Great affordable sushi on the UES, after loosing green kitchen to this corner and having an empty property for at least 4 years, Ikyu took over and made a great work both with their interior design and food quality. This has rapidly become our go to place when craving sushi without breaking the bank, service is a bit pushy and makes you feel rushed, that's the only downsize. Great prices on drinks too, beautiful presentation and overall great experience. Make reservations if you can to secure seating at premium hours, however they also take walk-ins and the wait is nothing crazy.

Must try! Everything we ordered was delicious and fish was very fresh! To start, we ordered the crispy rice which was one of the best I've had in the city and packed with fish on top. Also got the tuna tataki which was tasty, especially the sauce that came underneath it. For rolls, we got the green hulk which was so good as well as rainbow Naruto, yellowtail jalapeño, and spicy scallop. The fish to rice ratio was on point with not too much rice. Everything was packed with flavor and the plating presentation was great! 10/10 recommend

I'm in my takeout era and decided to try this. I wanted to come and do a little solo date here but they said they wouldn't have tables for 30 mins.. ordered takeout instead and was pretty satisfied. Sushi was fresh and tasty. Will definitely be trying to sit down very soon

My new " go-to" for exceptional sushi. Special weekday (M - F) lunch of 3 rolls + appeti,er of miso soup or green salad = $17. Shrimp Tempura Roll is my personal favorite.

So blessed to have Ikyu on 1st. First, the employees- warm, attentive and prompt. The new space is lovely and inviting as well. Then, then there's the food-- YUM! Today was my 3rd time ordering in less than a week... guess I'm hooked! New go-to suishi spot. Consistent and delicious! For sure, 5 stars!

Ikyu Sushi 2 - bad name, good food. The renovation from the old Green Kitchen is spectacular - the new space is sleek, modern, and has a true Japanese feel. Don't be deterred by the name - the food is tasty! I have been to their first location on Second Avenue which is very popular. The hot tea was excellent, and they have a great variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. We ordered the Karage as an appetizer. The chicken pieces were flavorful, and the spicy mayo was a nice complement. For our main courses, we ordered two rolls, and a chicken udon soup. Both were presented beautifully. Both dishes were solid for the price. The better values are their lunch specials on weekdays until 3pm. Overall, a welcome addition to the landscape of the Upper East Side!

Was walking in the area with my mom and passed by on the way to a bakery, but good thing we turned back. One of the staff members opened the door for us. It's wheelchair accessible. Attentive and helpful staff. Great first impression of the place - garden decor, chandeliers/ambient lighting. Got the Creme Anglaise souffle pancakes - with fresh fruits, very light and fluffy, not too sweet. Ice cream sounded simple on the menu - though just a small scoop, it came with red bean paste, fresh fruits so not bad @$6. Rose latte is rosy of course with crushed petals. Liked the food presentation, cute spoons. Will surely return. Restroom available.

The soufflé pancake was unfortunately quite mushy, without much of a bite to it. The salmon was fresh but the cuts were on the thinner side, so it was decent but nothing extraordinary. The aesthetics look nice and welcoming, but the service was more cold and distanced; would definitely improve the mood if the servers were more social and friendly! Our server forgot one of our drinks, and didn't ask if we wanted our lattes sweetened or not, so we asked for simple syrup to sweeten our drinks ourselves. To our surprise, we were charged for simple syrup as shown on the receipt as a custom item...never have I been to any restaurant or cafes where you had to pay to sweeten your own drink. Unfortunately, this cheapened the experience and made it feel like you're being nickeled and dimed by a pretty restaurant. Not sure if this is the restaurant's/owner's rules or just the server being incompetent/not efficiently trained. We dined at 2pm on September 9th, 2026, as to not get other servers in trouble! Overall, Vert Frais definitely has a lot of potential of being an amazing Japanese brunch spot, so I hope this review can help them reach their truest potential! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

The yakitori here is very tasty. We loved the veggie skewers (okra and shishito peppers. The salmon belly is actually just salmon pieces and not the belly party. The enoki beef was little too salty. The squid, beef and scallops were very tasty. The veggies tempura were freshly fried and delicious. Could have been drained a little better. Salmon crispy rice was a hit but the star of the show was the sushi and sashimi deluxe and the blue Toro roll. Amazingly fresh. The passion toro was a little too sweet and fishy for us and had no passion fruit taste. Service here is amazing. Dashi Okume sells ... you guessed it ... dashi. They sell several kinds, and you can taste all of them there in the shop before deciding which to take home with you (I tried them all and went home with one bag of vegetable dashi and one bag of sweet shellfish dashi). They also make custom-made dashi. You can choose from around 30 ingredients - dried fish, seaweed, mushrooms, and vegetables. They grind it up and put into individual bags for you. Such a fun idea, but I thought I should try some of their pre-made dashi options before creating mine own. They also sell miso, rice, noodles, rice seasoning, seaweed, tea, and other items. I picked up some Japanese mustard, seaweed, and rice seasoning to take home with my dashi. Beyond being a great shop, they also have a cafe area where they offer a teishoku set meal - you pick your fish, which comes with tea, rice, miso soup, pickles, and sides. They also offer an omakase popup. The shop is beautiful, and the service was very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly return for more shopping but next time I plan to make a meal of it and try their teishoku set.

My boyfriend was the one making the dashi, so I perused the fun goods while he built his base. The dashi does take some time to make, so you can select your blend, then leave for a while and come back later.
