Pleasantly surprised! A little hole in the wall in a strip of stores, i wasn't sure what to expect. We ordered Tom Yum, Red Curry, and Papaya salad. By far the best Papaya Salad I have had!!! Waitress was very sweet. I had asked for no bell peppers and they put them in the curry. Not seeing it as a big deal, I just picked them out and put them aside. When she noticed she was sooo apologetic. I thought that was very nice seeing how I wasn't going to say anything. She also asked if we wanted separate checks before processing the check. Best Thai food in Tucson. Thus far, I have only tried the chicken panang curry and the pineapple shrimp curry. Both were awesome. The panang curry had chopped peanuts in it, not just the indistinguishable nut paste that most places use. It also had plenty of fresh basil. The pineapple shrimp curry was made with real fresh pineapple, not canned. The Thai iced tea is not made with coconut milk though. They just use cream. Still good though. read more

I've picked up food from this place a couple of times now and I have to say it's really, really good! I've been looking for a good Thai restaurant here in Tucson for years and I finally found it! We ordered take out as we were staying on a local hotel and our kids love parang curry. They had our food ready in about 30 minutes. It was all very tasty and the spice was a good amount of heat. Our first meal at Bai Thong was Friday--it won't be our last! The food was outstanding. John had the drunken noodles, loaded with perfectly cooked-crisp vegetables, and lots of chicken. I had the red curry with chicken. The seasoning was just right and, again, the vegetables were tender crisp. The service was rather slow. We were seated immediately, but then waited 10 minutes for someone to offer us water. Overall, we were there about an hour. Both John and I grinned when we saw a newspaper review that stated how good Bai Thong's food was...and worth the wait. If the service were quicker, I'd definitely give this restaurant a five. This is the worst experience I ever had!!!!! We found a hair in the curry. We told the owner about the hair. He took away the curry immediately and then came back to us and asked us " where is the hair?" He even said " if you don't like you should never come again." We felt insulted. We are visiting Tucson. We came here the first night we arrived and it was delicious. We eat Thai food a lot and this restraint stands out for its wonderfully fresh vegetables. The coconut tom kha soup was exceptional! We asked for mild adjustments to the spice level and they did this without removing the essence of the dishes. Tried their pad thai and Tom kha soup and it was pretty good. However the Pad Thai could've used some more flavor and the portion of food (dinner size) was a little on the skimpy side. The tom kha was more on the watery side rather than milky consistency like I'm used to. Coming from Seattle I don't expect Tucson's Asian restaurants to meet or exceed my taste buds but so far this is the best pad thai I've tried since moving here. It was really wet and rainy out today and I think that's mostly why it was a quiet night but service was pretty slow. My first thoughts walking into the restaurant were that the decor was really funky. It in no way reflects on the food but I think it's worth noting that it was weird. I happened to go with a two other friends and our waitress was helpful in suggesting dishes we should try. I got their Panang Curry with beef. The curry was delicious. It was creamy and the coconut milk gave it this nutty flavor that I really liked. It also had a peanut sauce mixed in and that added a certain depth of flavor as well. While being sweet there was was this very subtle and insidious heat to the dish as well. Overall, I thought it was very tasteful and I would order it again. My sister, who was with me, ordered their Pad Thai with chicken. As someone who's never had the pleasure of having Pad Thai before, I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. If I'm being honest, I enjoyed her dish more than my own. It was just the right amount of sweet and savory. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the fresh vegetables added a nice crunch, and the peanuts kind of topped it off for me. I felt like I could eat that alone for weeks and never get tired of it. My sister's only complaint was that it wasn't spicy enough for her and while they offer chili paste there still wasn't enough heat to give her the type of burn she wanted. All that being said, there were some things I didn't like. While my curry was portioned in a decently sized bowl, it was lacking in beef. For a dish that's basically $10, I felt a little cheated. It was more like a Panang Curry soup. Also, they give this option of rice for two if you plan to share with others at your table. To me, the portion was more like rice for one. After I'd eaten the scarce pieces of beef out of my Curry, I was basically left with soup and there wasn't even enough rice to soak it up. It was disappointing, especially for the price you're paying. I really did enjoy the food which is why I gave it as many stars as I did, but it's not making my list of go-to Thai places. read more

Yup! It's my new go to Thai food place. The restaurant is quite spacious and decorated with typical Thai artwork and travel posters. They only have three beers and only Singha for Thai beer. I've been to Bangkok Cafe and had their Pad Thai.... but Bai Thong's is by far the better one! We also had their fried rice with sweet basil and that was just as amazing. In addition, we ordered the trout with basil, ginger, and Thai sauce which was super tasteful. As for dessert, I usually order the homemade Thai tea ice cream but they were out so I had to settle for the homemade coconut ice cream. I'm not in love with coconut, but I loved it! Can't say this place was ever particularly good, but now it's really lame. They don't have fresh limes anymore. I asked the male waiter and he said they use lime juice from concentrate. Really?
