpar. I'm not particularly fond of the bento boxes either or the grilled squid, but the beef negimaki takes the cake for them all for lease appealing item.. The people who run the place are nice. Most folks who have only ever ordered delivery might not realize this is actually a pretty solid place to dine in. A dependable option for sushi in the neighborhood, have always enjoyed anything we've gotten from here. The Astoria Roll is a new favorite, as well as the salmon dumplings. Will have the tuna dumplings next. Unique and delicious, it has avocado, scallion and crunch inside and is served with a wasabi vinaigrette sauce (not spicy). The seared tuna salad was an interesting texture bc it's seared, would have enjoyed more if raw, it was made better by the salad and dressing that comes with it. Been trying to find a good local sushi spot and came across this place on Grubhub. Looked promising and prices weren't too crazy. Long story short, the taste is not bad and loved that they used real crab but the size and quantity is so small. It's comparable to a chain supermarket sushi pack just more expensive and less pieces. Not to mention they made one of the sushi's wrong. A bit disappointing. I would try them again though based on the fact that the taste was decent and I didn't get sick the next day. I heard the restaurant was authentic and imported the ingredients from Japan and the owner Junko-San often prepared the meals so I thought I would try the sushi, sashimi, and shrimp tempura. it was perfect! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Ordered sushi from here and there was a fly walking around on top of the sushi while the container was still closed. After seeing the fly. We refused to eat the meal. We Called the restaurant and they said they said they can only refund the sushi not the whole meal. The lady was rude and said you can just eat the miso soup, then hung up didn't even apologize. After seeing the fly we don't trust eating the rest of the meal. This is unsanitary and unacceptable. I've ordered delivery from this place a couple of times. The food is decent, nothing spectacular. The edamame was fresh and the Alaska roll was tasty, but I was disappointed with the calamari and rock shrimp tempura. The fried foods had absolutely no flavor and the texture of the calamari was rubbery. The first time I ordered they forgot to put the sauces in the bag, but today they put in extra (maybe they received complaints from other diners?). The delivery was exceptionally fast and the driver was pleasant. I have never dined in the restaurant, so I can't speak to the ambiance of the place. I might order from them again in the future, but I would steer clear of anything fried and stick to sushi. read more

Well. Here we are. The moment we're all been waiting for. My first Yelp review in a year and a half. So many things have brought me to this moment. I have so many people to thank. There were so many contenders for this exclusive honor of being my first Yelp review after my "hiatus". After careful deliberation...... Junko is the winner. Junko's sushi is made with the fluffiest rice known to man. Their rolls are larger than your typical sushi roll. Everything I've ever had here has been amazing. I consider myself an expert on sweet potato sushi, and Junko does it right. Most places unfortunately use stale, cold sweet potato that you can tell has been sitting on the counter for hours because most people don't tend to order sweet potato sushi... but Junko's is ALWAYS WARM. They have yet to let me down. They also have a lot of other vegetarian options which I always appreciate. I have dined in at Junko, but I usually order take out. The restaurant itself is nice and clean, but it's small and nothing special. What deserves special mention is the fact that whenever I order from Junko, it arrives in an alarmingly quick amount of time. I timed it once and it was 7 minutes. I don't live that close, I'm like two avenues away. It's WITCH CRAFT. In conclusion, Junko is everything I've ever wanted in a sushi restaurant and more. Hot food or sushi related are both great tasting, which sometimes it's a coin toss with other places--either they do one or the other well not both. I like to dine there by myself it's quiet and has such a relaxing vibe to it always. The food is decent. I've had the Chilean sea bass spring roll before and it was great. I've eaten sushi from all over & the quality (freshness) of the fish here is amazing! I got to talk with the manager and she was telling me how everyday they pick out the tuna they'll be using for that day. I love ordering their avocado salad, the dressing is superb! Never thought something as simple as salad dressing could be so delicious. The location is also perfect, one could do their errands and eat great sushi easily. I was surprised that the prices for the food is what it is considering the food is amazing. This is my favorite place to get sushi, I never go anywhere else. This fish has not been handled by a sushi chef who prepares and seasons it before using razor sharp knive to slice it in ways that optimizes flavor and tenderness--this fish is just chopped up into sushi sized pieces, slapped onto some rice and delivered. No flavor at all except for a slight fishiness and metalic flavor from it not being the freshest fish. anyway--yes, eek, methings not ever again. Update--I anticipated a response from the owner/management but really not this quickly. Albeit nice to hear a response, I hope that they simply improve their food with some better quality fish, and maybe find a chef that has some experience. Disgusting food and rude customer service Please avoid this place at all cost! I should have read these negative reviews before ordering from here. I never complain about my food, but this place was by far the worst sushi I have ever had. My sushi came hot, and the fish tasted like they were left in a broken fridge. The rolls were all disassembled and swimming in a watery sauce. The tempura was extremely soggy. I call for a refund and was prompted to retrieve the disgusting food from the trash bin by hand. I then received a rude call from the owner yelling at me for not picking up all the food (at 10PM cleaning a toddler who threw up this food) and refusing any compensation. Please save yourself time and money and order from any other place. Update 1: I did contact Junko first, and I explained that it was already in the tall trash bin outside. Retrieving the food was humiliating. Retreiving the food at 10pm in the dark, and only to get a laugh from you on the phone does not really help the situation. Seamless was kind enough to offer me $15 back. I would not hold my breath for another chance to "service better". Update 2: Yelp deleted this as an updated review, but people should know since it is dangerous. Removed Content: Read a news article and this restaurant had been closed down for health violations. The owner obviously has turns a blind eye to his business and fails to recognize this shortcomings when being called out. Although I don't find myself in Astoria too often, my friend lives here so I turned to him for Sushi recommendations. I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat before a Yelp event and we found ourselves at Junko! Right on the corner along Broadway, it's a place you cannot miss. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura roll and the Philadelphia Roll. They came out fairly quickly but were patient with us since this was a "catching up" kind of dinner. It was pretty empty with the exception of two couples. Overall, my sushi was delicious. The tempura was crunchy and not soggy. And the Philly roll, classic. The inside was clean and they even opened up the doors/windows to let the fresh air in which was nice. And the staff were very friendly.
